We had a lovely experience in your home Heather & Mike and we will definetly be returning. We had family come from Niue to attend Raggamuffin and this was the best location very secluded, quiet and no smelly eggs. Home is very cosy and homely we will definetly be returning next summer.

Beautiful location, right on the lake, peaceful with a lovely garden.
We had a quiet and comfortable stay. There is lots of space for the family to relax and we really enjoyed the BBQ on the deck. Decor is dated (70's?) but we found this quite charming. Perfect for 2 couples or a family.
Heather and Mike made the whole booking and arriving process very easy and were very helpful with what to do. We thought the location was perfect for a range of activities in and around Rotorua. After a busy day you can then retreat back lakeside to recover!Response from Heather & Mike - 02/03/2013

Delighted you enjoyed the cottage & Rotorua. Agree that the decor adds to the charm and cosy feeling.

Fabulous, clean, family friendly bach, run by a great couple. They provided us with loads of handy info to help make the most of our stay. The bach is in a fab location on the lake, and the vista constantly changes. Happily recommend to others. Cheers

We stayed at the cottage over the Easter break and had a wonderful relaxing holiday. The cottage was lovely and clean, well presented and with a view to die for. Mike and Heather were wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thanks for the trout and the recommendations of where to go and what to see, especially the evening concert and kiwi house. This was a highlight for the family. We would love to return.

We stayed here two nights with another couple. Lovely location (no sulphur smells here!) and good tips from Heather and Mike on things to see and do. The views are just stunning and the cottage very comfortable -- it's not glamourous or posh but that's part of its charm -- it looks like people really live there. We had the use of one of their kayaks during our visit. I couldn't stop taking photos of the views. Sunsets were extra special. Could have easily stayed much longer.

Hi Barbara, I hope & and your friends can return one day. We have had crisp frosty mornings followed by beautiful days and more lovely sunsets. Possibly a little chilly for the kayaks though.

The accommodation was fabulous for a family of 6. Home away from home. Our family had a terrific holiday enjoying the highlights around Rotorua. The hot springs, swimming, catching the most delicious trout, mad mountain biking in the most pristine redwood forest we have seen. I highly recommend this holiday as the most relaxing, scenic, enjoyable and action packed if you so desire for all ages

A beautiful place to stay, right on the lake. Close enough to Rotorua and far enough to escape the sulphur smell. Excellent hospitality, Mike and Heather have excellent local knowledge givng us great tips on what to do and will even help you book places to go. The cottage is really clean and tidy with everything you need. There is loads of space for little ones to run/crawl around.
Our family really enjoyed our stay there, and recommend this beautiful cottage to anyone thinking to going to Rotorua. -

Heather and Mike's warm hospitality made our stay very memorable. We loved spending Christmas in Rotorua, visiting the mud pools and the other attractions they suggested. We were treated to fresh trout the afternoon Mike went fishing, and enjoyed a traditional Maori feast at Tamaki Village. The feast was an exceptional experience for our kids, one they won't soon forget. The cottage had plenty of space to spread out, throw a rugby ball around and feed the swans which, again, made our stay very comfortable.

Wished we could have stayed longer at this great home right on the lake edge.
Near enough to Rotorua for sightseeing there but wonderful to come home to the tranquility and peace of Nicara cottage.
We had a log fire to keep us cosy, and all other amenities we could want.
Thankyou to our friendly hosts. -

We spent a very enjoyable 4 days in Rotorua, staying at Nicara Cottage, which is located 5mins drive out of Rotorua on the lake. There are no sulphur smells and it is so peaceful to wake up to a view of the lake and swans. The Cottage was very comfortable and spacious for our family of five, with a beautiful garden to sit/run/play in Had the weather been slightly better we would have had a BarBQ on the deck overlooking the garden and lake. Mike and Heather were lovely hosts, very helpful and informative about the many places to visit and eat at in Rotorua.

I stayed in the Nicara cottage with my wife and parents in late November 2011. The cottage itself is in a great location, on the edge of Rotorua so away from the hussle and bussle in town.
The cottage itself is well equiped and furnished and probably looks even better than the photos on the website. The highlight of the accomodation is its setting on the lake. The views are stunning.
However, the real benefit of this cottage is Mike abd Heather, the owners. On our first night Mike came a talked us through an itinerary and helped to book our excursions which were all very good. They really couldnt do enough to help and it realy ensured that we made the most of our time there.Response from Heather & Mike - 12/10/2011

beautiful setting with amazing sunrise views. Condition facilities in the house were very good and we apprreciated the wood for the fireplace during the freezing winter evenings.
Only problem we had was with the heating in the main bedroom (room facing the lake) and the electric blanket on the right hand side of the double-bed (opposite the window) which did not work. -

Left on 07/14/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We fell in love with the house on the lake. The interior and exterior are fabulous and the back garden should be featured in a magazine. For the price of a hotel room we were able to enjoy our own private home slightly away from the "smell" of Rotorua but so close you were there in 10 minutes. We went in Winter and would love to return in the Summer. Heather and Mike were great hosts and really had great input of where to go and what to see in our limited time there. Having the dock on the lake was great since we are bird watchers and the black swans were very photogenic as was the lake and island in the middle. I would highly recommend this cabin for anyone from honeymooners to families with kids.

We rented Nicara Lakeside Cottage for four nights and found it to be just perfect for our needs, it was spacious, comfortable, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The cottage is beautifully situated in pretty gardens overlooking the lake. Mike and Heather the owners who reside four doors away in Nicara Lodge were very friendly and hospitable, inviting us to join them and their lodge guests for delicious canapes and wine. They also are incredibly helpful in giving the best advice in how to spend your time in the Rotarua area and also know the best restaurants. It was a pleasure to meet Mike and Heather and we thank them for making our stay so special.

Handy to everything, this was the ideal spot for a family break. And the views and garden were just a delight to enjoy. Thank you Mike and Heather, your advice and information was invaluable.

Superb location, right on Lake Rotorua with its own private beach and jetty! Our two young boys loved being so close to the water and we enjoyed the wonderful sunrise views across the lake each morning.
The breakfast welcome pack and toiletries were a nice touch and we appreciated the suggested itineraries provided by Mike and Heather.

After looking around for a quiet place to take my mother away to for the weekend after surgery I finally settled on Heather an Mikes Nicara lodge.
I wanted somewhere relaxed and peaceful for mum to take it easy and not have to think about anything.
Nicara was perfect.
We arrived on a stormy winter night, the heater was on, there was a hot water bottle in Mums bed and our hosts had even supplied breakfast.
Mike helped us with sightseeing itineraries and they even supplied a scrabble board for us to while away the lazy weekend while we looked out across the amazing view of lake Rotorua.
All in all this was a great experience and I have no problem recommending Nicara to anyone.
Thanks Heather and Mike.Response from Heather & Mike - 08/23/2010
