    Additional notes from owner

This includes twice weekly cleaning of the Villa, all bed linen and towels, including pool towels, a welcome hamper of food and drink, personal bathrobes and slippers, hairdryers, all pool and garden maintenance and the services of
your personal housekeeping and management team throughout your stay who are on hand to help you with anything whatsoever that you need.

We also make sure the house is stocked with all the necessary items to make your stay comfortable, and which (from our experience) are most frustrating when you have to spend your first day at the supermarket buying them all, only to leave them all behind when you leave! So the house will be stocked
with all the salt/peppers, olive oils, herbs, sugars, dishwasher tablets, washing powers, conditioners, dish clothes, scourers etc.

The Villa also hosts your own little 'honesty - bodega', stocked with local wines for you to enjoy. We, and your Housekeeper are great fans of many local wines, and source many which you can't buy in the shops, so we created a special "Casa Sonana Bodega" and you can get a good flavour of the Spanish vineyards in the comfort of the Villa !

Indeed, if your visit to the area is for anything 'special' then should you wish to share this with us, we will arrange a little something 'special' to help with the celebrations also!

Additional services we can also help you with are :
    • pre-arrival grocery shopping service
    • Laundry services and dry cleaning.
    • Daily Housekeeping
    • Local Cook to buy, prepare, cook and serve lunches and/or dinners.
    • Babysitting.
    • Airport pick up / drop off.

Should you wish to come to the Villa just for a few days, mid-week or weekend, then just email me with your dates. Outwith the high season, we often accommodate this.

This is a picturesque part of the world with a laid back way of life. Casa Sonana sits at a great vantage point in the valley, blending into the traditional surroundings but with a contemporary interior that will appeal to those who like the trappings of modern living.

Stayed with the family and enjoyed wonderful weather by the pool, strolls into the village and pizza from the wood-fired oven adjacent to the kitchen.

Fantastic place to stay. Highly recommended. We'll be back.

Outstanding villa- and the locals are friendly!!

Left on 05/12/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We stayed for 5 days in april with friends. The villa is beautiful- couldn't fault a thing! It looks traditionally Spanish from the outside but is very contemporary within. Spotlessly clean, comfortable, relaxing- the gardens and views are sensational.
Having lived in Spain years ago, we loved rediscovering this area. You are close enough to all the major towns of this part of Spain, while still having Ronda and the pueblo of arriate on your doorstep. We found the locals extremely friendly- and, in fact, they knew the "Casa" and made us feel welcome. We could almost kid ourselves we weren't tourists.
Only regret is we didn't have longer- next time its a full week (or maybe two...?!).

Short flight from Glasgow. Car hire simple. Straightforward drive to arriate. 3 Blissful happy days in great company. Straight home and sat in my office for 3 days thinking about what a great relaxing and rewarding break I had.

Arriate is very welcoming and Ronda is stunning. I had an expert guide from Wallace Tours who showed me all that is best about Ronda including the Tapas bars and the best restaurants.

Sitting on the porch, we sat and just breathed in the view across the hills and the time seemed to just go by.

This place is absolutely effortless. It just gets you the moment you arrive. You don't even have to try. It's a lovely feeling to feel you've arrived somewhere you already know.

My husband and I stayed at Casa Sonana for 3 weeks in March 2011. The villa is excellent - the best we have stayed in, as not only was it comfortable, well equipped and warm on cold evenings it also had wonderful views and was near a village for easy access to shops. For those who love walking it is an ideal location as you can walk in the hills close to the villa or go on many that are only a short drive away.

We had a fantastic week in Casa Sonana. The villa is superb and even better than the pictures.
It is slightly off the beaten track so right in the heart of andalucia a real escape from the coastal tourist hotspots.
Everything about the place is great and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

We can't seem to stay away; this was our fourth visit to Villa Casa Sonana. Our young girls simply love it and so do we.

It is so peaceful and the views are spectacular. Wonderful lazy days by the pool or delicious tapas not to far away. For the more active minded there is good walking or bike riding in the mountains.

The house is a delightful mix of comfort and contemporary chic. Owners Jill and Calum seem to have thought of every thing from the outdoor pizza oven to a well stocked library.

Left on 10/05/2010 for a stay in August 2010

We stayed at Casa Sonana for a few days at the end of august. It is beautiful and a real treat for visitors. Internally the design and finish is of the highest order whilst externally the villa sits in a private location with commanding views across open countryside. There is a large pool plus a small kids pool in the garden. The villa is well equipped and everything works. All rooms had been well prepared prior to our visit and it was spotless. We ate outside throughout our stay and enjoyed cooking with the pizza oven, which was a big hit with our kids.

Really can't recommend this highly enough. We had a fantastic time here and would happily return in the future. This is a aAa villa and we loved it.

A week of complete relaxation in a beautiful setting.

Left on 09/28/2010 for a stay in August 2010

On arrival at the villa, guests are greeted by the hosts who are very friendly and helpful and also very knowledgeable about the local area, things to do, places to eat etc. Casa Sonana itself is a joy to stay in, being spacious, light, immaculately kept and in a beautiful location with idyllic views across a valley. The small town of arriate (5minutes away) provides plenty in the way of small grocery shops and one or two excellent bars to while away the time with a beer and homemade tapas. Ronda is definitely worth at least one trip or though we needed two to see the sites. The surrounding mountainous area is breathtaking and visiting some of the little "white towns" is a must. Best thing of all: sitting on the balony first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee and listening to the sound of the bells around the necks of the goats/sheep (not sure which!) as they're put out to pasture.

      Andalucian Relaxation

Left on 09/07/2010 for a stay in August 2010

This was our second stay at Casa Sonana and once again the fabulous location and beautiful house provided a relaxing holiday in andalucia. We enjoyed much food and wine sitting on the shaded terrace overlooking the valley and the Sierra de las Salinas. Such a beautiful and captivating view.

For two weeks Casa Sonana really felt like home, the pool obviously being a big hit with the children! The house is always spotlessly clean and very comfortable.

Arriate is an attractive village only 10 minutes walk from Casa Sonana. This is a huge advantage; a feeling of being away from it all but within easy reach of a lively village. Arriate has many tapas bars (Almercin being our favourite), grocers and a bakers for fresh vegetables and bread. And a short 15 minute drive takes you to Ronda with its wealth of restaurants, interesting old town and dramatic gorge.

Thanks to Jill and Callum for providing such a lovely home to from which to enjoy the area and the andalucian countryside, culture and sun! Also, thanks to Nikki and Joe for their welcome (and re-stocking of the wine rack during our stay!).

We were all sorry to leave and will certainly return to Casa Sonana for a third time.

I stayed at Vills Casa Sonana in May this year with a group of girl friends and had the most amazing time! Our journey was not only very easy but beautful, a very scenic drive from the airport to Ronda. The villa is absolutely beautiful, very stylish but also comfortable and your every need is catered for! The interior is beautifully designed and could be a feature for 'Homes and Gardens'! The terrace and pool area are a joy for all ages with a 'baby pool' for the little ones and a good sized pool for swimming. I had a perfect time and was reluctant to leave!

Having read the previous reviews on Trip advisor before booking Casa Sonana I thought this villa seemed to good to be true; so on my return I now feel compelled to let others know that it is indeed all it claims to be ...and more! The previous reports are 100% accurate in protraying the luxury of the villa, the stunning unobstructed views of the countryside, the tranquil ambience and local culture that my only worry is that the villa will be so fully occupied in the future that I spoil my own chances of rebooking!
I personally enjoyed sitting in the floating gallery which contains a wealth of reading material and a cd collection ranging from Flamenco to Madonna - I cant wait to get back and work my way through it.
If you have been looking for the perfect andalusian experience coupled with luxurious home comforts then I would recommend you call off the search!

What a perfect spot to get away from it all yet still be within reasonable distance of everything one might need.

The villa itself is well maintained and very clean / comfortable with every facility in tip-top working order. Local cleaning and "support service" is welcome, without being in the way of the peace and quiet.

Local eats and drinks are very reasonably prices and authentic Spanish, not the usual tourist-trap tripe too often experienced on the coast.

The master bedroom balcony was my favourite place to perch with a book and glass of wine, overlooking the green and pleasant countryside below.

We can't wait to book again hopefully to share the experience with our family as there's plenty of room for all.

Should have set my SatNav instead of allowing my wife to navigate but once I found the turning - wow - what a welcome - Spanish sun setting over the valley that you come to view as your own personal postcard.
The villa itself is in pristine condition yet you feel at home at once. Again it takes a couple of visits to learn your way around the village but it has much more to offer than you'd expect when you're far from the madding crowd. A must is lunch (or two) in Ronda which is only a short drive away.

Any regrets? Yes - I wish our wider family could have been there to share the experience. Maybe there will be an opportunity to return with them soon.

Hola. thanks for your comments - appreciated and glad you had a great time at Villa Casa Sonana. Luckily you didnt set your SatNav as they still register the Villa as a "field" and you may have ended up somewhere different ! We would love to welcome you all back - just contact me when you wish to do so. Until then, Saludos ! Jill.

A beautiful holiday villa in a stunning location

Left on 06/20/2010 for a stay in June 2010

I stayed at Villa Casa Sonana for a long weekend and was blown away at how beautiful it was, it is a perfect place to chill out and get away from city life. Travelling from Malaga airport it was a surprisingly easy and enjoyable drive over countryside. It is in a picturesque setting with lovely views over the hills and very private. The villa was very comfortable and luxurious, stylishly fitted with luxury bathrooms. It is very well equipped with everything you would need if you don't want to leave the villa. If you can tear yourself away the nearest village called Ariate is very Spanish with lots of bars selling delicious tapas. Ronda is nearby too and definately worth visiting, good for shopping and tapas. The pool area is lovely with a well kept very large garden area - we enjoyed eating the cherries from the fruit trees growing there! I had such a lovely time there I didn't want to leave, can't wait to go back.

We were looking for a villa that offered significant comfort and user-friendliness in a beautiful setting but close enough to towns with good services and allowing great day trips. Casa Sonana could not have been better. Honestly, we didn't want to leave. Jill and Callum thought of everything that might make their guests feel at home, worry-free and informed about not only the house but also its surroundings. Don't think twice about renting this villa...we would do it again in a heartbeat.

A wonderful holiday at Casa Sonana

Left on 06/04/2010 for a stay in May 2010

Beautiful views, delicious local food and sumptuous surroundings. What more could you ask for on holiday. Villa Casa Sonana has it all and we will definitely be booking again next year.

Jill provided an excellent service prior to going on the holiday and even during our stay her team were on hand to make sure we had everything we needed.

Whether we ate out in the local village or dined in and used the barbecue or pizza oven it was just wonderful. Watching the sun set over the mountains from the villa was just breathtaking.

      10 out of 10!

A gorgeous house in stunning surroundings

Left on 02/27/2010 for a stay in July 2009

Our group of friends loved everything about our stay at this fabulous house - from stylishly finished bedrooms and bathrooms to the well-stocked kitchen, from the outdoor pizza oven to the refreshing pool. It was nice to wake to the distant tinkling of bells as the goats were herded up the valley and picking your own sun-warmed apricot straight from the tree is a special treat.

The housekeepers Ursula and Paul are full of good recommendations for tapas bars, restaurants and day trips in the surrounding area. In addition, they are great cooks so do take advantage of having a night at 'home' while they serve up delicious fare by the pool! The in-house cellar is a great idea, stocking the tried and tested wines of the area at very reasonable prices. A local artist's work is featured on the walls - and if you particularly like a piece then you can buy it to take home (as we did)

The website created for the house is very useful - with information on walks, daytrips, shops, restaurants and the like - taking the hassle out of doing your own research. There is plenty to do and see in this area (and eat and drink!) - we found a week was too short and wish we'd stayed longer!

      Villa Casa Sonana

Left on 02/26/2010 for a stay in June 2009

A fantastic modern villa in a peaceful, rural Anadalucian surrounding.

We had a very relaxing week here, lounging by the pool and having a bbq every day.

The villa is a stone's throw away from the small village of Arriate which has some great tapas bars (take torches for the way back!), and an easy cab ride away from Ronda.

A perfect retreat for those that primarily want peace and quiet. Equally, it nonetheless has the benefit of plenty of things to do within a comfortable distance - if you can tear yourself away.

A true gem in the heart of rural spain

Left on 02/25/2010 for a stay in September 2009

We booked Casa Sonana on the recommendation of friends, as we had never visited this part of Spain before, and from the outset we were not dissapointed, starting off with a easy drive from Malaga ( note route E15- then A397 through through the mountains......WOW. Sonana is situated in Arriate( and in walking distance of the centre), a lively village buzz and plenty of local eateries and bodegas etc. Upon our arrival we were greeted by our hosts who quite simply could not do enough to ensure that we would have a great time, but to be honest after the drive through the mountains, a quick stop in Arriate and checking our the villa and its location, we already knew that we were going to have a wonderful holiday. The villa is not only airy, light and spacious but the "vibe" of modern design in the middle of traditional Andalucia is a great combination. Equipped with everything you need, the owners of Sonana have left nothing to the imagination and with local amenities within walking distance (some great local wines and the famous Pata Negra (Iberico Ham) are definate must haves. Also the choice and quality of the local tapas on offer is nothing like I've had in the UK. . For me what I truly loved on this trip was the feel of "real" Spain coupled with the luxury of Sonana. This is a great holiday home, in a fantatsic part of Andalucia, suitable I'd say not only for families but also groups and we will certainly be back...... I only hope its not fully booked for 2010.

We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday in Villa Casa Sonana... cooked some
fabulous spanish food, paella, tortilla, gazpacho, pesce, Morrocan lamb to
      name a few!

Also sampled the Tapas in the wonderful bars in Arriate. Loved 'El Almacen'
with it's buzzy atmosphere and friendly owner! Visited Ronda a few times,
and we had a mini trip to Granada to visit the wonder that is the
Alhambra.... the evening brought us a wonderful meal at The Mirador de
Morayma restaurant with perfect views of the Palace and we then stayed in
Granada that evening in a wonderful little Moorish hotel.

Casa Sonana was so relaxing that we spent many days just cooking,
      reading, swimming with many siestas!

The Sun was fierce but with a beautiful cooling breeze. We dragged
ourselves away from Casa Sonana to visit the local area - had an amazing
visit to the Cave La Pileta, incredible.

We spent a wonderful day at a beach on the Costa De La Luz - no English to
be seen or heard! (apart from us!) with a fabulous Churringita on the beach
cooking fresh fish to order for our lunch - squid, octopus, tuna, prawns ....
      delicious!

Ursula and Paul were great and very helpful, it was lovely to have all our
shopping done on our arrival and the Villa was kept so clean throughout
our stay - we felt quite spoilt!

Thank you for the use of your wonderful Villa - we are counting the days
until we can return next year!

Superb Property in a great location - The real Spain

Left on 02/19/2010 for a stay in October 2009

If you are looking for a "chill out" break in the real Spain then Casa Sonana is the perfect place.

We stayed for a week in late October 2009.
Situated 10 minutes walk from a typical Andalucian white village - Arriate with its numerous Tapas bars (we lost count!) and 10mins drive from beautiful Ronda, the house is set on the side of a hill affording wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

First impressions of the house are a “wow†factor.
It has a traditional look on the outside but is very contemporary inside with large open plan living, dining and kitchen area with feature fireplace and large sliding windows onto the terrace with great views of the olive groves and hills. It has a great gallery library which overlooks the living area.

We didn’t use the whole house but with 4 large bedrooms (all with large ensuite bathrooms) the house is perfect for large families or groups of friends.

The large swimming pool and small kids pool and large garden are fab for the kids to play in, including grown up ones!

Unfortunately we were too late to take advantage of the fruit trees in the orchard, but the almonds that someone had picked previously and left were very tasty.

We were really spoiled because the weather was absolutely glorious even by Spain’s standards for October, and the pool was in use most days.

We were well looked after by the management team, who look after the property, and as they live locally, know everything about the area - what to see, where to eat etc.

      Likes:
The house, the area, sitting on the terrace having a glass of wine and watching the sunset.

      Dislikes:
      None !

      Will I be back – Definitely !

      Luxury in Andalucia!

Left on 02/17/2010 for a stay in April 2009

Casa Sonana is a stunning modern house set in a stunning rural location. We
have stayed there several times, and in each case the overall experience has
been wonderful. Locally, there are loads of things to do and places to visit, but
I have to confess that Villa Sonana is so comfortable we spent a lot of our time
back at the house chilling out! It is one of the few villas we have rented that is
actually much more beautiful than any photographs on the website. I have no
reservations about recommending this property as the base for a memorable
      holiday in Andalucia.

Fantastic holiday accommodaiton in real rural Spain

Left on 02/16/2010 for a stay in June 2009

Villa Casa Sonana is a beautiful house situated in the countryside, with lovely views, in real rural Spain yet only 20 minutes away from bustling Rhonda. The house has everything and more you could wish for, both inside and out, to make your holiday accommodation first class. Eating out in the nearby Restaurants with the local people is highly recommended. One of the best we have been to and will definitely return!

Beautiful rural location but with easy access to Ronda

Left on 02/16/2010 for a stay in October 2009

Jill Chalmers could not have been more helpful in the planning of our October family holiday. She provides so much information regarding the local area, things perfect for families, restaurants, etc, she was a wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble. Villa Casa Sonana is beautiful, it is close enough to the village but still has an uninterrupted view of the surrounding countryside, the light changes so much during the day and early evening but always from the villa you have a great view. The house is so clean, has all the things you need when on holiday with a young family, a great outside space and large bedrooms with even wonderful ensuite bathrooms. We had so much space we could have had another family with us and not noticed. We spent most of the holiday around the pool and visits to Ronda and for one week in the sun, that was just perfect. Jill's friends who manage the villa when you are there, are wonderful, helpful, great ideas for daytrips, provide great local wine and are there if you need them during your stay.
The best thing about the villa is the location and the house itself, the least is maybe that pool can be cold when the sun is not fully out - with two girls who out their swimming suits on after breakfast that was a challenge but it always warmed up in the afternoon. We would definately stay again.

      Five star holiday experience

Left on 02/15/2010 for a stay in October 2009

Our two week stay at the Villa Casa Sonana was like staying at a 5 star
luxury retreat set in a beautifully peaceful and secluded valley, abundant
with olive groves, near Ronda in southern Spain. The villa presentation was
superb and the accommodation first class.

Paul and Ursula (representing the owners) were on tap pretty much 24/7
and we could not have been in better hands when it came to looking after
our needs and recommending places to visit and where to eat.
The local village of Arriate, just a short stroll away, provided a glimpse of
village life that exemplified rural Spain.

Ronda, the last Moorish bastion 10 minutes away by car, provided
everything needed to make our stay truly memorable.

The villa's location provides easy access to all the major towns in southern
      Spain.

Finally, and not a major issue, access to the villa is by a rather rough
concrete driveway and we would hope that this may be rectified in the
      future.
