Silver Spring Family
Silver Spring, MarylandWonderful cabins, beautiful setting, excellent hosts
Left on 08/22/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My family (2 parents, 2 teenagers) stayed here for 3 nights, and we would definitely go back if we were in the area. There are currently 2 cabins; more are being built. (Once all the cabins are built, this would be a great place for a family reunion.) The cabins are beautifully constructed, with wonderful touches like a little window in the reading nook, and a metal screen under the flooring in the screened-in porch to keep the bugs out. The bathroom sits between the two bedrooms, which gives each bedroom some extra privacy. The decor is nice without being fussy. The cabins are fully stocked with nice bedding, kitchen supplies, and a TV monitor for watching Dvds. There's no TV programming; but amazingly, there is great wi-fi! The setting is beautiful, in the middle of the woods, with streams nearby. Even the teenagers noticed how beautiful the sky was in the morning, and how many stars we could see at night. Marty and Carol are wonderful hosts, making sure we had everything we needed. We really enjoyed seeing the workshop and hearing about their plans, and we also enjoyed a group bonfire they hosted one night. Their dogs are friendly too! Even if "getting away from it all" isn't your main intention, you should still consider these cabins if you need a place to stay in the Middlebury area. It's only a 10-minute drive from the Ripton Country Store (which you should be sure to visit), and you don't need 4-wheel-drive vehicle; we did the roads in a minivan with no problem. Although the tips for writing a review say we should tell what we "liked least", we really had no complaints!
