Nestled in the lush foothills of the El Yunque National Forest in Rio Grande Puerto Rico, Coqui's Hideaway vacation rental offers adults and families a tranquil rain forest retreat, away from the crowds of the resorts and big city hotels. Our location, in the mountains adjacent to the rain forest in the north-east of Puerto Rico, off...ers the perfect combination of beach and rainforest vacations. We're minutes from world-class beaches and the El Portal Visitor Center in the national forest. And San Juan is just a short 35-minute drive using Route 66.
We're conveniently located midway between the San Juan and Fajardo areas. So close ... but it feels like a world away.
At Coqui's Hideaway, you can enjoy your vacation holiday in your own completely furnished 2 or 3 bedroom guest house with panoramic ocean views right from your private veranda. We offer many amenities, including a beautiful in-ground swimming pool, fully equipped kitchen (with dishwasher), air conditioning throughout the house, washer/dryer, satellite TV, and complementary WIFI internet, all in an eco-oriented setting, with El Yunque as a backdrop.
Additionally, all guests at Coqui's Hideaway are eligible for exclusive discounts on some of the most popular tours and excursions - the bio bay, rain forest, snorkel trips and Segway tours in Old San Juan, to name a few.
Compare the value of Coqui's Hideaway to what you would get for the same price at a hotel. We think you'll agree that you get more for your money by staying with us. And that's important in today's economy.
When you stay with us at Coqui's Hideaway, you will be the only guests on our property and you'll have the privacy you want during your vacation. You'll have the freedom to enjoy our 9-acre estate, which is at the end of a cul-de-sac, in a residential area, neighbored by other private "local" residences. You won't see other tourists. You won't see crowds. You won't see high-rise condos. You won't hear traffic. You will enjoy the Puerto Rican countryside the way it was meant to be - falling asleep to the sounds of the Coqui, waking up to the sounds of roosters, and breathing in the crisp mountain air.Read more

Best family with Teens stay ever!
Our kids; 14, 16 18, need some space of their own. As their parents, we need some too! 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, open floor plan for the rest. Perfect! A wonderful back deck off the master; listening to the tree frogs & other rainforest creatures at night was wonderful! The private pool, with grill & bathroom was an excellent addition. Gwenn & Ray were wonderful hosts; there when needed; but never a bother. Wasan't a huge" house, but so comfortable for a family, even ones younger than ours. We loved the short drive to the rainforest: spent 3 days hiking & getting in waterfalls. The house was equipped with everything needed, including ice chests.

Coqui's Hideaway is a slice of paradise!
Trip Advisor reviewers are spot on in their reviews of Coqui's! This place is such a beautiful respite, in between our high adventure trips (Kalichi Adventures & Kayaking/Snorkeling Culebra), we loved just hanging out at Coqu's! Each morning, I especially enjoyed reading poolside in between pool exercises waiting for the men to wake up. The guys equally enjoyed the pool most nights watching the sun set and afterwards would pop in one of the many movies from the Hideaways collection. Ray has mastered the art of being a hostess - always available for questions but mostly out of sight allowing guests to feel as if they own Coqu's while there.

Great place to stay in the tropical rain forest. Very comfortable and clean accommodation with all amenities and a warm welcome from the hosts, which even includes a goodie basket with fruit from the garden and treats to be getting on with. Near to the sea, San Juan and the National Park if you want to move around, but just relax in the garden, by the pool or on local walks, and enjoy the variety of flora and fauna all around you. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Ray and Gwenn do a fabulous job making you feel welcome but they are never intrusive on your privacy. The house was immaculately clean and so comfortable. The arrangement of fresh flowers from the property as well as the fresh fruits and gift basket were icing on the cake and this is probably our favorite place that we have ever stayed. We rented this house to get a feel for actually living in a tropical location as opposed to just staying at a hotel and it was perfect for that. The attention to detail was phenomenal and the recommendations that they made for restaurants and things to do on their website were spot on.
This rental was clean, comfortable, fun, convenient and even priced well. We would not change a thing!

This is a great place to stay to enjoy Puerto Rico. Ray and Gwenn provide everything you need in the house and all the advice you want about places to go and things to do. The privacy and beautiful location of the house are hard to match. Old San Juan is a half hour or so away, and one of the nicest beaches you will ever enjoy is not much more than 15 minutes away in Luquillo. The rainforest, of course, is a highlight.
Family Hanging with Coqui
Our family had a wonderful 2 night stay at Coquis Hideaway in april. We wanted a quite place to relax while we were exploring El Yunque and Luquillo Beach. This place really is a hidden gem! The process of renting and setting up our reservation was a breeze. Ray and Gwen are the perfect mix of organization and fun. I felt very comfortable sending in my deposits.
Don't be alarmed as you come to the house its in the rain forest but once you are behind the gate you feel very safe and sound.
The grounds and house are perfectly maintained. The home is cozy, comfortable and clean. They have really thought of every detail as the home is perfectly appointed. You feel right at home with the welcome basket they provide.
Even better are the amazing views from the home's back porch and pool. The pool is a little small but extremely well kept and clean!! The set up by the pool with the fridge, bar, bathroom, table and chairs is amazing. Once you are in the pool and looking out to the forest and city you feel like your in a dream.
We traveled with two kids age 3 and 7 and a senior age 72 and the house worked out perfectly. We hope to return to Coquis one day soon. It really was the perfect hideaway.

Very helpful owners (pre visit and during visit) with clear and useful instructions and guidance; apartment was clean, very well appointed, and perfectly located for our day trips to the rain forrest; pool area and back porch (for evening cocktails) were unexpected delights. We were only 2 people, but apartment was plenty big for another couple or a family. Nearby dog was a barker during one night.

Amazing Vacation Home
Coquis Hideway is an ideal rental to stay in while visiting Puerto Rico. The house is super clean and has all the comforts of home. The views from the pool and veranda are amazing! The home is so comfortable - with the windows open and the ceiling fans on it was just perfect (but the air conditioning is always there if you need it). The proximity to the rain forest, old San Juan and Luquillo is very convenient. It was so nice to come home after our adventures and be able to spread out as a family and relax. Our family loved hiking up to Mt. Britton Tower and looking over the amazing views and seeing and swimming in the Juan Diego falls. We were adventerous and tried the natural rock waterslides near Luquillo and then visited the Monserrate Balneario - such a beautiful beach. We hope to return!!
This place was perfect. Clean, fresh, and relaxing accommodations. The owners were extremely hospitable and helpful if we needed anything. We really felt like we were on vacation, surrounded by beautiful scenery and amazing views. The pool area was our favorite place to hang out during the day and have dinner in the evenings. The kids loved swimming and exploring the gardens. The location is very close to many restaurants, and it's only a short drive to the rainforest and beaches. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. Can't wait to return.
Coqui's Hideaway is a wonderful retreat nestled in the foothills of the rain forest. The villa was very clean and well-organized. There is a large veranda that is perfect for enjoying your meal and the view. We had breakfast every morning with a nearby iguana. There is a large, private pool area. The villa is turn-key and equipped with everything from beach chairs to a blender.

Absolutely wonderful- we miss it already.
We have just returned home from our trip to Puerto Rico, and we are missing Coqui's Hideaway already. The place is beautiful- We miss the view from the veranda and swimming area, we spent a lot of time in these places, even when it rained. It was nice to end the day spent on the beach, or traveling around the island with a going home feeling, rather than heading back to a busy hotel. We were a group of four adults and two young boys, and there was more than enough space for all of us at Coqui's. It was so pleasant and peaceful, and clean. Ray and Gwenn are extremely nice people who were also very helpful in answering any questions we had, and even giving us ideas of what and where to go on the island. We had an absolutely fabulous time in Puerto Rico and are planning a return visit to both the island and Coqui's Hideaway within the next two years.
Vacationing in a private botantical paradise
Everything has been thought of and taken care of at Coquis Hideaway. Couldn't recommend more highly. We so appreciated the availability of beach chairs, beach blankets, umbrellas, sand toys, and the fully-stocked kitchen, which made it easy to cook all the food we bought at WalMart, Ralph's, and amigo. Ray and Gwen made our Christmas special with Puerto Rican culinary treats. The house itself is very comfortable - TV with great movie collection, availability of wireless and a laptop for our use, air conditioning units and ceiling fans, excellent hot water. We looked forward every day to having our dinner on the porch overlooking the valley and the lights below - some nights we saw fireworks, and on others we saw cruise ships out at sea. The property is gorgeous - it must be a full time job to maintain all of the flowers and trees so beautifully. It was like living in a botanical garden. Our kids loved the pool, and we all enjoyed bird wathcing and flower-spotting from the shaded patio. We did day trips every morning, and sat poolside every afternoon. The Prdaytrips web site has so much fabulous information, and the discounts are great. The location is up a curvy hillside road that is not for the faint of heart, but the view from the porch and the poolside is simply spectacular as a result. Easy access nearby to the beaches, the rainforest, and horseback riding. Wonderful place.
Staying in Ray's and Gwen's house means you are in good hands -
Our family of four (including two kids 3 and 7 years old) stayed in Ray's and Gwen's house on Thanksgiving week in November 2013. Since we arrived later in the evening, Ray met us at the intersection of a highway with their local road and escorted us to their house to make sure that we won't get lost in the dark. His and Gwen's genuine care and attention made our trip go very smoothly. They were full of valuable information about everything local and were always eager to share it with us. We had plenty of questions, such as what is the best snorkeling nearby, where to hike in El Yunque with little kids, where to go for the best ice-cream, etc. and we got a lot of good suggestions from Ray and Gwen.
The house was clean, warm and comfortable; the first thing we noticed upon the arrival was a beautiful flower arrangement in the living room. We also were greeted with a big basket of the fruits from Ray's and Gwen's garden. The house was equipped with all the things I could think we might need and even some things which I'd never have thought about (for example, ear plugs for those who prefer to sleep with the open windows but to block all the tropical forest sounds at night). The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. We all really enjoyed the garden around the house where we picked fresh fruits every day (some of them were new to us, like peanut butter fruits and icacos).
We participated in the number of activities: hiking in the rain forest (make sure to bring a rain cover, an umbrella, something to cover up, because it is a good chance that it is going to rain there at some point), snorkeling off catamaran boat (not a booze cruise, very family friendly, at least at this time of the year), and horseback riding (I was surprised that they allowed to ride the kids as little as 3 years old, however it looked pretty safe with the extra straps for the little ones). We also went for a day trip to the Old Sun Juan, and liked it a lot!
Good time had by all.
Received a warm welcome after our long flight. Lovely location and everything was spotlessly clean and just what we were looking for.
We enjoyed our stay at Coqui's Hideaway. It was just as described but you have to experience it to completely understand how special it is. Ray and Gwenn have created a paradise right in their backyard. The grounds are gorgeous - full of fruit trees and flowers. The sounds at night were spectacular - you can't miss the signature "coqui coqui!" When we weren't exploring El Yunque and Balneario Monserrate, we enjoyed the property - having fun and relaxing in the swimming pool, chilling inside watching TV and cooking our own meals. We wished we would have reserved an entire day just to relax there! We appreciate all of the little details - from the well-appointed kitchen to the welcoming flower arrangement, bountiful bowl of fruit and Puerto Rican goodies including homemade banana bread to the beach supplies like coolers, boogie boards and beach umbrellas - they just thought of everything. We aren't sure when we'll return but we keep talking about "next time" so that's a good sign!

Wonderful House in Quiet Setting
We only stayed two nights at Coqui Hideaway but we really enjoyed our stay. The house was beautifully decorated with island theme. It was eauipped with everything anyone could possibly need! We loved walking around the property. The views were awesome and the flowers were so gorgeous!
We really appreciate the tour discounts! We went on the Kayak Bio Bay tour and East Island Culebra Excursion.
Your Puerto Rica Day Trip web site is Fabulous!!
Ray and Gwenn were so nice and we enjoyed meeting them.
Welcoming and relaxing home away from home
This relaxing hideaway is exactly as described. Ray and Gwen have given detailed attention to the comfort of their guests. My husband and I wanted to visit Puerto Rico along with our 3 children (19, 17 & 15). The reviews for Coqui's Hideaway seemed to good to be true but we soon found out that they are were completely true. After booking our stay, we decided on activities for the entire family and the discounts offered by Ray and Gwen were very much appreciated! We did the Bio Bay on our first evening, the Sun and Sand snorkeling excursion, ATV riding and horseback riding as well as visits to El Yunque and Old San Juan. There are binders in the home that provide up to date details for all these activities and more. Coolers, umbrellas, beach chairs, beach towels are all conveniently provided for the short trip to the beautiful beaches nearby. Our kids enjoyed choosing from the hundreds of dvds provided while my husband and I enjoyed the gorgeous grounds and especially the pool. Ray and Gwen treat you like an honored guest with baskets of goodies to welcome you as well as an incredibly beautiful floral arrangement filled with flowers from their own property. They let you know how to contact them and then they leave you to enjoy your stay. Whenever we needed anything at all, they were immediately available to answer questions. This is the type of home where you can either cook in a fully stocked kitchen or barbecue out by the pool or enjoy take out. I honestly have never had such a relaxing vacation where all three kids were as happy with either staying in or going out for an activity. We will definitely return to Coqui's again and highly recommend them to anyone staying in Puerto Rico. Ray and Gwen, thank you for such a memorable vacation.
A week in tropical paradise
We had one of the best vacations in Coqui's Hideaway. The house was so clean and comfortable, and the property was absolutely beautiful. We were impressed by the high quality service provided by Ray. Any question we had was answered immediately. He also gave us valuable information about the island sightseeing and local culture. Thank you, Gwen and Ray! We want to come back and stay with you guys again.
Paradise! The ultimate in convenience & comfort.
Staying here for our honeymoon was amazing. The place was so beautiful and the accommodations so private and convenient that we had a hard time pulling ourselves out of there to do things. One afternoon while checking out our private mountainside pool chatting with the owner who asked what we were planning on checking out around the island--- we mentioned wanting to do several things-- moments later we have an email with links to directions, tips and even discounts to the places we mentioned!!!
The service starts the minute you book your stay with Detailed directions to the place and even instructions an tips of where to shop and how to prepare ( Or rather not prepare since most of operations are done for you)
Just amazing! We can't wait to return.
Fantastic week at Coqui's Hideaway!
Coqui's Hideaway was the perfect rental place for our family vacation to Puerto Rico! Ray and Gwen have thought of everything that you might need in a rental house, and they were so nice. The pool was just perfect, we would sit out at the table to have breakfast and plan out our days. We took advantage of their massive movie collection and super comfy couches, too! Everything about this house was just right, the gardens were gorgeous, owners are so nice and helpful with hints about where to go and best places to eat, there really was nothing missing!
Best Family Vacation we've had...
Staying in Coqui's Hideaway was absolutely wonderful... Ray and Gwen were wonderful hosts. The House is spacious, supremely comfortable, and the best thing was, unlike a hotel, you could say goodnight to your kids and then close your own door. The rooms were very comfortable, the amenities were outstanding. I cannot tell you how much time we spent on the veranda off the large bedroom in back. Located in the rainforest, the grounds were spectacular. The weather during our stay was gorgeous, coming from arizona, rain on a daily basis was, a novelty and an absolute blessing.
The view off the veranda was stunning. I do think i could actually enjoy my whole vacation from that spot. On our first night and many after, we had dinner on the veranda to the sounds of the rain forest settling in for the night. My husband still misses the coqui's singing us to sleep at night.
I think the most fun i had was traversing the road to get from highway 3 to the Hideaway. the scenery was amazing and the view of the waterfalls in the distance was gorgeous.
Don't forge to take advantage of the wonderful discounts Ray and Gwen offer to guests of Coqui's Hideaway. We did the Yunke Zipline and the Bio Bay Tour ... wonderful memories were made those days...
I would agree with the Rating that has been given Coqui's Hideaway. Ray and Gwen deserve it. From the clean and beautiful house to the fresh fruit that appeared on the porch, those two were wonderful... Thanks Ray and Gwen, We will definately be back to see you in the not too distant future!!!
Not just a place to spend the night, a place to blend in with th
Coquis hideaway was the highlight of our PR vacation. Complete solitude; no traffic stress or noise, no bumping into other tourists and no souvenir shops. Instead, the sounds of nature- the rainforest. We enjoyed the beauty and fragrance of the many tropical plants found on the property and appreciated the bananas, grapefruit, pineapple and berries that Ray gathered for our "Welcome to Puerto Rico" basket. He made us feel like invited guests, taking the time to answer questions, give advice or just talk.
Each evening as we would sit by, or soak in the private pool overlooking the lush countryside, the symphony would begin. The tiny, mostly invisible musicians surrounded us while fireflies twinkled in the distance.
This is our souvenir of Puerto Rico.

A Private, Scenic Get-Away in the Real Puerto Rico
If you want a private pool overlooking paradise, fresh-picked/ exotic fruit, listening to the coqui's at night, coffee on a private veranda in the morning, and all the modern amenities that you could want...this is the place! And, it's not too far from the beach, the rain forest, and the bio bay!
Welcoming and helpful hosts with accommodations that exceeded ex
We began each morning with coffee on our private porch, overlooking Gwenn and Ray's beautiful grounds, the rainforest, and the city and ocean in the distance. We saw so many birds! And when we wanted to know which ones we were looking at, we found a field guide on the bookshelf.
The bird book is just one example of how Ray and Gwenn have thought of everything their guests need. They were always around to answer questions and make recommendations, and also have provided a ton of information about things to do - just check that bookshelf.
We were welcomed with a basket of treats, including homemade banana bread, and enjoyed fresh fruit grown on the property all week.
The apartment is nicely decorated and conveniently situated at the edge of El Yunque. It is an easy drive to San Juan, Laguna Grande in Fajardo and Loquillo Beach. It is very clean, spacious and comfortable. The area is safe and the neighbors friendly, and water was never a problem, as it can be in some places.
Speaking of water, the pool is wonderful, and there are more views from it. There is a grill, and even a fridge right at the pool that guests can use.
We really can't say enough positive things about Coqui's Hideaway and Ray and Gwenn. If you're going to Puerto Rico, this is where you should stay.
Be sure to ask Ray, Gwenn or Pikachu about supporting Island Dog.
Ditto the Previous accolades!
Hubby and I stayed two nights at Coqui's Hideaway earlier this month, specifically to be close to El Yunque. We really only had one full day to enjoy the area because we flew into Ceiba in the afternoon and stopped in Fajardo on the way to Rio Grande. The home is beautiful and so is the property. As mentioned before, for some reason the pictures on the website don't fully depict what you actually find when you arrive.
Ray and Gwen have thought of everything from kitchen items (storage containers, foil, etc) to things needed for adventure (coolers, boogie boards, rain ponchos) to general items to make your stay more comfortable (ear plugs - for those bothered by the coquis, plenty of towels, bandaids). In addition, there are plenty of books and binders with information to help you plan all your activities. A special touch is the complimentary basket which includes fruit from the property, homemade banana bread, snacks and all the ingredients needed for pina coladas!
Unfortunately, Ray was called away unexpectedly and we weren't able to meet him. Gwen, however, was able to hold down the fort perfectly fine in Ray's absence. She was always available (mainly for our travel advice) and we got to meet some of their dogs - we were missing our four legged friends at home. The pool and its setting are lovely, but we were not able to enjoy it or tour the property to check out the various fruit trees and flowers. We also were not able to make it to the beaches in Luquillo or the kiosks, but that leaves something for next time.
Pros: Beautiful setting, cleanliness, helpful owners
Cons: Reason for 4 stars on value: There were only two of us, so the 2nd bedroom was not needed & there is a slightly higher rate for stays less than 3 nights. This was not a big deal, but we did pay a little more than originally planned. The 2 bedroom option would be perfect for two couple or a small family & the 3 bed/2 bath option would be great for 3 couples or a larger family.
Paradise away from home, true Puerto Rico!!!
The property is fa nominal, the house cozy, the people friendly, the owner hospitable!!!
Just see the pics!!! Truly lives up to them. Won't be disappointed!

Pina coladas at the pool.
We loved our stay. Ray and Gwenn were wonderful, information-filled hosts with a beautiful property. They are diligent about providing everything you could need (e.g., beach towels, toys, chairs, umbrella and coolers for a trip to the lovely white-sand beach a 20 minute drive away). The house has everything you'd need, including internet and satellite television. They greeted us with a bowl of fruit from their trees and all the fixings for pina coladas, which we drank every night by the pool. The pool has a great view, a shaded veranda and you can see to the ocean -- but the pool itself is miniscule, more like an out-sized jacuzzi for cooling off, so don't plan to swim on the property. We made easy day trips to the rain-forest and the beach, and grocery and restaurants were a short drive. You will need a car, and not be fearful of a driving narrow winding roads.
The LAndry Family
Hidden gem in the El Yunque Rainforest
A wonderful place to stay while visiting Puerto Rico. Ray and Gwen are wonderful hosts who are very willing to share their knowledge of places to visit and eat at while here. We took a sailing day trip on the Erin Go Braugh and Captain Keith and Ingrid took wonderful care of us. We went snorkeling near some coral reefs filled with beautiful fish, took turns sailing the boat, and tried some of Captain Keith's homemade salsa.
We also went ziplining with The Rainforest Zipline company (which is a great course to intoduce your children too), went hiking in the El Yunque Rainforest (the Juan Diego trail is worth checking out).
Our girls loved walking through the lush grounds at Coqui's Hideaway (just watch out for fire ants) and were always on the look out for the Coqui frogs. They also enjoyed running into Ray and Gwen's dogs who were wicked cute.
The road leading up to Coqui's Hideawy is not for the faint hearted, but if you can get past the cars driving down the middle of the street at fast speeds, dogs in the road, some large pot holes, and even a pole in the middle of the road(don't hit the pole was our daughters favorite thing to say each time we were on the road) you will be rewarded with a great little hidden gem.

Beautiful property, thoughtful hosts
Hosts Ray and Gwenn Bentz seem to have anticipated their guests' every need or desire at this comfortable lodging near El Yunque rainforest in Puerto Rico. The accommodations are clean and modern and the grounds lush. On top of that, Ray and Gwenn have filled a fat binder with detailed reports on places to go and things to do in the area. The reservation process is not the most laid-back -- you'll sign a contract and pay a security deposit and receive a long list of directions/instructions -- but you'll be pleased you went to the trouble once you get there.
Relaxing stay with great hosts!
A little out of the way yet still close to beaches and the rain forest by car.
Gwenn and Ray are the ultimate hosts: friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. Be sure to check out the binders in the bookshelf full of their personal experiences hiking, beaching and eating around the island. Lovely grounds to stroll, wonderful veranda off the back bedroom with views across verdant hills to the sea. The only downside is the size of the pool; it's more a wading, sitting pool, not much space to swim.

Top 5 Reasons to Stay at Coqui's Hideaway
1. The Property --- Coqui's Hideaway is nestled in the foothills of the El Yunque rain forest & accommodates only 1 group at a time. the property is beautiful & private, both features that we love on a vacation. Because Coqui's is in the foothills of the mountains the views are nothing short of spectacular. You can sit pool-side & look out over the lush tropical mountainside with the ocean in the background.
2. The accommodations --- Fresh flowers great you when you arrive as does a basket including local treats such as coffee, candy, fresh fruit, homemade bread & (my favorite) the ingredients for the perfect Pina Colada. Everything from beach towels to extra pillows to Dvds to buckets & shovels for the beach are provided for you. Ray and Gwenn have thought of everything!
3. The Fruit --- Gwenn is a big tropical fruit fan & this is her playground. Growing on the property are things like bananas, limes, grapefruit, pineapple & things that we've never hear of like caimito, jack fruit, bullock's heart, & more. If you want to sample new types of fruit all you have to do is let your hosts know & they will bring you fruit picked right off of the tree. But my favorite fruit is the grapefruit, fat & lush & full of juice, I had fresh grapefruit or juice every day of our stay.
4. The Knowledge--- Ray & Gwenn's website, www.puertoricodaytrips.com, provides great information about the island, activities, restaurants, beaches, sightseeing & more. To research all of these points of interest they have actually hiked, toured & eaten all over the island. So, they know the island inside & out & can help you find that one thing that you're just dying to do on your vacation.
5. The Hosts --- last but definitely not least, Ray & Gwenn are wonderful hosts. Whether you want to be left alone or need a question answered they can help you. of all of the places that we've stayed Ray & Gwenn are the most gracious, kind & accommodating hosts.
Best vacation ever! Ray and gwenn were amazing hosts and were a wealth of information regarding the island of Puerto Rico and all that there is to do. The residence is centrally located to anything and everything you need but secluded enough for a romantic getaway if that's what you're looking for. We had a fabulous time and can't wait to go back!
An amazing secret getaway!!!
We stayed at Coquis Hideaway for only 3 nights but didn't want to leave after the first night! Ray & Gwenn have thought of everything to make you feel comfortable while exploring the wonderful island of Puerto Rico. The view from all places on the property is amazing and the pool is a delight. One of the best experiences is listening to all the sounds at night that sing you to sleep. We will never go back to a hotel again in Puerto Rico...we have been spolied!!!
Perfect place to spend a vacation
We have visited Puerto Rico many times and Coqui's Hideaway is by far the best on the island. We enjoy having our own house instead of staying in a hotel. The house was spotlessly cleanand we appreciated the gift basic of goodies that awaited us. Gwen & Ray provided many more amenities than a hotel could provide. The house is a short drive from Old San Juan, Luquillo Beach, and El Yunque. The views from the veranda and our own private pool were spectacular. You could see the ocean in the distance! The tropical plants and flowers were unlike any we've seen. I enjoyed morning and evening strolls through the acres of our own botanical gardens. Although there are many things to do on the island you will be reluctant to leave this beautiful property.
A beautiful, relaxing oasis in the foothills of El Yunqui
This is our second year staying at Coqui's Hideaway. We used to stay at the Fajardo Inn (8 years running) in a one room Suite with a kitchenette (microwave and fridge). this is a massive upgrade for about the same price (I think that Coqui's was about $10 cheaper per night) . 2 bedrooms, full kitchen with a breakfast bar, dining room, living room (complete with cable tv and hi speed internet), bathroom and laundry facilities. There is also a bbq outside the front door.
then, there's the private pool. complete with shaded table and chairs, food prep station (counter, sink with running water, mini fridge and another BBQ), Hammock, lounge/sunbathing chairs and a view.
Location was great, halfish way between San Juan and Luquillo. Outlet mall, grocery store and big box stores right near by. 10 minutes from the end of the new toll hiway that takes you to the outlet mall and back to San Juan.
Last but not least, there's the hosts, Ray and Gwenn. They were friendly, helpful, hospitable and all round great people (and Gwenn makes a mean banana bread!)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are planning to return next year.
A dream come true!
We'd been looking forward to our stay at Coqui's Hideaway with great anticipation and I can tell you it was even better than expected. Ray and Gwenn are gracious and knowledgeable hosts, they are experts on all elements of life and leisure on the island. I loved their binders they had in the guest house in which we were able to peruse and learn abut everything from the best waterfalls in the El Yunque rainforest to where to find the most scenic hoseback riding tours. My absolutely favorite thing was the welcome basket we received which included ingredients for a pitcher of pina coladas (yes! the guest house has a blender...and everything else you could possibly use on your stay: washer and dryer, beach stuff, etc...) as well as the basket of fresh fruit picked on the property! We also loved floating in the pool and soaking in the rainforest sounds while gazing at the beautiful vista which reaches all the way to the ocean.
I can not wait to come back to Coqui's Hideaway. It is comfortable, clean, welcoming and over-all a wonderful retreat.
Perfect rainforest getaway location!
We were very pleased with our stay here. The house, grounds, & amenities were all as described; and beautifully well maintained. The owners' attention-to-detail provides all you might need, as far as at home entertainment & excursion activity info. You can enjoy a sense of seclusion & privacy with a great view, while still being a short drive to activities or stores. Great location for hiking EL Yunque rainforest in the morning and spending the afternoon at a beach. One nice surprise for us, was the minimal insect and mosquito presence (compared to previous island stays in other locations). There were some small mosquitoes out after dusk, but not alot- even with all the rain. Even after our hikes through El Yunque, our daughter (who is usually a magnet for insect bites) ended the week with only 1-2 small bites. We had rain showers multiple times during the days & nights, but they were always short and the sun would reappear. The rain didn't hinder any of our activities. (Our girls actually really enjoyed playing in the pool during one of the very light rain showers.)
This is a peaceful getaway location. Many thanks to Ray & Gwenn!!
Our stay at Coqui's Hideaway exceeded our expectations. The home was private and was situated in a beautiful setting of nine acres of gardens, birds, and tropical sounds. The home was very clean and had all the amenities one could ever hope for. There was even a tropical fruit basket and ingredients for making Pina Colladas awaiting us on the kitchen counter. There is a nice pool and patio surrounding it if you are so inclined. The location was very convenient for visiting sites on the eastern part of the island. If you are into nature you will love this place, and it's a short drive to El Yungue National Forest which is the Us's only tropical rainforest. The are lots of hiking trails, waterfalls, and mountain peaks to see in El Yunque. The home contained notebooks of places to go and see, very well done.
The owners live on the site and could not have been more helpful. Our flight was late and we did not arrive until after dark. Ray met us at a restaurant about 3 miles from the Hideaway so we wouldn't get lost on the back road to their place. Amazing. Ray and Guenn were so helpful and kind providing directions to places we wanted to go and see each day.
If you happen to be bird watcher like we are, their place has lots of birds, many of which are endemic. The PR Tody was easy to find with Guenn's help. There are also lots of nature preserves to explore nearby.
We had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to highly recommend Coqui's Hideaway to family and friends.
Fabulous, private rainforest retreat!
What a perfect vacation rental! I'm not sure what Ray and Gwenn could have done to make our stay any better. They truly think of everything and do everything possible to make for an unforgettable stay in the rainforest. Gorgeous location, lovely pool, fabulous accommodations with everything you might need and more, delicious fruit grown right on the property, incredibly friendly owners, detailed instructions and driving directions, discounts for lots of excursions...it all adds up to a perfect stay!
If you like peace and quiet, relaxation, love to cook (or order out), lay around and listen to the tree frogs (coqui) or roosters to get you up in the am; this place is for you. Gwenn/Ray are great, knowledgable hosts. And the dogs were also a wonderful asset, as are were home.
Your own private rainforest retreat featuring pool, fruit trees
A short drive from San Juan, this private rainforest accommodation is 9 acres of beauty you share only with the owners, your hosts. We received a great snacking tour of the fruit trees with host, Ray. We took bananas and other fruit back to our kitchen and made smoothies. They welcomed us with a basket of fruit from the garden as well. My kids loved the little pool (not a lapswim pool at all), I loved the view from the pool. Incredible view from the private deck. The accommodations are nicer that the videos on the website can capture, great value stay. Plan ahead, they book up fast. You need a car to stay here. 15 minute drive to El Yunque, we took great hikes recommended from Ray and Gwenn's folder of daytrips. Relaxers could just stay here all day, though, happily.
A beautiful private place, friendly folks, excellent location an
Everything was in perfect order, carefully labeled for a frustration free stay. The house, pool and property were immaculate and well stocked with everything we coud possibly have wanted. The location was great, close to the ocean and close to Ralphs supermarket and stores.
The Bentzs' personable nature and the attention to details really made for an enjoyable, most excellent visit!
The cost was more than reasonable considering the amenities they provide.
Should we return to PR, we certainly will plan to be staying at Coqui's Hideaway again!.

Fantastic Puerto Rican Get-away
If you are the type of person who likes to find something off of the beaten track, but still close to all amenities and activities; then this it. We loved our stay here. The owners are helpful and have thought of many ways in which to make your vacation comfortable and enjoyable. The property is lovely and well taken care of, and the home was comfortable for our family of 5 and very clean. Many thoughtful touches from the owners such as fresh flowers and fresh fruit from the property, and a few local treats. There are 3 large Binders full of information of the island and the owners are more than happy to answer any questions. You will be happy doing as much or as little as you want here - you never have to leave the pool with the million dollar view- but there is a great beach 15 minutes away, hiking and exploring El Yunque nearby, outlet shopping and grocery are an easy drive. If you want to venture farther you are close to major highways. We highly recommend this property - not if you want a Resort kind of getaway- but if you want to truly relax and experience a little piece of Puerto Rico then this is for you. You will not find a better run vacation home on the island.
Hofheim - Germany
In the middle of the rainforest, georgous garden with beautiful flowers and plants. Apartment is very comfortable and clean. Perfect equipped and a welcome basket with local specialities very nice.
Short drive to the El Yunque to hike and enjoy the rainforest.
If we return to Puerto Rico some days we will definitely stay here again.
Thanks Ray and Gwenn for the fantastic days

Beautiful Quiet Surroundings!!
Very complete facilities, all the comforts of home and then some. The ten minute drive from the highway to the accommodations was well worth it. Our hosts were friendly, informative, helpful, provided a basket of fruit all from the yard and a taste of Puerto Rico basket with all the fixings for Pina Colada was a real treat.
Best were the quiet surroundings, the deck off the main bedroom where we ate all of our meals, and there was even beach chairs and umbrellas etc. for the nearby beaches.
A Great Stay In the Rain Forest
We just comopleted a fantastic stay at Coqui's Hideaway and we are sure to return. I know you'll think I am on the payroll by this review, but believe me I am not! The location of the house is superb, allowing for exploring the national park, beautiful beaches and Old San Juan all from one convenient location. The owners are the best I have ever encountered and made the arrival from the airport a breeze with helpful and detailed descriptions. They have excellent materials to enhance your stay, including useful information on a San Juan visit and on the rain forest. They even provided fresh fruit from the property upon our arrival. The house is spotless and inviting. The pool is wonderful with a great view and the grounds provide a chance to see many fruit trees and local vegetation without leaving the property. We had beakfast each morning on our own veranda overlooking the grounds. Every detail of the house is carefully planned by Ray and Gwen who treat you like a valued guest. The stay was also a great value. We chose to buy local foods and grill at the house so that we could enjoy the pool and house each evening. This is a no brainer: stay at Coqui's Hideaway!

A fabulous end to our vacation!
We spent 1 week in Puerto Rico and split it betwen Rincon and the area near El Yunque. We only wish we had spent more time at Coquis Hideaway--2 days was definitely not enough. But from the time we arrived to the time we left, we enjoyed our stay immensely. Ray was there to meet us when we arrived after dark and made sure we got settled. Seeing the beautiful grounds and the views the next morning was a real treat and so relaxing! Although we had some rain to contend with, we were still able to enjoy the pool and the peaceful setting. The house had absolutely everything you could want or need--I can think of nothing lacking. If you plan to visit the rainforest or the eastern part of the island, you will not be disappointed with Coquis. We hope to return again soon and spend our entire vacation at Coquis. Ray & Gwenn certainly make you feel welcome!
What a gem! Coqui's Hideaway is tucked away in the beautiful mountains of El Yunque. Quiet and relaxing, there was plenty of excitement on the property. From the pool to the winding paths through the fruit trees, there was never a dull moment. Ray and Gwenn were so accommodating to our family. They suggested fantastic trips that were age appropriate for our 2 yr old to enjoy. We will most definitely be staying here again!
Home away from home
The location, house, pool, views and property all surpassed our expectations. Gwen and Ray did everything to make us and our 2 year old feel like this was our home away from home. They have an amazing hideaway, great personalities and an expertise of hundreds of unique things to do around the island. Only the availability would prevent us from staying at this slice of paradise on our next trip. I would not hesitate to stay here again and will recommend Coquis to friends and family.

Everything we expected, and more!
My friends and I stayed here for 2 days post cruise, and all agreed we would love to return just to vacation at Coqui's Hideaway. Ray and Gwenn pay great attention to detail, and we very much enjoyed the fresh fruit, pina coladas and banana bread they had waiting for us. The property is beautiful...and sitting by the pool at night, taking in the sounds and smells was magical. Can't wait to return!!

Our total purpose of our trip to Puerto Rico was to entertain our children and experience a little rest and relaxation from our busy lifestyle at home here in Washington, state.
You folks were very helpfull in our quest with great info on "where to go" and "what to do" and we thank you for making our Fall holiday one to remember.
The accomodations we very nice although a bit off the beaten track. (we are used to being a little less remote)
We enjoyed our privacy the most and the humidity the least which you had nothing to do with!
We will refer as many friends we have who would appreciate the tranquility and beauty you folks have to offer at "Coqui's Hideaway"

A Great Getaway
Loved staying with Gwenn and Ray. They made us feel right at home and were a wealth of knowledge about where to go in Puerto Rico. We were spoiled by the super clean condition of the house. Our next home in Rincon was quite a disappointment after Coqui's Hideaway. We can't wait to go back!
Beautiful gardens, comfortable accommodations.
If you are looking for something different from the "too classic" beach hotels then Coqui's Hideaway may be for you. The home is modern, clean, and more than sufficient. From the tropical fruit picked on site to the fully stocked kitchen to the day trip recommendations Coqui's Hideaway has you covered. The most surprising aspect of our stay was the tropical gardens that makes up their property. Take a stroll at night and inhale the tropical fragrances. Listen to the Coqui and relax by the pool.

A Slice of Heaven!
From the moment we arrived until our departure, Ray and Gwenn ensured we had everything we needed to ensure we had a vacation experience we would treasure for a lifetime. The grounds were impaccably cared for and every aspect of our accomodations was top notch. The pool and the views from the pool and the rear porch were inspirational. Ray and Gwenn welcomed our questions about everything from the many beautiful plants, trees and flowers on the property to the best places to eat and visit in Rio Grande and Fajardo. The Bio-Bay in Laguna Grande, Luquillo Kiosks and El Yunque Rain Forest were a huge success with the entire family. Eating at El Verde was also a great experience for the quality of the food, the price and the friendly staff and patrons.
I highly recommend Coqui's Hideaway. Ray and Gwenn are simply outstanding hosts that have prepared a slice of heaven for their guests.
Coqui's Hideaway is perfection!!
We stayed at Coqui's for 7 days with my husband, 7 year old son and my mother in law. We couldn't have been more blown away! The pictures on the website do not do the house, the gardens or the views justice! Ray was a wonderful host...there when you needed him but giving us privacy the rest of the time. The house is immaculately kept and the decor was beautiful but comfortable. Our very favorite was the view from the veranda. Breathtaking. The fruit basket was well loved by my son and the welcome basket was very thoughtful. Though we were out and about exploring and site seeing (we put 800 miles on the rent-a-car), Coqui's was a welcome site at the end of the day. Coqui's is a great place for families, honeymooners or anyone wanting to escape everyday life for paradise. We are already planning our next trip. As my son said "Mom, can't we just buy Coqui's and stay here forever!".
The Royalty were planning tour next visit before we even left...Priceless!
Much better than a hotel
My husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon. We were beyond pleased with our experience. When we arrived, we thought the house looked even better than the pictures we had viewed online. The house was also immaculately clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The grounds were amazing, and we really enjoyed the view of the rainforest from the back porch and the pool. The location of the house was very convenient to everything we planned to do during our stay.(Note: renting a car is a must.) The price of this rental is definitely reasonable when compared to hotels/resorts in the area, especially when you consider that Coqui's Hideaway has a full kitchen and a washer and dryer, both of which we found to be particularly convenient. Also, Ray and Gwenn are incredibly accommodating when it comes to giving advice on activities and helping with directions. We would definitely recommend Coqui's Hideaway to anyone visiting Puerto Rico.
We had a wonderful time at a wonderful place.
Ray and Gwenn were kind and generous from the beginning of our stay to the very end. They welcomed us with a lovely basket of fruit from the property and they helped us with very detailed travel information on what to do during our last day on the way to the airport. They are extremely helpful. The grounds of the property are well maintained and fun to explore. The house is clean, spacious and very nicely decorated. I have already recommended Coqui's Hideaway to friends.

Our stay at Coqui's Hideaway
Our stay at Coqui's Hideaway was just perfect! After a long flight from Los angeles to San Juan and arriving late into the night, Ray was constantly available by cell phone to help us find our way to Coqui's Hideaway and make us feel comfortable and welcome. We have to stress that Ray stayed up past midnight and waited for us near the main highway to make sure we found our way to the hideaway and showed us the accomodations. The accomodations for the six of us (four adults and two children) was just perfect; the three air-conditioned rooms were just right for us. The living quarters were very clean and well equiped for us to cook our breakfast and lunch and the grill by the pool was perfect for a late-night dinner while the kids enjoyed the pool. We all loved the unrestricted access to the pool while the adults loved either staying in the pool, admiring the scenic view of the surrounding mountains and gardens, which were just spectacular. We enjoyed every aspect of Coqui's Hideaway and were very appreciative of Ray and Gwenn's friendliness and warmth. We will definately return to Coqui's Hideaway, for a longer stay, on our next trip to Puerto Rico. Thank you Ray and Gwenn for your hospitality and assistance. The Tropea Family
Great place, great location, great hosts!
The owners are a perfect combination of there when you need them and invisible when you don't. The house is well furnished and comfortable. I am sure I will return.

Wonderful stay at Coqui's Hideaway!
We loved this place from the moment we drove through the gate. Actually, we loved it even before b/c of the wonderful pre-trip information supplied by Ray and Gwenn. The property is lovely and full of beautiful tropical plants and fruits - some of which will be waiting for the guests on the kitchen counter upon arrival. The welcome basket was lovely and very tastey! The house itself is so comfortable - perfect for a family/extended family/or a couple. The pool is very refreshing as well - with lounge chairs around and a table where you can eat dinner if you choose. The El Verde bbq, which is recommended by Ray and Gwenn, is great. We took the food back to Coqui's and had an incredible Puerto Rican dinner our first night. We spent 10 days total in PR (only a couple of which at Coqui's) and I think that the dinner from El Verde was among our favorite. We went to Culebra and upon arrival decided that we needed to find different accomodations, so we called Ray and he was so helpful in giving us some suggestions! Needless to say, great hospitality at Coqui's! Thanks Ray and Gwenn, we'll be back some day!
special hideaway retreat
This rental was altogether different for us. First of all it was like "home." When we arrived Gwenn and Ray had a welcome basket waiting for us on the counter. We were starving and having the homemade banana bread there was so nice. There were also fresh fruits picked from their garden. We fell in love with the Jamaican cherry. The property and apartment are very well maintained. The veranda is beautiful. The pool area has a terrific view. You are not cooped up in some small spot, you have a huge lush property you can explore. In addition to satellite tv Ray has an extensive collection of vidios to watch. Being able to unwind and relax here was fantastic, whether we were inside or out. Ray and Gwenn know so much about the island and having their information at your fingertips helped make our excursion choices easy. They have several binders full of the printed material from their web site. And they live on the premises,so if you have any further questions about driving, etc. they are so willing to help. Their property is about a half hour drive from the San Juan airport, and maybe 20 minutes to the entrance to El Yunke National Rain Forest. We also took the ferry twice from Fajardo to the island of Culebra. Once to snorkel and kayak, and once to just hang out the most beautiful beach of Flamenco. We did a lot in our short stay (Friday to Friday). There are so many trails to choose from in the rain forest, and Gwenn's excellent reviews helped to pick the one that was right for us. Even before we arrived Gwenn was so accomodating by answering my questions about different day trips to make. I was able to plan ahead a little and make our vacation time more relaxing. This is a beautiful rental and property, and extremely gracious hosts. You will not be disappointed!
Jeff and Sue
My husband and I spent 5 nights at Coqui's Hideaway in late april. We wish we had booked for longer! The house was bright and clean and had all the comforts of home plus some. Ray and Gwenn have thought of every possible convenience. We loved the property, especially the beautiful landscaping around the pool area. We ate all of our meals outside on the terrace, at night listening to the coquis and watching the twinkling lights of San Juan. The location was great for visiting sites in the Eastern part of the island. We did two trips to the rainforest, a day trip over to Culebra and a day trip into San Juan. Ray provided beach chairs, a cooler and even the small containers to make the day trips, and packing a picnic lunch fun and easy. There is also a huge, well-stocked supermarket just a few minutes away. Ray was great to deal with, he provided lots of useful information ahead of our visit as far as local restaurants, groceries and reliable tours etc. The welcome basket with fruit from his garden, and supplies for pina coladas was a nice surprise. We would definitely recommend Coqui's and would definitely book here again if we come back to Puerto Rico.
This house is lovely, very well maintained, and cleaned to perfection. I felt that it was even nicer in person than how it presented in the online pictures. The property is gated and secure; we felt very safe at this location. Ray and Gwenn thought of everything, stocking the house with every incidental that could possibly be needed for a smooth, stress-free vacation. They reside on the grounds (the house is divided into two sections - their residence and the vacation rental), making them easily accessible to answer questions or attend to any concerns. Just be aware that the water from the kitchen faucet acquires a pungent taste if it sits in the pipes too long. We resolved this issue by filling a pitcher with drinking water immediately after the dishes had been washed in the sink and the water had run for a few minutes. Read more
Response from Ray & Gwenn Bentz - 05/27/2012
No one has ever mentioned the taste of the water in the kitchen sink. We'll look into it and see if there's something we can do about it. Thanks for the heads up!
Excellent House and Hosts
Coqui's Hideaway is just as you see it in the pictures from the website - clean, organized and well maintained. Ray answered our questions during our stay (places to eat, things to see, plants and flowers on the property, etc). The pool on the property was a welcome retreat after a day out sightseeing. Dinner on the veranda watching the sunset was another favorite for us. The binders that were provided with helpful information about Puerto Rico were quite helpful. I'd recommend reading the blogs from their sister site before your stay so you can have an idea of what you'd like to see and do. Can't say enough good things about Coqui's Hideaway (and the owners).
It was a W E S O M E!!!
Ray's place is a peaceful home. It is very clean and comfortable, It has everything our home has and more. His yard is breath taking with his fruit trees and exotic tropical flowers. The pool area is the best. It has everything for the perfect Texas style outdoor bbq, with a beautiful panoramic view of the northeast side of PR. My only regret is that I only stayed two days. We are planning a trip back for next year. Thanks again Ray, see y'all soon.
Gorgeous, a slice of paradise.
Coqui's hideaway has to be one of the best accommodations I have ever had in Puerto Rico. I have visited the island 3 times. The "casita" felt like home walking in. The property itself is gorgeous. Beautiful lush gardens of fruit and tropical flowers. The veranda afforded a beautiful view of the surrounding rainforest and in the distance the ocean. The suite was had everything we needed to make a wonderful dinner, snuggle into watch a movie, or just lounge about on the outside hammock next to the pool. Very convenient to El Yunque, Luquillo, Fajardo's Bio Bay, and a short drive into San Juan. Highly recommended!
Great stay in the rainforest
Coqui's Hideaway is a great place to stay in the Caribbean National Forest. The owners live in half of the building, and the other half is available for guests. Beautiful views out to the ocean about 10 miles away from the verandah and the pool. The unit is very comfortable, private and quiet, well maintained and clean. It takes about 8 minutes to drive the 3.5 miles up from the main road (route 3), where there are grocery stores and restaurants. Very comfortable for an extended stay. We'll definitely go back next time we're in Puerto Rico.
Love to go
Fun! It was like staying at your family's beach house :)
Great place up in the mountains. 20 min from a wonderful public beach (Luquillo) and maybe 25 min to go down and then back up the mountain to El Yunque (landslide/road closed.) We were 2 couples traveling and it is great to have a "house" set up where you can make a few meals and whirl up some cocktails to enjoy by the private pool. The view from the pool is gorgeous- across the mountains you can see to Isla Verde and the landscaping is also very pretty. We slept at night with the windows open and enjoyed the small sounds of nature. The beds were good. The house was very clean and anything that you needed was there. The hosts are accessible but not hovering. They are also super knowledgeable about things to do in the area.
Ohio Beach Goer
Great stay. Second visit.
We had a great time on our first visit so we took some friends this time for a weekend. The house is clean and the grounds are beautiful. All you will here is the evening rain and tree frogs. Close to airport and beaches yet a nice getaway.
Pamplemousse and the Monkey King
Coqui's Hideaway in Rio Grande, PR completely exceeded our expectations.
The rental is bright, cheery, and sparkling clean, and is perfectly suited to accommodating couples and families alike.
The grounds are spectacular, with fruit trees, a swimming pool, and a fabulous view of the forest and sea beyond.
Coqui's Hideawy is located off a winding road, and feels faraway, but we learned quickly that it's just a short drive to the beaches, Old San Juan, Luquillo, and Fajardo. We are so happy to have chosen Coqui's Hideaway instead of staying in the city or at a crowded beach resort.
Ray and Gwenn are exellent hosts and are very helpful with advice concerning the grounds, the area, and all sorts of activities. We especially enjoyed eating freshly picked fruits Gwenn provided (bananas! canistels! guavas! starfruits!).
We are very much looking forward to staying at Coqui's Hideaway again, hopefully soon.

Our family spent 6 days at Coqui's Hideaway. It was conveniently located for exploring the eastern half of PR. We went on day trips to San Juan, hiking in El Yunque, out on a catamaran to Icacos Island for snorkeling. After a day in which we had a long hike in El Yunque, we spent one day just hanging out at Coqui's. The gardens are lovely with a vast array of orchids & bromeliads. The pool area has a wonderful view down the mountainside to the ocean. And Ray & Gwenn are terrific hosts: they made our holiday very special, providing fruit from their gardens, and special Christmas treats. It was a wonderful place to stay.
the house and pool were great ray was very freindly and helpful i can't wait to go back. i wish i c ould go tomorrw.
Awesome experience at Coqui's post Hurricane Irene
My sister, a cousin and I stayed at Coqui's for a long weekend girl's trip in august 2011. Our arrival was just 5 days after Hurricane Irene hit the island and power had not yet been fully restored, including at Coqui's for the first day or so. The owners, Ray and Gwenn, were very honest about the conditions on the island prior to our arrival and offered to refund our money if we decided to cancel. We decided to come anyway and loved our "Survivor Style" getaway. The owners made extra efforts to make our stay as comfortable as possible and help us find replacement activities for those that were canceled due to the hurricane. Ultimately, we were able to do all of the we planned, have some time to relax on the gorgeous property and enjoy the beautiful weather. During our stay we went ziplining/rapellking, snorkeled on Culebra, kayaked in the Fajardo bio bay and toured Old San Juan and Coqui's was in a perfect location. Our group agreed that we would definitely stay here again on a return trip to PR and highly recommend it to our friends and family. Thanks to Ray and Gwenn for an awesome trip!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Coqui's Hideaway. Ray and Gwen were the most gracious hosts and a wealth of information. We just couldn't believe what a beautiful place we were staying in. Thanks so much for opening your home to us.
Ray and Gwen were the perfect hosts!. Wonderful Puerto Rican "care basket" welcomed us. Tremendous guides to hiking in El Yunque and super discounts on a variety of activities. In addition, Ray and Gwen provided lots of helpful information on what to expect relative to cultural differences, driving, etc. Lastly, the recommendations for dining were very delicious. By far the bext place I've stayed in a long time. We'll be back.
Favorite Places to stay in Puerto Rico

Beautiful Vacation Rental
We loved Coqui's Hideaway! The house was wonderful, the grounds beautiful, and the pool just lovely. We had a fantastic time. The home included everything we needed, and then some. We enjoyed our hike in El Yunque (thanks to Ray's recommendation regarding which falls to visit), our visit to Luquillo Beach, and the area restaurants. We picked up our first night's dinner at El Verde (Ray's recommendation), and that was delicious. We also ate at the Ossobucco kiosko in Luquillo (Puerto Rican-Italian cuisine), and that was outstanding. We only had two nights at Coqui's Hideaway, as we were visiting other parts of Puerto Rico on our trip, but we all agreed that that was our favorite place. I would highly recommend Coqui's Hideaway to anyone visiting the area.

Our wonderful home in Puerto Rico
Coquis Hideaway was an awesome home base for us as we explored Puerto Rico. The house's location was centrally located for everything we wanted to do. The accommodations were extremely comfortable and Ray & Gwenn anticipated all of our needs (welcome basket, movies, kitchen supplies, beach towels, etc). Knowing we were coming back to Coquis every night made our daily trips more relaxing and enjoyable.
Ray & Gwenn have put a lot of time into the binders that review things to do. Their suggestions for restaurants and coupons for activities is well worth the review.
The internet service has limitations but that is a limitation of the internet carrier in the country not specific to this home.
Overall, we felt safe, taken care of and relaxed!

Perfect Secluded Getaway
We absolutely loved this place! Everything we needed was there for us. It was a home away from home. The gardens and pool area were incredible! We spent the first day and a half just exploring the property. The welcome basket and champagne were a wonderful personal touch and the banana bread was so delicious! It made for a great breakfast. The house was beautiful and clean and we found that we had everything we needed. Our stay at Coqui's Hideaway is what made our honeymoon so special. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
Our stay at Coquis Hideaway was absolutely fantastic. The detail put into a having a comfortable vacation home away from home was phenomenal!! Ray and Gwenn were so helpful, and never made us feel like we were "bugging them" We will definitely stay there again, would never get this much value at any hotel on or off the beach!! Thanks Ray and Gwenn!!
Coqui's Hideaway is one of our favorite places to stay in when we go to Puerto Rico. It is a small paradise island within the island. The natural beauty and surrounding is uniquely beautiful. The living arrangements are clean and comfortable, and if you travel to Puerto Rico a lot you will know how clean, beautiful, and comfortable don't always go together. However, this place is one that we love staying in every time we travel to Puerto Rico. It's one of a kind and truly amazing. Did I mention clean...
Saint Paul, MN
This was our first stop when arriving to Puerto Rico for the honeymoon I surprised my wife with. Given the surprise and how it was revealed the day before, the hype and anticipation for the trip was very high. It got me thinking, "what if it's not as great as the reviews said?"
Well no worries there because it was everything we had read about and seen on the web and more! Gwenn and Ray were simply fantastic and would have made great hosts no matter what the accommodations and setting... but the fact that we were located in a rain forest paradise with impeccable accommodations made it that much more perfect. My new bride and I agreed we wouldn't have changed a single thing about the choice to go to Coquis Hideaway, other than that we'd have love to stayed longer!
The other reviews here pretty much speak for themselves so I won't repeat all the wonderful things about this place, other than that Gwenn and Ray really do think and genuinely care about every detail. We haven't ever experienced anything like their thoughtfulness when traveling. Truly fantastic. Thanks for getting our perfect honeymoon off to a wonderful start!
Best View, Home, and "Bang for the Buck" in Puerto Rico
If you are looking for a place with wonderful hosts, views, and that makes you feel like you have a home in the middle of an oasis then Coqui's Hideway is for you. From the communication before the trip to the constant availablity during our trip, Ray and Gwenn made our stay perfect. It doesn't get better than this place!

Quality home! Centrally Located! Friendly and Helpful Hosts!
The simplest way for me to review Coquilles' Hideaway is to tell you to scan over all the reviews (and they are all positive reviews) that other people wrote. Then multiply by ten. That will come close to describing the wonderful time we had there.
As hosts, Ray and Gwenn go above and beyond. For us, they were an unexpected integral part of our vacation plans. They guided us and helped us find wonderful things to do based on our particular interests. It turned out that they are more knowledgeable about the area than anyone else including, and perhaps especially, the government tourism board. Ray and Gwenn's suggestions made our trip a true vacation!
The house was immaculate. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. We were so comfortable there that we actually "wasted” two days hanging around the house and the pool! ? As vacation rental managers ourselves, we noticed, and appreciated, every attention to detail. And there were many! Everything from the welcome basket which included fresh tropical fruit from their trees to discrete signs around the house gently reminding you of the features of the house. Then there are the volumes with local information with not just a list of things to do, but their impressions and experiences at those places.
The whole package created an environment where we felt like comfortably at home in a new and beautiful place; with people nearby (but not hovering!) who simply wanted us to have a wonderful time while we were there.
Look no further as this is the home to rent. This was our second stay at Coqui's and it does not disappoint. The location is superb. It's close to everything. The house is charming and the Owners are excellent hosts. The pool is the spotlight amenity. The pool area features bbq grill, covered veranda, dinner table, lounge chairs, sink, fridge, and amazing view of the island and sea. Love the enormous dvd collection. It's constantly updated. Beach chairs and beach towels are a real plus, too. The coqui frogs really bothered us the 1st night and we moved into the other master bedroom-slept like a king/queen. The house is fully equipped. We had laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, toilet paper, computer, sugar, everything that the comforts of home afford. Amazing place. You will not be disappointed.
Wonderful Hideaway in the Rainforest!
Coqui's Hideaway is a fantastic rental home in the most gorgeous location. The lush, tropical land encompassing the home is truly idyllic and the home is spacious and contains every conceivable item one can possibly desire on a tropical getaway! Ray and Gwenn are amazing hosts as well. Top notch, will definitely stay at Coqui's Hideaway again!!
Every single detail is taken care of!
This was our second visit to Coqui's Hideaway and again, we couldn't have been happier. They have actually improved the house with adding a dishwasher and a laptop computer. Now it truly is the perfect place to stay. There is so much room with the big living room, the spacious kitchen, 2-3 large bedrooms, your own private veranda, and a private pool area. It almost makes you not want to leave to explore the island. The owners will help you out with directions, advice, or anything else you need. The discount for being repeat guests was a great bonus, too! We certainly hope to be back again someday.
Great place! The property was awesome and so well maintained. Had fun walking the grounds, enjoying the view, pool and all the amenities. Ray and Gwenn were very friendly and helpful. The place felt very private and seculded. They had tons of information on what to do where to go, great directions and very thorough on instructions. All the ingredients for a great vacation. If we went back to Puerto Rico I wouldn't stay any other place!

Ray and Gwenn have a beautiful property that is convenient to Old San Juan and Fajardo. The rental home is large, brightly colored and very clean. The ceiling fans made the use of the air conditioning unnecessary. The veranda is quite large and has a beautiful view--we used it for eating breakfast and as a sitting area whenever we were in the house. Ray and Gwenn were available for information about the area and, as evidenced by their PuertoRicoDaytrips website, are very knowledgeable about the entire island. Overall, this is a very special place at a very reasonable price.
Beautiful and Therapeutic
I wish we could have stayed longer than three days! Coqui's Hideaway is serene and beautiful. Very comfortable accomondations and terrific hosts.
Southern Pines, NC, USA
Coqui's Hideaway is one of the absolute best private vacation rentals, and we have stayed at many across the country. It is as advertised, and maybe even better than ... Probably one of the best and most welcome things Ray and Gwenn provide are in-depth accounts of all there is to do in Puerto Rico, from their very own first-person view.
We Couldn't ask For a Better Place to Stay!
Coquis Hideaway was great, Gwenn and Ray were wonderful hosts. The location allows you to get to many different areas easily and what a great place to come home to after a day out enjoying the sun. We loved it!
Old San Juan, PR & Gloucester, MA
enchanting view to the north
Very welcoming with our own part of the house, refrigerator with all the things we wouldn't have to buy for a few nights' stay. All the amenities one would find at home. The volumes of past "Puerto Rican Day Trips" articles helped us find more fascinating places to visit on the island, even though we've spent for winters here.
Wonderful mountain-side home
Ray and Gwenn were extremely friendly, and helped us with suggestions of different area museums and gardens to visit. Their home is very nice, and is surrounded by a yard that seems like a botanical garden. We really enjoyed exploring all of the different (labeled) tropical plants in their yard, and enjoyed fresh grapefruits and plantains from the fruit trees. If you want to stay in a beautiful vacation home with very helpful hosts, Coqui's Hideaway is the place to stay.

It was better than advertised
From the moment we arrived Ray was a gracious and helpful host. Our flight arrived a few hours late. Since it was dark out, he met us at the main highway and led us up through the mountain road to the house. Throughout our stay, Ray and Gwenn were available if we needed anything, but also respected our privacy when we walked around the grounds or hung out in the residence. We loved exploring the sorrounding gardens and rainforest. The house was immaculately clean and had everything we needed including a full kitchen, as well as a washer and dryer. Our favorite place in the house was the veranda overlooking the rainforest and ocean. The only drawback was a neighbor's dog that barked a little more often than we would have preferred. With that said, Ray is working on the situation and it really didn't take away from our enjoyment of our stay.
Cano Puerto Rico vacation
We had a wonderful vacation in Puerto Rico and stayed at Coquis Hideaway. Ray and Gwenn maintain a beautiful home at the foothills of El Yunque national forest. Ray and Gwenn have thought of every detail including clean and roomy house, satellite TV / Dvds, comfortable air conditioning / ceiling fans, a lot of information on restaurants and things to do, nice tropical fruit (manzana bananas were excellent), beach towels / chairs, beautiful pool and gardens, and many other amenities. It is in a perfect location to visit the beach, rain forest, San Juan, restaurants, and excursions. Ray provided a 10% off coupon with East Island Excursions (Ray and Gwenn provide discounts for other excursions) and we had a great time snorkeling off the East Wind catamaran. We also had lechon at Guavate, toured Old San Juan, laid and swam at the beautiful Luquillo beach (La Monserrate), took fantastic photos while driving the coastline to Humacao and Pinones, shopped at Plaza Carolina, and had many great and diverse meals (from lechon to chinese food). The Puerto Rico people were always nice and very helpful giving directions during our driving adventures. If you plan to stay at El Coquis Hideaway, you will need a rental car and a little spanish would help -- though many of the people in Puerto Rico do speak English. Though we did not have the chance to meet Gwenn, Ray was always helpful and made the visit comfortable and fun.
Thank you Ray and Gwenn! We hope we get a chance to visit your beautiful home again and lovely Puerto Rico!

Decadent and affordable
We had a lovely time in PR and loved coming home to Coqui's. Ray and Gwenn were always helpful without intruding at all on our space. The pool and views were spectacular. Our favorite night was grilling by the pool, toasting with the (thoughtfully provided) pina coladas, and listening to the wildlife. Truly a great way to enjoy friends. We will definitely return if we are in PR again!
For a true island experience
We had a very enjoyable stay at Coquis hideaway. We were a family of 6 (5 adults, 1 kid). This is a great place to explore the North and North east of the island, El Yunque, San Juan old town, the several beaches at a 30 minute or less drive.
Ray and Gween's place has beautiful gardens, a great pool area with an amazing view. The house is very comfortable and has all the appliances needed.
Ray was always very helpful. He has a very good knowledge of the island. He will quickly understand your needs (if any) and will make great suggestions.
Short but very sweet
We had a great time at Coqui's. The place was equipped with everything we could possibly need. It was beautiful, serene and comfy as could be. Ray and Gwenn were terrific hosts. The only thing that could have made it better was to have had more than two nights.
Long Island, New York
Right on Nature's Doorstep
Coqui's Hideaway was a wonderful choice for our family. We stayed 4 nights and our plans included a zipline, hiking the rainforest, snorkelling, kayaking, horsebackriding, and Luquillo beach, all of which are within a 30-minute drive. So Coqui's location and natural atmosphere worked in perfectly with our plan. Unfortunately, most of our plans were washed away by a tropical "disturbance" that poured several inches of rain upon us each day. Ray was gracious to offer suggestions and driving directions for alternate plans. During our rainy stay we spent many more hours indoors at Coqui's than planned so we were appreciative of having the extra space to read or nap while the boys played or caught up on the latest Dvds in the extensive collection that the Hideaway offers.
Best Rental in Puerto Rico!
We stayed at Coqui's Hideaway for only 2 nights! Had we known just how wonderful it was we would have stayed longer and made Coqui's our home base. Ray and Gwenn go above and beyond! Our stay was perfect but too short!
San Antonio, Texas
Our family stayed at Coqui's while visiting El Yunque and among the many homes and villas we have stayed at in the Caribbean it was in the top three in every category. The hospitality we received was top notch. The owners' vast knowledge of the island helped us make plans and just "get" the Puerto Rican culture. They were always available and yet we never felt intruded upon...it was as if we had the estate to ourselves until we needed something. We truly appreciated their warmth and the many small amenities like the fresh fruit basket which made us feel welcome and pampered in every way. The house was impeccably clean and the grounds were amazing. The veranda was a great place to wind down and relax or have a breakfast with what is truly one of the most breathtaking views on the island all to ourselves. This property is definitely underpriced for what you receive. Our only regret is that we had not booked for a few more days. I recommend Coqui's Hideaway without reservation.
Perfect paradise with all the comforts of home
Coqui's Hideway is a beautifully situated guesthouse on the side of a mountain with gorgeous views and grounds. This rental has been thoughtfully outfitted with everything a vacationer could want and more. The pool is a lovely place to relax amid the landscaped grounds overlooking the valley. The back porch is set-up perfectly for meals, or hanging out and enjoying the view. The house had everything we could possibly need for a day at the beach. The owners provide such extensive information on visiting Puerto Rico that it would be a great place to begin your trip and take advantage of all their knowledge. There are so many wonderful activities situated nearby one could easily spend a week or more.
Very relaxing with beautiful views
We spent 3 nights at the Coquis Hideway. We arrived to a welcome basket that included banana bead, fruits, snacks and pina colada ingredients, what a welcome. The place is beautiful. As soon as we get there, my kids were in the pool and my husband and I were sitting watching them surrounded by an incredible view.
The hosts, Gwen and Ray, are great. Any questions I had before the trip were answered quickly. There is 2 huge books filled with information on things to do in Puerto Rico. They were there is you had any questions or need any suggestions. Ray took our family to see the secret waterfall. You can tell they really love what they do.
We rented the 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom. The kids were very comfortable. They loved all the dvds, Tv and internet service. There is a deck off one of the bedrooms, what a view. We also grilled out.
I can't say enough about this place. If you plan a trip to Puerto Rico, this is a must place to stay. It is close to the rainforest, San Juan, beaches and biobay trips.
San Antonio, Texas
Exceeded Our Expectations
There were six of us. Four adults and two teen boys ages 14 and 17. Everyone was thrilled with every aspect of our stay. No complaints whatsoever.
Ray and Gwen were great. Ray was very attentive and amicable to any needs or questions we had. I enjoyed visiting with Gwen and gaining insight as to real life living in Puerto Rico. She also let my 14-year-old play frisbee with one of the dogs, which made him very happy.
The tours they recommended were great. They gave us a coupon for discounted golf, that we had not anticipated, and were very grateful for. They also have a wonderful collection of DVD movies, which we all enjoyed.
We spent a week here to unwind before taking a 7 day cruise for my 50th birthday. I had done some pretty extensive research and knew that I did not want to stay in a mega-hotel room. I looked for a clean place where we could spread out a bit, cook some of our own meals and feel at home. Coquis Hideaway fit my needs perfectly.
We spent a couple evenings cooking out by the pool and relaxing. The photos do not do it justice. The view is amazing and the grounds are extremely well manicured. It is truly a haven of relaxation.
It was a wonderful start to a great birthday. Ray and Gwenn's hospitality was icing on the cake.
Coqui's Hideaway went way beyond me and family's expectations! This trip was a graduation trip for me, my husband, our daughter, and her girlfriend. We needed a place where the adults could relax, but 2 teenaged girls could feel like adults and wonder around on their own. Coqui's 9 acres was perfect! Ray and Gwen meet us at the home, prepared a welcome basket and even hung a "congratulation grad" banner in the living room! The pics on this site can not possibly show you how beautifully maintained this home and it's grounds are. And the views are storybook gorgeous. There are two huge binders in the house with information on outings on the island... Use them, especially if you are looking to tour the island without the typical tourist crowds. I still can't get over how detailed the information was. For food..all you need is El Verde's at the bottom of the hill..seriously, and try the yucca with garlic sacue! And make sure you take the time to go to the "secret waterfall" around the corner from the house...of course, directions are in the binders! Again, great house, great hosts, and wonderful trip!!
We had a wonderful stay at Coqui's Hideaway. The location is stunning and we relaxed the second we arrived. The gardens and view are stunning. I loved wandering the grounds and listening to the cacophony of sounds of the rainforest including the coqui frog. The house is very comfortable, clean, and well appointed with lots of extras including stuff for the beach, coffee and other staples in the kitchen, and a huge selection of DVDs. Binders full of information regarding hikes and day trips were extremely helpful with all the information that you need (including detailed driving directions). Ray and Gwenn are wonderful hosts, welcoming, attentive, and available for all questions, etc... I also appreciated the ease with which we were able to make our reservation including timely responses to e-mails. We loved the fruit basket and basket of Puerto Rico treats and enjoyed the banana bread on the trail! Our sons (11 and 7)loved the pool. We spent 2 days exploring the rainforest. Highlights were hiking to Juan Diego falls and swimming on the river (the Angelito trail I think). Both provided welcome respite from the midday sun and lots of boy action building dams, swimming in the waterfall, etc... We also enjoyed a kayaking excursion to the biobay in Fajardo. A fun adventure even for our 7 year old. We would highly recommend Coqui's Hideaway.
Thanks for a great stay!
An Awesome Nature Experience in Puerto Rico. The Sights & Sounds
My family and I had a wonderful stay at the "Hideway". After taking a 7 days Cruise out of Puerto Rico we wanted to spend some "quality" time when we returned from the cruise. No need to rush home right !! We had been to Puerto Rico twice before but stayed in the standard Tourist areas. This time we really wanted to experience Puerto Rico and see the beauty of the country.
Ray and Gwenn were the perfect hosts. We were truly welcomed. The fruit basket and homemade Banana Bread were an added treat. The name truly fits their vacation home. After a relatively short trip from the airport (that's where we rented the car) - we stopped at the Barcardi Plant for the free tour. Little did we know what kind of treat we were in for. The views up the road to Ray and Gwenn's are nice but once you get to the Hideaway and see the property, hear the sounds of nature and the smells of the flowers. You will know you made the right choice - we did. The pool area is very nice (Showers and a fridge) and they can tell you everything about where to go to get anything you may want. They have all the info and directions on any other adventure you may want to pursue while there. We hits the Grocery Store (Ralphs) after we dropped of our luggage. Make sure you go to Palmer's Bakery on the way to the Rain Forest and get a sandwich or something sweet. I would say your first time there try to get there before dark it will be easier to find. But, after one time you know where you are going. The accomodations were very nice and we would go there again. Thanks for a Great ending to our Vacation !! The Hunters' and The Ashleys'
VACATIONING IN PARADISE
How do we love staying at the COQUIS HIDEAWAY, let us count the ways:
Ray and Gwenn - superb host and hostess
House - Very clean and a few little "treats" for us
Pool - Very clean - just the right size and scenery
is with out a doubt like paradise.
Grounds and flowers - just beautiful!
Can't stop talking about our stay in Puerto Rico -
It deserves over 10 stars ...book this place - you will NOT be sorry! The best to you Ray and Gwenn
We hope to be back Ron, Cindy, Sally & Pete
My husband, 20 month year old, and I had a wonderful time staying at Coquis Hideaway El Yunque Rain Forest Villa. The home was very clean and pleasant. The owners were very nice and hospitable. They welcomed us with a gift basket of fresh fruit from the property and wonderful banana bread. The property is absolutely beautiful. Our 20 month old enjoyed running around exploring all the flowers and picking bananas and grapefruit from the trees. She also loved the pool. We went on a few hikes in the Rain Forest and also visited the beach. The house came with beach chairs, towels, and toys for the beach which was very convenient. The best part of our stay was enjoying the quiet environment, the sound of birds and coquis, and being a family together in a very relaxed and private setting.
Saved our trip
I was happy enough at the first place we stayed in Puerto Rico but it really wasn't making for a relaxing vacation. Staying at Coquis Hideway was fantastic. Very relaxing. Beautiful setting. We only spent two days there but it put a much needed peaceful and relaxing spin on the trip. Its very convenient to the rain forest area so if you want to spend time there, this is really the place for you. We highly recommend it.
The Dahlke family
The best place we've ever stayed!
Coqui's Hideaway is simply the best! They have taken care of every little detail from labeling all the light and fan switches to having every single thing you would ever need in the kitchen. They also have thought of everything you'll ever need for the beach with beach towels, beach blankets, beach umbrella, etc. And that's just the beginning......the grounds are absolutely stunning with flowers everywhere, fruit trees, and the pool!! Oh my gosh....the pool area! They have a gas grill, a sink, a mini-frig, a hammock, a beautiful patio set with a fan above. We spent a lot of time grilling out, playing cards, and enjoying the gorgeous view ~ you can see all the way to the ocean! We really wanted to make sure that we had enough time to just hang out at the house and pool just because it is so gorgeous and relaxing. They also have a binder FULL of information about things to do in the area. I had read most of their posts on "puertoricodaytrips.com" so we had our week planned but it's so awesome to have all of that information at your fingertips. The other really great thing about having Ray and Gwenn next door is that they were there if you needed them with directions or advice but they give you all the privacy you want. We had asked them before we came if they had an IPod player for the pool ~ Ray replied that they didn't but guess what.....by the time we arrived, they had bought one!! We have never had service like that in all the places we've ever stayed! We have 2 adult children and having the 3 bedrooms was so perfect so that they could have their space, too. Oh, did I mention the hundreds of movies that they have to watch on the big screen TV? I've been telling my friends so much about this place that I think some of them might plan a trip to Puerto Rico just to stay at Coqui's Hideaway! We are already dreaming of the day that we can come back and stay again.
I would recommend Coquis Hideaway if you are looking for something different from the hotel scene. It was great to be a part of Puerto Rico by living in one of their neighborhoods. Even better was having our own personal "travel agents", Ray and Gwen living next door. They were there when we had questions about attractions. They also provided notebooks with activities they had experienced and they written about. The house was very inviting and comfortable for our family of four. Much better than a cramped hotel room. Our teenagers LOVED the acreage that came with the house and we spent several days just hanging at our private pool, walking/exploring all the tropical trees and plants and even hiking to a waterfall nearby. Half of our pictures of the trip came from Coquis Hideaway. The welcome basket Gwen prepared was delicious and we always had bananas and grapefruit every morning. We used the grill to cook out for many of our meals.
The house was 15 min from the Luquillo beach where we spent time on three different days. 10 min from EL Yunque National Forest, the only rainforest in the US territory. And 40 min from Old San Juan.
I appreciated how Ray was very prompt in responding to all emails that I sent before and after our stay.
We would definitely stay there again!!!
Old San Juan/Gloucester, MA
Nothing to improve
Terrific view of Lugillo foothills and the Atlantic Ocean. We found all the small things in the refrig needed for our two night stay. A great welcome package. We spent an evening looking through the complete selection of reviews. This was our third winter stay in Puerto Rico and find the reviews (Puerto Rico Day Trips) very much on target and with the kind of detail that guide books can't provide. We've already made reservations for a longer stay next year.

Outstanding Hospitality, Great View!
We truly enjoyed our stay with Ray and Gwenn. They went out of their way to
make us feel welcome, even providing us with a welcome basket of fruit and
other goodies. Their personal tour of the grounds was very interesting and
educational. The accommodations were very clean and well kept. The view
from the balcony of our part of the house was awesome. We highly
recommend staying at Coquis whether you're looking for a quiet getaway
location, or wanting to explore.
Beautiful home away from home
We stayed a week at Coqui's Hideaway and found it delightful! Everything was accurately described on their website except it was even better than expected. Ray and Gwenn's attention to detail is outstanding, and they are the perfect hosts who are there to help if needed but without compromising privacy. This is a great place to enjoy Puerto Rico away from other tourists but still with easy options to see and do an endless variety of activities. Sparkling clean and totally safe.
Seacoast New Hampshire
We stayed at Coquis Hideaway for one week in February. Everything was perfect, from the clean, modern, accomodations, the lush, private tropical setting, to the friendliness of Gwenn and Ray. We could have done more exploring of the island and managed to do some day trips every day, but it Coquis Hideaway is a very difficult place to leave. Relaxing and reading by the pool, with the lovely views, wandering the well maintained grounds and observing the artfully designed landscaping was just the mid-winter break we needed from the snow and ice of the Northeast. Thanks, Gwenn and Ray, for sharing your lovely space of the world with us. It couldn't have been better!

Puerto Rico GEM!!!
Coqui's Hideaway offers a vacation experience that is just plain hard to beat!
It's definitely off the beaten path, a little hard to get in and out of ... but that is part of it's charm!
If you enjoy a clean, comfortable, quiet, relaxing "villa" type of setting ... this place has it in spades!
You'll also be pleasantly surprised by some of the things that you probably weren't expecting.
The first thing you'll likely notice is a bouquet of beautiful and exotic flowers in a vase on table,
followed by a gift basket of "goodies" including the ingredients for a blender-full of Pina Colada and some of the best banana bread that I've ever had!
Another bowl on the counter is chock full of tropical fruits ... fresh-picked from the amazing 9-acre gardens that you'll explore later.
After you become settled, you'll discover more of the details, and you'll begin to realize and appreciate the obvious effort and commitment that the owners have put into providing you with a pleasant vacation experience.
Virtually all of the "local attractions" questions you may have ... have already been answered! There are 3 binders of "What to see", "How to get there" (and by the way, you get discount coupons for the asking!)
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook for yourself. About the only thing you won't find is a dishwasher.
There's a covered deck off the Master BR, complete with a patio table and lounge chairs.
There are 2 propane grills. One near the door, and another at the pool.
Beach towels and gear, including chairs, umbrella, and snorkel equip are provided.
The pool itself is fairly small and "refreshing" (translation: "un-heated"), but it's very clean and well-maintained. There's a covered deck, a mini-fridge, that gas grill, a table and chairs, and comfy loungers.
The bottom line:
Would I recommend it to friends?
Would I stay there again myself?
Book it now!

Very special gem on the eastern island on Puerto Rico.
We were so lucky to have found Ray & Gwenn's place on vrbo.com. I can not explain the very special place these Owners have created for visitors. We visited many areas of the island (and off-Vieques) and it is by far the only place worth an extended return visit.
All the other reviews are correct. The location is perfect. We spent a long day at El Yunque. We took some advice we found online and arrived at the forest at 7am (truck loads of tourist buses arrive promptly at 9am). We had the forest all to ourselves. After several hours of exploring, we called it a day and headed to the house.
The house-I can not say anything negative about the house, The position of the pool is breathtaking. The grounds are unbelieveable. It is a welcome surprise to see how much pride these Owners have taken in the island.
Gwenn and Ray have really outdone themselves. It is like a private mini-resort.
You can easily take a day trip to anywhere on the island. It's a perfect home base.
Thank you so much for welcoming us into your home. We think you've got life all figured out! And we really enjoyed our time here. It was, of course, too brief - but we never like to leave the island.
It's amazing that we just came from a high-end resort (the Rio Mar) but didn't feel as though we were truly "in paradise" until reaching your beautiful home. There was something truly relaxing, home-like, and heart-warming about grilling at the pool, fixing our meals, and spending family time together at Coqui's Hideaway. You have definitely made this a memorable visit for us at one of our favorite places.
Coqui's Hideaway is definitely in our thoughts for our next trip to Puerto Rico.
PS - We are looking forward to exploring Piñones on our way to the airport. Thanks for the recommentation! Also, the rainforest was awesome! We did pack a picnic lunch - also a great suggestion!
Before our arrival here, we ate at the kiosks & visited that beach - always fun! And we recommend the restaurant Antojito's for great authentic Puerto Rican food - good food, fair prices and a kids' menu. Try the red snapper and crab mofongo.

Great house with all the necessities and much, much more. Perfect for families to spread out and kids to take naps and have early bedtimes, while Mom and Dad watch movies. Ray and Gwenn are excellent hosts and have thought everything out. Close to the rain forest and beaches.
This was the best vacation the wife and I ever had. Ray and Gwenn were great in making sure our stay was superior. The full kitchen, full size washer/dryer, great view on the balcony, beautiful pool, excellent grounds (we ate bananas off the tree), making sure our reservations for activities were in order, etc. We will be back when the wife graduates with a Masters degree (this trip was for her Bachelors). The rain forest is a walk away and we enjoyed much of what the island had to offer (we read Ray and Gwenn's reviews on activities on the island). Don't go to a resort...this is the place.
Our Little Home
When I found Coqui's web site I knew we had to stay there when we came to PR.I was right. From the beginning we all felt at ease. We had made our plans in advance but turned to Gwen for advice. You can spend $$ for a tour guide, here Ii comes free with your stay. Great location. Spent many evenings on the veranda unwinding. Only 1 regret even though we
had 3 free nights in a 2 bedroom villa oceanfront at the El Con. we all agreed that we would have preferred to stay our entire time at Our Little Home.

Something for everyone
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Coquis Hideaway. Hosts Ray and Gwenn could not be more accommodating--there when you need them but otherwise not making their presence known. The pool area was the favorite of the teens, and the grandparents loved the wonderful views and beautifully landscaped grounds. The house is fully stocked, clean, and comfortable. Driving up the mountain road (and in Puerto Rico in general) takes a little getting used to but really isn't too bad.
Two tips for your stay: 1) Pick up food from El Verde, and 2) Ask Ray to take you to the waterfall...you won't be disappointed by either!
Coqui's Hideaway is a great place!
At Coqui's Hideaway, the house and surroundings are outstanding. Gwenn and Ray are wonderful hosts. We have rented through VRBO on numerous occasions and have always been satisfied, but our experience at Coqui's Hideaway was among the very best. We have already recommended it to other travelers.
South Jersey , New Jersey
As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by Ray and Gwenn, two very friendly people.
The home we rented was spacious and well equipped with everything we needed during our stay. I can't tell you how happy I was to see a blow-dryer in the bathroom vanity, since of course I forgot to bring mine. The home is brightly decorated and cheery at first sight. I of course love the coqui decor to go along with the name of the villa.
The location is an adventurous one as only windy roads will get you to your destination. It is a treat to drive these roads but just be very careful at night.
We felt safe in this home. We really liked the gated yard b/c of the children especially. The entrance off the main road itself was a bit rough but nothing too cumbersome.
We really liked that Ruta 3 was easily accessible from the home and that this led to many wonderful and enjoyable day trips like El Yunque Rainforest, Luquillo Beach, Roberto Clemente Coliseum and many others.
You would be very happy with all that Coqui's Hideaway has to offer. We definitely were.
Family Vacation with Young Children
We stayed here for 5 nights with 2 children (ages 2 and 6). The location, house, everything was wonderful! Our 6 year old has several allergies (pollen, peanuts, dust mites) but he was perfectly fine with no symptoms whatsoever the entire stay. The house was very, very clean, there were several games (board games, cards, dominoes) for the kids to play with while we made supper. There were over 100 videos of recent family movies to watch (for free), so we had movie nights every night. The swimming pool was spotless and had an incredible view of the rain forest and the sea and San Juan in the backgound. We were welcomed with a basket of fruit and pina colada ingredients when we arrived. Very cool! Needless to say, we made pina coladas every night we were there. As far as the property goes, Ray and Gwen have thought of everything down to the tiniest detail. There were beach toys, boogie boards, etc. for the beach. Toys for the pool..everything. Location was also perfect. It is 20 minutes to get to Luquillo Beach which is absolutely beautiful and good for small kids because of the palm trees----lots of shade. Also, the Yunque Rain Forest is only about 20 minutes away. San Juan is about 30 minutes. There are lots of local places to buy food and several tourist shops in the area and grocery stores. We are already saving for our next trip and we will definitely stay here again. Oh! Beautiful gardens on the property too with little lizards all around and you can listen to the coqui frogs at night. I can't recommend this place enough!
Baris & Buket
A fantastic place to stay!
We spent about 4 days in Coquis Hideaway mid
October 2009. This is hands down the best-kept
vacation villa we've ever been to (and we've been
to many places all around the world!) The gardens,
the pool, the rooms and all the common areas are
beautiful and well-maintained. Ray & Gwenn are
always available when you need them.
The villa is very conveniently located. Loquillo
beach is only 15-20 away. El Yunque park less than
15, Fajardo and Old San Juan 30-40 minutes...The
best part is when you are on one of those short
long weekend trips, you can skip all of that and
just enjoy the pool and gardens in your limited
time. Oh, and important to mention: The place is
children-friendly; our little daughter enjoyed the
place very much.
There is not one single thing that we thought could
have been done better. We are definitely going back
there at the first opportunity!
San Antonio, Texas
The service was great from the minute we walked into the property. The house was everything I expected based on the pictures we saw on the website and much more. Super clean, beautiful decorated, kitchen loaded with everything you can possibly need, bedrooms beds great to sleep on, pillows, blankets, ac work great, lots of room to place your stuff. Ray and Gwenn thought of every little detail. The view from the veranda was fantastic, the pool view is breath taking. The property grounds are well kept with lots of fruit trees all around the property. We had some fresh papaya, grapefruit, bananas, guava, and other tropical fruits from the property. The locations is perfect , close to the beach, the Rain Forest, Old San Juan and of course the airport. The drive to the property is a little way from the main road but well worth it. We can?t wait to go back and stay at El coqui hideaway next year. Please make sure you stop at El Verde restaurant and pick of some chicken it is out of this world. Many thanks to Ray and Gwen for their Hospitality and the great info they provided. Everything you see and read on the coqui website is right on the money. Everything is real and you will not be disappointed.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Coquis Hideaway. We are a family of 5: 2 adults & 3 teen-agers. They house was great and had room for everyone. The kitchen was well supplied and there was beach gear available for our use. One of our sons lived in the swimming pool when we were at the house. Ray & Gwenn were very helpful with ideas about what to see and do. Not only was the house great; the property was also. Picking grapefruit off the trees for breakfast was a bonus. We would definitely would stay here again.
The best hideaway in Puerto Rico
If you're looking for an amazing peaceful place, look no further! The host of Coquis Hideaway have created the perfect getaway located at the edge of the rain forest. You'll find every amenity you could possibly need and its clean and done with a fine eye for comfort and style. You're surrounded by the best views of the forest and one of my favorites is falling asleep to the sounds of the coqui frogs and birds singing. The private pool is perfect for a cool down, a restful day or an evening under the stars. Oh of course comfy beds, soft towels, beach stuff, a full kitchen, special treats, and excellent details of all the islands activities with discount tickets! Book it - you will have the vacation you've been dreaming of.
more than we expected!
Beautiful property...breathtaking views, variety of exotic flowers were gorgeous. The house had everything you can imagine and more. Very clean and comfortable. Great location..foothills of El Yunque...WOW! Wish we could've stayed longer. Great place to hang with family and relax enjoying the pool and grill and hammock and close to Luquillo Beach, Fajardo, San Juan.
Great hosts, beautiful property
Coqui's Hideaway is a beautifully maintained property
- very comfortable and well-equipped with everything
you need. The grounds, several acres, are
immaculately kept - Ray gave us a fascinating tour,
identifying different tropical fruits and pointing
out interesting facts. Ray and Gwen are wonderful
hosts - we were given a warm welcome, provided with
much knowledge and information about the region and
our 9-year old's enthusiasm for dogs was rewarded
with inclusion in the daily frisbee games. We
recommend this as a great base for the rainforest,
Luquillo beach area and Old San Juan.
Lake Mary, FL
Great view, comfortable place
Served our needs perfectly. Nice clean house with all the amenities we needed, beautiful setting, convenient to Luquillo/Fajardo/El Yunque. Ray and Gwen were very helpful. Thanks.

Best place to stay!
As we entered into the home, we were greeted by a specially arranged bouquet of local blooms. Everywhere we turned there were thoughtful amenities placed for our enjoyment and convenience. We found the balcony overlooking the vista to be relaxing after a long day. The new pool was refreshing and the view was worth the trip alone. Our daughter enjoyed all the pool toys. Ray and Gwen (and dogs) were good hosts and answered all our questions. Due to an unexpected injury before our vacation, I was on crutches and used a wheelchair, which was well accommodated by the facility, much to our relief. We cooked most of our meals in the well equipped kitchen - even using the large grill. The basket of Puerto Rican wares was fascinating and enjoyable. Strolling along the grounds of the property was refreshing and educational. I have lots of pictures of flowers! The drive to the hideaway was scenic and the surroundings were classic Caribbean. Tip: Go check out Flamenco Beach on Culebra Island! We can't wait to go back and visit again!
"Our Ritz Carlton"
The pictures do this "Hideaway" no justice. I in no way felt uncomfortable making these reservations online..My questions were answered quickly and the information offered to us both before and when we arrived came in very handy..Our children fell in love with each other again..The fresh baked banana bread and welcome basket were greatly received..Pina Coladas every evening..clean laundry..no mosquitoes..yippee!!Just absolutely a PARADISE...SEE YOU IN 2010!!!!
Sans Sousi vacation!!
We just came back from our unforgetable island vacation. We absolutely adored this place. Ray and Gwen, the ownwers, are super helpful and always kept us informed about everything. They keep very detailed and updated informational guides that helped us organized our excursions around the island. They also made us feel very welcome. When we walked into the house, there was a Greeting Basket with all kinds of Puerto Rican goodies and fresh tropical fruits right from their property trees. We left feeling relaxed and wanting to come back again and again. I highly recommend this beautiful ground level, immaculate kept site: a fully stocked kitchen, 1 bathroom, 2 bedrooms, in-home laundry. Its so convenient! The location is excellent to tour the entire island. It's just minutes away from El Yunque Rainforest and the beautiful Luquillo Beach. Our first day there, we went beach hopping. To my surprise, they had everything we needed: Beach towels, beach chairs, beach bag, snorkeling gear. They thought about everything! We highly recommend this place.
Bucks County, Pa
A very comfortable and relaxing place- "all the comforts"available. Gorgeous view from the back porch- looked like Hawaii- we had breakfast there every morning- well equipped kitchen- washer and dryer was very convenient, less to pack and lug around- wireless internet with our laptop and all the sightseeing info on Ray & Gwenn's website plus the 10% discount on lots of daytrips saved us both time and money.
My husband gives it a five and had no problem with the winding road getting up the mountain. The only problem I had was that I had to take Dramamine before going up or down from the house (car sick) Also- watch out for the drivers coming around the corner in the middle of the street. The house and owners were GREAT!
Howard Beach, NY
THE BEST STAY EVER!!
What can I say, but simply AMAZING!! Ray and Gwenn (the hosts of the Coqui's Hideaway)were great. They were friendly, full of information (check out their website puertoricodaytrips.com), and fully stocked their home. There wasn't anything they didn't think about. The view from the pool area is breathtaking and walking around their 9 acres of land was a great experience.
If you want to stay away from hotels, this is the place to go. Highly recommend this place! Close to everything as well.

Coqui's Hideaway has got it all!
Staying in Coqui's Hideaway was a great pleasure for us and our four children (age 2-10). Our communication to get a reservation was very good, friendly and helpful and so was the rest of our contact with the owners. They live right next to the rental home but did not interfere in our 'private sphere' at all when we did not ask to. When we had some questions they were very helpful (they know very much about Puerto Rico and the things to do there, see their website www.puertoricodaytrips.com and much of the information is in a big binder in the house). The house was very clean and complete, including toys and games for the kids and lots of movies. We lacked nothing. The environment of the house is very quiet and beautiful, with a very nice view from the porch or the pool deck. After a day of hiking in the rain forest, visiting Old San Juan or shopping in the outlet mall, the kids enjoyed playing in the pool while we were BBQ-ing at the pool deck and enjoying the sun going down. The garden is a little paradise, with many fruits growing, ready to pick and eat. We highly recommend this place to everyone who likes to go on vaction in Puerto Rico and wants to be near the city (San Juan), the rainforest (El Yungue) and/or the beach (Luquillo/Fajardo). Coqui's hideaway has got it all!
Perfect in Every Way
Coquis Hideaway was perfect in every way. Set in the foothills of the El Yunque Rain Forest this villa was nothing short of beautiful.
We rented the 3 bedroom, 2 bath version of the villa (you can also rent it as 2 br and 1 bath) which gave us 1100 square feet of living space. So, we were able to spread out and all (my husband, myself and our 2 boys)have our own personal space which was quite nice.
The property was immaculately cared for and our hosts, Ray and Gwenn, were the best. Any question that we asked or request that we made was greeted with perfect attention.
For example, Ray recommended the little traveled Juan Diego trail in the El Yunque rain forest. We followed his instructions and hiked to a beautiful waterfall and pool that we had completely to ourselves. Our boys (ages 7 and 10) had the most wonderful time exploring every bit of this hidden gem.
The grounds of Coquis Hideaway were beautiful. The pool is strategically set where the trees part to expose a beautiful view of both the mountains and the ocean. We ate dinner on the deck by the pool on our first night and it was perfect.
Honestly, if you are looking to get off of the beaten path and away from the business of the big, corporate hotels then you must visit Coquis Hideaway. We recommend it to everyone!
Exactly as advertised
It was great to stay in a place that fit the descriptions found on the website. I
went down with four friends for a wedding and the location was excellent, five
miles down the road from where the wedding was held. The place was clean,
had everything we needed and a lot of time was spent lounging by the pool. I
would recommend this house to anyone who wants a home away from home
The best part of our trip!!
Coqui's Hideaway was a vacation within a vacation! Gwenn & Ray have thought of everything to make their guesthouse a real home. Our family was instantly 'at home'there. We found it hard to drag ourselves away from the incredible pool area, and looked forward to returning to it after a day out. And follow their advice--- Ray & Gwenn have spent alot of time learning about the ins & outs of the area. The best part-- fresh bananas and grapefruit for breakfast & limes for our drinks!

Amazing Vacation Rental
To sum it up, our short stay at Coqui's was great. Ray and Gwenn (the owners) are delightfully friendly, and were more than willing to give us travel tips, directions, etc to make the most of our stay.
We had the two bedroom for two people and it was very comfortable. It felt like a home away from home. There is a washer/dryer which we were not used to (coming home with clean clothes for a change is pretty nice). They have an extensive DVD collection. Lots of travel info. Fully stocked kitchen (pots, pans, blender for pina coladas and more). All appliances are very nice and new. Air conditioning and fans in all rooms. Beach towels and umbrella available to use.
If you go outside, you are greeted by tropical plants, trees and orchids spanning the many acres of their property. It was a pleasure to walk around and enjoy the views. The pool is private and very relaxing.
The location in Rio Grande is close to ideal. You are out of the busy San Juan area (30-40 min from the airport), but close enough to beaches (Luquillo and others), the rainforest (it's harder to get closer to El Yunque), and Fajardo (which has a lot of day trips - side note: make sure to do the biobay tour in Vieques, you won't regret it).
Overall we had a great time and are already looking forward to coming back sometime in the future.
This was the best vacation stay ever! Ray and Gwen are the best host. Their home is cozy, warm, inviting, and comes equipped with all the amenities! The view is absolutely spectacular. If your are looking for a real getaway, this is the place for you. If you want a real Puerto Rican experience fully equipped with nature and and all it's beauty, this is the place for you.
Coqui's Hideaway is the Way To Go!
We went to Puerto Rico for our Honeymoon and decided to find a privately owned place to stay as opposed to a hotel/resort. We had just rented a condo in New York in December and loved it. Well, this is the way to travel, and we may never use hotels again.
Arriving to the house we were greeted by Ray, who welcomed us and showed us around the house, which was very neat and clean. There was also a beautiful welcome basket provided by Ray and Gwenn full of bananas and other fruits grown right on the proberty, as well as home made banana bread, local snacks, and some Rum. As soon as Ray left us we immediately dug into the basket. It was great.
The property is beautiful, and private. I wish we had more time to spend just hanging out by the pool, which is set in a beautifully secluded spot on the property, but we kept ourselves too busy. A family or group could spend an entire day just hanging out and barbequeing by the pool.
Ray and Gwenn have also spent a lot of time putting together information binders that give their reviews and recommendations on things to do and places to go including resaturants, beaches, hikes, diving and snorkling spots. These binders are in the house for you to browse. If you have any questions or need more ideas, then Ray and Gwenn are usually right next door and more than willing to help.
There were also some left over things in the fridge from previous guests like condiments, beer, eggs, etc., so before buying a bunch of stuff, go to the house first to see what's there.
In closing, we loved Coqui's Hideaway, and will recommend it to anyone going to PR. We also recommend staying in private homes/condos.
Ross & Kristin
The Gonzalez/Edwards family
Ray and Gwenn have a beautiful property nestled in paradise. The views from the balcony and the pool area were breathtaking. Their hospitality was warm and accomodating. They went out of their way to assist us when our arrival was pushed back due to a snow storm. Our concern was primarily location because it was far from our family who live on the other side of the island. We hope to return someday and explore El Yunque which we were unable to do this time around. We recommend the Coqui Hideaway for anyone who wants a beautiful retreat away from the city.
Although a bit removed from the beach, we found Coqui's Hideaway to be just the ticket for our vacation. Quiet, peaceful grounds and beautiful views greeted us upon our arrival. And, although it rained often, this added to the charm of the place. The acreage, tended by Ray & Gwenn, is both beautiful and bountiful. Many of the plants were in bloom and, during our stay, bananas, grapefruit and other, much more exotic fruits were available for collection from the trees to eat and enjoy.
The house itself is an extension of the main residence, almost a duplex. Ray & Gwenn live in one half and the vacation house is in the other half. The house is fully equiped for a wonderful vacation. Upon arrival, the beds were already dressed with fresh linens, the kitchen stocked with all the pots and pans needed to make our own meals, and the refrigerator populated with beer and condiments left from previous customers. Ray & Gwenn even provide a basket of fresh fruit, some homemade banana bread, and the makings of Pina Coladas just to make sure we got into vacation mode as quickly as possible.
The house can be rented in a two or three bedroom configuration; when in three bedroom mode, there are two bathrooms. In addition, there is a full size washer and dryer, which were mighty welcome after spending a day at the beach. The pool is a short stroll from the house and includes an outside table, gas BBQ, sink and frig. Although small, it felt great on the days when it was hot (and not raining) and there are several chaise lounges for sunning.
Ray & Gwenn made us feel right at home. Although not intrusive, they were always available to answer any questions, give a tour of the property, and show us the many varities of plants growing on their acreage.
I would recommend this place without reservation. If you are looking for a vacation home away from the big hotel scene, look no further. You will be happy here and well rested after your vacation.

Minnesota and New Mexico
We loved Coqui's Hideaway for the incredible views and great hospitality. The home was very clean, and a sweet welcome basket awaited us after a long day of traveling. Ray and Gwen were very helpful and warm hosts. The lodging was great for our 'ladies' get-away' and we've already recommended it to friends considering a trip to Puerto Rico.
Awesome & Relaxing
Enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, the beautiful gardens, the delicious fruit, and the great hosts.
Long Island, NY
My husband and I spent a wonderful three nights here. The grounds are lovely and peaceful and the owners are charming and helpful, they even took us on a hike. I'm so glad we found this hideaway!
Perfect place to stay in Puerto Rico!
Coqui's Hideaway was a fabulous place to stay! The house was decorated so cute and we enjoyed all the extra "homey" touches. The best part of staying at CH was being able to walk around the grounds and sample all the fruit right from the trees. We felt that we got a "behind the scenes" look at Puerto Rico. Ray and Gwen are the perfect hosts - so much knowledge about things to do and places to go. We enjoyed getting to know them.
Brooklyn, New York
Great base for rain forest exploration
Comfortable, modern house and quiet, lush grounds. Convenient location, close to rain forest park, restaurants, and shopping. We were 6 people, and had plenty of room (and 2 bathrooms) for all of us. Hosts are helpful and friendly.
Great place and great hosts!
My husband and 8 month old baby and I stayed with Gwenn and Ray in Oct 2008 and they made the stay wonderful! We felt like we were at home and we had the pool to ourselves! I would highly recommend this place to friends and family. If you stay here, make sure to check out their garden - it is so beautiful and it is full of fruit trees. You may be able to try some of the fruit depending on the season. It was so yummy!
New York city
really liked it
We really liked this place. We took a three day weekend to escape the cold NYC winter, and wanted to be able to go a lot of places without spending too much time getting there. It was close to San Juan, the beach, the rain forest. We could do a lot of stuff in just a few days because we were so close to it all.
But it was even nicer just to hang out on the property, look at the views, eat bananas off the tree, take a nap by the pool. It felt far away without being inconvenient.
The apartment itself was spotlessly clean and pretty spacious. Had everything you need and stuff you didn't know you needed.
You can't go wrong with this place.
Peace and Beauty in the Rainforest
I couldn't believe how amazing this place is!If you are looking for relaxation with gorgeous scenery, you will not be disappointed! From the welcome basket which included your starter pina colada to watching the sunrise over the rainforest you will never experience anything more fantastic! If you need directions or recommendations Ray and Gwen always have excellent suggestions. You will not be disappointed with any part of your stay are Coquis Hideaway I promise!
Kennett Square, PA
My boyfriend and I chose Coqui's Hideaway for a vacation away from the crowded tourist strip and to experience the real Puerto Rico. We weren't disappointed, as Coqui's was secluded with a beautiful view of San Juan and Coco Beach, but yet convenient to all the excursions we had planned. We liked the central location and, with a rental car, we were able to explore many parts of the island.
We enjoyed their tropical plants and fruit around the property, including bananas, grapefruit and caimitos (which were delicious). They also thought of everything at the pool area with a refrigerator, cabana and hammock.
The unit was clean and it was stocked with all the necessary kitchen tools and brochures / reviews of things to do in PR. The hosts were helpful with questions on our side trips, and we even received a discount on our Vieques Bio bay trip through them.
We would return to Coquis and recommend to our friends and family.
Amazing Hosts, Pictures Don't Do it Justice
I can't say enough about Coquis Hideaway. Their website does not do it justice. When you are there, all you can see is an amazing view, fruit trees, beautiful grounds, and your own pool and grill. We wanted secluded, and when you are there the rest of the world seems so far away.
Ray and Gwen are the perfect hosts. They stay out of your way if you want privacy, but do all the little things. On a rainy day, we woke up to find umbrellas and ponchos waiting outside our door. they have beach stuff and snorkel gear there for you. A great DVD collection for a night in, free internet, and satellite tv. They have great advice when you want it, and have really useful discounts they can set up with attractions around the island.
For us, they went WAY above and beyond. I went to PR on a surprise trip to propose to my girlfriend. They helped me surprise her with a champagne picnic in the rain forest for the proposal (a very elaborate plan I won't get into here) then had a candle light dinner waiting at our private pool back at their place. Not that this is standard when you stay with them, but they really go above and beyond!
When we were there we were already talking about bringing a group back (we were only the two of us and it's a nice large space), what more can one say? And though they say they don't provide breakfast, the fresh fruit they gave us, grown right there, was AMAZING, as well as the fresh baked bread.
It's a fun little drive to get up there, but it's really quite convenient to everything...we did a day in luquillo, one in fajardo, one in old san juan, El Yunque of course, all easily doable from coquis hideaway in a day.
In sum, I cannot imagine you would not be thrilled with staying there, and they made our engagement a story we will retell for the rest our lives.
Thanks Ray and Gwen!

Home away from home-Relax
coqui's hideaway is a wonderful place to stay. Ray and Gwenn are wonderful people. They made us feel so welcome. The welcoming basket, the fresh fruits everyday, games and movies were great. It has a very relaxing atmosphere. They have a big beautiful property if you like to take morning walks. The pool is wonderful. Coqui's hideaway is a home away from home. Ray & Gwenn though of everything to make Coqui's hideaway as comfortable as possible. My kids, my sisters-in-law, my husband and I didn't want to leave. If we have a chance to go back, My first choice is COQUI'S HIDEAWAY.
Thanks Ray & Gwenn for sharing your beautiful home.
Wonderful Stay! Highly Recommended
While planning our trip to Puerto Rico, we looked at every possible option as to where to stay. After giving it a lot of thought and consideration, we decided to stay at Coqui's Hideway in Rio Grande. Our reasons were that we felt a private villa offered us a better chance to relax, spreadout, and enjoy ourselves. We liked the idea of having a kitchen where we could get up and relax and make our own breakfast rather than feeling like we needed to be ready and out the door early enough so that we could get breakfast.
Our decision turned out to be a great one. Coqui's Hideaway was clean and comfortable. The owner's have really thought of every detail to make their guests feel at home. It was so nice to have beach chairs and beach towels (and all sorts of other beach going items) there and waiting for us to use. All sorts of things were there to make our stay easy and stress free.
We also enjoyed that the villa was centrally located to all of the things we wanted to do while we were there. We did the Old San Juan tours, went to Fajardo and took a power catamaran to Vieques and swam in the Bio-bay, went to Seven Seas Beach and Luquillo Beach, hiked in the rainforest, etc.
I'm so very thankful that we didn't stay in the city. We truly felt much more relaxed and free to what we wanted when we wanted.
I highly recommend this property.

Great Family Retreat
My family and I stayed at Coqui?s Hideaway over thanksgiving day weekend 2008, and found it to be fantastic! The house is very clean and well appointed, and the grounds are a lush tropical garden. The pool is small but perfect for the kids, and the hammock in the shade, was perfect for me. We used all three bedrooms on our visit and had plenty of room for all 6 of us. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the utensils we could need to cook a thanksgiving dinner, and we ate out on the private porch every night. The owners were very nice and checked in to be sure we were satisfied, and showed us where we were able to pick our own tropical fruits, some I had never heard of before but I really liked.
It?s a bit of a drive off the main road up the mountainside, but when we got there the view was worth the trip. Surrounded by the rainforest, but you can see the ocean, and at night we watched the cruise ships arrive and depart San Juan. Also, It did rain each day, but only for 5 or 10 minutes. Be sure to bring lots of sunscreen, buy it when you land!!!

wonderful, immaculate place to stay!
We had such a wonderful stay! Our hosts were very knowledgeable
about Puerto Rico and had a wonderful welcome package awaiting us
including movies, internet access, and a gift basket that included
fresh fruit, homemade bread and pina coladas. The house was
immaculate and the grounds were beautiful. Included in our stay was
everything you need to have a wonderful day at the beach. Remember
the sun screen!
We would not hesitate to stay there again; highly recommended
Beautiful Comfortable Vacation Home
This home was the best place our family has ever stayed at. Included were all the luxeries of home, Ray and Gwen thought of everything, and then some. Great location too. We have already told everyone back home about this place and we plan to come back next year. Bermudez Family
Great place to stay
We stayed at Coqui's Hideaway for our honeymoon based on a word-of-mouth recommendation of a co-worker. We could not have been happier. The property was great for numerous reasons. We were able to get everywhere we wanted/needed to go with relative ease. The property was clean, well kept and spacious. Last but not least, the hosts are very nice. They made themselves accesible for questions, help or advice but were not intrusive. I have and will continue to highly recommend Coqui's Hideaway.
San Diego, CA
Fantastic Secluded Jungle Getaway
The outside property is immense, secluded, and beautiful. Inside the gated grounds the only other people you might encounter are the friendly hosts who keep the place in such immaculate and beautiful condition. Inside, it's clean, spacious, and packed with all the amenities you would hope for and more. The location is also very convenient for sightseeing around PR, provided that you have a rental car. The quality of experience to be had staying here is unparalleled. I would most definitely come back to Coqui's Hideaway if possible next time.
St.Martins, New Brunswick
Center of the Universe South
At the base of the road that leads to Coqui's Hideaway is an open air cantina called Verde Bar Restaurant. It is the home of the best roasted chicken you'll ever savor, world famous beans and rice, and the tastiest Pina Colada, con rum. At the end of each day of wonderful forays about the island, we stopped here and picked up our dinner and a perfect beverage to sit on the veranda at Rays, and watch the twinkling lights of San Juan, listen to the intoxicating rythms of the Coqui frog blended with the latino music that seems to eminate from all the hidden valleys. And then the full moon comes over the hills. This was our second visit, we were married on the beach on the first. My wife and I plan to make this an annual anniversary. And our hosts seems to emulate the kindness and amiability found in all the people we have met in Puerto Rico. Muy Bueno!
Lush rainforest retreat
This is an off-the-beaten-path gem. It's tucked away on a hillside with a huge lovely garden with banana trees, oranges and grapefruit along with beautiful tropical flowers. The pictures don't do it justice. It is still part of the rainforest area, so there is plenty of moisture - we loved listening to the rain fall and the coqui chirps at night. It was great for the kids - they loved the pool and chasing the tiny lizards outside.
Even though it was removed, the house was close to where we wanted to go - I think the longest drive we had was 20 minutes. I would love to go back.
Great Family New Year's Celebration
We enjoyed all the comforts of home - including available beach chairs, coolers, great DVDs while exploring PR. Loved the tropical fruit and flowers and had a great New Year's Eve with our family by the pool, grilling dinner and watching fireworks.
Hosts were helpful with touring ideas...We'd love to come again.
the perfect family get-together
My husband and I rented this lovely home to emjoy a week with our two grown children and their spouses. This rental allowed us to share our time with each other unlike hotel rentals would have alloted. The grounds are lovely, with a beautiful and private pool, gorgeous views, convenient location and away from the bustle of San Juan, though close enough to spend an afternoon in old town. We found a basket of local food, fruit and drink mixtures upon arrival which was delightful. Easy access to hiking El Yunque and kayaking the bioluninescent bays, we had breakfast every morning together, packed lunches, ate out, and enjoyed cocktail hour poolside. Truely, my only feedback for the cottage would be to supply nicer pillows, being such a lovely place to sleep, upgrading the pillows would go a long way. Oh, and there is the most beautiful veranda around the front side of the rental, we used it constantly. Our family would stay at the cottage again. The hosts were available when you needed them, helpful, considerate, and politely absent when we wanted our private time.
nice get away
We spent 3 nights at Coquis Hideaway and found it very comfortable. The owners are extremely helpful; the house is very clean. We had a rented car and found that this location was ideal with respect to the rain forest and the beaches. The house is located way up on the mountainside and this made for a wonderful view from the balcony off one of the bedrooms. The kitchen was very well equipped and the living room had everything necessary to entertain the family in the evening. There is a small swimming pool which was ideal for our son to relax in at the end of each day.

Beautiful home, lovely gardens
I rented this home for my daughter's family and me over winter break. We all love warm climates and the beach. Although it is a bit of a drive to the ocean, it was well worth it. The grounds are akin to a botanical garden. My favorite place was the veranda, with an unparalleled view of the rain forest and glimpse of the ocean. My grandson found a "magic tree" -- some sort of tangerine tree with small orange globes of fruit -- that was his special place. The Bentz's were gracious about letting us pick some of the fruit. They have a lovely pool where you can also have a barbecue. Our hosts were unobtrusive yet very helpful whenever asked. They gave us good tips and had personally scouted out the places they recommended.
