If you want to be off the beaten path, yet enjoy luxury accomodations, this is the place. Finding the villa the first time may prove challenging as GPS, road signs, and directions are not reliable. But, once you are standing by the pool looking out at the ocean, you won't be disappointed. The owner Stu is on site during your stay. That may bother some people, but you have to understand you are renting the home he built for himself not originally designed as a rental. Stu was helpful and available which we appreciated. As previous reviewers mentioned, there is a bar/cafe around the corner which came in handy when we didn't feel like cooking. Also a nearby bakery sold delicious pastries. Groceries are close too (don't bother with Sam's, Costco, or Walmart unless you shop on your way in as they are too far once you are in Rincon). This villa is absolutely lovely and well kept. Two words of caution: mosquitos and fire ants are not your friends here, and plan to add 30-60 min time to any driving route from the house.

Edina, minnesotaWe had a great time.
Left on 04/23/2012 for a stay in April 2012
The setting of the house was perfect...the way the house faced the beach, the way the pool was off the house, the space in the yard for the kids to play. We swam first thing in the morning and could watch the kids from inside if we wanted...no putting towels down to save chairs by the pool at 5 in the morning like you have to do at a big resort. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset every night. Stu cleaned the pool every morning to ensure it was pristine. The kitchen and outdoor grill provided everything we needed to cook most of our evening meals plus breakfast. We loved having the swim up bar right in the pool...it worked out great to have the extra refrigeration for drinks. It was also nice to have the calypso cafe right down the street if we wanted to sneak off for a drink.
The house sleeps 14 but the space is not evenly divided...we had three families and one couple didn't have their own bath...it was the only bath on the main floor so it wasn't really private. Kids had to split up and not be with their parents as the bed layouts wouldn't allow. The air conditioning never really worked... So the bedrooms that didn't get the breeze off the ocean got quite warm at night.
This was my first time renting a private home...I am a big fan of this. It was great to have the private space.
Couple things to note...the beach is not really swimable in front of the house...it is too rocky. There are beaches within walking distance, though. There is also a great snorkel beach within walking distance. Once the big swell came, the beach was no longer good for snorkeling, but other nearby beaches were great for surfing.
We had a great time and think the house is great...would recommend!! -

Everything was great. We were met my Stu and showed the ropes. The accommodations are 5 stars all the way. The location is perfect, close enough to everything but still far enough away from the main city. There is a restaurant within walking distance. The house/guest house is so relaxing and beautiful you could stay here and never have to leave. Thanks for our first time in PR and making ti great! We will see you next spring break!! Surfing was great behind the house as well, there was also an area for kids to safely play. Rocky areas with a sand entrance to the ocean a little bit down the beach. Perfect for families!!

We were amazed at the beauty of the Villa, the beach, surf, the entire package.
The sounds and smells of the ocean are still a wonderful memory even as we returned to snow at home.
We hope to be back to see Stu and Tatiana again -

Me and my husband got married at Villa Playa Maria. The villa's are amazing and the master suite is fabulous! I didn't want to leave that place! Stuart was wonderful and takes pride in his place. He keeps the place in tip top shape at all times which is nice. Rincon is a small town but the people were friendly. The villa is a little ways from San Juan, 2 hours to be exact but it's worth the drive if you really want to get out of the touristy scene. Use caution when driving down the roads in Rincon or anywhere in PR, they can get pretty curvy, and not fun to drive on at night. Villa Playa Maria is a great get away location if you have the money and want privacy. I defintely plan on visiting again but this time with just a few friends. Thanks for everything Stu!

We stayed for a weekend at Villa Playa MarÃa and enjoyed the property very much. The property is very well located, in front of a secluded beach. It has a very nice pool with inside the water stools that head towards an amazing little bar. The property has several spacious rooms and living areas where one can enjoy company with friends and family. We hope to return soon!!

Our stay at Villa Playa Maria was excellent! The villa was exactly as described and exceeded our expectations. With our large family and two small children, the property allowed us all to enjoy ourselves either in the pool, at the BBQ, in the yard or at the beach. The villa was maintained very well and we had a great cook recommended by Stuart. Thank you for a great week! We look forward to coming back to Rincon.. Rick and antonija

Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Rincon was a wonderful place to get married. My wife and I stayed at Stu's Villa along with the wedding party and several of their children. The rest of the guests stayed up the hill at the Lazy Parrot. I cannot begin to tell you how much fun we had staying at the Villa. We had 45 people at the Villa at one time and didn't feel at all crowded; people were inside watching the giant t.v., people were in the pool, people were snorkling in the ocean, and people were laying in the grass.
There is a huge grill that we used several times. We had a bonfire on the beach in front of the Villa. Someone was in the pool nearly every waking minute. The focal point of the Villa was the swim-up bar!
Stu was very helpful. He gave good directions and suggestions for getting around town. Both he and his son cleaned the pool everyday. He organized maid service one day.
In general I don't have anything bad to say about my stay at the Villa. Everyone was so impressed by the location that they were talking about returning to celebrate our one year anniversary! -

A great time at a great location.
Pros: location, property, sunsets,
Cons: •Kitchen sinks,
•manager a little too present, although a very nice guy coming home to him cleaning the pool in the middle of the day while his daughter swam was weird. And him asking if we mind if he takes a dip another day, also a bit awkward. -

Left on 08/09/2011 for a stay in June 2011
The villas were as described- beautiful! We were a group of 13 people and there was plenty of room. The pool is big and the swim-up bar is amazing. We liked the location, right on the beach. the beach behind the villas was not great for "swimming"per-se, but fantastic for snorkeling. Bring snorkel, mask and fins(or water shoes), use one of Stu's boogie boards and explore the waters! Simply amazing! there is a sandy beach nearby to drive or walk to for just swimming. There is a bar/restaurant up the driveway and a few little shops right there. There is a bakery (with food) up the hill. the town is not too far (drive) but there are only a few shops there. Supermarkets and liquor store are not too far of a drive. Stu was around most of the time to assist with whatever we needed. There are not a ton of restaurants around, but certainly enough. And the guy in the stand at the side of the road had awesome tacos and burritos!!!We cooked one night, we had a personal chef come another night (who also gave a cooking class to 5 of us) There are lots of excursions that can be done from this location. A few were a 2-hour drive, but well-worth it. We booked 4 things through Rincon Vacations and were happy with every one. Do not miss the bioluminescent bay. It is a must. You will be in awe !!! We definitely would stay there again and would highly recommend this property!!

We have stayed here a few times and plan to go back many times! The entire property is amazing with immediate beach access to one of the best surf breaks in Rincon. The house has everything you could ask for and is clean and well manicured. If there is something you need to make your stay more comfortable or need any information about the area, the property manager is always attentive and very knowledgeable. We love the pool with the swim up tiki bar and the property is so close to many area restaurants, night spots and many other beautiful beaches if you choose to venture. Once you get there there is really no reason to leave, but you can easily walk to the Rum Shack to view the best sunsets. You can't go wrong with Villa Playa Maria.

Villa Playa Maria and Rincon made for a beautiful wedding for my wife and I and a vacation we will never forget. We couldn't have asked for a better location. The house is immaculate and the grounds are gorgeous. The heated saltwater pool was so refreshing and the swim up bar was a great hang out. The master bedroom is amazing. We never closed the huge doors opening to the balcony and loved hearing the ocean every night as we went to bed. I have never been so relaxed in my life. We had such a great time and had a beautiful wedding. Stu was a great host and was always very helpful. I would recommend Villa Playa Maria to everyone.

Left on 06/03/2011 for a stay in May 2011
This was our first trip to Puerto Rico and we had an absolutely fabulous time at the Villa. Our son married his best friend on the beach at the Villa at sunset in May with family and close friends looking on. What an incredible location for a Wedding. The Villa is everything the pictures depict and more - Stu is a wonderful host and we definitely appreciated his help in finding our way around Rincon. It was a wonderful stay and my husband and I were lucky enough to be able to extend our time at the Villa after the newlyweds, family and friends headed home.
The Villa itself is unbelievable! What a beautiful home - everything was orderly, neat and clean. The gourmet kitchens are a huge plus. The grounds are beautiful. The beach just outside the Villa gate is a wonderful place to relax and take dip in the ocean. And that warm saltwater pool - Wow! Everyone in our party had an exceptional time and we will definitely go back for another visit. It is well worth the money spent - we definitely recommend the Villa as a relaxing, sun filled vacation spot.

Brooklyn NYThe Best Birthday Celebration ever thanks to Villa Playa Maria
Left on 03/31/2011 for a stay in January 2011
From our first email to our goodbye, Stu made our special day such a memorable experience!
My husband and I had been planning a 40th birthday celebration, that would be meaningful to both of us and involve some of our closest family and friends. After months of searching for the right place here in new York and our first home Puerto Rico, finding Villa Playa Maria seemed too good to be true. The photos don't even begin to show how truly amazing this home is. We stayed at both the main and guest villas with 8 friends and family and couldn't be more comfortable. The main suite made me feel like a princess!
Stu and his beautiful family were so warm and friendly. He was always available for any questions we had, but somehow managed to disappear and allowed us our space to party. He recommend a great caterer and helped to navigate through most of the set up, something that I was clueless to.
The home is so well equip that we never had to leave other than going to the supermarket that is about 10 mins up the road to town. The beautiful kitchen made it a pleasure to cook and host for guest. The sound system and TV equipment allowed us the freedom to enjoy music in and out of the house, which got our party going! And if it weren't for the amazing Jacuzzi soak I was enjoying in the main suite, I would've seen the whales that were swimming right outside our balcony!
Thanks to Stu and his amazing house we were able to have the most memorablee birthday! And look forward to returning soon with our children.

Left on 06/13/2009 for a stay in June 2008
In 2007 my daughter and I attended a beautiful beachside wedding held on the private beach at the Villa Playa Maria. With a graduation from college in a year it was the perfect place to celebrate. Once we got a plan together 13 friends and family arrived at the Villa with only 2 of us knowing first hand what waited on the other side of the gate. All our guest mouths dropped because as they said ?I can?t believe we get to live her for a.?
Pictures are not enough. You immediately know from the Big Spanish style door on the main house to the kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms in both the Main house and the Guest House that Stuart knows comfort, style and luxury. You have to be there to appreciate the getting up in the morning throwing on a sundress or shorts, taking a walk on the private beach or stretch out on a lawn chair by the pool. It doesn?t get better than seeing, feeling and smelling the ocean breeze coming through the sliding glass walls while watching TV or listening to the music from the sound system inside and outside upstairs or downstairs or the relaxation of walking out the kitchen sliding doors into the swimming pool and wet bar for a drink. Everyone took turns being bartender.
We still talk about Villa Playa Maria when we talk about luxury and relaxation and we get stressed we look at pictures we took at the house and the Rincon Light house a short walk from the villa.
Keep in mind that this privately owned piece of heaven is on an island and creature comforts aren?t always what we are used to. Running tap water was not available a couple times and tiny ants made themselves at home in some sweet rolls because we did not keep them sealed tightly or in the refrigerator - lesson learned. But who really cares we had a wonderful stay and plan to return because we can?t imagine staying in any where else when in Puerto Rico.
Stuart is absolutely awesome assisting with all arrangements. Thanks again Stuart you created great memories for me, my family and friends.

Growing up in Hermosa Beach, CA I was looking for a relaxed surf town in PR to tie the knot. Maria's Villa was the perfect choice and - although our guest list of 30 was well traveled - we all had THE time of our life! Stuart felt like a family member to us and his brokerage of local vendors made our life so easy that we had a zero-stress wedding. Whether you envision a bikini wedding or an upscale occasion, the Villa is by far the best property I can recommend.
We WILL be back again and again, that's for sure. We love Rincon, we love Stuart and we are madly in love with the Villa!!!!!
