    Additional Location Information

Trastevere is rione XIII of Rome, on the west bank of the Tiber, south of Vatican City. Its name comes from the Latin trans Tiberim, meaning literally “beyond the Tiber”. Its logo is a golden head of a lion on a red background. Trastevere borders to the N the XIV rione, Borgo. In Rome’s Regal period , the area across the Tiber belonged to the hostile Etruscans: the romans named it Ripa Etrusca (etruscan bank). Rome conquered it in order to have the control of and access to the river from both sides. By the time of the Republic in 509, the number of sailors and fishermen making a living from the river had increased, and many of these had taken up residence in Trastevere. There were a lot of people coming from the East, too, mainly Jews and Syrians. The area started being considered part of the city under Augustus, who divided Rome in 14 regions; the modern Trastevere was the XIV and was called Trans Tiberim. Thanks to its partial isolation (it was “beyond the Tiber”) and to its multicultural environment since the ancient Roman period, the inhabitants of Trastevere, called trasteverini, were able to develop a separate culture of their own. Nowadays, Trastevere keeps its peculiarity thanks to its narrow streets covered by sampietrini, surrounded by original medieval popular houses. At night the streets are crowded by both Italians and foreigners because of the many pubs and restaurants. However, much of the original character of Trastevere remains. The individual character of this neighborhood has attracted artists, foreign expats.

Absolutely wonderful romantic place to stay with your partner

Left on 03/24/2013 for a stay in September 2012

I came across this site by chance on the internet several months in advance to our stay in Rome. We wanted to try something different this time and go for an apartment. We did not regret it, the little studio is an absolute gem in the middle of Trastevere, a lovely and lively neighbourhood. We could not find fault with anything, all was organised just perfectly. We have wonderful memories and will come back for sure.

      Like home in Rome

Left on 08/12/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We have nothing to complain, everything was as promised. Check-in was quick and efficient. Apartment compact, but functionally. Place was clean and quite recently renovated. But if you have problems with stairs, this isn't your place. And the terrace was lovely to sit and enjoy the roman silhouette.

      Great find

Left on 03/28/2011 for a stay in March 2011

Just spent three nights in the Scala loft studio apartment. Great location in the midst of loads of restaurants and bars and easy to walk to all the main visitor attractions. Apartment lovely and clean and extremely well equipped. Didn't do more than cook a breakfast one day as we were surrounded by eating places not need to cook!! Loved sitting out on the little balcony sipping a glass of wine in the evenings before dinner. After the shock of the numerous flights of stairs to get in the flat, well worth the effort. Had lovely meal in the Hosteria La Botticella on Vicolo del Leopardo but the best was in Vinallegro in the Di Paolino Mariangela, (turn left out of the flat, to end turn left and its in far corner of the little square - try to find it!! Hope all that follows enjoys as much as we did.

      Great and quiet apartment!

Left on 01/13/2011 for a stay in November 2010

Being from NYC, this was the perfect apartment for a getaway: top floor, close enough but far enough away from the city center, and absolutely quiet. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you will see in person...new everything, and very well kept. And the balcony with a view of St. Peter's topped it off. This is definitely a destination in the future!

      Great Rooftop room!

Left on 12/03/2010 for a stay in October 2010

I enjoyed the studio apartment for it's location, it is close to everything in Rome if you like to walk. It is decorated nicely with lots of comforts. You can prepare meals and enjoy eating on the balcony with nice views. It is a quiet place to stay which is a hard thing to find in Rome! I would stay here again!

Apartment was very small but well equipped. Best thing about it was it's convenience. All major historic sights within easy walking distance. Lots of good restaurants locally. Great view from balcony.

Modern luxury in the centre of Trastavere

Left on 11/22/2010 for a stay in August 2010

The location was fantastic, with bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Trastavere is an unknown gem, realistic prices even in the height of the season. After getting used to the stairs (3rd floor) you found a cosy, modern apartment. It was extremely clean and well appointed with the check in service friendly and second to none. The bathroom was huge with an amazing shower, just what was needed after walking around Rome! Air conditioning that worked efficiently from start to finish was a blessing. Would recommend the 'Scala Luxury apt.' to anyone and look forward to returning! A big thank you Rome Lofts.

      Trastevere Loft

Left on 11/22/2010 for a stay in May 2010

Nicely furnished loft in the heart of Trastevere. Very small in size but will be enough for a couple with one children. Loads of appliances and kitchenware makes you feel at home. Tiny terrace with views of the St.Peter's. Only downside are the stairs that lead to the loft.

Compact yet charming apartment in fantastic location

Left on 11/18/2010 for a stay in June 2010

We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. It is lovely inside with lots of chic modern touches. The kitchen is well-equipped and we cooked a full meal there. The terrace is a real bonus and we sat out enjoying a glass of wine until the early hours. We explored the whole of Rome from the apartment on foot so it's in a great location.

Sibilla from Romeloft came to meet us to give us the keys. She was on time and lovely and friendly. She showed us how to use everything in the apartment and was really helpful in directing us to trains and a supermarket. We really enjoyed our stay in Rome and will definitely use Romeloft again on our next visit.

Fantastic location, excellent facilities - cycling recommended!

Left on 11/18/2010 for a stay in September 2010

We had a fantastic time - our apartment was lovely and the location felt really safe with a great buzz in the evening. Local shops and amenities on our doorstep accompanied by friendly locals. We hired bikes and that was by far the best - in fact only - way to really see and feel Rome. I would recommend the apartment and company to anyone visiting and it was by far our favourite city break to date.
