Just spent time in Rio for Carnaval and my birthday - this apartment was absolutely perfect. Staying here you will actually forget that you are not Brazilian and this is not your apartment!
Walking distance to Copacabana & Ipanema let me go to the beaches, restaurants, and shops without stress - I could always go back to change, drop off things, etc. There are small stores all around which was very convenient for water, snacks, coffee, etc.
There is a metro station a block away and cabs are easily accessible from the front door for other excursions (although I spent most of my time in this area).
Michael is very professional and reliable with excellent planning and confirmation skills. Gabriel met at the apartment within 5 minutes of my arrival to deliver keys and show the apartment - check in and check out; he was also available via email or cell the entire time.

If you're single or a couple, this 1-bedroom suite has everything you need for a great stay in Ipanema. It's perfectly situated a 10-minute walk to the beach, supermarket, cafes, bars, retail, subway and taxis in one of the safest areas of Rio. The building has a doorman all day long. The suite is bright, clean and well furnished, with a queen size bed and comfortable pullout sofa bed. There's a TV in both the bedroom and living room. The kitchen has everything you need, including a microwave, coffee maker and toaster. There's a washer/dryer, which comes in very handy. There's free and fast wifi. The only minor inconvenience is figuring out the perfect setting for hot and cold in the shower, but really that's it. The price was definitely right -- certainly inexpensive if you're sharing the suite with another person -- and I would stay there again, without hesitation.

I visited Rio for the Rio+20 Conference. Needless to say, all the hotels were extremely pricey, and I really appreciated that the owner, Michael, didn't raise the price that he had listed (as many other had done).
This apartment was perfect, clean and tastefully decorated.
The location is ideal, 5 minute walk to restaurants, shops, buses, metro stop, and it's next to a hospital (but the road is overall quiet). Take a 10-minute walk and you are on the beach!
Gabriel, the manager, was super kind, and replied to all my questions in a timely and professional manner. The guard at the door is also super sweet and helpful.

We stayed in this apartment for 5 days. It is perfectly set up for a couple - well furnished and appointed with just about everything you need if you want to self-cater - not that we did too much of that. The bed is very comfortable (often a problematic matter) and it is quiet. Handy to many good restaurants, shops, transport and the beach. Gabriel gave an excellent introduction to the apartment and promptly responded to any questions or requests for assistance. Exceptional value for money.

Our trip was great, as was the apartment. The place was wonderful - clean, quiet and easy to access. Great neighborhood and both Gabriel and the doormen were super. Our daughter arranged a "Meet the Parents" for her friends from the consulate one evening and everyone commented on how nice the apartment was and asked how we found it. She stayed over one night and found the sofa bed just fine. I'd definitely return.

Loved, loved, loved this great little apartment! Booking was easy. The location was awesome. It only took 5 minutes to walk to the beach. We were also within walking distance to Copacabana and Leblon and some wonderful restaurants. We especially enjoyed the Terzotto (sp??) Coffee Bar when we didn’t feel like making our own breakfast.
The apartment itself was very clean, modern, and well-equipped. There were a couple of TVs so we didn’t have to fight over what to watch – which came in handy when it rained. We also made use of the two ipod docs.
Michael, the owner, and Gabriel, the local manager were very courteous and helpful. It was our first trip to Rio and it was reassuring having them available to answer our many, many questions.
We would love to return with our teenagers but the size of the apartment is not appropriate for a family of four. However it is absolutely perfect for a couple or single travelers.Response from Michael - 04/27/2012

location of the apartment is good

Negative:
towels and sheets weren’t clean on arrival
apartment wasn’t spotless (refrigerator, a lot of dust under the bed, closets,…)
a lot of human hair that wasn't ours
We were disappointed in the fact that Michael (the owner) wouldn't let us write a review. When he asked us how our stay was, we gave honest and constructive feedback. Afterwards we asked for a link so we could put our feedback on the Tripadvisor website but he replied that he didn't want to impose upon us to write a review because we were not completely satisfied with our visit. So although we explicitly asked for a link to be able to write a review, we got nothing. I gave this apartment an average rating but this some very poor behaviour. Michael, if you don't want to get negative feedback make sure that your apartment meets certain standards instead of censoring feedback that is not 100% how you like it to be.Response from Michael - 04/10/2012

We stayed at this apartment during carnival ( Feb 10-25,2012) and had a wonderful time.The place was dern, clean and very well kept. I would say best part was that it was just steps to all the action on Barrao del Torres and Visconde de Piraja.I'm talking about restaurants, night clubs and of course the beach! We were a 5 minute walk from Copacabana and 5 minutes from Ipanema.i would most definitely recommend this place to anyone going to Brazil

The apartment is modern, nicely decorated and really comfortable. The location is very convenient: a short walk away from General Osorio metro station, close to 2 good supermarkets, several shops and restaurants. The street and the building are safe and quiet ( and the air conditioning is also quiet - very important). I recommend highly the apartment, the location, and the host.

I had a nightmare looking for a hotel for myself and fiance to stay in for 5 nights in rio. We wanted to stay in Ipanema or Leblon as they are the nice, safe areas with best beaches but all the hotels cost a fortune! Thankfully I came across this little place owned by a friendly gentleman in Canada and managed by Gabriel a young friendly local.
The apartment is small but a perfect size for a couple with everything you would expect from a top rate hotel room and more. There were some technical issues with the washing machine however I believe that has now been looked into.
The place was very clean and tastefully decorated. It is a very short walk to one of the main squares in Ipanema (great market on a saturday)and only a further 5 minutes to the beach. You can even venture down to Leblon in about 20 minutes by foot or a 5 minute cab ride.
The security guys at the front desk of the building are also brilliant - they make you feel safe, are always friendly and one even lent me his phone to make a call one day!
All in all I would thoroughly recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Rio - people like Michael should be commended for giving travellers a top class, value for money alternative to the overpriced (and often shabby) hotels in Rio!

My girlfriend and I stayed in this apartment over an 8 day period in October and really enjoyed our stay. We were in Rio for a wedding and knew a number of guests staying in holiday let apartments nearby.
On arrival (very early in the morning) we were met at the property by the manager who checked us in with very little fuss (I understand this is not always the case from other guests!) and who explained the locations of local shops, beaches and restaurants to help us get our bearings.
The apartment itself provided all we needed, was in a safe, quiet, convenient location with a local subway station in close proximity and most importantly was comfortable (ideal for two people).
It was, in my view, by far the best apartment when compared to those that other members of the wedding party stayed in both in terms of location, fixtures and fittings and professional approach of the landlord and property manager.
I have no hesitation in recommending the property. -

Visited Rio mid November, and stayed at this gem of an apartment.
For a traveler the location is ideal - I walked to most destinations in the Copacabana, Ipenema and Leblon areas.
The apartment is very comfortable (a second home while you're exploring), secure, and even has hotel comforts such as towels, and water in the fridge :)
The booking, and check in process is professional and friendly.

We just came back from our Rio vacation and we would like to recommend this apartment, which is a nice place to stay, with good value for the price paid. The residential building is close to all you may need in the Ipanema / Copacabana / Leblon area and it feels like a home. This apartment is perfect for one person or a couple. Newly renovated and comfortable it has everything you need to make for a pleasant stay. The location is great, full of local flavor and nice neighborhood people. Gabriel, the manager, and the two men who work the entrance are a plus and make you feel safe.

My new husband and I stayed in the apartment for 6 nights at the start of our honeymoon to South america. It is a great option for anyone visiting Rio as even when you factor in bank charges for transferring money it works out cheaper than any of the local hotels, plus you get more space and have additional home comforts such as kitchen appliances, fridge and washing machine.
The flat is well located in the centre of Ipanema - around 2 minutes from the nearest supermarket and metro station and 5 minutes from Ipanema beach. It is compact but has everything you need, including a particularly comfortable double bed, and it was very clean and tidy when we stayed.
The property manager Gabriel was great - he was there waiting when we arrived even though our flight was delayed and we didn't arrive until nearly midnight and he was happy to meet us early in the morning (before 7am) on the day we left. He also called us a cab to get to the airport when we left and gave us his email address in case we had any queries or wanted to ask any advice during our stay.Response from Michael - 05/23/2011

The flat is very close to the Metro General Osorio, and only a 5-10 minute walk to Ipanema Beach. There is a very nice cafe near to the Metro station that provided a wonderful start to the day.
The flat itself is as pictured, clean and modern. Although small, if you are going alone or as a couple then it is more than adequate. The internet worked perfectly, and the flat itself is well equipped with iPod dock, stereo, flatscreen Tv's, etc. It is a good value for the money and much better than a hotel in terms of comfort and amenities.
Gabriel was great on both check-in and check-out. The only complication for me was that the check-in deposit (which was fully refunded) was in dollars, and coming from the UK it required a bit of work in advance, and the us Dollar is not a currency I use that often living in London. :) I'm not sure if there is flexibility here, though, as I didn't ask.Response from Michael - 05/23/2011
