187147Loved the location, apartment could be better
Left on 11/23/2011 for a stay in October 2011
Our family of 4 spent a week staying in this apartment and loved the location, less so the apartment.
The good parts
The booking process with Friendly Rentals was very positive. Their website is well designed and easy to use. Questions about the apartment were answered very quickly. They provided a lot of useful information regarding our stay in Rome and also booked transfers at the beginning / end of our stay. The flexibility of the apartment manager in being able to accommodate a very early check out on our last day was much appreciated.
We found the apartment to be perfectly located. It was well situated for all of the sightseeing activities we undertook in Rome. Being within 5 to 10 minutes walking distance of Pizzza Navona and Campo de' Fiori meant we had a huge choice of restaurants on our doorstep, not to mention the many interesting little side streets to explore.
Based on past experience renting in Italy, this is a very generously sized apartment. The two upstairs bedrooms are large with generous amounts of storage space. The downstairs living space is open plan and of a good size. Albeit the kitchen area is quite small with a limited amount of bench space (with so many good restaurants not really an issue)
The apartment is generally quite well equipped, there are however some omissions. The kitchen is missing both a microwave and a toaster and we found it strange that there is a washing machine but no dryer (not even a drying rack).
The not so good
The photographs on Tripadviser present a very bright apartment. I can only imagine that these have somehow been digitally enhanced as we found the apartment to be rather dark. This is due to a combination of location (the apartment is located off a small side street meaning limited available natural light) and the lack of windows in the apartment. The upstairs main bedroom is the only room with large windows. The second bedroom and downstairs living area both possess only small windows.
The biggest disappointment was the overall condition in which we found the apartment. The advertisement states that the apartment has been renovated. Whilst the basic structure of the apartment is OK, it seems that basic maintenance is lacking.
Many electrical sockets could not be used as the connection point had been pushed out of the mounting plate (presenting not only an inconvenience but also a potential safety hazard). In the upstairs bathroom some of the floor tiles at the entrance of room are cracked and loose and the hose for the hand held shower head was “repaired” with silver duct tape.
On the day we checked in we were told that the upstairs toilet seat had just been broken and would be repaired in the following days. Despite reminding the manager, it remained broken at the end of our stay.
