Additional Location Information
The apartment is situated in upper middle class family oriented neighborhood on a very quiet street that borders the river. As one looks out from the balconies and windows of the apartment, one sees the park-like area surrounding the river rather than looking into a high rise building across the street. There is a bicycle/pedestrian walkway alongside the river that extends for a couple of miles and contains benches and children's playground for the use of neighborhood residents. Within 2 or 3 blocks from the apartment, there are available all the amenities one would possibly need during a short term rental. These include, supermarkets, street markets, banks, post office, bakeries, department stores, boutiques, pharmacies, laundromats and cleaners, bars and many restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias.
There are multiple bus lines operating less than 2 blocks distant that go into the center of Rome. several of these buses are express buses and the Metro that make minimal stops between the apartment and the center. These buses are readily accessible reasonable and operate both day and night every 5 minutes or so. Once one is in the center of Rome the city is easily explored on foot.

Very comfortable, ideally located apartment
This is our fourth stay in this apartment, which attests to our satisfaction with the apartment, its environs in Monte Sacro, and the ease with which one can use local transportation to most any place in Rome. It gives us much pleasure to stay in very comfortable accommodations, shop locally away from "touristy" areas, and participate in the daily life of a vibrant suburban community. As in the past, we were met by Marilee upon our arrival and received excellent suggestions pertaining to our visit. We hope to return again.
Lovely Via Veneto apartment
Thank you, John & daughter, Marilee, for the opportunity to stay in your lovely Rome apt. Marilee - you were a tremendous asset in getting me acquainted with my neighborhood, where to eat/shop/catch the bus/metro, getting my bearings & other things a renter would need to know. The apt. was fully stocked with all I could need. Everything was nice & in good condition; the whole place was well-thought-out - just as the photos showed. If/when I come to Rome again, I would definitely stay here, and have already recommended the apt. to others considering a trip to Rome. Thank you!
Wonderful apartment in a Residential Rome Neighborhood
The apartment amenities were great for our group of 4 adults. The kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom were the largest we experienced of the 5 apartments we rented on our 3 week trip throughout Italy. We were able to save money on food by shopping in the neighborhood for groceries and cooking in the kitchen that had everything we needed. The elevator was small but we really found it helpful for getting our bags up to the apartment. The short commute into the city might not be for everyone, but it certainly worked out well for us. The cost was very reasonable and both the owner and his daughter answered our questions before and during our stay. The daughter of the owner met us upon arrival and gave us an orientation on the neighborhood.

Quiet, convenient and private apartment just outside Roma center
I greatly enjoyed staying in this apartment last week. I travel extensively and always prefer to stay in apartments versus hotels for the exact amenities which this one offers: a private residence, plenty of space to unpack and feel like you are at home while on vacation or working on the road, a very well-equipped kitchen, and extremely pleasant hosts. John was very nice and informative on the phone, via email and regular mail, and Marilee was kind enough to meet me at the train station (which is literally 1 block from the apartment) and give a thorough tour of the apartment and helpful details about the area. There is a fantastic open market on Saturdays and Mondays just a short walk through the park and a big grocery store 2 blocks from there (a total of 5 minutes walking). The little pull cart was a blessing! I hardly used the air conditioning at all, as the 5th floor breeze was very nice both during the day and in the evening, and the balconies are a great bonus! There is great water pressure throughout the apartment (which you often do not find in European apartments) and endless hot water. The WiFi worked very well for those times when you need to connect to the "real world", and there is an extensive selection of VHS movies if you have a rainy afternoon and just want to relax on the very comfortable living room sofa. The neighborhood is very quiet at night and it was enjoyable to hear the children playing soccer in the park during the day - especially the day they were simulating the Itay v Spain match to be held that night! I did not have a chance to visit the gelato place right next to the park, but I hear that it is amazing - next time :)
Thank you to my hosts and I look forward to the next visit!
We had a wonderful week visiting all the historic sites of Rome.
The apartment is located in a middle class suburb. It is one block from the airport train station service and easy walking distance to transit services to downtown Rome.It took approximately 30 minutes to get downtown, depending on the timing of the bus arrival and traffic. This transportation was convenient. We did not have to rent a car. Our visit to Rome was to see its history. We spent our week viewing all the sites with excellent tour guides, whose tour company was referred to us by the owner. The apartment is very comfortable. A selection of grocery stores and local restaurants are close by.

Monte Sacro residence
We stayed at the Monte Sacro residence for six nights in December 2012. The place is clean, well-preserved, and within an easy connection from Rome's Fiumicino International airport. There are some excellent restaurants and groceries stores within just a few minutes walking. We would definitely recommend the apartment to budget-minded travelers as well as those who would not mind using public transportation to get to downtown Rome and its vicinity; it takes about 30-40 minutes to reach the center of the city either by bus or by subway. Also, without stating the obvious, the apartment is in an apartment building, and with that come occasional noises at night, or neighbors getting to go about their business at five or six in the morning. Overall, we liked the residence and would highly recommend it to others planning their visit to Rome.

The apartment, the sights, the neighbourhood and the locals, all
The apartment was more comfortable and more beautiful than the pictures. Marilee met our cab(and made sure we were not paying too much)at the apartment and gave us a great briefing on the area, the buses (which one stopped right across the road from the apartment and a few blocks up the street to the main road there where stops for many more buses)and some of the main attractions. Thank you Marilee. Wished we had more time to enjoy the apartment and explore the neighbourhood. What we did experience in the area was all positive. The open air market was great for fresh and prepared foods and staples. We were able to get a great cappuccinos at a cafe just a block from the apartment and it only cost one euro fifty, half the price of the ones in the old city. Fabulous bakery a few blocks up the street and a great restaurant just around the corner but be prepared...they don't speak any English but the food was fab and the prices were great! I'm looking forward to a much longer return visit and will hopefully be able to rent this apartment again. John was a pleasure to rent from. He made everything simple and straight forward and kept in contact through the whole process. Thank you John for making the process stress free. We loved the apartment if I haven't already made that clear.
Enjoy Rome away from all of the other tourist in a quiet neighbo
We arrived at the apartment with Marilee there to greet us. She was very informative on the various appliances in the apartment, how to access the bus route, the metro, and the train, recommended restaraunts in the area, places to grocery shop, sightseeing tours, etc.. All of this information was also provided on a neighborhood map, as well as a city map. We were given Marilee's phone number should we think of anything eles we might need or be interested in. The apartment was very clean and attractive. Everything we needed was available in the apartment or close by within easy walking distance. What we enjoyesd the most was a quiet neighborhood and a large park across the street for a wonderful view from the two balconies. Also everything we wanted or needed was within walking distance.

Great place to stay
Residence Monte Sacro was perfect for me and my wife. The location provided a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown Rome. The apartment had all the amenities we needed and then some and was a short walk to the closest Metro stop. Marilee was invaluable it helping us to get our bearings upon arrival and provided us with all the information we needed as far as transportation, local restaurants and food stores. I would highly recommend this apartment for a stay in Rome.
Our stay in a "real" Rome neighbourhood offered us an authentic perspective. The bus to city centre was very easy to catch and only a 20-minute ride. The apartment was clean and spacious and offered us all the comforts we needed. A thoughtfully appointed kitchen provided everything we needed for our meals. Shopping was close by and easy, and the local street market was a lot of fun. Most importantly, Marilee is close by and answered all our questions, making us feel very welcome and well cared for.

Perfect for our Needs
My brother and I are Catholic priests who studied in Rome and wanted to reacquaint ourselves with the city. This apartment was perfect for our needs. It is centrally located and very convenient to all modes of transportation as well as to groceries and markets. The apartment was sparkling clean and very spacious. We especially appreciated having the kitchen to prepare breakfasts and late dinners.
Mr. Mortarotti and his daughter Marilee couldn't have been more efficient and pleasant to deal with.
We would definitely rent the apartment again and would arrange our next trip to Rome to meet its availability. We can recommend it highly.
Fantastic Christmas and New Year's Eve in Rome!
Our 9 days in Rome and the apartment could not have been more perfect. It is beautiful- in fact much nicer than pictured or expected. It is spacious and clean, with a lovely bathroom and unlimited hot water. The residential neighborhood is only 15-20 minutes by bus to the city center and sights, with some wonderful restaurants, bakeries, weekend open-air market, wine bar, etc. Bus stops are literally across the street and take about 20 minutes to the city center where you can walk to the Ruins, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, etc. The train for 8 euros to the airport is also literally around the corner so no need for an expensive cab or shuttle. Marilee met us on arrival and oriented us beautifully. She even had the apartment decorated for Christmas. We had lunch on Christmas Day at Nero di Seppia, close by, and loved it so much we went back for New Year's Eve. There is a great wood fired pizza place also nearby and a delicious bakery on the same street. We had no trouble taking the city bus everywhere- Vatican, Borghese Gallery, etc., and took 2 day trips on the train (from Rome Termini Station) to Florence and Pompeii, and it was great to return after a long day trip to the comfort of the apartment. The city was decorated everywhere for the holidays, and though cold, we had crisp, clear weather and no crowds! Some americans might be put off at first by the graffiti on the outside of the buildings in the neighborhood, but, rest assured, that is normal all over Rome, this is a very nice area and the apartment's building is gorgeous, with marble tile throughout, and elevator. The apartment has 2 balconies with a view of the river and park and we watched the fireworks all over Rome for hours on New Years Eve. If you want to live like a local in a beautiful apartment, short ride to town each day and eat in a Roman neighborhood with the locals, this place is for you! We will most definitely return, and hope to stay even longer! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
A respite from the chaos of central Rome.
A very lovely apartment in a peaceful neighborhood away from the noise and chaos of the center of Rome. Very clean, comfortable, nicely furnished and felt like home. Kitchen had everything necessary to prepare meals. Supermarket and train station within walking distance. WiFi a real plus.

Great Value for the Weary Tourist
My fiancee and I had a wonderful time staying in this apartment flat in Rome. It was comfortable, quiet, and well equipped. We had everything we needed for our stay - full service kitchen, ample space for bags, laundromat close by, and a farmers market within walking distance.
We were shown in to the space by the owner's daughter who spoke impeccable English. She gave us maps of the area, ideas for how to get around town, and suggestions for how to make the most of our stay. Since the owner had supplied us with a phone card prior to our trip and communicated with his daughter about our arrival time, everything went very smoothly with check-in.
The beds were comfortable. And the view of the large open space across the street was a pleasant departure from the sprawl of the city. We were on the 5th floor I think. High up for sure. The flat was a little ways from the key sights, so for someone that wants to do everything by foot, this may not be the place for them. However, with our weekly bus passes we were fine and got around the city with very little trouble. (Missed a late night bus one night, so we had to take a taxi home then. Couldn't find the late night stops!!) Finding a good bus map of the city was a challenge - no reflection on this rental, just a nuisance for getting around town at times.
The VCR stopped working while we were there. Didn't like the reverse function I guess. Apart from that though, everything else worked just fine. The breakfast nook was nice and the round dining room table in the living room area was a good place to eat and strategize the following day's activities.
When we return to Rome, we will definitely look this place up again. Great value and a nice quiet place to call home for a short while.

Will stay again and highly recommend to friends
We enjoyed our stay at the apartment very much. Excellent location with easy transportation to sightseeing places, train station and airport, and good transportation instructions are provided.. Apartment is as shown, and check-in/out is convenient. Nearby restaurants, shops and laundry are convenient. Will stay again and highly recommend to friends

"This spacious, accurately described, apartment exceeded our expectations in comfort and amenities. The owner's daughter met us at the train station, walked with us the two blocks to the apartment, and gave us an excellent introduction to it and the local area. (During our stay, she was available by phone to answer any questions we had.) Easy bus access to the center of Rome allows the best of both worlds--participating in the everyday life of Romans as well as seeing tourist sites. Shopping at the open-air market, bakery, butcher and other small, individual shops was a delight. The well-appointed kitchen made it very easy to then prepare our meals. There are also some very good restaurants in the area."
Everything exactly as promised
This apartment was exactly as described. Roomy and clean it was also very quiet. It was also the most organized of any place we stayed in Europe. Host's daughter provides a book with maps, restaurant recs in the area, bus stops marked, etc. There are even books on Rome to read. We used the kitched for dinner one night after buying food at the local market. This aparment is about 10-15 min by bus from Termini station. You can't get there on metro, but the busses run often and late into the evening.
I would highly recommend this apartment for anyone who doesn't need to be in the heart of the city and looking for a comfortable place to rest after a long day of sightseeing. Only downside was that the beds were a little hard for me and my Sister who are used to softer beds, but my teenage niece didn't notice at all.
Two of the most enjoyable and comfortable weeks in Rome.
My husband and I, accompanied by a very good friend, spent two very comfortable weeks at Residence Sacro Monte. The apartment is very clean, well-appointed, spacious and conveniently located. The kitchen is well-equipped and closet space for all of was quite ample. We did not have a car and found that the nearby public transportation was great. There is one bus stop directly across the street, the train station is around the corner and another bus stop for several routes is two short blocks away. Grocery stores, banks, post office and the daily farmers' market is within a couple of blocks as well. Mr. Mortarotti provided essential information prior to our trip as well as printed information at the apartment. We were met by his daughter upon arriving at the apartment and she was available to us during our stay if we needed help.
Information and contacts were also made available for tour guides, etc. We are hoping to rent this apartment again in the near future. tt's a fabulous find.

An Excellent Stay in Rome
A very restful location; nothing noisy in the area. Very good kitchen facilities in the unit. Excellent shopping nearby for food stuffs. Public transportation very close by. One must be sure to look at the maps in the apartment in order to learn how to navigate the city. I had a thoroughly great time.

The trip to Rome was great and so were the accomodations.
The apartment was great. It was clean and comfortable. It is within walking distance of the rail station and bus stop. The owners rep met us at the train station and walked us to the apartment, spent probably 45 minutes with us going over things and gave us suggestions on transit into Rome and restaurants and shops. We greatly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely rent this apartment again. The location is very convenient and it is a good value!!! I have already recommended this place to 2 of my friends.
This apartment was very nice and reasonably priced. It has all the conveniences of home in a very safe and nice Italian neighborhood. It's location is very convenient to buses and the train to the airport. The buses run every 5 minutes or so and its roughly a 15 minute ride to Termini station which is the center of Rome. I would recommend this apartment if you are planning a vacation in Rome. The owner left an abundance of excellent information about finding things in the neighborhood and getting around Rome. Our stay was wonderful.

This was our first trip to Rome. John's apartment and his daughter's (manager) help in getting around made our trip most pleasurable. The apartment was fully equipped and the neighborhood was most delightful. Almost daily we utilized the fresh produce market in the neighborhood which was most friendly. There were many restaurants in the neighborhood also, some of which we frequented. Public transportation was also very easy to use and we were able to access the entire city during the day and return to a pleasant apartment.
We would return in a heart beat. Jim and Joan Robin

Felt like home
The apt. had every convenience one could want: One bedroom, sleep sofa, fully equipped kitchen, immaculate bathroom, very secure building, overlooking a neighborhood park. We shopped at local little groceries and went to the outdoor market. We rode the public bus every day into central Rome catching it right across the street. The train station was right around the corner. The owner's daughter welcomed us and she was a delight. We would definately stay there again.
Live like a Roman on your vacation
We have stayed in this apartment twice now, first in 2005. We highly recommended it to friends who rented it in late 2009 and loved it. It is situated in a lovely neighborhood overlooking a park and river, with lots of local shops and restaurants, and a wonderful weekday outdoor market just up the street. We felt very much at home. You can catch a bus just outside the front door to get into downtown Rome. The apartment itself is gorgeous - marble floors, two beautiful balconies, a well-equipped kitchen that made it easy to cook; a spacious and comfortable bathroom, and a very nice living-dining room for relaxing. Top notch quality, managed by the owner's daughter who met us at the train from the airport and got us situated. A winner!
6 Days/Nights in Rome - first time visit
The apartment was spacious, clean and in a good neighborhood with restaurants, a great bakery, and a convenient food shop. The bus service was not reliable, but we managed. The rental rate was fair.

All the conveniences and comforts of home at Rome!
The home is spacious, well-maintained, comfortable and fully furnished. Located in a quiet residential area close to transportation, loaded with eateries and a fabulous farmers market. We were greeted at the train station (also close-by) and brought to the home. Highly recommended and enjoyed tremendously.

"Homey" apartment in Rome
John's apartment in Rome is best described as "homey." It has all the conveniences that make it livable and comfortable. Most important, John's daughter met us at the nearby train station that connects Rome to the airport. She introduced us to the apartment and the neighborhood. Nearby are shops and restaurants. There also is an out door market on the other side of a small park which the apartment over looks. A short walk away is the tram to central Rome.

Perfect quiet place to stay while being able to visit the sights
We enjoyed being away from the chaos of Rome central while still being able to access the sights easily on one ride to the central. The apartment was an easy train ride direct from the airport. It was quiet, spacious, clean and well equipped with good view towards greenery. There are local restaurants, an open market and grocery stores with a couple of fine deli's for our food requirements. Rental process was efficient and owner's hospitality was gracious. We would recommend it to anyone wanting an oasis to return to after a hectic day of sightseeing.

Excellant accomodations for a Rome experience
This was our first time to Italy. We liked our accomadations and the convience to small markets, buses to the major sights and small neighborhood restarants. We felt very safe in this neighborhood. We enjoyed the small balcony off the bedroom and livingroom . Marilee, our manager was a treasure. She is so wonderful and went out of her way to do many nice things for us. Her son angelo was an excellant tour guide to the Vatican and a tour of Rome at night. We are looking forward to returning fpr a longer visit.
Spacious apartment in quiet neighborhood at reasonable price
Apartment is spacious and clean. Modern kitchen and bath. Located in safe, quiet residential neighborhood. Walking distance to local restaurants, bars, grocery store, post office, banks. Although a little distance to centre of town (30 mins in commute traffic), bus stop is close to apartment.
