HertfordshireA great place to relax
Left on 05/08/2013 for a stay in May 2013
The carriage house was well equipped and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. My husband had been traveling on business, so the homely feel was a welcome change from corporate hotels. We appreciated the extra space that a holiday rental provided, plus the flexibility to prepare simple meals when we wanted them. Access to the carriage house is via the side of the owners' house, but this was not an issue and we did not feel any lack of privacy. The location of the carriage house within the village was perfect.
Making the reservation from the UK was simple and the owner was very helpful.
We drove from Boston, so the parking space was very welcome. The season was not in full swing during our visit in early May, but it appears parking in the village during high season is at a premium. Rockport does not have a grocery store, so getting the essentials may be tricky without a car. -

We stayed Thanksgiving week 2012. The carriage house was well furnished, spotless and perfect for us. Meg, thanks for the Shaws card and the newspapers. Thought we would visit other New England locations but Rockport was so welcoming and relaxed that we took the train into Boston a couple of days and spent the rest of the time on the headlands, walking the old garden path, eating at the Red Skiff, cruising the shops and just walking around. Met the gardners and painter and your wonderful neighbors and their dogs. Caught up on our reading and enjoyed the quiet of the holiday. Discovered the wind sculptures of Jim Waddell and the pumpkin pancakes at Sweet Magnolias in Cloucester. You have a beautiful home and location and we feel fortunate to have found you and shared the beauty and peace of the Rockport community for a short while. We'll be back.

We had a marvelous time at the Carriage House. The location is ideal and very quiet; yet just a short walk to beaches and the attractions. Meg lets you use beach chairs, beach towels etc. Meg is very friendly and laid back and willing to help in any way that will make your stay perfect. I will definitely recommend the Carriage House to my friends.

Austerlitz, New YorkFantastic location from town and beaches - lovely accommodations
Left on 08/21/2012 for a stay in August 2011
This was the quintessential new england coastal town vacation in which you are in a picturesque little beach town and can walk everywhere on foot. After verbally recommending this to a colleague at work, I wanted others to know how much we enjoyed our stay at the Carriage House in august 2011. It was our first trip to Rockport, and with a toddler in tow, our hosts could not have been more hospitable - use of beach chairs, beach towels, cooler, all sorts of toys, and even a little wagon in which to wheel everything (including our toddler!) to/from the beach, which was so helpful. And during conversation each day, we were given so many restaurant & other area attraction recommendations that we didn't get to do it all even with a whole week there. The one bedroom apartment has a lovely living room with a view to the harbor, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen so we cooked in for some breakfasts. What we enjoyed most was proximity to a beach further back in the neighborhood as well as to the in-town Front Beach, and all the restaurants & shops in town. You walk out and down this little street and the harbor is right there, so strolls around the neighborhood are a must! After hearing from my colleague how nice her stay was with her family in tow this summer - and again how accommodating the hosts were, especially considering her stay was over the July 4th holiday - we can't wait to book a return stay again soon.

Cincinnati, OHWonderful experience!
Left on 07/30/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We found this rental on Ta, and cross-referenced with other online sources, and it was one of our best vacation decisions ever! The carriage house is spotlessly clean and private -- it is separate from the main house -- we neither saw nor heard the family until the morning we were checking out after 3 nights! It's also spacious, and well stocked with amenities, including kitchen and bath supplies, beach towels and chairs, and literature about local activities, restaurants, etc. There were also bicycles & helmets, and a backyard grill available to us. It's like a small apartment -- spacious bedroom (with plenty of closet space), a good size living room/eating area, large bathroom and moderate size kitchen. We bought some staple groceries, and were able to enjoy breakfast "in" each morning on our own schedule. The property is in a residential neighborhood just a short (<5 minutes) walk to town, where there are shops, restaurants, a beach and the Shalin Liu performance hall, and yet it's far enough off the beaten path that it's quiet and private. There is an off-street parking space for guests, as well as plenty of on-street parking. There is an aC unit in the bedroom, although it was cool enough that we did not need it. Meg was happy to make restaurant recommendations, and we enjoyed both places we tried at her suggestion. Booking was so easy that I was almost nervous that there had to be a catch -- I emailed Meg, and she replied with details. I mailed a $100 deposit, and it was all set when we got there. She's well organized, yet very laid back and easygoing about the whole process. This was a positive experience in every way and a great value!

This location is just lovely! I arrived by train and Mag couldn't have been more hospitable in welcoming me as I settled in for the weekend. From early morning walks, to afternoon kayaking; lazing at the beach with a good read to shopping and dining at Bearskin Neck with a friend ~ this was the perfect retreat for rest and renewal. The property is quintessential north shore and Meg is delightful. I can't wait for my next visit!

We enjoyed our trip to Rockport, our first vist to this area. Meg was very helpful and even picked us up from the train when we arrived to make sure we got to the house. It was very easy to get around in this area without a car and the family were happy for us to use bikes they provided. The accomodation is very clean and comfortable and provides everything required for a luxurious getaway.

Cape Cod, MassachusettsMy Dream House in Rockport
Left on 01/03/2011 for a stay in August 2010
I was pleasantly surprised and amazed to find, when I arrived at the Jarrett's picturesque property, that I would be staying at the house that I used to dream about being lucky enough to live in- long, long ago when I lived in Rockport for several happy years!
The carriage house is just gorgeous- even nicer and more spacious than the photos allow.
I was in the middle of a driving trip from Maine back to Cape Cod with two teenagers, and they were very happy there; they didn't want to leave!
The Jarretts are very nice and accommodating, and just about everything you may need can be found in the apartment, which is very nicely laid out.
Meg even set up an extra air bed for us that was quite comfortable and easy to use.
Rockport is quite a beautiful town, and the carriage house is right around the corner from central Rockport, Bearskin Neck and several beaches and walks.
In fact, you can get a peek of the harbor from the apartment windows.
Be sure to walk to the Headlands nearby-there is a spectacular view of the harbor. -

PAGreat place to stay in Rockport/Gloucester area
Left on 07/29/2010 for a stay in July 2010
I stayed in the Carriage House for three nights recently. The place is a great central location for visiting the sites. If you want to go to the beach or little shops in Rockport they both are only a few blocks away. The rooms are all good sized and the bed was comfortable. One of the nights was very warm without a/c, but there is nearly always a breeze coming in the windows to cool things down.
The owner, Meg, provided me with places to eat and visit in the Gloucester area and Rockport. There are lots of games in the different cupboards to help entertain if you get a rainy night. She also had beach chairs and a bike to use if I wanted while I stayed there. The carriage house is connected by walkway to the house, but you are on your own. The gardens and flowers around the house made for a beautiful view also. If you need any information, al you have to do is ask.
Would recommend this as a great place to stay. -

A quaint carriage house on a beautiful property in picturesque Rockport, ma. The owners (The Jarretts) could not have been any nicer or accomodating. The setting was quiet, relaxing, and private. A short walk to Bearskin Neck and the beach - this is the ideal place if you are looking to explore Rockport.
