Palm SpringsGreat Place to Stay in Rome
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We had a great time at armando's flat. The location was great -- very close to everything we wanted to see, but the neighborhood is much quieter and less crowed than other places in Rome. It was great to get away and have a quiet dinner in the evening after sightseeing in the busy city. And there are lots of good restaurants around the flat. We tried one that armando recommended --Gallo Brillo -- which was very good, and also found another great place just around the corner called Piccola Toscana. One of the best meals we had on our trip. The flat was very comfortable, it had everything we needed and armando was great about communicating before and during our trip and was very helpful with advice when we needed it. I would definitely stay here again if I return to Rome. Thank you so much armando, we had a great time.

We had a very pleasant 4 night stay in this wonderful apartment that is about 15 minute walk from the Vatican wall.
The owner, Armando, was an excellent host - very friendly and helpful all the way.
The apartment has all the amenities: we cooked, did laundry ... The neighborhood is pleasant as well.
We will be back!Response from Armando De Lucia - 04/29/2013

I was not sure what to expect as this apartment is very well priced for Rome ...
The communication with armando & his wife was excellent and was a big reason I ended up choosing this apt. Armando recommended a car service to get there and I went with that...was not sure what to expect as again it was very reasonable $ ... was pleasently surprised to be met by a very professional driver/mercedes. Armando takes very good care of you from start to finish and this makes a huge difference when renting an apartment half way across the world ! He met me with his precious baby girl and made sure I was totally comfy before leaving me to enjoy Rome.
I had originally booked just the area with pull out sofa but became worried before arrival that it might not be enough room. Wrong! So I didnt need to add the bedroom as I ended up not using it. As in much of Europe... the bed was very hard... so I ended up just sleeping on the sofa bed... didnt even pull it out as it was so comfy as it was. I slept great here and area is safe and quiet.
Plenty of room in this apartment. The kitchen was well set up...I could not figure out the oven but I know armando would of come right over had I asked. I didnt need it anyways. The apartment looks like the owner has just stepped out... stuff in closets...shelves etc but it lends to a very cozy feel and again heaps of room.
The apartment is a bit further out than it looks on the Ta map but a nice walk to the Vatican and then I found it easier to walk across the river from there to center of Rome. I did use the metro as well but the walk right from apt is almost easier.
Trionfale Market is very close and an amazing place to stock up... after visiting for a week I enjoyed shop keepers recognizing me and my favs and one shop brought Bottarga in for me to bring home. Some very nice restaurants in this area as well. Again armando shared great tips and I had to agree his favorite dish at Gallo Brillo was fantastic & do try the Gnocchi Romana on saturdays only ;-) !! Also dont miss Dino & Tony's !
There is a supermarket near and the best bakery just down the street.
Even though the apt is a bit far from center I felt safe walking all the way home even late in the evening. The locals were very friendly and the area the apartment is in is very nice. It felt very 'familiar' and homey to stay here.
My fav though was the jacuzzi tub ...I would walk for hours each day and my ol body sure appreciated the awesome jacuzzi at night. I did make a mistake of adding a bit too much bubbles the first time and it was funny... a real bonus though.
A nice place to relax and again the bonus of renting from an owner who really cares about his guests.Response from Armando De Lucia - 04/14/2013

Thanks for sharing with other travelers your experience, tips and food ;-) about the Vatican area and my flat. Ciao Claire, hope we would meet again, perhaps at your restaurant!

The rooms are big and comfortable, there's a lot of light during the day. I was here through February and March, the heating system was very good. All the appliances are in great shape, it really feels like home. The neighbourhood is nice and quiet, and within walking distance from the main highlights. Also there are buses to everywhere you need to go. On top of all that - there is armando. A great Italian guy, friendly and helpful, makes you feel at home in Rome and in the apartment. I warmly recommend this apartment to everybody who wants to come to Rome for vacation.

My girlfriend and I contacted armando at the last minute, just before we boarded a train from Bologna to Rome. With about 3 hours' notice, he had the flat ready for us and was waiting to let us in. The flat is beautiful and comfortable. It has a jacuzzi bath! In fact, it's so nice, it inspired us to paint our own rooms! It's located within walking distance of ... everything. It's cheap. And armando is wonderful - he sent us a long email recommending places to go and eat and drink. We went to a few, which were amazing (Dino & Tony's in particular). We are planning on coming back to Rome, and if so, to stay in armando's flat again. So armando - we'll be in touch a few hours before we arrive!
This place is absolutely great.Response from Armando De Lucia - 01/16/2013

Armando provided us with amazing service. He worked very hard to be sure all our needs were met. He arranged for transportation for us from the train station to the apartment and from the apartment to the airport which worked very well for us.
The apartment feels very much "at home" - it's as if the owner just stepped out and allowed us to use his place - although I don't think armando actually lives there. There are several grocery stores, including a mini mart open all hours and a large supermarket nearby and the bus runs from the next street right to the Vatican, where we were able to catch the on-and-off bus we had booked to see the other sites. Very convenient!Response from Armando De Lucia - 01/16/2013

This is a wonderful place! It´s so lovely to be here that it feels like home! We had great communication with amando both before and after arrival! The housekeeping lady was sweet and very helpful! We don´t speak Italien but got along really well with Spanish and English. There is a supermarket around the corner, bakery, bars, shops, metro, bus and a very interesting and famous little desert-smoothie-shop that had a looong cue every night with local Italien people craving for a sweet night snack :) The directions to the house were easy to understand and find. I liked the house rules and the fact that its a prive house - not just an empty room with a bed! Thanks alot for the stay and the help :) all the best!

After having some problems getting the key to the appartement, we finally managed to check in one day late. The owner was happy to cover the hotel fees we incurred, as the agency did not share his cell phone with us nor transfer our cell phone numbers to him.
The place is very well equipped, very quiet, has a good king size bed, the kitchen is well equipped and useful.
The location is excellent, a few minutes walk from the Forum, about 10 minutes walk from the next subway stop.
The only negative point is the bathroom, it is far too small, and not very convenient. The shower is too small and as a result, water gets everywhere after each shower.Response from Armando De Lucia - 06/22/2012

MinskThe value for your money you would not normally get from staying
Left on 06/11/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We stayed at the armando's studio at the beginning of June 2012. When choosing our accommodation our intention had been to be able to cook for ourselves, avoid having to pay somewhat inflated summer price of the Rome hotels and, if possibly, make it feel as closely as possible to how it would feel to live in Rome for an average Roman citizen.
We both agree that the choice of this studio was definitely not off the mark . It is being kept in good shape and, although not that big, provides enough space to give the impression of home. My spouse, quite fastidious in her attitude to the kitchens and bathrooms, was pleasantly surprised at how well equipped -up to minute details- they were, which no doubt added up to our comfort of stay.
Although the host was away during our stay, we received immediate support online whenever we had any questions about managing the appliances.
Quiet- by Roman standards -and decent neighborhood, easy to find whatever shops or services you need
and as long as you do not mind a bit of a walk, the Tube and indeed the historical part of town will feel close at hand.

My daughter & I stayed for three nights, it is 5-10 mins from the Vatican. Spar shop around the corner. Near the metro and very accessible to all other areas. Pino (manager) organised our transfer to the airport during the weekend which I am sure was outside his working hours so we really appreciated this. Quiet area and we did feel safe. Great weekend.

This appartment was the first one where we found the bottle of mineral water and salt for cooking! Sometimes small details can make your day...
Some information about bus system would be great - it took us some time to understand how it works in Rome.
Don't miss and visit local market 15 min. away from the studio- my family still remember excellent veal steaks and sweetest tomatoes from Sicily.
In general it was good choice, I can say :)Response from Armando De Lucia - 05/03/2012

Left on 05/02/2012 for a stay in April 2012
My boyfriend and I left this apartment yesterday and had a wonderful stay.
The apartment was clean and well equipped for our stay, sadly only 3 days. We felt very relaxed there. We cooked dinner there every night (on a budget) and just had to buy fresh meat and veg as there were already basics in the cupboard and fridge, (oil, butter, jam, tea and coffee etc.)
There's a supermarket 2 minutes walk away open daily, (am only on Sundays). Turn left as you leave the front door, take a right and it's diagonally across at the traffic lights.
It's a 10/15 minute walk from the metro and the Vatican. There is a bus stop nearby but to be honest Rome is so beautiful it's nice to walk everywhere. You can buy a bus map for 6 Euros at book stores.
It felt like a very safe area with plenty of bars and restaurants.
Wish we had stayed longer !!!

We loved our stay in Rome. The flat had all of the amenities you needed. Armando was very responsive to our questions and we felt comfortable contacting him if necessary. It was located in Vatican City which is very close to St. Paul's Cathedral. My husband and I are experienced walkers so we walked almost everywhere, taking the subway a couple of times for further out excursions. Overall, we had a fantastic time!

DublinNice apartment with all the comforts of home.
Left on 03/06/2012 for a stay in February 2011
I had a very enjoyable stay in this apartment. I had rented apartments in Rome twice before and was a little worried about trying it a third time as I didn't have good results previously but I'm so happy I decided to book this one!
Apartments that I had booked in prior visits through large rental agents were expensive, were very sparse on items you needed for cooking in the kitchen, and not very clean. They were also sometimes a nightmare to check into.
This apartment was well equipped with everything necessary for a pleasant stay. Apartment was clean and neat. Armando was very helpful. Check-in was very easy (and the woman meeting us was patient as we were 1.5 hours late).
Two things I would mention (mostly for older travelers):
If you utilize the bedroom (and not just the pull out sofa), the bed is lofted which means you will need to climb stairs up. This was not a problem for me and my boyfriend and we quite enjoyed it but thought it was worth a mention since I know my parents wouldn't have been able to sleep up there if they had book the place.
Also I would invest in a map of the bus system as this is what we primarily used to get around the city (especially when we were returning to the apartment). The apartment is actually a few blocks north of where the map says it is located so it ended up being less of a walk taking the buses home. That said, the metro is only a 10-15 minute walk but we were usually tired in the evenings so it just worked out easier that way.
Would I stay here again? Definitely! It's hard to find a nice affordable vacation rental... particularly one with such great customer service.Response from Armando De Lucia - 05/03/2012
Owner
LORI ANN, thank you for your kindness.
It will be a pleasure to meet you again.
I bought a new city transport map, hoping the next guests will leave it at home ;-).
Next time, remember you have the bus 70 at 100m bringing you directly to Piazza Navona! Less walk, less tired!

We Stayed here for New Year 2012 for 4 nights and glad we did. From bed room to the kitchen to the bathroom, this place is absolutely fabulous and we genuinly felt at home in this wonderful place. Every feature of the kitchen was ultra efficient and very clean. Upone arriving at this place, the houskeeper showed us all the features of the apartment. The rooms are very clean, the bed is very comfortable and the owner were very quick to respond to all queries and were very happy to help us. We used the Jacuzzi quite a bit and it was fantastic and we just walked from this apartment to vatican as it is only a short walk through a lovely shopping street. The owners was excellent host and was very helpful with all our quiries and would like to thank them for their hospitality. The building and the area of this apartment is peaceful, beautiful and clean area of Rome with short walk to 2 supermarkts. In fact one supermarket is just 3 minute away from this place. The TV had excellent channels and there is DVD players and Dvds and CDs in the living room. We had great time in this apartment and we highly recommneded and give it 5 stars .

This apartment has a good location and is fully equipped. The owner has many of his possessions stored in it. A very narrow stairwell to the "hung from the ceiling" bed had no railing and was a bit dangerous for going down to the bathroom at night. We were unable to make the computer work despite several contacts by public computer with armando. However, he made up for this by giving us a small unsolicted rebate. Despite the above caveats we enjoyed this quiet apartment and definitely recommend it for an active young person or couple.

Lowell,
thank you for you review.
For sure, internet was functioning properly, and i send you many times the instructions on how to connect to the wireless network... i send you the rebate because i was not able to come and explain personally how to use internet!
About the stairwell, sleeping on the air could have any inconvenient!
Consider usually we only rent the half of the flat, people sleeping on the sofa Natuzzi branded comfortable bed.

I stayed here for two weeks from Oct. 15, 2011 to Oct. 29, 2011 and really enjoyed it. The location for me was perfect. As advertised you are a 10 minute walk away from the Metro, which really allows you to get almost anywhere, and approximately 15 minutes from strolling around St. Peter's Square and the Vatican grounds. You have the Trifonale Flower market across the street and places to eat and markets very close. The flat itself, is quiet and looks out on a courtyard. I had no trouble sleeping here and I am sensitive to noise.
My first night here, I was walking around St. Peter's Square that when I heard my name called -- a strange experience in a city I've never been to -- and it was armando, the owner of the flat, with his wife and child who were in town and out for a walk. He had recognized me from my passport picture that I had forwarded to rent the flat. They were really very nice to me, taking me out for a drink and something to eat. I write that with some hesitation, lest future renters of the flat believe that's part of the service, when I believe I was just lucky. Both armando and Pino made sure I had everything I needed at the flat and made the experience really smooth and enjoyable. Armando in particular is a great guy. When he found out internet access was very important to me, he made sure to check that the speed of the wi-fi was adequate when he saw me.
I loved Rome, and hope to go back one day soon. When I do, I will definitely check to see if armando's apartment is available.Response from Armando De Lucia - 11/15/2011
