Left on 04/22/2013 for a stay in April 2013
A very comfortable flat, full of books, full of light, excellent equipment, located in an area that has known better days but is very convenient, both from a practical point of view (we haven't seen during our stay any better supermarket than the one on the opposite side of the street) and from a tourist point of view (subway a couple of minutes away, trams and buses at the door, a 15 minute nice walk to the Coliseum). Very warm welcome, very valuable advice. The only flaw, relatively minor in regard to the advantages, is that if the phonic isolation of the windows is very good (no noise from the street) it's not as good inside the building and you may hear the neighbours.

We chose the Minerva apartment because of the reviews and truly, this place is even better than what one can expect : it is not only the location (close to many public transportations, next to the best and cheapest ice cream shop, opposite to a large grocecy store, couple of blocks from a local farmers market etc ...), the amenities (Minerva apartment is fully equiped with the best appliances), the nice decoration (very personnal and very homy) , it is all the personnal and friendly details that you'll find, as soon as you book. Mary Therese has compiled a welcome package with so much information that it you cannot miss anything. She'll draw you a map with all the buses and metro routes so that you know right away how to get around Rome. Wolfango will spend time showing you in and around the apartment, making sure you feel at home. One regret though : our stay could not last forever.

We spent our February half term break in Rome and stayed at the Minerva apartment. The apartment was very comfortable and conveniently located to the Metro and Termini train station. There's a grocery store directly across the street, and the oldest gelateria called Fassis' across the street as well. (We had dessert there every night.) Do not worry when you see the graffiti outside of the buildings - as it is a safe area. Pay attention to Mary Therese as she goes over the map - she gives valuable information which is extrememly helpful and practical info about getting around in Rome. One you book your stay at the apartment, Mary will send lots and lots of helpful information via email as well. Thank you for making our stay in Rome so comfortable!

Dear Donna and family,
Many thanks for your kind compliments, it was a pleasure to meet you all, especially nice to meet people again from my home region, and we do hope that you have many good memories of your stay in Rome to share back home. Yes, the graffitti outside is just writers, creative rebellious youth who like to leave their mark on the walls, but there is not any crime associated with it, this is a safe an area as can be in Rome, it is residential and commercial, but also within the ancient Aurelian city walls, near the Porta Maggior Gate and the eatern side of the city center, just a step away from the chaotic and heavily touristic zone of the Colosseum - Forum archeological area. The benefits of being a short step away from that zone, yet close enough to walk in little time, can also be measured in less chaos in general and less chaotic noise of nighttime revelers in the zone, which can be very disturbing , and more normal food prices in stores and bars, while also having lesser-known ruins a few steps away, such as in the Piazza Vittorio park on our street and a block and half or so away , on Via Giolitti, the ruins of the ancient Nymphaeum, one site where marriages were held in ancient Rome. Rome has many, many layers of history to discover, and one trip is never enough, hopefully you'll be back again to see and experience more of this incredible and unique city. Thank you for staying at the Minerva,
Best regards,

Left on 01/21/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We stayed in the Minerva for a week in January. It is close to all major transport, bus and tram downstairs, train 2 block walk, and a great supermarket across the road. Beds are comfortable and warm. Appliances all in excellent condition and the decor is homey and comfortable. The extraordinary thing about this apartment is the hosts, Mary and Wolffango. They met us and went to great lengths to explain everything. They suggested restaurants, clearly explained the public transport system and drew up a map which was incredibly useful for us "first timers" to Rome. There is a lot of graffiti around but this doesn't mean the area wasn't safe. We felt very comfortable walking around day and night. The supermarket is comprehensive across the rd with great breads and deli and butchery. We saw so many places in our Rome adventures that it was nice to come back to our little 5th floor ( with elevator) base. Everything was spotlessly clean. On the one day my teens were sick they were happy to stay in with Dvds and the wifi. We cooked dinner most nights and everything was convenient and easy to use. they had a jug - many apartments we stayed in did not - so we could make tea easily, and medicines toiletries etc. Very comfortable.

Dear Dale and family,
Hello and thank you for the very warm review. We are glad to hear that you had a good holiday in Rome, and that the apartment worked well for you. The graffitti in Rome is done by kids called "writers" , who just "tag" everything in sight with their names, they are not gangs, we don't have gangs here, it is a safe area, its just bothersome writers leaving their mark for fun. I am sorry, if I had known your kids were sick , we could have gotten them to a doctor for care, you could have called us, we would have helped. We hope that you have many good memories of your trip to share back home, thank you for staying at the MInerva,

We are a family with 3 children and we have just spent 4 nice nights at Minerva apartment. The owners were very welcoming and gave us a lot of advices about our future Roma visits. The apartment was very clean and the jacuzzi is very pleasant after a long walking day. The public transport are very close (tram in front of the door, underground station just 5 minutes by foot) and there is a supermarket in the opposite building. So we heartily recommend the apartment.

Left on 12/16/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Had a wonderful first visit to Rome with our six and eight year old boys and the apartment was a big part of our experience. Very friendly owners, Wolfango and Mary Therese, made themselves available 24 hours a day while we were there. They made us feel very comfortable when we arrived and gave us a tour of the apartment and educated us on the transportation options and best sites to see. Comfortable and roomy 2BR 1Ba apartment that was beautifully custom-made by Wolfango, complete with built-in bookcases that proved to be helpful during our stay. While we didn't use the jacuzzi, I can imagine it would be a welcomed benefit with all the exploring walking we did.
The location was convenient with a grocery store, gelato shop, and tram stop across the street, and it was also in close proximity to Manzoni station. Kitchen had more than everything you need with appliances, dishes, utensils, pots/pans, tools, etc... Only thing missing would be a freezer, however we really didn't have much of a need for one. We had some of our best meals in the apartment after all of the great sightseeing we did. If we return to Rome, the only reason we would stay elsewhere is if the Minerva is booked by someone else.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 12/17/2012

Dear Donald and family,
Hello. Thank you very much for the nice review. I hope you both and your sons have many wonderful memories of your stay in Rome to share back home. We decided against a freezer as most people stay only a few days and it seemed superfluous in this case, and left more room for the counter in the kitchen. You are welcome back any time, it was a pleasure meeting you all,

Santa BarbaraGreat place for families with young kids
Left on 12/13/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed here for 6-nights with our two young children, ages 2 and 4. It's an ideal spot for a young family in so many ways...wonderful grocery store across the street, subway stop is a 5-min walk, a big park/playground is right near the subway, and amazing (and affordable!!) gelato also across the street! Our kids were so comfortable in the apartment with their own big room, lots of books, a TV, and a pack-n-play for our 2-year old that they so kindly provided. The apartment is gorgeous and Mary and Wolfgano went overboard to make sure everything was just right. The full kitchen was just what we needed when traveling with little kids. We also loved being in a building with a lift! We'd been living in Italy for 2 months before this visit and we were getting quite tired of carrying our 2-year old and strollers up 50+ stairs everywhere else we stayed. The elevator here was a welcome relief!
I would suggest that if you stay here, that you're up for lots of walking or using public transportation! Thankfully it's close to the subway that takes you to most of the main attractions in Rome in a short time, but if you ever want to just walk, we found that the main attractions in Rome took us much longer to reach than we expected (and we walk rather quickly when pushing strollers). We never ventured onto the crowded buses with our little ones, but that's the only way to get to St. Peter's (no sub going there).
We would also recommend ear plugs as the walls were a bit thin and a neighbor enjoyed watching TV late into the night.
Overall, we loved staying here and would absolutely stay again next time we're in Rome!

Dear Julie and Scott,
Hello. Thank you for the nice review you left for the Minerva. We hope that you have many good memories of your stay in October, one of the best months in Rome. I am sorry, you must not have understood in my explanation of the subway map that the subway station for St. Peter's was the Ottaviano stop, I am so sorry that didn't get through when you were there, and you must have been so tired from walking, so sorry, I thought it was clear. Oh my goodness how much you must have walked! I can understand not wanting to use the 87 or 64 buses to St. Peter's with strollers, but if you had asked us, we would have explained, we thought the map explanation during check-in had been thorough, but maybe with the kids fidgeting not all was understood. Hopefully you'll be back and can use the subway next time with more ease of mind. The buses are just a few blocks down by the subway and then there's a tram and bus under the house, the downtown is a ten minute ride, or a 25 minute walk, as we are on the east side of the city center, within the old walls of Rome, nearest the Porta Maggiore gate, and Rome has the largest city center of Europe, it is a sprawling city center, really, so things are spread out more than in other European cities, being a polycentric city. We wanted to thank you for the extra things and gifts you left with us, especially the colors from your husband were a very nice and unexpected thing, as my husband and I both paint, and we appreciate it very much. You should have called us about the neighbors, we usually tell people during the tour that if neighbors are keeping the tv on loud , just call us and we will come knock on their door and ask them to lower the sound to a peaceful level, you could have called us, we would have happily been there in 10 minutes to take care of it. So sorry you put up with it, I will absolutely remind my husband to tell and remind more than once to all clients during the house tour that we can intervene if noise is bothersome from neighbors. Unfortunately it can happen even in hotels, and we are located in a condominium building, but we have talked to neighbors before and they have immediately lowered the sound, asking pardon, so it is not a problem, you really should have called us, we are 24-hour concierges, clients can call at any time, so sorry you put up with it, if we had only known , if you had called us, we could have let you know about the Ottaviano stop for St. Peter's and intervened with the neighbors, it would have not been any problem at all, so sorry you didn't call us to ask. Aside from that, we hope that your trip to Rome was a good one and if you're back, and you stay with us again, please, do call for anything you need or are uncertain about, we can help in many ways and hope to help our clients have the best imaginable experience in Rome. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family, the kids were truly adorable, we hope they liked the city too. We've added kids dvd's of cartoons in English to the dvd selection, I don't know if they were there when you stayed with us, but we are constantly trying to improve the stay for clients and my husband is renovating a section of the house now, adding more wainscotting in the hall this week, which was the last place left to add it to, and is adding a fountain in the second bedroom for drinking water, as Roman water is very good, as in the fountains of Rome, coming from the same mountain sources the ancient Romans used, still using an underground section of the 2,000 year-old acqueduct for today's Rome. Again thank you for staying at the MInerva, hope to see you again one dayin Rome,
Best regards,

In early September 2012 my husband and I had the good fortune of staying at the Minerva apartment in Rome. The location is great. The tram to Termini stops right in front of the door and from Termini one can get anywhere in Rome. The grocery store across the street is comprehensive and there is an excellent market three blocks away. The area feels very safe, even at night.
But the best thing is the friendly and helpful owners who go out of their way to make their guests stay in Rome the best it can be. The apartment has little touches such as umbrellas and a sewing kit, just in case you didn't bring such things.
I would highly recommend this apartment for your stay.

Left on 10/19/2012 for a stay in October 2012
I was very happy with firstly the location of the apartment,s it was directly on the Tram line which could take you to Termini Station , and moly a block or 2 away from the Metro Underground service. Literally a 15 minute walk to the Colosseum with banks and shops close by. The apartment was comfortable being that you were out sight seen most of the day, it was great to return and have the comforts of home there with you such as the washing machine, a jacuzzi bath and rain shower! He kitchen was also well equipped with a super market right opposite if wou did not want to eat out . My only comment would be that the sofa bed n the sitting room was a bit uncomfortable to use but for most people it would not be a problem, however we returned early he evening and to sit for a few hours was not comfortable. The owners were wonderful and provided a full detail on the apartment and how everything functioned . They also were extremely helpful with providing a map of the main sights and details on how to get there. I would most definitely recommend this apartment and would stay here agin if I get the opportunity.

We greatly enjoyed our stay in the Minerva apartment. It is conveniently located near bus/tram stops and metro stations and very affordable. The apartment is very well maintained by the owners, practically equipped with sturdy furnitures (partly self-made by the owners) and features amenities such as wifi, jacuzzi bath tube, and air conditioning. Sleeping is comfortable as the mattresses are of good quality which is rarely the case in renting apartments.
The owners are extremely helpful and charming. You can tell that they do everything for you to provide you with a pleasant stay in their apartment. The apartment is embedded in an older living house with several other apartments. From time to time you can hear noises from the neighbors, but it's not a problem. Noise from outside (traffic, bus, tram), however, is very well blocked by the well insulated windows.
We also enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the owners, the practical hints and the interesting chats we had together on arrival and departure times.
We felt at home right away and would certainly come back to this location for another trip to Rome.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 11/23/2012

We arrived in Rome towards the end of our European family adventure. We were a familyof 2 adults and 2 kids ages 10 and 13 years. Wolfgang and Mary Therese met us at the apartment and gave us the introduction to both their wonderful apartment and to Rome. Yes, it took a while but was done with such warmth and enthusiasm we felt we were being welcomed by family. We were then left to explore the delights of the apartment. After lots of cramped rooms in the previous cities we had visited we delighted in the space. The kids room was huge with a great TV with a DVD player. They loved watching some of the Dvds about the history of Rome that Wolfgang pointed out which was useful when we did our tour of ancient Rome. Our room had a very comfortable bed and lots of great books! (We had read all our packed ones by the time we got to Rome!) We loved the kitchen and although we didn't cook we made breakfast and snacks. The whole apartment is wonderfully well stocked from kitchen essentilas to diarrhoea medicine in the bathroom cupboard! We took advantage of the washing machine and had no trouble getting things dry on the balcony.
We were able to comfortable walk to the Colosseum and back (even our 10 year old managed this without too much moaning) and there are trams and buses right outside the door. We got ourselves to and from the Vatican City without any problems using public transport.
We felt very safe at all times in the neighbourhood and the apartment itself has excellent security.
We often talk of our stay in Rome and agree that it was the best accomodation of our trip!Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 12/11/2012

Our stay at the Minerva was better than we could have hoped for. Mary and her husband were extremely welcoming and gave us very detailed information about the apartment and how to use all the facilities when we arrived, which made our stay comfortable and smooth from day 1. They were also very informative about Rome, giving us advice and recommendations on places to visit - such service went beyond our expectations!
The apartment itself is lovely and extremely safe. There was little to no noise from the surrounding area. The rooms are well maintained, airy and very comfortable to stay in. The apartment also has everything you could need, from a fully filled first-aid/medicine cabinet to kitchen utensils - we couldn't have asked for more!
It is very conveniently located, equidistant to 2 metro stations and good tram and bus links too. The close proximity to the oldest ice cream shop across the road was an amazing bonus!

We had the pleasure of staying here for a week in June based on all the reviews we read. All the excellent things mentioned about this apartment are true.
The apartment is not in old Rome but is quite central with excellent transit connections to all parts. We walked to the colliseum several times inspite of having a double stroller. The subway stop is less than 5 minutes away and gets one to center in 10 minutes.
Mary's advise and guidance regarding transport served us well. We enjoyed meeting with Wolfgango. They are both perfectionists and it shows in the car they take of the apartment.
Of the things my daughters recall as their favorite things in Rome, the apartment is one of them. It was a great respite from the heat.

Hello. Many thanks to you for staying with us and for the very nice review! We are very glad that you had a good stay at the Minerva and hope that you all have many wonderful memories of the Eternal City. Yes, we are not in the heart of the downtown city center, but are still in the central -eastern part, between the Colosseum and the Termini station, both a short walk.We are within the ancient city walls, in fact, I don't know if you saw it, but there is the Porta Maggiore City Gate with the Baker's Tomb and the remains of the Giulia Acqueduct at the end of our street, beyond the traffic light and the ancient Roman Nymphaeum ruins one street over. The Esqulino was one of the seven hills of Rome and the quarter was a principal part of ancient Rome, with large villas here, a yet-to-be-found second Minerva temple(after the main one at the Pantheon), the ancient Roman water-pumping station ruins in the park down our street and the ruins of multicultural Jewish and Christian temple, too, with Roman-era Cabalistic signs on the ruins of a doorway, there in the Piazza Vittorio park. Unfortunately we don't have the time to tell everyone about every sight there is to see, however, we will prepare a few papers on neighborhood and other sights to keep in the guest book in the Minerva, so that people may know about the close-by sights and others if they read it. We hope that you come back to Rome again one day, once is never enough to see even a portion of this amazing city. It was great meeting you and your wonderful children, I am sure they'll have much to tell their friends back home about their trip.
Best regards,
Mary Therese and Wolfango -

Matawan, NJThe Minerva apartment can be described in one word, awesome.
Left on 07/17/2012 for a stay in June 2012
June 2012 our family (w/girls:14+10) traveled through London, Paris, Rome and Venice. In each city we rented apartments instead of using hotels. Ee had great experiences with each rental but the Minerva was the best of them all. Everything was exactly as shown and described on their web site and FlipKey. Before arrival we got a very detailed and informative information pack about the apartment and area. The apartment is a relatively short walk from Termini train station. Those that don't like to walk can take a taxi, bus or tram with drop-off points in front of the building. We were greeted at the apartment by the owner and offered a refreshment (a really nice touch after a long flight). We were given a tour of the apartment and shown where everything was and how to use it (a helpful feature when not familiar with local standards, customs or appliances). The owners were also available by phone to answer any questions that came up during our stay. The apartment is very clean, nicely decorated, well maintained and has many 'extras' included (more than any other unit we had rented) making you feel at home.
Rome was hot and humid in late June but large ceiling fans throughout the apartment kept it cool and we never used the a/C. The nice neighborhood around the apartment felt safe and was quiet at night. Conveniently across the street to the left is a large supermarket and to the right is Rome's oldest ice cream shop that everyone must try. Our kids quickly learned it was open late every night (except Mondays) and offers a very large variety of unique flavors. Many other shops, restaurants and conveniences are within walking distance. The colosseum is just a 10-15 min walk down one street. Within a few blocks in either direction is a metro stop as well as buses, so we were ideally located for taking either short or long walking trips throughout Rome.
We highly recommend it for anyone visiting Rome and will return there ourselves the next time.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 07/18/2012

Amherst, NHA fantastic apartment in the heart of Rome
Left on 06/11/2012 for a stay in March 2012
My and wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Minerva apartment in mid March 2012 for a week. We had found it on Trip advisor and it certainly lived up to all the positive reviews. As others had said previously it was very easy to book on line and Mary Therese is probably one of the most detail oriented people we have ever dealt with, so we were well informed before we even arrived which was very nice. The apartment itself is in a decent area of Rome and we felt very safe both in the apartment and walking the area. On arrival Mary Therese and her husband Wolfango (who renovated the entire apartment and did a great job) spent a good hour going over all the working details of the apartment, restaurant and sight seeing tips, how to utilize the various modes of transportation. We went to Romantica restaurant nearby which was excellent.
They really have everything you need there from linens, towels, and a full kitchen. We were able to prepare a couple of dinners and had everything we needed. The place was immaculate! They even have a washing machine so we were able to do some laundry before we headed up to Tuscany.
Fortunately there is a decent supermarket diagonally across the street and across from there a good coffee shop. As other's have mentioned, a great gelato shop less than a block away in the other direction.
We were able to walk to the all the ancient Rome sites, but if you preferred you could use public transportation. You definitely don't want a car while you are in Rome.
All in all it was great week and staying here really made us feel like we were living in Rome and part of the community rather staying at a hotel and just visiting. We will definitely be back in the future.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 06/15/2012

Hello. Thank you very much for the great review. Unfortunately it wound up on a different page on Tripadvisor and we just found them this week, and had to contact them to bring the reviews to our page, which is why we didn't know you'd left a review until now. Owners were attentive and gracious, communicating with us beforehand and meeting us upon our arrival. Provided us with information about the apartment, nearby restaurants and the transportation system. Their well-maintained, spotless apartment had all the essential amenities plus a washing machine and a wonderful tub. Beds were very comfortable -- while we only needed 2, the apartment sleeps 5. Kitchen stocked. Located across the street from a grocery store on a block where several buses and trolleys stop; 10 min. walk to metro. Light sleepers advised to bring earplugs -- apartment walls thin -- a small detraction for the excellent overall value. Wifi works for email and g-video/skype. If I were to come back to Rome, I'd definitely stay here again.

60878Wonderful Stay at Minerva apartment in Rome
Left on 05/19/2012 for a stay in May 2012
My husband, son and I had a wonderful stay at the two bedroom Minerva apartment while we were in Rome in early May. We found the apartment on Trip advisor and we were very impressed with the lovely apartment, the way it is furnished, and the attention and responsiveness Mary Therese and her husband Wolfango gave to us during our stay.
The apartment has been wonderfully remodeled by Wolfango and you can see the intricate workmanship in the woodwork and tile work throughout the apartment. We absolutely loved the huge bathroom which has two bathroom sinks, a large jetted tub and shower, and we made use of the washing machine in the bathroom. The large apartment by american standards had ample room for the three of us to move around.
The apartment is conveniently located to a supermarket and places to eat. It was very easy to either walk to the Coleseum and other sights or take the train. Since there were 3 of us, we decided to take a taxi from the airport to the Minerva apartment and it cost us 40 euros, well worth the cost.
We enjoyed the sights of Rome and we wished that we had scheduled more time in Rome and at the Minerva. We couldn't be more happy with the apartment and were well taken of by Mary Therese and Wolfango, ensuring that all our needs during our stay were met. Mary Therese and Wolfango told us that they are available 24/7 and we could call them at any time of the day if we needed something from them, which is unheard of and incredible service. On the day of our departure, Mary Therese and Wolfango came by to call a taxi for us and to make sure that we got off alright.
All the raving reviews of the Minerva on this site are true. We will definitely recommend the Minerva to all our friends and hope that someday we will be able to return to Rome, stay at the Minerva and see Mary Therese and Wolfango again.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 05/24/2012

44881Perfect Stay in Rome!!
Left on 04/14/2012 for a stay in April 2012
I searched Trip advisor for months looking for the perfect place for our family of 5 to stay while in Rome. Since we have 3 adults and 2 children (6 and 14 months) we were looking for something bigger than a hotel, but still right in the middle of the action. The Minerva fit the bill exactly. I booked via email months ahead of time, and we stayed in contact to confirm as the date got closer. The hospitality started when we booked the apartment in January (our trip was in april). Mary Therese emailed me a 14 page word document with details about everything from transportation to local restaurants in the area. When the date finally arrived she and Wolfgango were waiting at the apartment and helped us settle in. Armed with a detailed map of the area and a highlighter, Mary Therese mapped out the entire city giving us recommendations on eating and activities in the area. The apartment was great, with enough room for us to spread out. They had the crib set up in our room and even bought milk for her and put in the fridge! They made sure that we had everything we needed for our vacation. We could have stayed there and talked with them for hours!! The apartment has 2 televisions with English speaking channels (although we never watched them!), Wi-Fi, free telephone service in case you need to call a taxi or make a dinner reservation, and a great bathroom with double sinks and a huge jacuzzi tub, which my older daughter and I loved!!! Unfortunately, my entire family got a 24 hour stomach virus, and Mary Therese offered to take us to the local clinic. We thankfully did not need to go, but the gesture was nice. The apartment is next to several restaurants, 2 metro stops within a couple of blocks in either direction, the bus line right outside the door, and the best gelato shop in all of Rome is across the street! We went every night we were there! The apartment is stocked full of up to date guide books and language translation books in order to help map out your vacation. We highly recommend the Minerva if you are visiting Rome!!! Thank you so much Mary Therese and Wolfgango!!!

Hello,
Thank you much for the kind review, we appreciate it much. We hope that your stay was a memorable one and that you have a chance to be back to Rome one day, once is never enough! It was a pleasure meeting you, truly, and if your cousin ever decides to come live in Rome, like he enthusiastically expressed, we are happy to give any tips and help he may need. We wanted to thank you for the foodstuffs you donated to the house, that is much appreciated, as we like to create a chain effect of donating a little something for the next arrivals, an old tradition in Italy in mountain inns, which we adopted. Many thanks to you for staying with us,

New Brunswick, CanadaRoman Christmas
Left on 03/26/2012 for a stay in December 2011
My husband, teenage step-son and I spent 8 nights (Dec 22-29) at the Minerva apartment. We found the apartment to be a good size for three people who are used to having their own space. The apartment is located in a 'real' neighbourhood, not extremely close to the major tourist attractions, but we were able to walk easily to the Colosseo, etc. and Bascilia San Giovanni in Laterano, and the Manzoni Metro station (Line a, which runs to the Vatican) is not even 5 minute walk. This is a much nicer Metro station than the Vittorio Emanuele station. We made use of the grocery store across the street practically every day, and there were two restaurants that we enjoyed in the area, Il Tempio Minerva and Romantica. Also, a tram and bus stop are directly in front of the apartment building! So, although the neighbourhood might not meet romantic notions of Rome, it does have conveniences that other neighbourhoods might not have.
The kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms all met our expectations. The road can get busy, so be sure to use the metal shutters at night. Our hosts certainly made us feel welcome and went so far as to help me get my 'late' suitcase back, by making phone calls and waiting at the apartment for it to arrive while we were out sight seeing.
The apartment certainly added to the pleasure and memories of our Christmas in Rome!Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 03/29/2012

Mary and Wolfango were attentive right from when I enquired via Tripadvisor. The apartment was exactly as described and information was correct and upto date. They were there to greet us and spent some hours in showing us the apartment and enthusiastically describing the delights of their city with maps - which was inspiring and very helpful. There have useful city guides and lots of local contact infos. The apartment is on the 5th floor (small lift) and has two bedrooms, one larger and can act as a living room given a 3rd bed and sat TV. The hallway also has a TV and a comfortable sofa. Kitchen and large family bathroom all separate off the hallway, so plenty of room even with 3 laptops and 2 teenagers. Wifi very good (gets busy in the evenings). Kitchen very well stocked and we ate in often (local supermarket just opposite and famers market 3 blocks away). One small tip - serving spoons for Salad would be a helpful addition. Great icecream place over the road (but no ice box in the aparment so buy only what you'll eat in the moment). The road is busy with cars and trams - but apartment is quiet (good windows) and we slept very well (beds very good).
Located in a non-touristy area, so you see some more gritty city life, but is residential and safe. It is within walking distance of the Colliseo and Fori Romani, otherwise bus and metro are a few blocks away and communication is easy. If you really get lazy, taxis seem to be 15EUR home from anywhere in the city.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 03/13/2012

In January 2012, I spent a week at the Minerva with my son and his girlfriend. We loved it and recommend it without hesitation.
The Minerva is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked. Although it is only a 15-minute walk to the Colosseum, it is not in the center of the tourist district, providing an opportunity to live among the locals. There is a supermarket across the street, a lively market a couple of blocks away, and many very good and inexpensive retaurants. Public transportation to all of the best sights is simple and cheap. Tip -- we found that if we were in a place not served by the Metro or by buses that go nearest to the Minerva, we could easily get back to the apartment by riding a bus to the Termini train station and catching the tram to the apartment.
Mary Therese and Wolfgango were top-notch hosts, extremely warm and helplful. Mary Therese showed us how to get around and served as a concierge, making dinner reservations for us, etc. Wolfgango showed us how everything worked in the apartment and entertained us with stories about Michaelangelo (he is an art history professor).

My family of 5 checked into Minerva very early morning of Dec 13, 2011. Mary and Wolfango was there to greet us and help us with the luggage to the apartment in 5th Floor with elevator (a plus point). The apartment was so complete from the bathroom to kitchen and the bedrooms with a library of vast books which my children greatly enjoyed. A supermarket just opposite the street and minutes away from Colesseum. Chinese food is available nearby.
My 15 years old son fall ill on the day of arrival and I asked Mary for help as Rome is foreign to us. Both Mary and Wolfango help us to fetch my son to a tourist hospital at about 11 pm without hesitation after finishing their work and having to travel 60km out of town to be back in Rome to assist us. Who on earth will do that? Minerva's Owner did.
Our trip took us further to amalfi Coast and Chanti and these are my 3 children's comment during our road trip. They said and I quote "Minerva is the Best".
Once again, our heartiest thanks to both Mary and her husband Wolfango.

Have just spent a lovely few days in Rome staying in the Minerva apartment. The weather was fantastic and the apartment was all we could have wished for, both of which made the trip memorable. The apartment was very well equipped and it was lovley to have a few provisions on our arrival. The introduction to the apartment and to Rome by Wolfgano and Mary was excellent and even though I had been to Rome previously it was great to have a comprehensive introdution to the local area especially the relevent buses to use, we certainly got our monies worth out of the weekly transport passes. The apartment was very nice, clean and big enough for 4 adults. Loved being abe to buy food from the local shops and market and cook in the extremely well stocked kitchen. The apartment location was ideal with easy access to all the wonderful sights. Looking forward to coming back to Rome in the future. thanks

The apartment easily lived up to the excellent reviews I read on tripadvisor before booking. Mary Therese Burns was very helpful, including her pre-trip emails, introduction to the apartment and area, and arranging arrival and departure times to suit our flights.
Location is excellent, in a quiet area (traffic noise doesnt get through the thick windows, nor light through the curtains & shutters) within walking distance of Termini and the Collosseum, with trams outside the front door, and buses & subway close by. There is an excellent cheap market a few minutes walk away for stocking up on bread, cheese and sausage.
The apartment was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed, including spacious bedrooms, modern bathroom and a kitchen to make meals (we only had time for snacks but there is a modern cooker too).
What I liked most was the hospitality of Mary Therese and her husband and their recommendations for restaurants and places to see (I wouldn't have seen the Borghese Gallery if they hadn't warned me to book in advance). What I liked least was only having time to stay for a week.
I'm looking forward to visiting Rome again and staying in this apartment.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 11/26/2011

Ours was a last minute booking made easy by Mary's prompt responses and excellent communication. Finding the apartment was easy (just as described) and the welcome - despite our late arrival - was warm and enthusiastic. We got a great briefing on the apartment and the local area, as well as some very useful tips on how to get the most out of our short stay.
The apartment is well placed for exploring: 10-15 minutes walk from the Colosseum, good for transport links - 10 minutes walk to the Termini station and on several bus/tram routes - with some good restaurants around, a supermarket opposite and Rome's oldest gelato shop across the road.
We found the apartment to be everything we expected and well worth the high ratings we'd seen on trip advisor. We were fortunate enough to make the Minerva our base during our recent stay in Rome. How lucky were we. The lovely and helpful Mary Therese greeted us at the apartment with a cooling glass of lemonade. She explained the workings of everything , the locations of tourist sites, transport, museums and shopping. It was a very thorough orientation. The apartment is very comfortable and exceptionally clean. It feels like you are staying in your own home it is just so welcoming. It is stocked with absolutely everything you could possibly need during your stay. Even the kitchen was stocked with some groceries. There are some very helpful guidebooks that can be used during your stay as well. The windows are double glazed to keep out any noise. There are also airconditioners and fans. Before arriving Mary Therese had emailed some very detailed information about the neighbourhood, transport, tourist sites and restaurants which was extremely helpful. It only takes about 5 minutes by tram to reach the apartment from the station. The Colosseum is about 15-20 minutes walk away. There is a bus route nearby to go into the heart of Rome. It was wonderful to be able to return to the Minerva after a long day of sightseeing in Roma. A great spot for a delicious meal is Rom antica 52 Via E Filiberto , a restaurant with an authentic Italian atmosphere. It was our favourite restaurant in 4 weeks of travelling around Europe, with the best service as well. The Minerva is amazing value for the price. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the only disappointment was when it was time to bid fairwell.

It was a pleasure to stay at this apartment and full marks go to Therese and Wolfgang who have combined to present an apartment with the special touches of artistry and good taste. Every aspect of our stay at this apartment was wonderful, it was well appointed and comfortable but most of all the friendliness of our hosts was the most memorable. We hope to come and see you again one day.

I stayed in the apartment with my daughter last November on my first trip to Rome. We could not have had a better start to begin to explore the Eternal city. I will return to this apartment very soon with my husband to see some more of Rome. The owners are amazing with their vast knowledge & range of information at hand. The apartment is spacious and a great place to return to each evening. Every possible convenience is available to make your stay enjoyable.

Dear Christine,
Hello. Thank you for the kind review! We are looking forwards to seeing you here again with your husband soon, you will find many improvements to the Minerva from before. Hopefully the weather will stay nice for your coming stay, one benefit of coming in November is that lines in museums are shorter usually than in peak season, and one can take more time in museums to savour the art, also without the extreme heat. Have a good trip over, we shall see you soon,

The Minerva apartment was just what we needed. I was traveling from Florida with my grown son from Calif., and my daughter and 12 year old grand-daughter from Mich. The apartment provided enough space for all and privacy when we needed it. The kitchen was stocked with the essentials, including the staples that no one wants to go out and buy. Really appreciated the little touches that Mary and Wolfango thought of. The Metro transportation needs are all close by, with buses and trams directly in front of the apartment door. Supermarket on the corner, some great restaurants in the area, and the oldest gelateria across the street. I love staying in neighborhoods when we travel, gives much more of a sense of community rather than tourist. If I get back to Rome again, will book the Minerva again.

Of all the places we've stayed during our recent trip in Europe, The Minerva apt provided the most comfort we need being away from home. Great customer service... you can't compare it with the other apts that are all maintained by agencies. We appreciate all the "extra" amenities and stuff in the apartment that Mary and Wolfango graciously provided!
The only drawback (not really a big deal) is the location. Not much option for nightlife. We pretty much too cab most of the time since the Metro had some construction done.
We would definitely recommend this place!!

When you first arrive at the apartment be prepared to sit with the owners for almost an hour as they have to show you every little thing about the apartment. She is nice but it could have been done in less time. The apartment does not have a sitting area, the living room has been turned into a 2nd bedroom. Be prepared to walk up a number of stairs as the elevator does not operate every day. All that said, if you want to feel like you are actually living in Rome and not visiting, this is a great apartment to stay at. The neighbourhood is not touristy. There is a great Gelato place across the street. The apartment is clean.

Dear Brad,
Hello. We are sorry if we made you impatient with our introductions to the house details, transport on the map and check-in, we were just trying to be helpful to first time guests to Rome, in the future we will ask clients if they'd like a briefer check-in.It's been a full year since you were in the apartment before you wrote this review and maybe you forgot, actually, the apartment has places to sit for all, the tv lounge for sitting and watching tv at the entrance, when both bedrooms are being used, and the kitchen table and there is a tv in the second bedroom also, and places to sit there, too. The Minerva is in a 1936 period building and we are so sorry that the building's vintage U.S.A.-made Otis elevator was having problems when you arrived, it was promptly repaired just after your stay and is in perfect working order now, holding 300 kg or 3 adults or 2 with luggage. No, it's not an outright tourist area, though it's central -east side, not far from the Colosseum and one benefit of that is that most prices are far lower than in tourist trap areas and one can walk all over in a short time or take good transport to sights. We are very glad that you liked the Fassi ice cream parlour, Rome's oldest, just 50 m away, it's a great treat, especially in summer, both kids and adults seem to like it. Yes, thank you for underlining the cleanliness of the apartment, we clean every time with the utmost care between clients from 9 am to 2 pm to leave a pristine, like-new experience for each client's stay. We are also 24 hr concierges and can be called at any hour for assistance or information on anything you may need, and you can call us also while you are elsewhere in Italy for English-language assistance. The Minerva Apartment offers excellent quality, cleanliness, design and comfort for an affordable price.

Mary Therese and Wolfango meet us and walked us through the apartment and then through a map of all the attractions and best bus routes. They are throughly delightful people and provided us with insights into certain museums and galleries. Making your stay at their stunning apartment is top priority to them and we cannot recommend them more.
The apartment is great with lovely balconies for people watching and all the amenities you could ever need. Beds were comfortable, the bathroom great with its jacuzzi bath - great for relaxing after a hard day's walking. The aC and ceiling fans are a real blessing after the hot city. You are made to feel like this is your home away from home.
Hopefully we will return to Rome one day to complete all that we missed first time and we will definitely stay at the Minerva again!

Left on 07/30/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Our hosts were very friendly apartment owners, Mary Therese and Wolfgango, who met us at the apartment and explained all the features of the apartment and how to use everything. Mary then walked us though a map of the area recommending places to visit and the best way to get there ( subway directions, etc). They provided us with their phone and cell numbers in case we had any kind of questions at all or any maintenance concerns.
They are very professional about what they do and had even prepared a welcome and intro package.
The apartment is large, very clean , and well appointed. All the comforts of home including a dishwasher, jacuzzi tub, and washing machine. The owners have gone to great effort to make the apartment beautiful and comfortable.
The eat in kitchen has a fridge (not a freezer), gas stove, and dishwasher and is complete with dishes and cookware.
The are two very generously sized bedrooms and an entry - way that can also be used as another bedroom. In total, you could sleep 6 here. There were 4 of us and we were more than comfortable.
The bathroom is also a good size with 2 sinks, a jacuzzi tub (wonderful after a day of exploring), and an apartment sized front loading washing machine.
The apartment is air conditioned and all rooms have ceiling fans. These are a great feature as it is very hot in Rome in the summer.
My favorite was the balconies - 2 of them - where you could watch the comings and goings on the street below.
The neighborhood is very safe with people out walking until at least midnight. Across the street is a grocery store. There are also many restaurants and shops in the neighborhood.
We had only one maintenance issue and it was dealt with immediately.
Overall an a+. Much, much better value than a hotel. We would definitely recommend this apartment for you stay in Rome

Dear Kathie, Mark and family,
Thank you very much for the gracious review, it helps people understand the continuing quality of our apartment through time and was very kind of you. Yes, we too like to "people watch" on the balconies! Actually, we are authorized only for 5 people to sleep at the Minerva, however, at times one of those 5 people needs to sleep separately, so we have a bed in the lounge which functions as both a sofa with pillows to watch tv, or as the 5th bed if needed.I hope you managed to finish that book you mentioned you were reading! It was lovely to have met your family and we hope that your trip to Rome was a memorable one, have a good summer,

Mary Therese and her husband(really nice guy too) were great hosts.2nd time for us cruising from Rome but this time we needed 4 days of just Rome. Excellent temperature control and nicely upgraded.Yes graffiti outside everywhere, but never felt that the area was bad. There's so much it's surprising that the Coliseum wasn't hit. Lot's of tourists around. Easy walk to subway to get to Vatican. Really easy walk to the Colosseum - 20 minutes. Far far superior than paying much more at hotels for just 2 rooms. They had all amenities in the kitchen and bathroom. Had our 2 late teens with us and they were good. We walked with our luggage from the Train Station and took about 10-15 minutes, however...Don't use Google maps to find the place from the train station. Street names in Rome change every 6 feet it seems and Goggle doesn't pick it up. We rent places just about everywhere we go in us so comparing, we would recommend Minerva. We're pretty critical so 4 stars is good from us.

Dear Roman and family,
Thank you for the compliments in your review. Unfortunately graffiti is a reality all over Rome and Italy, a part of a modern city, one just has to hope the "writer" fad among young people will pass one day soon. But really, it is a normal, safe neighborhood where many families live and work, not in the heart of tourist zones, though in the city center on the east side, between the Colosseum and the station. We hope that you had a memorable time in the Eternal City, and might be back to see more of this beautiful city one day.
Thank you again,

The Minerva is well equipped and the hosts provide a very well stocked house with some food and drinks, utensils, books, and tons of guide books and pamphlets on Roma. Everything is good quality.
The Minerva has all the ammenities a family would require and is a short walk to the park and the metro and a little longer walk to the Colleseum. Best of all, Fasi Gelato across the road is to die for!Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 08/04/2011

This is a great apartment in a great location. We stayed here with our 3 children 14, 12 and 10 years old. Mary Therese and Wolfgano welcomed us to the apartment and not only showed us how everything worked but also gave us lots of detailed tips for travelling around Rome - what to see, where to eat, what bus to catch etc. The apartment was very clean and very well equiped. A/C was a welcome relief at the end of the day and even with 5 the apartment was more than spacious enough. Location is excellent - we walked with luggage from Main Station (Rome Termini) in about 15 min. Alterntively a metro stop is less than 5 min walk and the colloseum about 15 min walk. One evening we even walked home from Spanish Steps (which took about 45 min but was very pleasant). Great Gelato shop opposite and also supermarket. All up a great experience.

Left on 07/11/2011 for a stay in June 2011
I usually do not like to travel to Rome in the heat, because of the general lack of good air conditioning,as we are used to having in Wash, DC.
This apartment is super comfortable, The aC works with controls in every room. It is a pleasure to comeback from a day of sightseeing and have a Jacuzzi bath and be able to cool off in real aC and wash my clothes in the apartment.
The beds are the most comfortable that I have had in any rental. The apartment is on a busy street, but you can't hear a sound when you close the windows.
They constantly are updating every thing in the apartment. There are new mirrors, and new wall coverings, and art work.
My only complaint is that it isn't always available the date I need it. I like it so much I actually changed the dates of my trip to coincide with the availability of Casa Minerva.
Mary and Wolf are just fonts of knowledge about things to do and places to see when there.
My wife and I just got back from 6 weeks of touring in Italy, and the most comfortable stay was at the Casa Mnerva. I can't understand why all Italians, don't appreciate good plumbing, AC that works,Showers that feel great, Tv's with lots of channels, a washing machine and dish washer that work.
I recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to Rome.

Was looking for a nice place to accommodate 5 people in Rome and came across Minerva. Rates were really affordable and location seems good, thus decided to go ahead and book the place. The pictures on their website does not justice to the actual place! The owners, Mary and Wolfgang are the dearest hosts you can ever find. They made the effort to run us through the whole place.
Initially, upon reaching the apartment block, was kind of skeptical about how the place will turn out, as the lift of the building was really old-school, those kind that you see in the 1950s' movies, but upon opening the doors to the apartment, it was like going into a different world. Wolfgang, being an industrial designer, actually designed and renovated the place himself. Looking at the details of the apartment, you can see how much passion he have in his work. The place is beautiful! there is not a single thing which I can point out that is wrong with the place. It is clean and just pretty to look at. It comes with a nice jacuzzi bathtub, satellite TV and even free wifi. Location is not bad, as it is a 10 minute walk to the nearest metro.

We recently returned from our vacation in Rome which included four nights at the Minerva apartment and we found it to be a very enjoyable place to stay. It was beautifully remodeled, spacious and clean. Everything we needed was included along with a few thoughtful extras such as milk in the refrigerator for our use when we arrived. Mary Therese made booking the apartment easy and provided lots of helpful information. She also responded quickly by email each time we had a question. She even helped us find a soccer match to see while we were in Rome. Wolfango did a great job of showing us all of the features of the apartment when we checked in. The bathroom was the biggest treat with two sinks, a large tub/shower, a clothes washing machine and lots of space. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment; there was a cook top, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, pots and pans. Yet with all of the many great restaurants nearby, we only ate breakfast in the apartment. The apartment included two TV’s with satellite cable and Wi-Fi that was very simple and worked perfectly. There was an elevator for easy access. The tourist attractions were a little far for walking so we used the subway and buses which were all convenient to catch from the apartment. We enjoyed the grocery store right across the street and also enjoyed getting away from the tourist crowds when we returned to the apartment each evening. Another plus for being away from the busy tourist areas was the nearby restaurants. We found the food and prices to be superior to many of the restaurants in the busy tourist locations. As an added treat, the oldest gelato shop in Rome is located across the street and down one block from the apartment; it was worth the wait!

A very spacious 2-bedroom apartment at a reasonable price. Mary and Wolfango are extremely helpful hosts. We enjoyed our stay here very much. The location is a bit out of the way of the main tourist attractions, but the Metro stop isn't far and the major bus routes are only a bit further away. On the plus side, there's a supermarket right across the street, and the tram outside will take you to the train station in just a few minutes. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, and the apartment has a full kitchen if you want to prepare your meals at home. In sum, if you're the type who likes to be right in the middle of the tourist action this isn't the place for you, but if you don't mind being a bit off the beaten track this is a great value.

I first heard of this apartment in the New York Times travel section. It's an amazing deal for this high end traveler, whom is accustomed to 4 and 5 star hotels; but spent most of my travel budget at Oktoberfest and partying in Barcelona. The apartment building was a bit sketchy, but when we walked into our flat, I was elated to see how beautiful the residence was. Quality appliances, extremely clean, and well stocked with food, and toiletries. Within 10 minutes of entering the apartment, the owners opened a bottle of wine and pulled out a local map to ensure we knew where we were, and highlighted all of tourist sightings, best restaurants, and shopping spots (since this was my first time to Rome). They really cared and wanted us to have the most fantastic time. In the end, I was sad to leave and would have paid double the price for this diamond in the rough. I can't wait to return.

Left on 03/07/2011 for a stay in February 2011
My family stayed at this apartment from 5th February to 22 February 2011 and enjoyed every moment. This apartment is professionally and ethically managed by Mary Therese Burns who made the booking process simple and transparent and you can have full confidence in dealing with her and her husband Wolfgango.
Mary and Wolfgango were there to meet us when we arrived in Rome after a 19 hour flight from australia and had provided us with all the background information required to find the apartment right down to what taxis to use. Mary had kindly bought us provisions like milk, bread, jam, juice etc to ensure that we were comfortable until we got to the supermarket which is across the road. Both Mary and Wolgango explained everything to us and asked us to contact them if we needed anything.
Mary and Wolgango were so generous they gave up their weekend to drive my family to assisi and Perugia after my husband hired a car only to find out he was not confident driving in Rome. Wolfgango was an excellent guide with a comprehensive knowledge of Roman history. They asked for nothing in return and the experience for us was wonderful. This gesture shows what type of people they are, proud of their country and genuinely interested to ensure their guests have a memorable stay.
The apartment is exceptionally clean, well stocked with high quality appliances, there is ample stocks of cleaning products and everything you would need to make your stay comfortable. The furniture, bedding and linen are all high quality and the apartment is very spacious and airy and above all safe and secure. The location is excellent and a short walk to just about all the attractions in Rome. There is trams, buses and a metro very close by and some lovely little restaurants.
If you are thinking about renting this apartment, have no reservations, you will be dealing with professional and ethical people who really care about their guests. Mary and Wolf are the most sincere people I have ever met and I travel extensively.
Lastly Rome is beautiful, so make sure you stay at least 7 days and choose this apartment for peace of mind and convenience.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 04/01/2011

Dear Thea and Tim,
Hello. We thank you so very much for your glowing review, we are happy to have met you and been able to help make your holiday in Rome a better one, that is how a holiday should be, memorable for all. We wanted to let you know that the artist we introduced you to has just finished another painting, a still life in the same 1600's manner, which we placed in the kitchen, next to the copy of the Caravaggio painting, it looks lovely! We hope that you have good memories of your stay, to last a lifetime. Thank you for staying at the Minerva,

This apartment was one of the best-value places we've stayed. We had plenty of space to chill out after our baby had gone to sleep in the evenings - something which is important to us. The owners were extremely welcoming and helpful. The apartment is close to the colosseum but a little way from most other tourist spots however it didn't bother us at all because Mary gave us so much information about our surrounding area that we felt like there was plenty to do close-by. She also gave us helpful information about which buses to catch etc to get to the touristy spots. Mary was also exceptionally helpful with giving us information prior to leaving for Rome. Eg How to get there from the airport. The apartment itself had everything we could have possibly needed and we were even spoilt with a little 'welcome pack.' It has a lovely feel to it - we felt like we were staying at a relative's house. A great place to come back to after a busy days sight-seeing.

This apartment was everything as described. We were traveling with 2 teenage boys and they had their own bedroom, where they could email, facebook and watch TV. Public transport access was excellent. Close to train station , the tram stop was right out our front door and bus access was just a walk around the corner. Mary explained all the needed bus routes and I kept that map with me at all times. We learnt very quickly how to get around Rome and very not afraid to get on a bus and see where it took us as all we had to do was return to the train station. Our budget meant cooking most meals and there was a well stocked supermarket across the road, that met all our needs.
Mary and Wolfgang are very welcoming and the apartment made our stay in Rome most enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 01/21/2011

We were enchanted with the apartment from the moment we met the owner who oriented us to the living space, Roman sightseeing opportunities and eating establishments. Mary was warm and caring, truly interested in our comfort and enjoyment of the apartment and Rome. The jacuzzi tub was a godsend after a long and fulfilling walk of Rome each day. The bed is comfortable, the apartment very clean and the kitchen well stocked. Italian and cable TV are available and local use of the telephone is allowed. Mary and her husband are art historians and added speical touches to our trip by giving us background anecdotes about the sites we visited. We definitley would return to the Minerva apartment on our next visit to this magical city.

What a wonderful experience we had staying in Mary Therese's apartment in Rome. The booking process went smoothly, preliminary information was excellent, as was pre-arrival contact. And then the reception - well, we couldn't have asked for a more friendly and helpful welcome. We were introduced to the apartment and to our local area and indeed Rome so well that we made the best of our time. The apartment is a comfortable 10-15m walk from the central station (easy with rollerbags) and the main attractions are not much further away. There is a good supermarket just across the road, a fruit and vegetable market around the corner and a great ice cream parlour half a block away. Inside the apartment it's all class - lots of room to spread out and put things and high quality fittings and equipment. Examples - the dual bathroom basins, the spa bath, the rain shower, the overhead fans, the lighting options, the security door, the quality double glazed windows that keep the hustle and bustle of Rome quiet if desired. And most importantly the beds are good so we all slept well. The two balconies were fun for soaking up the atmosphere and checking the weather. The service provided by Mary Therese was better than we'd experienced at any apartment in Europe. There was milk in the fridge and help with all manner of touring and dining ideas. In summary, if this apartment happens to be vacant when you need it, book it and enjoy yourselves.

Left on 11/21/2010 for a stay in October 2010
What a wonderful place to stay in the heart of Rome. We spent the Halloween weekend in Rome and are certainly glad we chose Classy Central Minerva as our base for seeing the sights.
We normally use hotels when we travel and this was our first (and definitely not last) experience using a rental apartment. Wow, what a difference!! The difference in price between Classy Central Minerva and a decent hotel is negligible when travelling with four people. The benefits you gain staying here are numerous. We could cook our own food whenever we wanted (the store across the street is even open on Sunday mornings), go to another room and read while the kids enjoyed satellite TV after a long day's sightseeing, and jacuzzi bath. You can bring your laptop, Ipods etc. and not have to worry about them while you are sightseeing as the front door locks tighter than a safe.
Mary Therese and Wolfango were exceptionally kind and really went the extra mile to make sure our stay was enjoyable. They really are available 24/7 which gives you some peace of mind in such a big and bustling city.
Pay special attention to their advice and tips when you arrive. We followed several of them: Mama Mia pizzeria (around the corner is quick and has such an entertaining owner that my 10 year-old son went back to have his picture taken with him), when to get to the Vatican and what the current expositions were at the museums. You won't be disappointed if you follow their advice.
Regarding the elevator problem, we discovered that it sometimes doesn't like the 5th floor (where the apartment is located), so all you have to do is get it on the 6th floor and ride it down to the 5th.
I would definitely recommend the Classy Central Minerva to family and friends. You can't go wrong!!Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 11/23/2010

My travel buddy and I stayed at the Minerva on our first (of many hopefully) stay in Rome. The apartment was a great place to stay. It was so nice to have the space to spread out, and each have a little privacy in the evenings. The beds were super comfortable, everything was clean and in good working order, and the wireless internet was great. It was especially nice to have the washer to do some laundry so we didn't have to pack so much.
There is a tram/bus stop out in front of the house that made it easy to get around to the places we couldn't reasonably walk to. There are good places to eat near by, and a grocery store right across the street. I'd highly recommend Mama Mia's around the corner. Mary & Wolfgango provided us with a lot of information when we checked in so we had a head start on how to get to the places we wanted to see, and knew where to go to get good food and supplies. They are available 24/7 if you need them, and Mary saved us from being late for a big event after we had trouble with ordering a taxi.
If you are not used to the noises of a big city, you may want to prepare yourself for the sounds that come with a city of this size. I am a country girl so the "noise" from the street, (buses, sirens etc.) made it hard for me to fall asleep the first night. That was quickly resolved with some earplugs, and I slept like a baby all week. :-)
The only minor trouble we had was that the lift (elevator) was not working one day we were there. Thankfully it wasn't a day we needed to move luggage. Mary & Wolfgango obviously have no control over that so I can't fault the rental. But it is something to keep in mind if you or anyone in your party has trouble climbing stairs.
Overall I would highly recommend the Minerva, and if it is available we plan on renting again on our return trip in 2012.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 11/18/2010

I want to say that the Minerva has St. Gobain double -paned windows, and we tried our best at souns proofing, however , some residual city noise does arrive, but for people used to to the city it is quite normal. We're glad you enjoyed your stay,

Travelled to Rome and had the pleasure of staying in Mary and Wolfango's Minerva apartment. It exceeded our expectations, not to mention the wonderful welcome we received by Mary and her husband. The area may not seem convenient but indeed you have everything right at your doorstep. The grocercy store, fresh market, termini station and the best part is the gelato store which serves the best and cheapest in the city across the street!! The apartment itself is luxury and we found no need to spend alot on meals out. We enjoyed coming home and sitting on the balcony enjoying our wine and watching the locals go about their day. We ventured out one night for pizza and a good restaurant is right around the corner. The subway is 10 minute walk and the bus to termini is outside the apartment. That meant we could take the bus to termini from anywhere in the city when we were done our sightseeing.
Consider this apartment for your next Rome holiday, you will be glad you did!!! Thank you to Mary and Wolfango for your hospitality.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 10/07/2010

Hello,
Thank you for the very nice opinion, we appreciate it. We were glad to have met you, and hope that the rest of your trip up north was just as beautiful as in Rome, that area is very special, with many gorgeous small villages with breathtaking views. We are glad you liked the Minerva, we put our heart and soul into maintaining it at the highest levels of quality for each and every client, and we try to tailor our city tips to help each client with their particular itinerary in Rome and elsewhere in Italy, whether it be a day trip to Pompeii and the Amalfi coast, Assisi or elsewhere. Glad you found the Farmer's Market,a few blocks away, it is the best gourmet market of the city , frequented by the best chefs of the city and the prices can't be beat, besides being a very entertaining experience to visit, also the goods market located just behind it has great buys. You are most welcome to come back anytime, we hope you have great memories of your trip!

Hi
Just wanted to add to the comments that people have previously left about the Minerva apartment. We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Mary Therese was there to welcome us when we got to the apartment and showed us round. It seems that Wolfgango and Mary Therese have thought of every detail and go that extra mile to ensure your stay is as pleasant as possible. The apartment was cosy and my bed was super comfy and having a jacuzzi to come home to after walking for 9 hours was bliss.
i would recommend the Roma Pass for 25 Euros. We didnt get it and after 2 or 3 days decided we should have. Its more for convenience than money saving reasons as you can only get tickets at the tobacconists or certain other places, so it takes time and effort to locate these outlets. With the Roma Pass all your metro/bus tickets are taken care of and you get free entry to the Colosseum and one other museum. Our other top tip is get a guided tour or at the very least an audioguide wherever you go. We didnt do this and spent an hour wandering round the Colosseum wondering what we were looking at. Same thing at the Roman Forum where sadly they had run out of audioguides and there was a power cut so we couldnt even buy a guide book as the tills weren't working! Again we felt this was a wasted trip as we didnt know what we were looking at!
Anyway enjoy and be assured that your will be comfortable and catered for at the Minerva
Rome itself was lovely and nowhere near as expensive as I thought it would be. the T shirts in the markets are 5 euros each but most shope will sell you 3 for 10 euros so be prepared to haggle!
The area the apartment is in is not a tourist/picturesque area but we felt safe enough and it was very handy for connections and getting around, so all in all recommended! -

My wife and I with our 3 children (15,12,10) just spent 7 days in this wonderful apartment. First up the owners of this apartment both are equally passionate about Rome as they are about their apartment . We got a great run down on the area around the apartment which restaurant to use which ones to avoid. The apartment is on the fifth floor which is reached by a quaint lift - the kids had great time each time we returned to the apartment. The apartment is spacious and extremely well presented - We certainly had more than enough room.
The apartment has every appliance you could need including internet which is almost a must nowadays but very rarely found. It is centrally located with a 15 minute walk to the Colosseum and a 10 min walk to the nearest train station on line a. Which was great as we would head out in the morning head back to the apartment in the heat of the day grabbing some food from the supermarket just across the road.
We would recommend this apartment to anyone wanting a hassle free stay in Rome
Thanks Mary and Wolfango for making our stay so memorable and for the use of your wonderful apartment by far the best accomadtion in our 30 day trip

My biggest concern was safety and I have to say that we never felt unsafe while staying at Casa Minerva!! Mary Theresa and Wolfango made us feel at home the moment we arrived and they were so helpful throughout our stay - going above and beyond the call of duty. We had a lovely week's stay in this apartment located in a quiet(er), Rome neighborhood east of the Coliseum and not far from a university. The location is great - a 5 min walk to either of two metro stops, 10 minutes from the Termini rail station, far enough from the moped-heavy touristy areas, and set on a block with a trolly stop, large grocery store, small cafes and nearby atms. The apartment itself is spacious and cool in the summer, the beds comfortable, the bathroom large and modern, the kitchen well-equipped and sunny, and the wifi easily accessible. The hosts, Mary and Wolfgango(?) spent over an hour with us at check-in --and we arrived earlier than we/they expected -- providing tips on sightseeing, restaurants, practical travel matters, etc. The apartment has a cozy feel, but is not toddler/young-childproof (you'd have to discuss that), so I would say this a great choice for anyone with pre-teens or older.

We spent three nights in early June at Casa Minerva. The check-in was a little bit awkward in that our driver (shuttle service) did not speak English and upon arrival at the building housing Casa Minerva, he immediately took us and our bags up to a small hotel also located in the building. It took a while for us and the hotel owner to figure out we were in the wrong place but once he got a hold of Mary, things went smoothly.
Mary Therese and her husband could not have been more helpful. They gave us a complete tour of the unit showing us how to use the a/C and satellite TV and making sure we were comfortable. They also gave us a map and explained the public transportation.
The unit itself is very updated. Furnishings were nice, beds, linens, and pillows clean and comfortable, and the kitchen and washing machine very useful.
Location wise, it very convenient to public transportation which we used quite extensively. The area is not a tourist area and may be a little bit disappointing to some but we felt is was a good trade off for the relatively low price. We also gained about 5 pounds each at the gelato shop right across the street. Heavenly!
All in all, we would definately recommend and look forward to returning some day.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 06/28/2010

We went to Rome for a week at the end of May/beginning of June. We loved the apartment, Casa Minerva. Mary and Wolfango were very helpful and gave us lots of useful information during check-in such as bus routes, recommended restaurants, etc, and were available if we needed any assistance during our stay. We found the apartment to be conveniently located close to the metro and bus stops so that the tourist areas we wanted to visit were only a few minutes away. There is a supermarket across the road as well as 'Fassi's' ice cream parlour (delicious!). Our 8-year-old twin daughters really enjoyed this holiday and were able to cope with the walking. The children particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi bath at the end of each day! I would definitely recommend this apartment to families similar to ours; we found it much more convenient than a hotel, and more spacious and it was also quiet during the evenings so we all had plenty of sleep!

Our stay in Rome was very short, which in fact required a very favorable location. Casa Minerva is situated 5 min away from the a subway line that would take you to few key places: St. Peter's, Termini Station, the city center. It is in a 15 min walking distance from the Colosseum and the city center. Additionally, if you're not much of walker there's a bus stop right around the corner where you can catch a bus that would take you to the city center's shopping area in no time.
The information provided by the hosts is very helpful and would save a lot of time with its helpful tips.So take some time to go through all the booklets. Be careful with your personal belongings in the subways - there's a gang of four Gypsy women with a baby that are very well trained to spot distracted tourists. If you travel for more than 2 days by subway you will definitely encounter the group, so just watch out, especially before entering the subway. -

Houston, TexasFabulous Apartment & Owners; Location Has Pros & Cons
Left on 05/13/2010 for a stay in April 2010
The apartment owners were so helpful! Lots of great
email communication before the trip & a warm
welcome upon arrival. Due to volcano issues, one
woman (an inexperienced traveler) ended up alone in
Rome for almost a week, but Mary Therese and
Wolfgang checked in on her every day & helped her
find everything she needed. They could not have
been more attentive.
The apartment itself was amazing! It was spacious,
attractive, *quiet*, & extraordinarily well-
equipped. I say this with the experience of renting
2 more apts in Italy in the past 2 weeks (Florence
& Venice). The kitchen had every tool & pot
necessary, with lots of spices and seasonings to
boot. New appliances. 4 adults could sit
comfortably at the kitchen table.
We slept well on the firm beds. 2 pillows per
person, a great luxury in Italy. Tightly sealed
apt, helpful during rainy weather. Great storage
space too: bookcases and armoires with hanging
space and hangers. Fans, glorious fans, in every
single room. Great for cooling off and drying
clothes.
And the bathroom! It was large, with double sinks,
luxury shower head, & jacuzzi tub. A very
effective, quiet hair dryer & a heated curling
brush. Plenty of towels & even washcloths (!) for 4
women. There were well-lit mirrors located all over
the apt, so many women can do hair/makeup/etc at
once.
The location, though, had serious pros and cons.
Pros: grocery store (supermercato) and excellent
gelateria immediately across the street. Also, a
tram stops in front of the apartment and whisks you
down to Termini, the main train station. So if you
are unable or unwilling to do much walking, this is
a great option for you. Cons: not a pleasant
walking district! You cannot step outside your door
at night and take a pleasant stroll through
beautiful piazzas. You need to take public
transportation for 15 to 45 minutes to get that
experience. I found this quite frustrating, but the
3 older women didn't care. It all depends on your
priorities.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 05/16/2010

Thank you for the review, glad that you felt comfortable at our place. No, we are not in the central-most pedestrian zone of the city, we are closer to the Colosseum area, between that and the station, however there are many things to see in Rome and the zone is very safe, it may not have fabulous piazzas at every turn, but it has its charm. We offer a top quality apartment which is quite economical in comparison with many others, and you can save your money for more extras around town. The luxury of the apartment and its good services nearby more than make up for the fact that it is not in the heart of the downtown shopping district in a 1600's building with a rooftop garden, where you would pay three times as much, and one would have a hard time finding a supermarket, bus tickets, or anything needed other than souvenirs, this is an area where real people live and work and it is an excellently located spot for going around the city as it is close to many transport options and has convenient services for real life and transport to the heart of downtown only takes 20 minutes by bus or subway, not 45 minutes or 25-30 min by foot. I am sorry you were upset about our not being in the heart of downtown, unfortunately , we can't change our location at will....hope that the rest of your holiday will be more suited to your tastes.

Austin, TXExcellent Home-base for Exploring Rome
Left on 04/18/2010 for a stay in April 2010
First and foremost, Mary Therese and Wolfango are the most gracious hosts. The apartment is located within the city walls, but not in a trendy part of town. It's in what I perceived to be Rome's Chinatown. The immediate area is quite fine, but becomes a bit gritty if you walk toward Vittorio Emanuele, but make no mistake: we never felt unsafe. In fact, the more time I spent exploring Rome, the more I appreciated our choice of accommodation. So, unless you MUST stay in a trendy part of town, this is the best deal. The apartment is spacious, very affordable, clean, comfortable, and convenient. We took the Metro A from Via Manzoni to many of the key sites in Rome. We walked to the Colosseum on our first day -- it really is that close.
The apartment is full of amenities -- the whirlpool tub was wonderful at the end of each day. We didn't cook while we were there, but there is a full kitchen if you want to cook. We headed downstairs, turning left as we exited the building and had pastries and cappuccinos each morning at the corner, "bar." Also, the gelato across the street is indeed the best in town. We used the washer in the apartment during our visit which if you plan for it, makes packing light quite easy (not that I packed light... I wish I had!). I was worried about the absence of a dryer (they aren't big on dryers in Italy), but the efficiency washer in the apartment really spins most of the water out of clothes, so they dry very quickly.
It's not a luxury hotel, so you don't get plush towels or room service, but what you do get is to save your money to spend on fine dining, entrance fees to museums and cultural sites. You also get local friends in Mary and Wolfango who are willing to guide you during your visit to Rome.
Unless you can afford a four or five-star luxury hotel on Via Veneto, then I wholeheartedly recommend the Minerva Apartment for your visit to Rome as you can't beat the comfort and overall value.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 04/28/2010

Thank you very much for the review and so much for the very nice gift, we will always remember Texas and you because of it! I can say that the Esquilino neighborhood is the most safe neighbourhood of all of Rome, according to statistics, it may not be extremely pretty and trendy,it is a residential zone, but it has so many useful services and is easy to get around the city from here, by foot or transport. Thank you again, best wishes from Mary and Wolfango -

We were traveling as with a family of five and this apartment was perfect. The owners give you a detailed overview of the apartment and provide great recommendations for restaurants, bus lines, markets, etc. We ate at several of the places they recommended and were not disappointed. An added plus there is an awesome gelato place right outside the door---and a grocery as well!

We travel frequently to Italy, but have never enjoyed our stay more than our stay at Casa Minerva. It was the perfect size for four people and was extremely comfortable.
Some of the things we loved:
1. Having a kitchen.
2. The amazing bathroom.
3. The comfortable beds.
4. Having more space than a hotel room.
5. The close proximity to the metro and buses.
6. Mary and Wolfgang.
We were held up at JFK with plane problems. Mary Therese and Wolfgang waited HOURS for our arrival. They were helpful and very friendly. We will definitely stay in Casa Minerva again.

Wolfango even drive us to the train station when we left for airport very early in the morning!
The apartment itself is great, v. spacious, has all updated amentities, with WIFI, TV, full kitchen and great jacuzzi, after a day's walk in Rome's stone road, you will need that to save your feets and your body. It didn’t feel like staying in a perfect vacation rental, but rather as staying with family friends. The owners Mary Therese and Wolfango did their best to make it a warm, welcoming, comfortable place for us and our 7 months old daughter, and it worked very well for us. The apartment is very spacious and is well equipped, and I had to think of Wolfango every day and admire him as he not only designed but did/made everything by himself!!
I could have stayed in for weeks just reading through all those books and magazines on design, art and history but as we all know Rome has too much to offer so we naturally spent most of the time outside. The location of the apartment is very convenient too. Only a few minutes along the same street is the metro station Vittorio Emanuele, which made it a very easy commute, anywhere basically.
Mary Therese and Wolfango also gave us a lot of tips and suggestions which we found useful and appreciated, and special thanks go to Wolfango for informing us of the Caravaggio exhibition which we would have missed otherwise.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 03/11/2010

From the time we first made contact with Mary Therese our experience with Minerva Apartment was wonderful. She stayed in touch, answered all our e-mails quickly and made things as easy as she could.
We found the location great, 15 minutes stroll to the Coleseum and 15 minutes to Rome Termenii just so handy.
The facilites were wonderful - clean, comfortable and all encompassing, including free Wi-fi. The comfortable beds, the washing machine, well-equipped kitchen, etc made our stay a delight. We found the market (5 minutes away) a great experience, complemented by the comprehensive supermarket just across the road. We had easy access to everyting we could have needed.
And on top of all that, to be met by Mary and Wolfgango, and given a warm welcome and a full low-down on the apartment and on Roma was great. It really made the experience a home away from home in a beautiful and exciting city.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 02/07/2010

Left on 01/07/2010 for a stay in December 2009
Mary Therese and Wolfango take excellent care of their guests at this lovely, well-appointed 5th floor apartment, 7 minutes walk from the Manzoni metro station. They inundated us with useful information and suggestions for tours, shuttles and restaurants, all of which were excellent. The apartment itself was cozy and comfortable for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids, with all the amenities one would reasonably need or expect, including flat screen TV, washer and dryer, a fridge and kitchen stocked with some essentials and a bottle of wine to welcome us, which was a nice touch.
While the apartment is close to both bus routes and the metro, it's located in a seemingly safe but pretty drab and uninteresting neighbourhood which is a little off the beaten track, geographically, something we didn't really realize until our arrival.
Nonetheless, we had a really nice stay and would certainly highly recommend this apartment. Mary Therese and Wolfango go above and beyond to make their guests' stay enjoyable, too, which was both pleasant and unexpected.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 01/09/2010

Left on 11/19/2009 for a stay in November 2009
My wife and I stayed in the Central Minerva apartment for 5 days in November, and had a wonderful time - the owners couldn't have been more helpful and the apartment was very spacious with great facilities (up to 6 people could sleep there). Three TVs and a DVD player along with a reasonable stereo mean entertainment isn't a problem, but, to be honest, there's so much to see and do in Rome you won't want to spend too much time in the apartment. It's located about a 20 minute walk from the Colosseum but the bus/tram and metro services are pretty good. The only downside was some noise from the adjoining apartment, but this was limited and more than bearable. I'd thoroughly recommend the place to anyone!

The apartment is bright and sunny. It has air conditioning that is super good(by American

The beds are brand new and it is the first one I found that is as good as my own.
The bathroom is a modern joy. A real shower with good water pressure, and what could be

When we arrived at the Casa Minerva the owners were there to meet us and did such a great job showing us, and explaining everything we needed to know that there was no need to call them for anything.
The apartment itself was great, with two balconies, a nice size living room with a flat screen TV offering satellite channels. The kitchen was the perfect size for cooking and had everything we needed, including a dishwasher.
The bedroom was set up with all that we needed, but the best part was the bathroom with his and her sinks and a big tub that doubles as a jacuzzi.
Location was great, with a supermarket right across the street and walking distance to many sights; we walked to the Colosseum in 20 minutes. Once we had our Roma Pass we used the the tram and buses that stop in front of the building to get anywhere we needed to go.

The apartment has great access to the metro, tram, and bus service, but it's also an easy walk to the city center (the Colosseum is about a 15 minute walk). Being on the fifth floor (yes, there's a lift) meant that the apartment was quiet, and the new airconditioners keep us very comfortable. However, if you desire it is a short walk from the subway and a trolley stop is right outside the apartment. Casa Minerva has everything you could need. There is a washing machine, jacuzzi, and kitchen with a dish washer. The owners are lovely people that will do their best to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible.
The first chance I get I am going back and staying only at Casa Minerva.Response from Dott.ssa Mary Therese Burns , Property Manager - 05/25/2009

Last June my boyfriend and I went to Rome. We rented this vacation home in the city of Rome. The view of the city is amazing. This place has the train station near by. The master bedroom has a lot of space and comfort. It has doors that lead to a balcony with a choice of leaving them open for air or closing to keep the noise of the street out. The other bedroom is great for other people to stay in or a possible living room. The bathroom has a big tub that massages your troubles away. The kitchen is an eat in kitchen that my boyfriend and I ate at least two meals and day that we cooked ourselves. So it is more affordable to eat in than dining out at some of the fancy restaurants in Rome. When we were there we didn't have to worry about laundry service because there is a washer there. If I were to go back to Rome in the near future I would definitely love to stay there again.

We were very well surprised of this apartment. It was the best rental home I was ever been! Absolutely new and clean. There are 2 bedrooms (first for 2 people, second for 3-4 people and 1 bed in the hall) but 6 people is maximum because of only 1 bathroom.
Very pleasant was also to find basic food in the kitchen ( meaning oil, coffee, cereals, spices etc.), soap and shampoo in the bathroom and the map of the city.
The house is on main street but there is no problems with a noise of the street in the flat. The location is also very advantageous, 3 minutes to the metro station and 15 min on foot to the Coliseum.
Both owners are very nice and respectable people speaking English. I can definitely recommend this apartment.
