London, United KingdomLovely apartment, 'ok' location
Left on 05/10/2013 for a stay in May 2013
Firstly, looking at some of the other reviews on here I don't think everyone is reviewing the Coliseum 2 (maybe one of retromes other apartments?) so that's one to watch. We stayed one night in this apartment as unfortunately our booking was mucked up and so we had to move for the last night - Retrome handled this impeccably, and I would say that all contact with a number of their staff was fantastic - as first time visitors to the city I am so glad I booked with them - helpful, friendly, and efficient.
The apartment itself is lovely. very clean, obviously newly renovated, great retro features (the lift is amazing!), just doors for the b&b; so an easy check in, and close by if you need to leave luggage etc. The only down sides are the location - really close to the Colosseum, but after staying in Monti for the 3 previous nights it just didn't feel as nice - less nice local streets/restaurants/cafes. Felt safer and more relaxed in Monti for sure - buts that's not to say it was bad - we were just very lucky in Monti! Also its noisey being near the main road round the Colosseum - I quite liked it and felt like you were right in the thick of it - but if you are a light sleeper or bothered by noise it may not be for you.
All in all I would recommend. -

SingaporeVery comfortable stay in excellent location

Very quiet location and only few minutes walk to Colosseum and Metro station or easy stroll to local market and Carrefour Express for groceries and transport. Beds was very firm and sofa quite uncomfortable to sit on or, sleep. Lots of storage space in bedroom. Wifi was excellent. Full equipped kitchen had all essential utensils and even had the cupboards stocked with basics. Angela (operator) came out to greet us on arrival and as we had arrived late, she had even briefed us where to go in shortest time and best route, this is handy especially we have really tight schedule. Not to mention that there is laundry facilities in the apartment. Good facilities in apartment. We were able to enjoy a very relaxing fortnight stay where we could come and go with ease.

New HavenI couldn't ask for a better stay in Rome. Thanks for helping us

The apartment is romantic, in a great location and has everything a couple needs when visiting Rome. Trastevere is fun, young and our place was a few minutes away from the heart of Rome, so we got to enjoy the best of both worlds. The way we were treated and welcomed by the staff was exceptional, and made us want to stay more.
Overall, a memorable experience! -

Sacramento, CALiked the location but the apartment didn't work well for me.
Left on 11/08/2011 for a stay in April 2011
I loved staying in Trastevere! A great location providing easy access to the major sites of Rome. I was less thrilled by the apartment because it is someone's home. I personally do not feel comfortable staying in a space that so obviously another's beloved space. Also, the apartment was not clean enough for my standards and the kitchen facilities allowed one to make coffee, only. I like to cook some meals so I would not recommend this property for anyone who wants a functional kitchen.

Edinburgh, United KingdomCharacterful oasis in Rome
Left on 10/20/2011 for a stay in October 2011
Plus points:
I loved this apartment. It has a quirky, romantic, historical feel to it – I think the owner may have been an artist. It certainly felt like staying in a home, rather than in a rental apartment. Special details include the plant filled bathroom, and the kitchen hob inside a sideboard!
The apartment is in Trastevere – which we found to be our favourite neighbourhood in Rome. Its full of nice bars, restaurants and beautiful piazzas, but its off the main tourist drag… so its a nice place to come back to after a hard days sightseeing!
Noise-wise the apartment was pretty quiet during the day – but louder at night as it is off a busy part of Trastevere – where there are lots of bars and restaurants and outdoor nightlife.
Downsides:
There was no outdoor space – so bear that in mind if a balcony or terrace is important to you.
There is no internet access (though you can pick it up from Bar Della Malva in the small square near the apartment)
The owner spoke no English and I spoke no Italian – so some multilingual instructions left in the apartment as to how to use the washing machine, order a taxi etc would have been helpful for us (this isn't a criticism, just a tip as to how to make the apartment even better!)
For example the washing machine was unusable as when we arrived it was full of stuff which didn't belong to us, it was an unusual toploading design, and no instructions were left as to how to use it.
Also it would be helpful if the apartment number was indicated on the outside door buzzer and on the arrival instructions – as we were just given a street number, but no apartment number – so we didn't know which apartment to buzz when we first arrived!
We paid RetRome 25 euros for a 'Romantic Welcome' pack – this presumably meant a bottle of wine on arrival or something – but there was some kind of mix-up and this wasn't left in the apartment. (RetRome have offered to refund us for this, but it's a shame it wasn't left in the first place as we were looking forward to it!)
However – I should stress the downsides do not outweigh the plus points. Overall we were really glad we booked this apartment. The owner Carla was nice and friendly. Rome is a busy and hectic city and the apartment really was an oasis of calm in the middle of it. So I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in Rome. -

Would definitley stay again. Lovely apartment central to everything as all sites with walking distance. Great pizza about 50 yards ways, plenty of restaurants and you must visit the church of Santa Maria which is just up the road.
Carla the owner of the apartment was very helpful, even though we were 3 hours late as the transport we had booked via the Retrome website did not show.
I contacted Retrome and they just told us to get a taxi, which we did. The taxi then tried to charge us 50 euros!!! This was the only time we felt ripped off the whole trip so beware, so I would advise against booking your transfer with which ever the Retrome sight recommends because apparently this has happend before and I am still waiting for my deposit back. (This would not stop me booking this apartment).
4 euros each will get you from the airport to the termini by bus. A taxi from there is 15 euros to the aprtment. There are buses to and from Trastevere I think its "H' and only costs 1 euro. The tourist info is only 10 minutes away and they were really helpful.
Finally, the Spanish Steps were a bit dissapointing and don't go St Peter's basilica on Wednesday morning because it is shut until 1pm while the Pope is addressing the square. Apart from that totally fab, can't wait to go back -

MechelenWhen you look for a romantic place in Rome - this is the place
Left on 06/17/2010 for a stay in June 2010
This is the perfect home base for your visit to Rome whether you’re there for a few days or an extended stay. It’s a spacious, elegant apartment that juxtaposes the latest amenities with Roman charm. Furnished with an eclectic mix of modern and antiques, the feel is gracious and comfortable. The kitchen is nice, but we did not use it much as there are excellent restaurants in the area. The subway and buses are convenient and everything—shopping, restaurants, etc.—is within walking distance. The owner is nice to work with. He gave us excellent tips about where to dine and to shop, and let us feel at home. You will love this place!

Left on 05/27/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We had a great service on arrival with helpful advice on Rome (and some perfect local restaurants in the area!!). The apartment was perfect for us and was accurately portrayed on the website. The location was brilliant in a very good and central location .We walked everywhere never using any form of transport for the 4 days we were in Rome . The apartment was well equipped and really romantic. Highly recommend this apartment. Loved it!
