Omaha, NEQuaint and Convenient, both
Left on 06/14/2012 for a stay in May 2012
Ideally suited to get to most major tourist attractions but not actually in the middle of them, the flat enjoys great location. One experiences living in a Roman neighborhood (if a touristy one) with shops, markets, and other people getting up to go to work (or school). It's especially good for English speakers as 2 american universities are nearby, so more shop-owners in the area know English. Additionally, many books in the flat are in English. (The flat owner is an art historian.)
As for the apartment, it's charming, nicely decorated, and spacious with two bedrooms. Located on a little alley, it's quiet with the windows shut, even on weekends. It's about 10 degrees cooler inside than outside, but in the middle of summer, that's still hot, so windows need to be open, making it noisier. Still, there is no nightclub downstairs (contra a previous review); there is a restaurant across the street, but it's not too noisy. I brought earplugs and never needed them.
The kitchen is well-supplied with dishes; I cooked there several times. It's a gas range and oven. Large fridge. Only thing it didn't have was a microwave. The washing machine is small by us standards, but typical by European. Instructions are in Italian but I figured it out pretty fast. There is a large rack for drying clothes.
The shower might pose the biggest issue, at least for tall people. A large man over 6 feet could use it, but would have to be careful. Not a problem for small people like me. :-) The flat also has a computer, wi-fi, a telephone, blow-drier, iron, and fans.
A last note: the owner and her daughter are lovely people who bent over backwards to help us out, answering questions during our stay when issues popped up that we needed help for (e.g., I had to get an additional memory card for my camera, and Fabia told me just where I could find a shop). They speak fluent English.
I would/will stay there again, if I return to Rome. -

Folsom, CALive like the Romans do!
Left on 04/10/2012 for a stay in April 2012
This flat is a wonderful place for a stay in Rome! It's fairly spacious compared to many of the other local rentals (2 rooms & 3 beds!). Here's the basic run down:
pros
Trastevere has a busy night life (food, pubs, etc.)
The flat is close to taxis, bus & train
Markets (fresh produce & grocery stores) are nearby
atms are walking distance
lots of local restaurants take credit cards (Il Conte do Monticristo & Ristorante di Massi were favorites of ours)
You can walk to the Vatican, Coliseum, Circus Maximus & many other tourist sites
Plenty of gellaterias nearyby
Has 2 actual bedrooms plus a foldout couch
PC is available to use
Wifi is free
The property has a washing machine & an enclosed patio to hang your clothes
There is a refrigerator/freezer to use
Kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, dishes, cookware (I didn't want for anything)
Lots of tourist info & maps are available in the flat
cons
The busy night life can get a little noisy (just close the window & most of the noise is muffled)
There is no lift (not a problem for me, but if you have mobility issues, this might not work for you)
Parking is tight (my suggestion - don't bring a car)
Because I was burned once, I'm very careful about using vacation rentals. Roman Reference did a great job handling this transaction! I had tried to rent several different properties but none were available. Paola from Roman Reference sent me a list of available properties & the flat on Vicolo del Bologna was what I ended up with. What a deal! Great price, a safe neighborhood & perfect location! Fabia, the property owner, is very helpful, speaks fluent English & is very responsive to communications. You'll feel well taken care of if you rent this flat! I would definitely stay here again. -

Left on 01/13/2012 for a stay in January 2012
The apartment has a very good location! The flat is very authentic. And at the same time have everything you need - own heating system, high speed internet. We had small problem with heating on the first day but it was solved by the owner in several hours! I would recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to see and feel the Rome!

Eindhoven, NetherlandsAuthentical appartment
Left on 05/21/2010 for a stay in May 2010
The appartment in the midsth of the lively neighbourhood Trastevere is very authentical (books, photographs, mirrors, there is no empty space on the walls here). A nice place to start visiting this overwhelming city.
Minor problems: a small bathroom and kitchen and the noice people make in the weekend when they go home from the pub.
But overall: a recommended stay. -

HamburgA original flat in a lively district
Left on 10/23/2009 for a stay in October 2009
A comfortable and cosy flat with lot of pictures on the walls, lot of books and lot of lamps, which don't give so much light.
The mattresses were o.k. but we didn't like one big blanket for two persons in a double-bed. Although in Rome everywhere in the parks the water consumption is very high in the flat the dropping shower and kitchen water tap should get repared. -

The apartment was located in a charming, picturesque neighborhood
with shops and nice restaurants close by. In fact a very good restaurant
is just out the front door of the apartment building. Many of the major
sights in Rome are within walking distance. When we arrived at the
apartment, the owner who was very gracious and helpful walked us
around the immediate area introducing us to shop and restaurant
owners and explaining the lay of the land. The apartment itself is
attractively decorated with artwork and prints. It had all the comforts
of home with spacious rooms, a kitchen with everything you could
possibly need, a small but quite functional marble bathroom, a
computer, and a telephone. I would certainly stay there again and
would not hesitate to recommend the apartment to friends. -

Renting this flat was a good idea. It is well located, well equiped, very authentic and cosy. Last but not least the owner really takes care about his guest.
