St. Pierre de Juillers, FranceAbsolutely stunning
Left on 05/11/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We stayed here for 4 nights in april and used it as a base to explore the Rotorua area. We had a wonderful time and could of spent 2 weeks or more here. The house was amazing. There was so much space and the whole place is designed to take advantage of the stunning lake front location with huge sliding windows opening onto a deck with hot tub. The manager, Karen, provided 4 kayaks and 2 dingys which the four children (7, 8, 10 & 11yrs) absolutely loved, my brother and his eldest actually kayaked to the island which was a fair distance away.
There were 7 of us, so we used 5 of the 6 bedrooms (the children loved having a double bed to themselves !) The 6th bed is in the 'granny flat' which is separate to the house - we didn't even look in there as we didn't want the kids messing it up ! The kitchen is very well stocked with crockery, cutlery and some dry goods too; well equipped with dishwasher, cooker, toaster, kettle, microwave ie everything you have in your own home . The washing machine and dryer came in very handy since the kids were constantly wet from the lake, beach and spa. (not to mention washing our swimmers after bathing in hot sulphurous mud pools !) The wifi is excellent and free. The bed linen good quality and enough towels to always have a dry one every time the kids came in from the spa.
The house is in a residential cul de sac so the only rule of the house is no 'socialising' outside after 10pm so I think the house is best suited to families or older couples who are worn out after a long days sightseeing and in bed by 10pm like us ! It was in the perfect location - handy for all the sights and it was nice not actually being in Rotorua - which is big, sprawling and I expect noisy at night. There really is no need to be in the town as it is a drive to all the attractions anyway.
The sunrise is simply stunning and with windows on two sides of the master bedroom looking out over the lake you have the perfect place to watch it from (in bed !) There is lots of heating, including a log fire too, we were there in autumn and the weather wasn't great - a bit cool and damp whilst we were there but we never felt cold in the house at all and only needed the heating for an hour in the morning and evening at most.
Karen was very helpful and made sure we knew how to work everything and even organised drinks with the owners who were staying next door in the 'retreat', which was lovely.
Highly recommend this property, Excellent value for money - the best value we had through all our two weeks in New Zealand, perfect for our family, if we can return to New Zealand we will definitely stay there again. There really are no negative points at all.
