    Relaxing and Beautiful Stay

Left on 05/19/2013 for a stay in April 2013

We stayed in appartamento Gianna in Riomaggiore in april, 2013. The apartment is located at the top of the hill above the train station. We travel without a car so walked up from the station. Steep but not bad if you travel light. The apartment is lovely, clean and comfortable with a great terrace with a beautiful view. There is a path around to the other side of town and also a path above leading up to the castle at the top. We explored the little alleyways and paths around town quite a bit and loved having wine, antipasti and dinner on the terrace. You can hear the rumble of the trains from the station and we were not bothered by the sound but rather enjoyed it. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very nice and clean. The kitchen was well-appointed and had everything we needed for cooking. We had the best limone gelato of our time in Italy in Riomaggiore. Our trip to Corniglia was nice and it is well worth the climb up the steps to see the views. The owner was very nice and helpful, and there was no problem finding the apartment. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit.

Wine and antipasti on the terrace The path to the other side of the village (there is also a tunnel from the train station) A view of Riomaggiore from the point

    Our Italian Home!

Left on 10/18/2012 for a stay in September 2012

This apartment was pitch-perfect! The view and the location were "ours" - we felt like we had a share in the coastline and the garden. The balcony was our favourite spot - the sunlight flickering through the rooms was romantic. The kitchen was fully equipped - the linens and all were fastidiously clean. Our hostess was lovely, businesslike yet unobtrusive. Appartamento Gianna is our favourite place to stay - in the entire world!!

    Beautiful view

Left on 10/11/2012 for a stay in September 2012

The apartment is well located for the train station (although directions to the place could be more better) and has great views. The bedroom is lovely and spacious and the kitchen has all you need for cooking meals. The trains and noise from the station can be quiet loud at first but you get used to it.

    High, with a View

Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in September 2012

This apartment is a hike directly up from the station, on a 35 degree graded street for longer than one wishes (if lugging suitcases), and many steps up to the apartment thereafter, too...however it is definitely worth it. The rooms are large, culminating in a cute little balcony with table and chairs and a lovely view of Riomaggiore and the sea! Be aware, though, that this is on the 'other' side of the central part of Riomaggiore, where one finds all the shops, even though close to the train station. It is quiet, clean, and comfortable. I cooked a lot, and found the kitchen reasonably equipped. No Wi-Fi is advertised, yet I was able to find a connection...how long that will be available, being the question. Riomaggiore is a great place to stay, as many more trains passing through stop here, but skip at least 2 of the inner towns of the 5, stopping at Monterosso, finally.

    Views out to sea

Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Excellent location high above the station with views out to sea from bedroom and balcony. Well equipped kitchen and very comfortable throughout. The owner gave a warm welcome and we had everything we needed to make this a very enjoyable stay.

A shame the lift from the station wasn't working but easy enough to get up to the apartment once we worked out the shortest route.

    Beautiful view!

Left on 10/02/2012 for a stay in September 2012

A nice apartment near the train station with an amazing view of the coast. The trains (and the tourists at the station!) are a little noisy at first but you do get used to them. The directions to the property could be improved (as it appears the lift has been out of order for some time) and we did not find it easy to locate the apartment.

Clean, spacious appartment with fantastic balcony.

Left on 07/11/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We spent 5 nights in the beginning of July in Gianna appartment. Appartment is clean, big, fully equipped. Balcony with sea view was the best! We loved it! We spend hours there sitting with glass of wine, formaggio and olives. I will always remember romatic breakfasts with unforgettable view on the shining sea. Owner, signora Gianna, was very friendly even she did not speak a word in English. Location is perfect, 5 minutes to Riomaggiore center or train station. 10 minutes from nice beach. The only disturbing thing were trains which ran frequently even at night.

    Amazing view, wonderful experience

Left on 07/03/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Appartment very clean and quite large - everything needed for simple lifestyle that fit the location well. Gianna is very welcoming but speaks no English. Appartment has many steps so luggage needs to be carried up on arrival. Need to be quite fit to stay here.
Once in however absolutely magical experience. One of the highlights of our trip was sitting on balcony overlooking water listening to live music filtering up from restaurant below.
There was some noise from the station below but it never bothered us at all, even at night no problem.
Would highly reccomend this delightful unit.

    Beautiful apartment, mediocre customer service

Left on 05/06/2012 for a stay in April 2012

    • Beautiful apartment – much nicer than we expected after seeing the pictures online. Pretty clean, though some of the dishes looked a little dirty. Train noise is very noticeable (you always know when a train passes, it sounds a bit like distant thunder) but not too disturbing.
    • Owner does not speak any English, left very promptly at the beginning of our stay without giving any specific instructions regarding payment or where to leave keys.
    • Poor communication between coordinating agency (Arbaspaa) and apartment owner—owner did not know that we had shortened our stay by one night even though we'd confirmed the change with arbaspaa a week before.
    • Owner insisted on cash payment when she ran into us on the street during our walk to the train station, when we’d thought the lack of information and the fact that arbaspaa already had our card info meant that they would charge the credit card. Led to a very stressful checkout morning and our almost missing our train.
    • We called the arbaspaa office 5 times between 8am and 10pm the final morning of our stay during the confusion with the apartment owner, and were not able to speak with anyone (the phone sent us through to an answering machine earlier and a busy signal later).

Overall I would still recommend this apartment, but only if you're already aware of the need to be very careful about communication and payment!

The office of Arbaspaa is always open from 9 am till 6pm (even on Sunday). We got no telephone call.Probably this guest have used another number or the fax number. We have told the owner about the changing in the lenght of stay.
We always specify the method of payment required but probably these people did not pay attention on what is written in the document sent with the final confirmation.

    Great view from the balcony

Left on 08/05/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Great apartment. Good location (if you can handle a few steps) on the quiet side of town, view from the bedroom and the balcony was perfect, and the noise from the trains didn't bother us in the slightest. Check-in was manageable even though we couldn't speak eachothers' languages. Would definitely stay again.

Our favorite place we stayed in our two week vacation-beautiful!

Left on 07/07/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We loved everything about apartamento Gianna. The apartment was roomy, the view incredible, the town of Riomaggiore quaint. It was nice to have a kitchen to cook some of that marvelous produce we kept seeing throughout Europe. My only caveat would be that you need to be in shape as the town and apartment require quite a lot of walking up hills.

Although at the top of a steep climb (as the lift was not working), the room is worth it. Not only is it clean and spacious, it is quiet and there is a great view of the ocean. Totally relaxing!!!

    Outstanding Experience

Left on 06/01/2011 for a stay in May 2011

My wife and I spent a week in Riomaggiore at appartamento Gianna and had a wonderful time. Arrangements through arbaspaa were handled with a high level of professionalism, and the apartment fully met our expectations. Riomaggiore is my favorite among the villages of the Cinque Terre. It is charming but less busy than the better known and larger Vernazza. Appartamento Gianna is not luxurious but is very comfortable for two people. The sitting room consists of a couch in the kitchen which might be a turn off for some, but the terrace with a spectacular view of the Mediterranean more than compensates. Our landlady, Gianna, lives on-site and is a charming person. All-in-all appartamento Gianna was a excellent choice.

Well-located, very convenient clean and tidy apartment

Left on 05/31/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Excellent location near the station and town of Riomaggiore. The apartment was well-maintained and pleasantly furnished with a comfortable bed and good bathroom. The owner was pleasant and although she does not speak English we could communicate in French. The balcony is great, in full sun late in the day and a view of the sea. My criticism of the aprtment would be that there was a lack of some basic cooking equipment eg a large sharp knife, a kettle, a bread / cutting board. The sofa in the kitchen / living room was also very uncomfortable, but we didn't need it as we ate on the balcony! However, altogether the partment's advantages outweighed the disadvantages and we had a great 5 days there.

This place was great! Great view from the balcony and very spacious and clean. Long walk up the hill (the lift was being serviced and was not working), but I would stay here again. Note that the owner speaks zero english, so it was a bit challenging to communicate, but we got by. Very close to the train station.

    Ideal Location

Left on 10/05/2010 for a stay in September 2010

The apartment was clean with good cooking facilities and, importantly, a comfortable bed. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts. Ideally situated for exploring the town and the area by train, boat or foot. Be warned that there are over 70 steps leading from the road to the apartment, so this is not a place for the infirm. The view from the balcony is lovely; it also overlooks the railway station so there is train noise during the night.
