The Vatican has been the residence of the Popes only since 1377. The Vatican has been an Independent state called The Vatican City since February 11, 1929. Michelangeloβs impressive silver-blue dome dominates the scenery, blending into the sky above. Itβs always breathtaking to see the beauty of this magnificent site. Itβs a middle class residential area full of souvenir shops, espresso bars and rustic restaurants. Even though attracts many tourists St Peter/Vatican, itβs still a quiet, settled peaceful area to come and visit.

Left on 03/04/2013 for a stay in May 2012
Stayed here 4 nights in early may with family ( 5 persons). We liked it very much because it had good amenities , very good location and a good price. Booking was very easy also.
The only thing I was a bit worried about was the noise level because I read earlier reviews. Being a very light sleeper , I went prepared :) with good earplugs and it was enough for me to help me sleep without problems. Also being very tired after walking and visiting all day long, helped me sleep without problems:).
My companions though had no problem at all and slept very good even if for me it would have been a bit too noisy. So I guess it depends on the type of person, and one should know if he or she has issues with noise and always take good earplugs when going on a trip in a big and busy city ( or any other unknown place ;) ).Response from The Key To Italy - 04/30/2013

Thanks for sharing your suggestions and wise words (what to expect and how to manage unwanted noise levels are a hot topic when renting an apartment in Rime and your tips should be in a guide book...).
We hope to see you soon again in Italy. All the best. Francesca -

All my mother-in-law wanted for her 80th birthday was to go to Rome and see the Pope. So we rented the apartment Michelangelo and it was the perfect location for our trip. It was a nice 2 bedroom apartment in a residential with an elevator. The location couldn't have been any better; it was literally 2 blocks from the entrance to the Vatican Museum and a few more blocks to the Vatican itself. Having an apartment was much nicer than being in a hotel. There was a large indoor market a few blocks away which was great for buying food.

Perfect location, wonderful accommodation, lovely host. I could not fault anything about Michelangelo apartment.
Close enough to Vatican - St. Peter and most of the Rome breathtaking attractions to enjoy all it has to offer. The apartment was like a home away from home. Beautiful and tasteful decor and all mod cons, including furniture and WiFi. The apartment was kept spotless and Giovanni went out of his way to be helpful.
Would not stay anywhere else in the Rome region - highly, highly recommended.

We just stayed at the apartment Michaelangelo last week and it was fantastic. We had 2 couples and the apartment was very roomy, clean and very well equipped for laundry, cooking etc.
We enjoyed sitting in the living room with our wine and opening the windows to the street below. There were plenty of restaurants and shops right within walking distance and the neighborhood was active and friendly. We would definitely recommend this property and will stay again if we visit Rome in the future.Response from The Key To Italy - 06/21/2012

Our family of five stayed in this apartment for 4 nights and we absolutely enjoyed it. It is very clean and comfortable with lots of modern Ikea furnishings. The kitchen was well maintained and we were able to enjoy family meals in the apartment. There is a wonderful market a block away in which you can get fresh produce from many vendors, as well as many restaurants in the area.
Close to the Metro stop and to the Vatican, and super safe to walk at night. Service was friendly and with no problems at all.
The only issue is the noise from the street which may be a problem for people who are not used to that.Response from The Key To Italy - 03/27/2012

The apt. is centrally located but on a busy street so street noises are unavoidable during the night. Large comfortable apt. approx 80 sq metres. Right across the street from Osteria delle Commari, one of the Top 10 rated restaurants in Rome. Well worth a visit but suggest you reserve as it is not large.

Our experience in Rome was wonderful. The management company for this apartment was excellent. They were great communicators, check in was a breeze. Couldn't have asked for better service! The apartment was very clean and comfortable. It was in an excellent location and accessible to everything we wanted to see during our weekend long vacation. The apartment was located on a busy street so it was a bit noisy but didn't seem to impact our sleep. The shower was clogged during our stay and the air conditioning was a little inadequate. Although there were these couple of small negatives, it was a great trip, very nice apartment and we would definitely recommend apartment Michelangelo!

The apartment was very nicely furnished. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Apartment was just next to the Vatican city and very close to the train subway. The only downside of it was that since the apartment is in an old building and in a very busy street it was quite noisy at night and cars could be heard passing by. Other than that everything was perfect.

This apartment exactly met our needs particularly in its location. The train is 5 minutes walk and the train service excellent. It is an extremely easy walk to the Vatican from the apartment. There are many local restaurants, a large food market and local clothes markets nearby. Service was very good and when the TV needed adjusting, someone came quickly to assist. The apartment is on an interesting street and the only thing lacking is a verandah to sit out on and watch the passers-by.

The apartment was beautifully clean and comfortable and came complete with air conditioning! Could not have been better.
The kitchen was fully fitted including dishwasher and washing machine. The apartment had two very comfortable double beds and a full range of furnture, crockery, cutlery, utensils, cooking pots and pans.
The apartment was available immediately in the morning when we arrived from the airport and was available until we left for the airport around 7pm at no extra cost.
It is situated very near to the Vatican. Short walk for sightseeing the Sistine Chapel, st. Peters and other Vatican museums. Easy access to the Metro to visit all other parts of Rome, such as the Colluseum, the Cappuchin Monks catacombs etc.
The road outside can be noisy but this died down at around 11pm every night and was very quiet in the early hours, 2am-3am. Also closing the shutters and windows minimised noise so levels were definetely not a disturbance.
Enjoyed the additional privacy and space of the apartment, especially after a busy day sightseeing. Bought produce locally for breakfast at very reasonable rates and there are various cafes and restaurants within a few minutes walking for an evening meal. The Vatican is illuminated at night and is beautiful.Response from The Key To Italy - 07/03/2011

We are a family of 5 with 3 older children. This was a very comfortable apartment in a great location. Being near the vatican it is very noisy day and night. The positive to that was that I could nip back to the apartment to go the toilet and pick up extra snacks when the que to enter the vatican was stopped for some reason!!!
The booking and check in service was easy even though we arrived several hours later than had been expected.
I would recommend it for a few nights but if you have problems sleeping with a lot of traffic noise maybe find a different place.
There are lots of stairs so not good for people who are less mobile. -

This appartment was great! Everything as advertized. Would take it any time in the future. The only drawback is that it is a bit noisy as both sleeping rooms are on the street side of the building and only having single glazed windows.
Nevertheless it is worth every Euro and the agency "The key to Italy" did a great job both before arrival and during first meeting in the apartment. -

Left on 05/06/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Stayed for 4 nights in May 2011. The check in was good, the agency were good from start to finish. The apartment is very spacious, but could definitely benefit from another bathroom, or at least a toilet - there's plenty of room for one. We were very disappointed to find one of the bedrooms had only a bed, a lamp and a bedside table - no drawers or wardrobes - nowhere to put our clothes, so we all had to share the wardrobes in the bigger bedroom which was a bit inconvenient. The apartment wasn't very clean - I walked around in bare feet in the morning and within 5 minutes they were black! And because it's an apartment it is only cleaned once in the 5 day/4 night stay, which meant we had to clean the bathroom and floors ourselves and didn't have a change of bath towel.
The worst thing about it was the road outside - we did so much travelling around the city by bus and never came across a busier road in Rome! The vehicles are constantly in gridlock and show their frustration by holding down their horn - even in the night! Even worse, the windows in the apartment are old and single paned and there is no difference in sound from the road with the windows open or closed!! We all bought earplugs the second night from the chemist opposite as we didn't sleep on the first night at all.
Positives - nice spacious modern kitchen, good hot shower and the beds were comfortable when we did get to sleep. The market other reviewers have mentioned is fantastic! Especially if you want to cook your own meals - go there and stock up. Two supermarkets within 2 minutes walk. Lots of buses around (492 to Piazza Navona area, and 23 to Trastevere for evening meals from Via Leone - 1 minute walk).
For the cost of this apartment it's possible to find something better and next time I'd stay a little further out on a good bus route. Yes it's near the Vatican and St. Peter's, but that's only good for one day, and you'll have to travel every other day to get to the other sights. Also whereas there are some nice restaurants around the area if you look hard, it's not a patch on Trastevere or the streets around Campo dei Fiori for atmosphere.
I'd have given this apartment 4 stars if it was cleaner, the windows had sound proof screening, and the second bedroom had at least a rail or cheap set of drawers to put clothes - but it's badly let down by these three things.Response from The Key To Italy - 05/11/2011
Manager
Hi Klare,
we always feel bad when we hear about troubles from our clients and this bitter-sweet review hurts a little.
Just to recap: I understand you are happy with our service as an agency, with the apartment being spacious, you loved the kitchen, beds and shower and enjoyed the area and markets nearby, instead your major complaints are about apartment cleaning, noise and drawers.
About cleaning: we rely on a professional agency to clean our apartments (it's not home-made cleaning by the owner), they are very skilled and well equipped and we have always had positive feedbacks as you can see from previous reviews. I don't know what went wrong in your case (errors happens sometimes), but certainly we didn't have a chance to verify and repair: in general if something is wrong, first thing to do should be to inform the agency/owner while you are still in the place (and not when you are back home because we can't help you anymore). We are very responsive (email or phone) and we could have sent the cleaning guys to check and do a second in-depth cleaning... :(
About noise, the owner has just changed the windows 4 months ago and made them double glazed, so I'd say the apartment is not noisy at all, of course Rome is a big and trafficked city, so also expectations play a role here.
You also said "The apartment is very spacious, but could definitely benefit from another bathroom..." (!!) we fully agree but this accommodation only has 1 bathroom and this is how we have always advertised it, adding a bathroom is not something we can accommodate overnight, if a second bathroom was a strong need you should have discarded Michelangelo during the booking process...
We appreciate your feedback, we will be discussing it with the owner and the cleaning company and take fixes and precautions to further improve our service and accommodation.
Please let me know if there is anything else we can do for you.
thanks

We stayed here in October 2010. Everything worked out very smoothly.
The apartment was very clean, the kitchen looked almost brand new with brand new appliances. the apartment was on the third floor which is a bit of a hike up the stairs, however there is also an elevator so it is not a problem.
The apartment was just around the corner from teh Vatican and about a 5 minute walk to St. Peter's Basilica, which made things very easy if you want to see the vatican.
There were also numerous shops, cafes and restaurants near the apartment so everything is very close.
The apartment did not have wireless internet, however there is a place just around the corner where internet acess is exceptionally cheap. -

We arrived to Rome on October 8th, 2010 from the cruise. Even though the check-in time is 2pm, Giovanni was nice enough to let us in in the morning by 10am ( apartment was available). We loved the location, 5 minutes from Vatican and just few minutes from the farm market that we enjoyed immensly. The apartment was perfect for 2 families ( party of 4). Everything was great, the only suggestion I have is to add 2 more high chairs in the kitchen, this way people can eat there instead of brnging the food to the living room. We did enjoy eating dinner in the living room in the evening with windows wide open. however in the morning when we were in a hurry to leave and explore Rome, we would prefer something more casual, like the quick breakfast in the kitchen. This is just a suggestion and in no way it changed our opinion about the apartment and services provided by the Key to Italy. Thank you, see you in Rome

I highly recommend this apartment from both the location, it was a block away from the vatican, as well as the apartment itself. It was a lovely 2 bedroom. There was a great market just a couple of bloack away. The air conditioning worked marvelously. It was clean and it great condition. Giovanni was a great help. He helped us arrange transport from the airport and was there waiting with the key. We had an unexpected guest and they were able to accomodate her. Look at pictures on line. There are extremely accurate. The only slight downside was that because the apartment is in the hub of activity it is a bit noisy.

Comfortable, modern, well mantained and clean (which
was very important with us). The apartment is located
on via Canddia which is a busy street in the vatican

on the go or restaurants. Location was ok, Vatican is
not as central as Spanish Steps but with a 15 min

This apartment is well maintained, spacious and big enough for 5 people. We had there a comfortable stay with 2 adults and 3 little children over Easter weekend.
The walls of the Vatican are just around the corner. St.Peter's square and Vatican Museums - 2 minutes walk, Castel Sant'Angelo - 5. The other sightseeings on the other side of the river you can also reach by foot or use the public transport, which is very good there.
The only one thing I didn't like a little bit about this apartment were the old windows, which let some wind and noise from the street. It wasn't a big problem, because, busy during the day the street was pretty quite in the night.
The work of the agency, represented by Giovanni, was excellent: quick respond very reliable and punctual.
In total I was very pleased with the accommodation and would recommend it further, especially to the people, who would like to spend more time in Vatican. -

Apartment is just as pictured, new and very clean.
Beds are comfortable. Bathroom clean.
Location is supercental if you are interested in
the Vatican Area and Castel Sant'Angeolo area, it's
also very very easy to get to Spanish steps and
Trevi fountain by underground.
Campo Fiori and Navona area were a little more of a
trouble at the beginning until we got accustomed
with buses and public transportation, so my advise
is to ask on your arrival how to get around by bus
(underground is straightforward, there is a stop
just next to the apartment). Buses are close at
hand and a taxi is easy to get.
Our choice proved to be excellent and I would
indeed do it all again.
The Key to Italy (Giovanni) has been very kind and
easy to work with both at time of booking and on
arrival/checkin. -

clean, and comfortable. Beds are comfortable,
kitchen is fully equipped with all amenities,
living room and tv and stereo were all we needed to
chill out after a long day of walking.
Metro station is very close and convenient if you
want to quickly reach Spanish Steps or Trevi
Fountain area without walking too long. We usually
walked in the morning to top spots (and often got
lost which was great as well) and got back on
public transportation at night when coming back.
Overall a very positive experience. The agency was
very helpful and easy to work with.
