Great location, great cook/staff, house needs update

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in April 2012

The beach and pool setup at Sol Y Luna are great and the chef (Ismael) and his helpers (Carlos and Maria) were PHENOMENAL. We will absolutely return to the villa again if Ismael and Co. are still working at the house. In terms of negatives, the house needs an update, the floor plan isn\'t really ideal for families with small kids and the wifi at the house was problematic, (even after a technician was sent out to fix it) which was a major problem as several of us needed internet connectivity for work. - Ben P., California, USA

Sol Y Luna is paradise by the sea.

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in February 2012

Sol Y Luna is a place large enough for multi-generational families to stay and yet has enough room to wander about without feeling confined or cramped. It is on the ocean but set-back far enough to allow for family privacy. The beach is beautiful and the color of the water is incredible; warm and free of any rocks. Kids of all ages were able to boogie board, kayak, snorkel or simply read a book under the shade of the open umbrellas. If you like to walk the beach, it is endless. There is a treasure chest next to the pool full of toys for the little ones and building sandcastles is a must. The caretaker, Pedro, will surprise you with a fresh coconut from a nearby tree complete with a straw or offer you a freshly roasted chicken he cooked on the beach. So good. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all comfortable and large. The furniture in the house is basic but great for us as it was childproof. Great places to sit up on the roof and two levels of covered porches in the back facing the oc - Linda M., ,

Sol Y Luna is perfection in paradise!

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in November 2011

This Villa was so beautiful and tranquil. Everything about our stay was great for the most part. The maid staff and maintenance guy were very friendly and unobtrusive, however from the time we arrived I was displeased with the on-site manager, norberto. He did not smile, he rushed thru the tour without showing me the grill, jacuzzi, or internet instructions. When I said the grocery list was incomplete he did bring us more items free of delivery charge but I felt my gratuities went totally unrecognized because when he came to fix the internet, he had a bad attitude letting us all know it was inconvenient for him to be there. But don\'t worry, i still tipped him and we didn\'t allow it to affect our trip. Again, the rest of the staff and their dogs were GREAT! And I would almost certainly return for another vacation. - Trevor B., California, USA

      Fabulous! And it rained!!!!!

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in October 2011

Many have written about how the pictures don\'t do it justice and I tend to agree. Although accurate they do not tell the real story because that lies in the total experience\" of Sol Y Luna. And that is the service, the setting, the food, the mood, the variety of activity available and oh, the beach and water!!!! And the massages on the roof top level were out of this world!!!!!!\" - Paula R., Florida, USA

      Perfect Destination Wedding

Left on 04/15/2011 for a stay in March 2011

17 of our family and friends stayed at Villa Sol y Luna for a week from March 27 to april 2, 2011 for my son's wedding . It could not have been more perfect.
This is a place to relax and enjoy yourself. As we arrived, we were welcomed and greeted with wonderful margaritas and the best fresh tomato salsa and quacamole I have ever tasted. Ishmael and his staff Fernando and Maria cooked amazing meals for us - we asked for traditional Mexican cooking and the food was amazing. We had some people with dietary restrictions and they were accomodated beautifully. Staying at Villa Sol y Luna is like going to vist family at the cottage. We even learned how to make guacamole!

Norberto and Raphael worked with my son and his bride to create the wedding of their dreams and it was absolutely beautiful. Forget the all-inclusive resort - this is the place to have a wedding! We loved the privacy and we loved the staff's attention to detail. It seemed that nothing was too much effort. They did everything possible to make the wedding and the dinner party following as special and wonderful as it could be.

This place and the staff far exceeded all our expectations. This is a beach house and it is simply furnished because salt and sand are corrosive. The house was kept very clean by two wonderful ladies and grounds were very well maintained by Pedro the groundskeeper who seemed to work around the clock. We ran barefoot all week - no broken glass to worry about here!! The staff were present but not intrusive and they are very friendly.

A basic understanding of Spanish would have enhanced our experience. Norberto speaks English well, Ishmael is learning English and has a good understanding but the rest of the staff have limited English. My son speaks Spanish but he was away the day we needed to touch up his suit for the wedding. Asking for an iron and ironing board was an interesting exchange of charade moves and lots of laughter!!

The house is in a gated community and it is about 1/2 a mile to the highway. Renting a car is essential if you plan to visit local areas. It is a hot dusty walk from the highway if you use the bus or collectivo. As long as you stick to the main tourist areas, driving in Mexico is not as bad as I had read that it would be. Just stay out of Cancun, try not to drive after dark and buy the liability and collision isurance at the car rental agency. Our credit card and personal insurance coverage from Canada did not include Mexico. I checked this before I left home.

One caution for people with wheelchairs: The ramp into the villa is steep and not built to North american aDa standards. Access is to the ground level only. As far as I could tell, there is no lift to the second (main) level or the roof top patio. However, there are a lot of options for meals so someone with limited access would not feel excluded. Access to the beach is good. There are stairs over a wall that was installed after the last hurricane but there is an alternate access up a small ramp and through a gate.

Before this visit my husband and I were beach holiday people - a beach holiday was not high on our "bucket list". We were so impressed with Villa Sol y Luna that we are considering a return visit with our family in a year or two. This is a great place for a family vacation, we had a wonderful time here and we can't say enough good things about Villa Sol y Luna.

The house served all our needs - our 5 granddaughters shared Arena - and had a pyjama party every night! We had trouble getting enough towels for that room. The beach and water toys were a big hit. The pool was a bit cold(a heater there would be nice!) Ismael and his staff made wonderful meals, drinks, and accommodated us wherever we wanted to eat. Our special occasions - two birthdays and New Year\'s Eve - were truly special. On the last evening(after most of the wind had died down), Pedro lit a bonfire on the beach and we toasted marshmallows and sat around until late in the evening. The family loved the house and the surrounds and the proximity of the beach. They agreed the reunion was a big success!

Excellent, friendly and warm staff. The superb accommodation made our family vacation a memory to last forever. Sol y Luna was perfect even for such a large group. ( 20 guests) Everyone had their own space and it was suitable for all ages. The chef service was incredible, it really was one of the highlights - as no-one was on duty.... only on vacation. Special thanks to the nanny/house keeper who made life even easier and our boys loved them.

We loved the location, the staff and the food. The house as well was very nice, but could use some upgrading to furniture and grounds. The \"apartment\" should also definitely NOT be recommended to clients. It is above the staff quarters, very barren and quite run-down. This house should be marketed as a 7 not 10 bedroom for most satisfaction.

From start to finish, our vacation at the villa was perfect. Everyone could not have done a better job at meeting our needs. Norberto is the best. He helped us plan the vow renewal ceremony and went above and beyond what he had to do to make everything perfect. The staff were always there for us no matter what our need was and the chef, Ismael, he is wonderful. The food he prepared was delicious. I have never seen anyone so on top of his job as Pedro. He was always busy taking care of the grounds and making sure things were done perfectly. Honestly I would love to have taken everyone of them home with us. Mr. Philp, you have the best people working for you there at the villa. We had the time of our lives. The entire James family,Johns family, Sullivan family and the Clark family, would love to thank you all so very much!!
