Great place for the Italian experience

Left on 03/24/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Tha Biondi House is a great location central to all the tourist sites starting with a very pleasant walk by the river. We loved the local Italian restaurants and deli's and the Host Federico is absolutely fantastic and very willing to help you out. Frederico hosts a delicious dinner, a must if you like Italian local foods.

This was ideal for our 2 primary aged children who absolutely loved the Biondi House and enjoyed exploring Rome on foot..some days were long walks, but there is always good taxi's to take us back within 10 minutes.

      Elegance with surprising location

Left on 11/07/2012 for a stay in September 2012

This aprtment is furnished extremely well, and all the appliances are first rate. The location is ecelctic, in that it is close to many little visited sites...museums,galleries, botanical gardens, night life of Trastevere (ok, that is not 'little visited'), wonderful small restaurants off the beaten Trastevere track, and even a low key local prison!!! Don't worry! Very very safe. The patio is a bit noisy during the day and evening given the traffic a few meters away.

Perfectly located walking distance to Campo di Fiori,Vatican, Piazza Navone, Trastevere, Pantheon,. Really great accommodation with a lovely kitchen, (walk to the markets and make your own breakfast), great outdoor area, and well appointed.
Make sure you get Frederico to do one of his Wine Tastings. A welcome change from staying in an hotel.

Just average, when one considers all of the pros and cons

Left on 08/14/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Thought many of the other reviews overstated the apartment's virtues. Here are some alternative points to consider:
      * Advertised square footage (approx. 1,800 sf) is somewhat misleading as it includes a large outdoor terrace.
      * Terrace itself, while visually appealing, is not as appealing when one considers the traffic noise coming off of the busy road that is adjacent.
      * In addition to the busy road, the apartment is located across a small side street from a jail. When we inquired, the apartment owner/manager we thought he was a bit evasive and less than fully forthcoming about what the facility was.
      * Disappointed with how strictly owner/manager was in enforcing rental policies for a family run enterprise. We ourselves are in the vacation rental business so can appreciate when and why policies should be enforced and when they should be loosened. Our flight was cancelled out of Boston, costing us our first day in Rome. In light of the fact that there were no renters several days before or after our arrival, it would have been easy and virtually costless to simply push our 2 night stay back by a day. Instead, the owner/manager only offered us a discounted price on the "extra" night's stay. Booo.

For the money, Rome has better to offer.

Response from Biondi Family - 10/21/2012

      Biondi Family

      Owner

      Dear Reader dear Jim,
Thank you for your alternative point of view. I'd like to give my contribution to it clarifying a few points. Also what could have made you write in my opinion a misleading review.
I'd like to respond specifically to all the points of your critic:
1)the footage is specified in flipkey's add to be including the large terrace and also it is specified to be a one bedroom apt. ideal for "just" a couple and I think this makes it pretty clear about the inside space.
2)Rome is a capital city and "noisyness" as well as traffic are well known to be one of our very Italian caracteristics. Also when you travel is a good habit to consider in wich area you want to stay, BH is located in one of the most popular areas, Trastevere, wich is a crossroad to st. peters, campo de fiori, pantheon etc... it certainly isn't a quiet neighborhood as a lot of others periferic areas I am sure you would have enjoyed more.
3)I am absolutely upfront and proud to be close to one of the most beautiful architectonic examples and historic treasures such as Regina Coeli prison building. Exactly as we are proudly footstep close to the Lincei accademia, the Palazzo Corsini and Villa Farnesina and the Botanic Gardens. If you provide information please do it in a complete way.
      4) In Italy we have a very different conception of jails from the american "Alcatraz style" jail wich are considered dangerous places, to be hidden from and far from the city centrum, as well as from the "normal society" eyes. (you can read something about Mantellate on wiki under Regina Coeli).
Last point I'd really like to clarify. I had several overlapping requests and chose to give yours the priority. We also accommodated you when you asked me to change check in time. I recieved the call you had your flight cancelled and email after check in time was scheduled and understanding your situation I chose infact to loosen up the policie's enforcement letting you pay just 1/3 of what you should have. A pretty friendly treatment that you surprisingly seem to evade in your review.
I am sorry if you had some regrets about the money you spend, I hope you'll come back and I'll be happy to make it up to you offering you a nice wine tasting on the terrace and maybe if you'd like taking a nice walk in this noisy amazing and charming area that is trastevere.

      Regards,

      Federico Biondi

Fantastic Hosts, Fantastic accomodation, Fantastic area.

Left on 06/04/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Naomi & Federico have a fantastic apartment it is exactly as described and is newly renovated and modern, they have made sure that everything you would want is there for you to enjoy and I mean everything, they have strived for a 5 star offering and they have achieved it.

I am always nervous when booking accommodation privately as you never know what you will find however you will have no worries here, from the moment we enquired until the moment we got into the taxi to take us back to the airport, both Naomi and Federico were helpful and informative. Do take advantage of their offer of advice we visited the Forum, Palantine & Colosseum one day and Naomi's tip saved us queuing for hours in the hot weather.

The only thing that most appartments in Rome suffer from is the traffic noise but you cant hear it when the windows and doors are closed and there is air conditioning if you need it, but I can honestly say it did not bother us and after the first night we left the windows open.

If you can do take advantage of Federicos private wine & food tastings. It is his passion and we had great fun on the terrace one evening, it gives us the chance to experience Italian wines that we would never consider buying even if we could get them in the UK.

Trastevere is also a great place to stay it is central to everything, the old town with an abundance of good restaurants is a three minute walk, and the Vatican and Campo Fiori are both only ten minutes away. Be warned to take comfortable shoes as walking is really the only way to see Rome.

The best recommendation we can give is that we will return to Rome next year and Biondi House is the only place we would consider staying.

      Unbelievable!

From the moment we booked the Biondi House till the moment we checked out, our whole experience was lovely. The attention to detail by Federico and Naomi was obvious and very much appreciated. We had fresh fruit and flowers waiting for us; robes and slippers; very clean!; the decor was very well thought out and the piazza... what can be said about sitting in a beautiful place surrounded by lovely flowers and hedges. We will definately stay at the Biondi house again.

One of those rare cases where the reality exceeds one's expectations - wonderful location; a beautiful, comfortable, thoughtfully appointed flat; gracious and helpful hosts. So long as the Biondi House continues to be open to guests, we plan to stay there when in Rome.

The moment you walk in to the apartment you will find a place of peace and harmony. Everything I needed was in the apartment. The mix of antic furniture and modern art gives the apartment a perfect balance. A nice detail of the house is the terrace with view on the Tiber. It gave me a view of Rome I never had. And when I walked out the door I stand in the middle of the beautiful city of Rome.

      Incredible!!

Left on 03/06/2011 for a stay in June 2010

I shudder to think what a disaster our "Roman Holiday" would have been had Biondi House not stepped in to save not only our vacation, but quite possibly our new marriage!!
In June 2010 my husband and I, first time Europe travelers, headed to romantic Italy for our honeymoon. Thank the heavens our friends insisted there was no better place to stay in Rome than Biondi House. From the moment we stepped off the plane we felt out of our league. I thought hubby was going to ditch me for the next flight home. Luckily Biondi house had arranged our transport from the airport. Seeing our name and friendly driver was like a beacon of hope! From then on the Biondi family completely catered our entire stay in Rome. We felt as though we had old friends showing us the sites and orchestrating our every bite and sip. I can not thank the Biondi's enough. Truly Rome was the best part of our honeymoon and it is all thanks to them!
And the apartment is gorgeous. Right on the river Tiber, a short walk to any of the cities most beautiful spots. It is impossible to do justice with a photograph. We felt like we were in the lap of luxury.
My advice, put your self in the hands of Biondi House! There could not possibly be a better place to stay. Had our friends not insisted we would have stayed in a hotel and would not have experienced "living" in an Italian neighborhood, we would have missed, most importantly ,meeting the Biondi family who integrated us into their culture and city.
      Incredible experience all around.

      I loved this place!

Left on 03/02/2011 for a stay in August 2009

What a great place! I stayed at Biondi House for a week back in august 2009 after a trip to Russia. There are so many good places to eat within walking distance of the condo. I spent most my time just walking around & exploring Trastevere. It was really hot, so it was great to come back to a really nice place that was nice and cool. Great aC! Everything about the condo was really enjoyable. I loved the kitchen even though I spent most my time eating in restaurants. Every night I uncorked a bottle of local white wine and sat on the terrace. It was perfect. Lots of space on the terrace, great place to invite some guests over for dinner or drinks. You really can't ask for a nicer place than this! Federico was very easy to work with, very pleasant and professional.
