Description from the owner
This is truly a lovely property in one of the nicest residential areas of the city of Rome, on top of the Gianicolo hill (100 meters from Villa Sciarra), a few steps above the charming neighbourhood of Trastevere. It consists of an independent small house of 75 sqm, intersected to a series of articulated terraces, fully accessorised with nice ornamental plants and garden furniture (including a BBQ), for a full use of the house premises especially on sunny warm days and on summer evenings.
The house is developed into two main floors: the first floor hosts the living room and the kitchen, both fully accessorized and nicely furnished with... white wooden etagere and wall units that offer plenty of space for your personal items, making it ideal even for longer sojourns. A nice small staircase gives access to a higher level in which a double-bedroom (with bunk beds), alternatively useful as study, leads to one of the terraces. The second floor consists of a spacious bathroom with a bathtub in addition to a stylish washing basin, a WC and a bidet, adjacent to a large double bedroom with a private balcony facing the beautiful context of the surrounding villas and palazzettos of early 1900s.
The property is in a quiet and safe residential context where you can experience how Roman people live their daily life; it is a real jewel for an alternative holiday in the eternal city, at a few minute walk to the commercial area of the block (where bars, gelato, pastry, bakery, butchery and all sorts of grocery stores can be found) and very well connected to public transports that easily lead to the centre in about 10 minutes.
Finally, our cottage is very convenient for those arriving by car as it is easy to reach from the A1 motorway and parking is free around to the Orangerie.Read more

We spent four nights at l'Orangerie over Easter and it was just wonderful, an oasis of peace and calm to return to after battling the hordes in the historical centre. The house is exactly as described and very comfortably accommodated our family of 5. The terrace is a lovely place to relax and soak up the sun and everything we needed - information, coffee making facilities, clean towels and sheets, soft beds - was in ready supply.
On arrival, we caught the train from the airport to Trastevere station, then took the tram no. 8 for two stops and walked up the several flights of stairs to Via Ugo Bassi. It was fine doing this with children who are able to walk and without heavy luggage but if you have a stroller, aren't able to walk up uneven stairs and/or have suitcases then I'd recommend catching the bus from the station!
We really liked the Gianicolense neighbourhood and enjoyed eating dinner at Il Foccolare and Tutto Qua as well as having breakfast at the Café Vert.
For any runners who're considering a stay, the Parco Villa Pamphilj is nearby and offers kilometres of excellent, car free running or walking paths.
Lovely quite cottage
This is a really good choice for staying in Rome if you want to see what it's like to live there. A cute, interestingly designed cottage, best for two people, with all the basics and in a quiet safe residential area. I'd say, if you know London, the area is most like Notting Hill 25 years ago, before it was gentrified, as it has large villa-type houses which have been converted into flats.
Super little shops nearby; best of all is a street market within five minutes (we rustled up sea bass with ricotta stuffed courgette flowers and saffron risotto). Not cheap though! However, fantastic and good value take-away pizza place nearby too, which we regretfully only found on our last day, and a useful Carrefour a stone's throw away. Be prepared to speak Italian!
Giacinto is extremely thorough and efficient and leaves useful guides to the local area at the house and has them available to download. He arranged very prompt and friendly drivers to and from the airport.
Since we last visited Rome, the whole city is looking sadly worse for wear due to the recession...with far more litter, graffiti, potholes and shysters than before and literally everywhere..the centre is more exhausting than ever too...so it is very nice to have a clean, secure and quiet bolthole with outside space to come back to in the evenings.
A bit of a treck into town (as atop a steep hill) but there is a good taxi rank nearby as well as buses...and taxis actually aren't that expensive. There's a good washing machine at the house off the patio but also a service wash launderette and dry cleaners a block away.
While you are there, if you want some fresh air and to get away from even the low season crowds, try going to the Villa adriana and Villa D'Este out of town (Viator arrange good whole day tours there) or to Ostia antica (on a train...only Eur 1.50 each way!). They were the highlights! Also the lovely Villa Doria Pamphili gardens are a ten minute walk away and free. Perfect for joggers.

Friendly Hosts, Nice House in Good Location
Francesca and Giacinto were very responsive in working with my wife and I during our trip from the us to Rome. They scheduled a car to pick us up from the airport, and Giacinto was there to greet us when we got to the house.
The house is in a working class neighborhood about 5 minutes from the tram station. They are a tough five minutes, though, as you have to descend three flights of stairs. The tram takes you straight into central Rome, and getting around this way was very easy.
The house is also close to local shops and restaurants, and about a 15 minute walk from the heart of the trendy section of Trastevere. Also nearby is lovely Gianocolo Hill.
Everything was clean, and the essentials were provided. It was nice having a washing machine for our week-long trip. It was rainy during our stay, but I think the patio would have been nice if we would have been lucky enough to catch pleasant weather.
Highly recommended if you don't mind the stairs. Great value, and much more authentic feeling than central Rome.
Great apartment and fantastic, friendly service.
Lovely apartment with lots of character and a great outdoor terrace in a nice 'local' neighbourhood. Easy to get into the centre of Rome (we walked most days and took the tram a few times too). There is a great walk with amazing views of the city close by too. Service from Francesca and Giacinto was outstanding - very friendly and extremely helpful.
We had such a fabulous time in Rome! The cottage is delightful, clean, comfortable, and in a quiet location. Loved having the terrace to sit and unwind from our days of roaming Rome. We loved the location on the edge of Trastevere, up on the hill. It was nice to have a place that was slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the centre square, yet we could walk to it anytime we needed the excitement,
I would highly recommend l'Orangerie as a choice of accommodation in Rome. For us, we will stay again on our return to Rome. We love L'Orangerie!
Also, Francesca and Giacinto are wonderful! They made sure we were well taken care of.
It made our trip to Rome
We were excited before we left for Rome as it was our honeymoon and we'd read so many positive comments about L'Orangerie.
The reality was so much better. Our hosts arranged for travel from the airport and we were greeted at the house and given all the information we need and some tips on where to go locally and how to get about. This was a great start to our holiday as we felt instantly at home, relaxed and started formulating a plan of what to do on our first days.
The house has everything you need. Internet worked perfect; washing machine; air con in the besdroom; lovely outside spaces; seclusion and privacy; a fully fitted out kitchen; fantastic bathroom and shower. It was very clean and it really did feel like a home away from home.
The area is great too. You are near Trastevere - at a good pace 15mins - and there is a local supermarket which is 1 min walk away. Down the hill is a tram and bus into central Rome. You are close enough to Trastevere to go out but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet of where you stay. The house is very secure and we always felt safe.
If you are looking for your perfect stay then look no further. We couldn't have asked for anything more from a lovely house and perfect hosts.
Great house, your own space without costing the earth
Very nice place with very friendly owners, they tried hard and made sure everything went well. About 20min walk from the Tiber and up on top of the hill.
The house is 5 to 10 min up the hill from the no.8 tram. We had a fantastic time in Rome and the house being really good was a crucial part of that.
Perfect Cottage in Rome
My parents and I stayed at L'Orangerie for a week this summer, and we really enjoyed the stay. It is a beautiful cottage placed in a very nice and quiet neighbourhood on the hill of Monteverde just south of the center of Rome. You can walk to the center of Rome in 25-30 minutes.
The cottage itself is beautiful with a great terrace, and Giacinto was a very helpful and flexible host.
We can only recommend L'Orangerie and hope to stay there again.
So pleased with this property
The owners and staff were extremely helpful and attentive with all queries and communications. We loved the property which was exactly as pictured. A very beautifully decorated property with excellent facilities and within walking distance of Historic Rome. We loved this property and would happily return. Giacinto was a very friendly owner.
The pictures don't lie. This is truly a lovely, spotlessly clean villa in a pretty residential neighborhood with an open air market and grocery. Every recommendation Giacinto made was perfect, from transportation to restaurants to what to visit in the amalfi Coast. He couldn't have been more helpful, including when there was a transit strike.
The accommodations were perfect for me and my son. We each had our own space, and at a very reasonable price. Do try the Fior di Frutta marmalata (marmalade) available at the market or grocery store. It was heavenly with fresh bread every morning.
We walked the Janiculum Hill to The Vatican, walked to Trastevere and the aventino, took the bus to the Colosseo, and the tram to the Largo argentina. Though not so young, I loved the walking, and felt like we got a very good feel for Rome (one could return 100 times and still not see all). However, once we got home for the evening, we usually decided to stay put and eat locally rather than climbing those stairs again!
Highly recommended in every regard.
Loved Our Stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at l'Orangerie. It was exactly what we wanted - a beautiful and very comfortable place to unwind after our long days of exploring. We like to walk and the location of the cottage allowed us to venture to nearby neighborhoods such as Trastevere and Testaccio - and even walk to the Vatican. For further away areas the tram and bus are just a few minutes from the cottage.
The cottage is located in the beautiful neighborhood of Monteverde and there is a very large market and several restaurants nearby. Our favorite restaurant was Il Focolare, which is located just down the street.
Staying at l'Orangerie made everything about our Rome visit better. Yes, we did a lot of the classic "tourist" things, but we were also able to experience parts of the city that we never could have if we had stayed in one of the more crowded tourist areas. And coming "home" to a calm and safe neighborhood was something we looked forward to every day.
One last note - Giacinto met us at the cottage when we arrived and gave us his cell number in case we needed anything. This was comforting to have, but there was never a need to call him. Our five days couldn't have been easier or better.
We hope to get back to Rome and we couldn't imagine staying anywhere but l'Orangerie.
The cottage was marvelous, very nice vue to the citty. Rome
a very pleasant stay
My wife, 2 year old daughter, and I spent a very enjoyable and comfortable four days over Easter at the Orangerie. The apartment is spacious for 3 people and there is a nice patio for eating outside when the weather is fine. Everything we needed was provided for us and the owners were very helpful in providing information and advice. The apartment is good value for money and there are plenty of decent restaurants and shops in the local residential area. The only downside is that you must rely either on buses (which are not always very punctual in Rome) to get to tourist areas or walk down the hill to Trastevere (very pleasant going down, a bit more strenuous going up!).
Dies ist die beste Ferienwohnung, die wir je hatten!
New Haven, CT
great spot off the beaten path
This place was a wonderful retreat in the city of Rome. We really enjoyed being in a nice, quieter Roman neighborhood but still close enough to the sites. It is a really easy walk to Giancolo Park/Hill which is part of the "Best walk in Rome" to Vatican City (the full walk takes about 30-40 minutes if you don't linger too long looking at the view). Pretty convenient to get to the Trastevere neighborhood.
The patio area is really nice and is actually enclosed and removed a bit from the street (difficult to see this from the pictures) so with nice weather it's a treat.
We stayed here with our two very young children and were well accomodated. Giacinto was very helpful in getting us set up with some additional conveniences for the baby (crib, etc). The balcony off the bedroom is a nice spot to escape to with a bottle of wine when the children are in bed (although it was a bit cold in November)
There is a tram to get to the heart of the city- Largo argentina which is not far from the Pantheon- but it is at the base of a long, steep series of stairs. The buses are fairly convenient but take a little longer to get around.
A home in Rome
I must start by saying how helpful both Francesa and Giacinto were in helping us with our stay both in contacting us in the lead up to our holiday providing helpful details and offering to arrange a taxi from the airport to meeting Giacinto initially when we arrived who gave more help to aid us in orienting ourselves around Rome.
Now to the maisonette, it was a fantastic retreat allowing us to sit outside within the calm surrounds of the walled outside space, a beautiful home to look at and the inside was just as nice. The L'Orangerie offered plenty of room for us and ended up being a home away from home.
The one minor thing i would mention is that it can take a hefty walk up some very steep steps from the main public transport. Our group were in our 30s and 40's and whilst walking down the steps never presented a problem, none of us looked forward to the journey back up them (not for the fainthearted !). Having said this there is a bus that can take you from the centre of Rome near to the maisonette - though i would plan this in advance as it seems this service was less frequent than that provided at the bottom the Steps.
In conclusion, Fantastic owners, wonderful property, short journey to the main centre (once steps negotiated), shops just down the road so you can get any daily essentials - milk/drink etc.
This was my first visit to lovely Rome and would love to go back again - if i did i would have no hesitation in booking my stay at L'orangerie.

Gorgeous property in a quiet neighborhood
We had a wonderful experience for 5 nights at this gorgeous property. It's a large, stand-alone private property with beautiful decor and incredible patios. The photos on the website are accurate, but they don't do justice to the private nature and open feeling the property provides. It is a fabulous property!
The owners, Francesca and Giacinto, do everything possible they can to make the stay enjoyable. They arranged for a driver for airport pick-up and they answer emails quickly. They provide printed information on buses, trams, things to do, recommended restaurants and neighborhood businesses. Please review and keep those pages handy as they answer just about any questions you may have and provide excellent recommendations in the neighborhood.
This location is excellent for those travelers who want to be in a upper scale neighborhood, but close enough to the hustle and bustle of Rome. Perfect place to come back to after a day of enjoying the city. It would not be good for someone with walking difficulties. There is a large grocery store within 5-7 minutes. There are convenient and timely buses available within 5 minutes of the property, and there is a 5 minute walk down the neighborhood steps to the convenient tram. Walking 3 blocks to the main street you'll find a taxi stop location where taxis are usually waiting for fares. We normally walked back to the property at the end of the day, but my wife and I exercise and are in good physical shape. We found it convenient on other occasions to either take a bus or taxi back. Do not miss the easy walk on Gianocolo toward St Peters. The best views of the city that will be a memorable walk for sure!
We loved our stay at l'Orangerie and wished every property we stay at was as nice as this. It's a gem and the owners are responsive and great to work with. Grazie Francesca and Giacinto!
A great place to stay in the wonderful city...
We stayed at l'Orangerie in mid-September and it was the perfect place to relax while enjoying everything that Rome has to offer. The apartment is located in a quiet Roman suburb where you can live like a local. The apartment is very well equipped (including wifi) and has a kitchen if you want to dine in and a lovely garden area with a seating and eating area. Nearby there is a daily food market, supermarket, gelateria, cafes and a few local restaurants. A 20 minute walk will take you into the Trastevere area which is packed full of lovely places to eat and drink. The bus and tram services are great and are a ten minute walk down the hill - buy the tickets from any shop displaying the "T" symbol. Remember to buy a ticket for getting back home if you're planning on being out late and stamp your ticket in the machine when you board. The owners are very helpful and were a pleasure to deal with - they also provide lots of suggestions to make your visit special. The walk along Gianicolo Hill is a must-we did it on the way to an early visit to the Vatican and the view of Rome is spectacular. This was our second visit to Rome and we loved the city and loved staying in this wonderful home from home.
Lovely oasis in peaceful, elegant neighbourhood
I stayed here with my Fiance and 20 year old daughter for a short break.
Francesca and Giacinto were wonderful hosts - welcoming and immensely helpful providing all the information needed to make our stay perfect. L'Orangerie itself is gorgeous maisonette - wonderful to go back too after a days sightseeing. We loved the terrace and spent some hours there sunbathing, having a glass of prosecco or two and having a bbq, my daughter was in heaven!
It is in the perfect location, near beautiful parks and so easy to get to the city centre using the tram 5 minutes away - you just have to prep yourself for the steps on the way back! We went into Rome everday - absolutely stunning and walked in one day using the route Giacinto reccommended - views to die for! There are also plenty of good bars and restaurants in the immediate area and a huge market near the tram stop on Sunday mornings. We really had a wonderful time and thank Francesca and Giacinto for their fantastic hospitality. Special thanks must go to their great friends who rescued us when we inadvertently locked ourselves out! True superheroes! We will definitely return here if we are lucky enough to visit Rome again.
A perfect week in Rome
My family and I had a perfect stay at I'Orangerie the summer 2012. We contacted the owners after having read positive reviews on Tripadvisor, and the owners have been highly professional and very helpful all the way. From the agreement, the arrival, during the stay, and even after we returned to our hometown - having forgotten our belongings in the rented home, which they shipped us!
We visited Roma by foot, tram and bus, and found all the information we needed in the house. I'Orangerie is situated in a nice neighborhood, and in the afternoons our children played in a beautiful public park nearby. We can highly recommend I'Orangerie.
Thorigny sur Marne
Dolce vita romaine
I love this place so much I would love to own it !!!
Little secluded getaway in Rome is just what you are looking for. Stylish, private with great patio for relaxing. When done sightseeing great to come back to relax and be alone, if you wish. Great exercise to and from tram if you choose to take the stairs or can just use the the road path, or the bus transit. Very easy to navigate from here to all landmarks. Owners are phone call away to address issues if any. We certainly shall return. Nice little area to walk around and sightsee and view parks, cafes and restuarants without going to main areas. Can walk and find lots to do, great vacation. Note: 2 months in Italy only place to have window screens! Great for fresh air at night without mosquitos entering.. Owners have listed everything you might need while you are staying in this lovely home. As stated I would love to live here!!
Great, fabulous, loved it!
Giancinto and Francesca were wonderful hosts. They communicated with us as needed and never imposed, leaving us the freedom to explore Rome while not abandoning us if we needed them. They spoke English fluently and provided maps and a personal welcome with descriptions of where and how to get around the city. Their patience with jet lagged visitors was admirable. They even arranged pick up at the airport which was cheaper than taking a taxi. Their home was lovely with lots of room to spread out with four of us comfortably utilizing the space. There is a beautiful terrace we took full advantage of. The location is away from the touring crowds which we really loved. We shopped at the local grocery store amongst the neighbors. We travelled by bus easily to the city center and also walked back and forth. We learned to navigate the numerous steps up the hill and also how to access the apartment from the other side obliviating the need to traverse those steps in the midday heat. My 80 yr old mother had no difficulty even in the heat of July. I loved Giancinto and Francesca's helpfulness and the apartment is beautiful. If you want to stay in a neighborhood and experience what it is like to live in Rome, this is the place for you.
So Nice !
Living like a local in Rome!
L'Orangerie was the perfect spot for my family on our recent trip to Rome. Francesca & Giacinto were so responsive to all of our questions & our needs, even arranging for a very comfortable little toddler bed for our young son. We enjoyed our time in the neighborhood and made use of the local pharmacy, hardware, grocery store and many restaurants. It was the perfect location for exploring Rome by day and sleeping peacefully at night! Our favorite part was the lovely terrace with our very own lime tree --- it felt like home, if only for a few days!
Our stay at maisonette l'Orangerie was a wonderful experience. There was everything needed to make our stay comfortable ant at home. The beds were comfortable, towels plentiful and the kitchen was well equipt with everything one would need. Giacinto was very pleasant and ensured we had everything necessary for a most pleasant stay. The best part was the lovely terrace filled with blooming plants, lovely dinning and seating area. One needs to like stairs as the hike up from the number 8 tram requires stamina.
Home sweet Rome!
L'Orangerie provides you with some peace and quite in busy Rome. The appartement looks just as pretty as in het pictures. Perfectly decorated, cosy and very clean. A big plus is het large terrace.
The neighborhood was chique and every thing you need is within walking distance. Rome's citycenter is also very easy to reach by tram and from the apartment it's a 15 minute walk to Trastevere were there are a lot of great dining options.
The owners are very welcoming and will help you out as much as they can. We would definitely come back to L'Orangerie again!
More than we could have wished for...
We have stayed at many vacation rentals before, but this is our favorite. It is like you return to an oasis after spending the day in the hustle and bustle of the city. The hosts are extremely helpful and the public transportation to major sites and locations is real easy - we recommend to get the Roma Pass. The best food we had on the trip was right in the neighborhood and the outdoor market down the street has all the produce you can wish for to make a wonderful meal or pick nick on the patio.

Wonderful refuge from the touristic old town Rome
Thank you Francesca and Giacinto for making our Roman holiday such a success! You took excellent care of us on every level -- arranging a car to and from the airport, helping with dinner reservations and providing us with a lovely place to stay. We felt like honored guests. Next time, we will plan a more leisurely schedule in order to relax on your lovely terrace :-) Rome is such a fascinating, yet intense place to visit, it really helps to have a calm and safe neighborhood to call home-away-from-home. We will be back and hopefully soon!
A great one month stay
I stayed here for a month with my husband and two children. It is a little house (rare in central Rome), with a living room and kitchen downstairs, bedroom and bathroom upstairs, and a den a few steps up from the living room, opening onto the beautiful terrace. The sofa bed in the living room plus the room upstairs made it perfect for the four of us. A fifth person could have slept in the den. The fact that this is on 2 floors+the den meant that we weren´t tripping over each other all the time like we would have been in a hotel room. We were here in winter and didn´t enjoy the terrace as much as we would have liked. It is precious. The house is very well equipped. The owners have really put their heart into making it a comfortable and functional place. I found all the kitchen utensils I needed, even colorful cups and plates for kids. It was great to have a washing machine, and we found detergent, etc. already there. There is plenty of closet space. The very friendly owners gave us great tips on where to go and how to get around, and checked in on us every so often. They answered our questions promptly by e-mail or phone. They left maps of Rome and custom made maps of the neighborhood showing grocery stores, restaurants, bus stops, etc.. This is a quiet neighborhood, with what seems like very low tourist density. To get to the main tourist attractions, there are trams/buses a short walk away. We often took cabs to come back home from the center, especially at night. Not expensive at all. A few blocks away from the house there is a street with small shops where you can get anything you need. There is a useful street market, Monday to Saturday. If you really have to go to the supermarket, there is one several blocks down, but still walking distance. A small kosher supermarket is one block down. We tried a few of the restaurants suggested by the owners, all close by, and were happy with all of them. We loved it. Would definitely stay here again.
A beautiful villa in the heart of Rome
We had a wonderful stay at the villa, the accomodation was excellent. The decor is lovely, with excellent lounge, and bedrooms. The Kitchen is well equiped with everything you would need to cook a meal. The Bedrooms and Bathroom were to a very good standard with very nice furniture. The Villa is located in a perfect area, with local shops and restaurants near by. The Villa is a short walk to excellent public transport links to the city. The heart of the city is a brisk 20 mins walk along the river, or you could take the panoramic walk north of the villa to St Peter's the views are stunning. The owners are wonderful and did everything they could to make our stay at the villa a brilliant experience. We have alread recomended the villa to friends for the next visit to Rome. If you want to be a little away from the heart but in the centre of the true Rome then this is a wonderful place to stay. We may visit in the summer so we would use the wonderful out door space with terraces and BBQ. Thank you again to Francesca and Giacinto for their hospitality.
Great location and well appointed
Perfect place to spend a week or two enjoying Rome. The location is away from the hustle and tourist centric areas which meant we came back each afternoon to a relaxed atmosphere. The garden is great to have an afternoon drink as the sun went down.
A walk to the tram via the stairs was great exercise and one which we were glad to have done after all of the food we were eating. The tram is an excellent transport system and highy recommended.
Well stocked supermarket is within walking distance from the apartment and good directions were provided on check in as well as other details about the area.
Transport to airport kindly arranged by owners and was excellent.
We loved our time at the La Orangerie and would certainly return if back in Rome.
A lovely break from the craziness of Rome!
This well-located house/apartment gave us the privacy that we needed from the hustle and bustle of Rome. Although slightly difficult to find initially, it gave us the ability to feel like we were experiencing how Romans live.
The place was on two stories with a bedroom on the top floor. There is an a private balcony/ outdoor area to relax in. The rooms were well appointed with clean linen and air-conditioning in bedrooms. Access to trams was a 5 min walk away although the walk up from main street could be difficult to navigate at night and those who find stairs difficult.
All in all, a good experience was had and one which is highly recommended to others!
A right place to stay
l'Orangerie is very lovely. The beds are very comfortable. The bedlinen is very clean. The neighborhood is nice and convenient. It's easy to take buses and tram to Rome city center. Stores and restaurants are closed by. A local market is just 5 min walk away. We lived just like the locals.
The owners - Francesca and Giacinto took good care of us. The public transportation was on strike on the day we left Rome. Giacinto volunteered driving us to the train station. Thank you, Giacinto. We will definitely stay at l'Orangerie next time we visit Rome!
How do you describe perfection? l'Orangerie
How would describe beauty, comfort and relaxing environment?
If you are looking for a true Roman lifestyle, if you want real Italia food and drink, if you really want to bask in the Roma sun, if you really want to walk the streets at night in safety and view all of Roma from a hilltop just ten minute walk from your doorstep, if you are looking for the best gelato, the best wine bar, the most beautiful flowers. Even on Sunday, when all the stores are closed, just walk around and follow the ladies with bags of goodies...The flea market is in a back alley where you can find everything to want and don't want. It's all here...
Learn the bus system...#75 is now your best friend. Your other best friend is Giacinto, proprietor of l'Orangerie. He will help you and make sure all is well and you're happy. My wife and I had a true Roman holiday. If you're lucky and smart, you will book this place.
How do you describe perfection?
Quiet friendly neighborhood
L'Orangerie was great. The neighborhood is very quiet and relaxing. Not a lot of tourists so you get to meeet realm Italians. There are two grocery stores, bakery , produce stands, and lots of restaurants. Very nice park down the road to sit in. Easy to get into Rome and the main shopping district in Trastevere.I would stay there again. Great value.
New York City
home away from home Italian style
My experience with the owners of this beautiful and stylish small house was wonderful from start to finish. The owners, Francesca & Giacinto, couldn't have been more gracious, even helping me plan the second part of my trip, and arranging private car service for me and a friend, even after we had left the house for another destination.
The house is as charming and meticulous as it could possibly be, and the garden and terrace were delightful and private. You can use the sofa bed in the living room as a separate sleeping area, and a chair in the small but charming den is also a sleeper. Everything functioned beautifully, the architecture and furnishings were top notch, the house private and authentic, and the gardens to die for. All this on one of Rome's 7 hills, with views above all Rome, and only a 10 minute bus ride from all the action. A truly wonderful find!
Late aug/Sept.stay to Rome
Excellent apartment. Pictures and description are accurate. Lovely terrace and balcony. Quiet neighbourhood, well equipped kitchen, clean and fully functioning apartment. Very smooth booking arrangements and friendly welcome from owners' agent. Would definitely recommend to others.

Great place to stay
We stayed here with our teenage children. It's a great place, just as described. In a quiet neighborhood, in a great region of Rome. It's up on a hill, so it's a trip down a few long flights of stairs to get to the tram (and a trip up to get home) but not a big deal, and totally worth it. We'd definitely stay there again, and will recommend to friends.

Excellent location and very comfortable!
I spent the week from July 11-18 2011 at l'orangerie with my wife and 16 month old son. The owner, Giacinto was terrific in organising the apartment for our arrival. A transfer from Fiumicino was booked in advance and there was no problem with the additional requirements for our son (i.e. high-chair, port-a-cot etc.). Giacinto was also very thorough providing maps of points of interest, public transport and so on which allowed us to hit the ground running in Rome. The service was terrific, not intrusive but always on hand to offer resistance when required.
The apartment itself was very comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped with appliances and utensils, the bathroom contained a good bath/shower and the upstairs was fitted with air conditioning. The lower level of the apartment remained quite cool with the use of fans despite the hot weather experienced in Rome. The outdoor area is very cosy, particularly in the evenings.
The location of the apartment was also exceptional. The Gianicolo area is an excellent area with great people that were very kind and approachable. The apartment is located right next to the Villa Sciarra and is close to public transport as well as the local shops inc. banks and supermarkets. The neighbourhood felt safe and was quiet at night which was a plus when travelling with an infant.
Getting into the historical centre of Rome was very easy - either a 10-15 minute walk down the hill or a short bus ride to the Viale di Trastevere followed by a quick ride on the #8 Tram directly into the heart of Rome. We were also able to get to the Vatican via the 870 bus without having to enter the city.
Overall, the apartment was very comfortable in a great location and served as an excellent base to explore Rome's historical centre as well as the vibrant Trastevere/Gianicolo area. Read more
Response from Francesca and Giacinto - 07/24/2011
Michael, thank you very much for your great review!! I am very glad you spent very good time in Rome and in our apartment. I hope everything is going well in Melbourne! if you decide to come back to Rome we will be very happy to have you as our guest again!!
With our best wishes,

Place is great: Highly recommend it for couples where the location, comfort, and cleanliness are top notch. It's a bit more challenging with toddlers but still a great place to use as a home base to explore Rome. Enjoy!
Could not ask for more
The building was well maintained, clean, and all amenities were working and in good condition. The out door patios were like additional rooms which we used often in the evenings. The location is off the beaten path which was what we were looking for. We were trying to avoid the touristy locations and this was it. Public transportation worked well for us, a little trying at times. It was a great value over a hotel room, gave us the option of having a few meals at home rather than eating out all of the time, this was most helpful with breakfast for the kids, and sometimes packing a lunch to take with us. As my only complaint wast not with the apartment it was with eating out? I was quite surprised that the food in Rome was so hit and miss, And to be fair in my criticism our family take our meals early, where in Rome they took there evening meal late. Often time when we were ready for dinner the staff of the restaurant was sitting down for there meal. This is a great way to experience Rome with out being a supper tourist.
We were in the centre of Rome surrounded by greenery and complete silence in the wonderful area of Monte Verde Vecchio with all of its amenities including a fantastic wine shop where you can buy a great range of Italian wines. There is also a fab open air fruit and veg market and lots of bars where you can get a great cappuccino. You absolutely have to try the ice cream from the nearby gelateria called La Gourmandise.
Even though the centre of the city is not far, the traffic and noises of the city are nowhere to be heard.
The house is a little villa with every comfort, an elegant décor and a nice garden where we often ate "al fresco” in the candlelight with great background music, provided for guests staying there.
The owners, Giacinto and Francesco are wonderful people who are always at your disposal to provide you with lots of information regarding the splendid city of Rome. They often gave us some great insider tips regarding restaurants, shops and places which you cannot find in any guidebooks.
It's a family & friend trip. My friend and I visited Italy with our mothers,we stayed 3 nights in L'orangerie.
Francesco and Giacinto are so friendly and hospitable.Since we sent a first email, they always sent us a quick and helpful reply. Check-in and check-out were satisfactorily arranged.
The house is very comfortable & clean, the atmosphere is very cozy and artistic. The decoration is soften color as white\beige\green, with plenty of cotton\ linen\wood.
The location is very convenient that you can park just behind the house and it's free. You can reach supermarket\bar\bus stop within 5 minutes by walk. We took bus line 75 to Colosseum directly, and another bus could arrive Vatican directly. We found a good restaurant in last night, I will send to Giacinto later, then he can update the information card in the house.
Last but not least,I strongly recommend you to spend one afternoon in the terrace, you can read your favorite book\watch TV via wifi\arrange your photos or just take a rest.
The only thing we felt a little regrettable is we had only 3 nights in l'orangerie, even we didn't have time to take a walk in the park nearby.
Hope we can come back and stay more times here.
Attentive, friendly service beyond the call of duty!
Giacinto was so helpful - even picked up tickets for us to attend the Golden Gala when we had trouble booking online! Loved the terrace with the wonderful-smelling flowers.

Home in Rome
Ever had the dream if I could only live in Rome? Here you feel like you are living in a home, small but with all that is needed to be comfortable. The terrace is perfect to breakfast or lunch or dinner or relax between working or touring. With wi-fi, music, a cute kitchen with all the basics and more. Everything done with beautiful taste, simple and fine. And the owners and the people who help them completely helpful and charming. A total delight.
A happy traveller
A quiet haven and close to the centre of Rome
My family and I really enjoyed our 3 night break at the Orangery. Federica and Franco were there to greet us and show us around the place which was very nice. They offered us some advice and tips about getting around which was greatfully received and worth listening to.
Our days started with breakfast on the terrace (from the market) and we were lucky that the weather was very good whilst we were there which made it a delight (Federica had told us about a street a few blocks away where there was a small street market and shops where we could buy everything fresh from bread, ham and cheeses to fresh fruit and vegetables which is where we purchased our morning goodies).
The Orangery was very comfortable and clean and very welcomed after a long and busy day sightseeing all that Rome had to offer.
We ate out at some great restaurants in Travestere each night (on the south side of the river close to the centre...definately the best places to eat out as on the other side of the river the restaurants are heavily geared to tourists, are more expensive and serve food of poorer quality) and the Orangery was a 15-20 min walk home after our meal. As other guests have stated there are a lot of steps near the end of the walk home however we had two children aged 7 & 8 that didn't find it a problem but i'm sure the eldery or disabled person would struggle if they didn't have transport each night.
Very nice and comfortable apartment
What a beautiful apartment! Just perfect for this my first time in Rome. I dubt any hotel could have made me feel more confortable or more at home. This place truly made are stay in Rome magical.
The area is pretty quiet for a city such as Rome and the supermarket down the road is perfect for everything. The apartment is well set up and the bed very comfortable, the bathroom lovely and the kitchen is fullyequipped but the terrace is a plus for us ! Everything is just as in the pictures...even better. The owner is very kind and offered help or advice when needed. Definitely I would recommend this location to friends!

Corner of heaven
what a beautiful place in Rom !
We want to come back in this house as soon as we can, it was a real pleasure !!
Unusual cottage treasure in Rome
This very comfortable independant white house with its gorgeous terracotta terrace is quite a treasure in Rome where it is really unusual to find anything more than a flat. The house is confortably and tastefully furnished by kind and courteous hosts who have also provided jazz CDs for the stereo, great books (in Italian) to read and lots of magazines for those looking for suggestsions of places to see in Rome. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, oven, stove, and lots of dishes pots and pans. The living room and small study invite feet up with a glass of wine at the end of a long day on days when it is too cool to sit out on the terrace. There are tons of divets and blankets for the bedroom, and an extra two sofa beds for friends when they come. The terrace is already planted with great terracotta pots of white cyclamen and yellow primula, and elegant patio furtniture is also provided. The area has a daily market with fabulous fish and vegetables. Altogether this is an unusual find and a great treasure.
It has been a wonderful holiday in the heart of Rome. This little house is just we needed. It has all comforts and it is walking distance from the wonderful Trastevere.
