We couldn't have been luckier in our decision to spend our Easter holidays
in Roundstone this year. The weather was unseasonably, unfeasibly perfect:
blue skies, light winds, warm sunshine. The trip from Dublin was fast; only
two hours to Galway. Once through Oughterard, the Connemara National
Park opened up before us, brought into perfect focus by the unbelievable
clarity of the air. I could feel myself instantly relax. We wound into
Roundstone about tea-time and found the apartment immediately thanks to
the excellent directions we'd been given. A parking space is provided at
the back, but we had no problem finding one on the street outside, despite
the evident bustle of the Easter crowds. We were delighted to find that the
large, bright living/dining/kitchen area had an open fire and beautiful views
of the harbour and, beyond, to the Twelve Pins. The apartment is located
just doors from the nearest (excellent) pub, and only a minute from all the
action: the shops, the hotels, the restaurants. And yet because it is the
right side of town, at night it was quiet and we slept like babies in our
comfy beds. I love to cook, and was delighted to find excellent knives and
saucepans to hand. And joy of joys, the shower was strong and hot. Two
incredible, blazing white coral beaches lie just outside the town, and even
at Easter, there were swimmers bobbing about. We climbed the "mountain"
behind the town to glorious views, drove to Clifden to shop, pounded the
beaches and took the boat trip around Killary Harbour followed by a
delicious dinner in Leenane. There were so many other things we could
have done (lunch/scrabble in the Ballynahinch Hotel, fishing, biking - there
are great trails) but simply didn't have the time for. All of which means, we'll
just have to go back again!
I have been lucky enough to stay in this apartment on a couple of occasssions in recent years and the service has always been the same ...excellent!
Milan and Leonie have decorated this gorgeous apartment in a funky cool style that is relaxed, unfuzzy and in the holiday spirit.
The apartment has every little thing you could want and the many candles add a lovely touch when the sun eventually goes down.
The location is 6 doors up from the famous O'Dowds seafood restaurant & pub on the main street of Roundstown close enough to stumble home from but not too close if you feel like a romantic night in front of the real turf fire.
There are a lot of amenities in the Roundstone area including fishing both sea and fresh water, sailing, walking, golf (which is excellent up at Connemara Golf Club) and cycling (The famous Bog Road Race is an annual treat).
I have been a regular vistor to this part of Ireland for over 25 years and I never tire of it's mystery and stunning beauty. The local food is excellent and the Guinness goes with everything by the way!

My wife and I spent a wonderful week in Roundstone with our 2 young children. The accommodation was very comfortable fully equipped and great for children. We were right beside the town with its restaurants and pubs and also close to the beaches and walks in and around Roundstone.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Roundstone for a holiday and Nimmo's Harbour as the ideal place to stay.
