Melbournehome comforts close to town

The Maruata mud hut was a great place to come home to after a day of sightseeing. The attention to detail and the art work was impressive. With the owner living across the road, any problems which arose were quickly dealt with.. The genuine thermal pool in the front garden was a real bonus and extra towels were supplied for outside use.
Our teenagers enjoyed the thermal park near by and the fact that the centre of town was just a short walk away.
This small home, central to everything in Rotorua, was so much better than a hotel room in every way. Our twelve year old granddaughter was obviously impressed with the spa pool. During a talk on local radio yesterday , it was mentioned as one of the highlights of her trip to New Zealand. -

My husband, 20 month old son and I stayed at Maruata with my sister and her partner. I have to say that it exceeded my expectations.
The owner was friendly and helpful. We made a last minute booking and despite him being away from town he made it really easy for us to book in.
The house was great. It was clean, beautifully finished with great local art and best of all for me, very child friendly ( as long as we closed the ranch sliders that led out to the pool - but this still left my son with outdoor area to explore). This was the part that was great; a tasteful, beautiful place that was toddler friendly. Who would have thought?
The beds were comfortable and they set up a portacot for my little guy.
The kitchen was well equipped and they offer a great wine selection at extremely good prices.
We walked into towm one night - not far but busy roads all the way so not the quiet stroll I was imagining but this didn't bother me too much.
The best of all was the hot pool. There was no need to go anywhere to enjoy a relaxed soak and there was wine on hand and a very private setting. That was the great thing. This house is in a normal residential area, quite close to the other houses but the way it has been set up makes it really private.
We had a great stay and I would definitely come back and recommend this place to others. -

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Maruata Mud Hut, based primarily on a very favourable review in a travel publication we had read. We found everything to be excellent during our stay. The owner, Oscar, and his family lives across the street, and we had the entire property to ourselves. It is a very tastefully decorated 2 bedroom house, with all the amenities one would expect in a house (air conditioning, flatscreen TV with tons of channels, full kitchen, etc.).
The property is situated just outside of Kuirau Park, which is a geothermal park, and makes for a great short walk into town (about 10 mins). There is a convenience store 30 seconds away to stock the kitchen with if required, and best of all the property has a thermal bath which is incredible!
I cannot think of a better way to experience Rotorua. We had all the privacy in the world, but knew that he was across the street if we needed anything. His mom even taxied us around (thanks!) and dropped us off when we were departing for auckland.
In short, you are getting a house to yourself, and a very nice one at that. I highly recommend this option. Oscar was fantastic to deal with over the internet, and everything was exactly as described, if not better. The photos posted on the internet are exactly as the property appears.
Thanks Oscar! -

What a great place to stay: the cottage is situated in a quiet residential area, an ideal location for sightseeing in, and around, Rotorua. It's a 10 minute walk to the Lake and town centre. The cottage is spotlessly clean and has all mod cons, everything you could need for a short or extended stay. A bonus was the outdoor natural spa - wonderful to soak in after a hard days sightseeing. Oscar, the owner and his family were very attentive, made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for making our holiday so memorable Oscar, we would certainly recommend the cottage and your hospitality to our family and friends.
