Left on 09/03/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My 2 teenages and I stayed at Villa Ernesta for 6 nights in august. (we originally booked 4, but extended our stay as we loved it so much!) We loved our accommodations. We had a separate bedroom and living room with pull out coach, kitchen and eating area. Some apartments have balconies, views of the St. Euphemia cathedral and Rovinj. The apartments were clean, very well furnished and very comfortable. Lady Ernesta could not have been more helpful and friendly. She cooked us a wonderful crepe breakfast the day after we arrived and a delicious Croatian dinner the night before we left. We did not want to go home and will definitely return and stay at Villa Ernesta again. It also is wonderful as there is a barbeque and washing machine on the roof terrace for guests' use which came in very handy! The location is perfect as you walk out the courtyard and about 50-100 feet and you are on the water. Everything is within about a 5 minute walk. It was extremely quiet at night, but if you are looking for nightlife you are steps away. Thank you Lady Ernesta for a wonderful time in Croatia. We look forward to visiting with you again.

Fabulous stay in apartment in the heart of Rovinj town
Left on 07/25/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Great value for those travelers wanting an apartment that is self catering, air conditioned (a blessing as we stayed for a week when there was a heat wave-35 degrees plus everyday). Apartment is centrally located off Carera Street, in the heart of the old town, so has great atmosphere and is a short walk to cafes on the waterfront, shops, supermarket, restaurants and the beach. Ernesta, the owner of the apartments added a nice touch to our stay, always helpful and providing us with advice about where eat and what to see. Although Ernesta does not speak English she is able to phone up her English speaking friends who can translate if need be. We spent a lovely evening enjoying Ernesta's hospitality, she cooked us and her friends a superb fish meal typical of the region, a fun evening where good food and wine made for a memorable stay at Ernesta's apartments.

Left on 07/22/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We booked two nights in villa Ernesta via booking.com but when we checked in we were told that the price we agreed on booking.com was wrong. We had to pay 28 euros more. We agreed because it would have been difficult to find by the end of the day another place to stay. Tv was out of order and the fridge was very dirty.
be careful in Rovinj : parking places close to the old town are very expensive : 18 euros / day. villa ernesta promised us a cheap parking place but we never saw it and i wonder if they really have it. -

Adelaide, AustraliaWell appointed apartment in a great location
Left on 08/19/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We had been travelling around Europe for some weeks and were pleased to find that there was an apartment available for our desired dates. We had been to Rovinj before and were looking forward to spending some time there again. We made contact with Vedran, who is the local agent for Ernesta, the owner. We found Vedran to be most professional, he had a good command of english and gave very good instructions on how to locate the apartment. Upon our arrival we were met by Ernesta, who was a splendid host and great cook. The apartment is modern and well appointed and located in the heart of the old town of Rovinj. It is close to many restaurants, shops and various boat departure points for the sights around Rovinj. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Ernesta and would definitely stay there again.

Derby, United KingdomCharming, character filled building in the heart of Rovinj
Left on 08/11/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Villa Ernesta is a group of apartments in the centre of the beautiful town of Rovinj. The apartments are described as 4* but each varies in specification and appearance. It wasn't my idea of 4* but it was clean and functional. I would advise you clarify which one you'll be getting before you book as the photos are a mix of different rooms. Some apartments will involve numerous stairs to climb therefore not suitable for less able bodied.
We arrived earlier than expected and met by Ernesta, the owner who showed us to our apartment. She doesnt speak english but as previous reviewers have stated, she phones Vedran and passes him on to give the instructions and vital information. The rooms were basic and clean. Not sure if it was an oversight but my bed appeared to be covered with a mattress protector instead of a sheet. Not a major problem but it was fresh and clean. Towels weren't changed during our stay of 7 days, which wasn't really acceptable since it states that they are changed after 3 days. Despite this, it didn't spoil my overall impression of the place,
Kitchen facilities didn't have a kettle which I know isn't wholly unusual on the continent so my advice is to take a travel kettle if you don't want the risk of scalding using the gas stove with pan. Plenty of plastic containers for making up picnics for days out if that's what you like (although there is a notice not to take out any of the equipment!)
We had a lovely surprise on day 2 with Ernesta knocking on our door with a plateful of pancakes for breakfast. They were the most delicious pancakes ever with orange juice, zest and sugar toppings.Sadly, it was a one-off but it was a lovely touch.
I really enjoyed being in the heart of the town on the main shopping street. The double glazing provided excellent sound-proofing. The air Con was very efficient and the bed room also benefited if the door was left open. The bars and restaurants were within easy walking distance and the terrain is mainly flat in the centre. The side streets are cobbled and hilly but quaint and beautiful. The market is colourful and full of wonderful local produce. This was the only place we experienced any hard sell pressure tactics. Be wary of taxi drivers who seem to make up ridiculously inflated prices. I'm sure they were negotiable but I find it off-putting.
Bikes are a great way of getting around and Ernesta has 4 for guest use. The forest and beaches are about 15-20 minute walk. We enjoyed a boat trip around the local islands for approx. £8 which was great value. Meals were reasonably priced but wine was expensive and not the best I've tasted.
To summarise, Villa Ernesta is a great place to stay in Rovinj if you're looking for the freedom of self catering. It's comfortable, clean and well placed for all the sights and facilities Rovinj has to offer.
I'd be more than happy to stay there again. -

Left on 07/23/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Left on 07/23/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We are very happy with our stay at Villa Ernesta in Rovinj. The place is charming with nice staff. Our apartment was comfortable and pleasant. It offered cleanlines, A/C, TV and a small equipped kitchen. The area where the apartment were situated is the best in the old town, very close to everything: the harbour, restaurants, shops and both the nice city beaches. There was a nice terrace as well and possibilities to wash clothes in a machine. Although we - a swedish family of five persons - do not speak Croata or italian the language was not a problem. We liked the hotel very much, it felt indeed genuine with a croatian charm and it suited us great.
Thank you very much for the stay - it could´nt have been better! We would very much to visit you and Rovinj again! -

Left on 07/01/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Villa Ernesta offers the best in every aspect of vacation rentals: charm (we had the opportunity to stay in 2 apartments, both equally comfortable and well decorated), cleanlines (impeccable), location (situated a few steps from the harbour and a short distance from great beaches), and amenities (A/C, bicycles, washer, free Wi-Fi... not to mention Ernesta's culinary specialties!).
Ernesta is a delightful hostess. Although we do not speak Italian, communication was not a problem. Ernesta's interpreter and booking agent, Vedran Ilakovac, was available on-call to meet all our needs with great professionalism.
Ernesta is also an excellent cook, and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner on the villa's guest patio. (A roof-top terrasse/balcony is also available to all guests).
While Villa Ernesta offers one-room apartments only, there was ample space for a family with 2 teenagers. The rental price was quite reasonable given the services provided and the villa's location.
Thank you, Ernesta. We hope to return soon! -

Left on 06/30/2011 for a stay in June 2011
I chose Villa Ernesta mainly for its location - right on the main shopping street Carrera - in the very heart of Rovinj - close to all the lovely restaurants (great seafood at Marina down the passage way on the left and a little further left along the waterfront in Fortuna - super attentive service and lots of freshly baked local bread that comes free!!!).
There was 3 of us in the apartment which meant one of us had to sleep in the sitting room area. The place is nice and clean and Ernesta very welcoming. I would definitely consider staying there again. -

Lovely little apartment in the heart of the old town of gorgeous Rovinj. The owner Ernesta is a lovely lady who went out if her way to assist. She solved the issue of our language barrier by having an English speaking property manager available on the end of the phone to assist when necessary. This apartment was perfect for our little family, with our three year old taking the bedroom whilst my husband and I slept on the large, comfortable pullout couch in the main living area. Ernesta was kind enough to recommend lovely local restaurants for us to eat in and to assist us in booking tours. She also spoilt us with her cooking by providing breakfast one morning and cooking us a traditional Craotion seafood dinner that was without a doubt the best meal we had during our two week stay.

Left on 04/27/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We were made to feel very welcome despite the language barrier (Ernesta uses 'phone-a-friend' to communicate in English). Located on the main street, Carera, Villa Ernesta is close to everything! The apartment was clean, spacious and well-appointed, and Ernesta prepared a typical Croatian breakfast for us on Sunday, all from her own produce.
You can't park in the centre of Rovinj, so best to contact the owner before arrival and arrange to be met. -

Walnut Creek, CAGood location but you need to speak Italian
Left on 10/19/2010 for a stay in September 2010
Although all of our email communications were with someone fluent in English, we found on our arrival that Signora Ernesta speaks only Italian. Fortunately, one of the other guests spoke both Italian and English and acted as interpreter. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to understand instructions for locking the outside door, check-out procedures or anything else. It took forever to get settled as Signora Ernesta's friend who also didn't speak any English had to orchestrate getting our bags to the apartment from the parking lot outside town and then direct us to where we could park for a longer term.
The apartment itself was clean and nicely decorated and couldn't have been better located. The gas canister for our stove was empty, though, so we couldn't use it and it wasn't replaced during our visit. The only other complaint was the noise from a group of Venetians upstairs who were singing and yelling at 1:30 in the morning. Otherwise it would have been nice and quiet.
Signora Ernesta was a very gracious hostess and treated us to her special dessert crepes which were the best we've ever tasted. She also shared her homemade wine which she made in huge arrowhead water bottles.
We recommend Stella di Mare for dinner - a beautiful setting and reasonable food. Also, be sure to drive to the hill town of Montevun if you have a car. -

We loved Rovinj and its people. The location in old town is great. The owner is a wonderful cook, and she treated us to delicious pancakes one morning. However, the apartment we had was too small for 3-- especially for more than 1 or 2 days; no washing machine! Despite a kitchen, cooking wasn't an option for us-- no microwave, a broken fridge, a couch bed that took up the entire living room/ kitchen area when extended. When we reported the fridge that fell over on us to the landlady, we were blamed-- and threatened with "polizia". We checked reviews; we weren't the first guests to have this experience. So, stay elsewhere. The appliances are too fragile or non-working, and it isn't worth the stress.

Owner
As stated by American visitors is not true. I would not recommend these customers to any hotel or private accommodation since they caused an endless series of troubles and problems to my business. Not only have they broke the base that held up the refrigerator, but have maintained the apartment throughout the whole stay in such a bad condition (filthy, dirty, untidy) so I had never seen in many years of working in tourism. I didn't manage to ask them to recover the demage since they fled during the night. Such customers are an insult to all Americans, because I get so many visitors from that country and are always among the most 'distinguished and kind and all are very satisfied with hospitaly in Villa Ernesta. It is still hard for me to believe that Americans can be like that, I repeat that for me the Americans are and will always be among the most valued customers. Even if I don't not speak English, and is written in many guides, you will not regret to become my guests and one bad „episode“ won't change my opinion about guets from United States of America.

It just does not get any better, period!!
We spent three glorious nights at Villa Ernesta at the beginning of June 2010.
The location is perfect. it is within walking distance of everything. Yet you can still get a peaceful good night rest.
The accommodations which consisted of bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and a living room are impeccable, spacious, spotless, and very tastefully decorated. all the kitchen utensils shine with cleanliness. I just wish I had the time to use them.
Ernesta is a model host, always ready to share her immense knowledge of the local scene and a glass of her home made wine in the back patio. Her recommendations, comments for local restaurants were astonishingly precise. Her suggestions for sightseeing were just as good.
She arranged for a private driver to take us to Rejeka. the driver was a friend of hers and his fee more than reasonable. He stopped at several locations along the way and extremely knowledgeable of local towns.
We have traveled all over america and Europe. Without a doubt, Villa Ernesta is by far some of the best accommodations for the money.
Oh! yes, there was a negative. We had to cross the street to buy additional toilet paper.
We would return to villa Ernesta in a heartbeat!

Vicenza...abitiamo nel posto + bello di Rovigno!!!
Left on 08/03/2010 for a stay in July 2010
Mary ha chiesto all'amico dott. Mario se conosceva ancora qualcuno a Rovigno... ed ecco il nome di Villa Ernesta.
Subito contattata la signora Ernesta. Gentillissima si e resa disponibile ed abbiamo prenotato un appartamento.
E... l'avventura inizia alle 6 di mattina con carico bagagli e... via!
Dopo alcune peripetie siamo finalmente arrivati e Rovigno. Bella e dir poco - stupenda.

The stay at Villa Ernesta was hassle free and there is practically nothing to complain about. The Villa has its own washing machine and a nice terrace with barbecue. It is located in the very centre of the town Rovinj, and therfore I can reccomend it for vacation. The only drawback is that it is on a pedestrian zone, which means that you have to park your car on the paid parking place outside the centre and make use of the free luggage service to bring the luggage to the Villa.

Left on 06/15/2010 for a stay in June 2010
The apartment was beautiful with gorgeous artwork, a fully functional space, and quiet to boot. The location was perfect: right off the main street and just steps from the marina.
Unfortunately, we had a bad experience there with the owner of the villa: Ms. Ernesta. We were told that towels would be changed every three days. We were there for four and never got a towel change. You get one roll of toilet paper and are required to go and buy more; same goes for trash bags. All trash needs to be out on the street after midnight every night, and you will be charged if you still have trash in your room at check out.
One night I received a mosquito bite that left a drop of blood on one of the sheets. I was told I would have to replace the sheet. Luckily I speak enough Italian to get by, but if you don't speak Italian, be aware that if you don't pay for the extras at check out her she gets more agressive by the minute. Finally, after she accused me of stealing a hairdryer that was never in my room, she tried to take my photo. She said she would give it to the police. Not a hospitable woman. I was actually scared for a time during the check out situation. All was lovely in Rovinj, except the lodging situation.Response from Ernesta Sturman - 06/23/2010
Owner
I was not surprised with malicious comment from Ms Katrina regarding renting an apartment in my Villa.
With these commments she she tends to find excuse for all the negative things what she did in apartment/house, what was forgotten straight away after she left apartment becuase of golden rule of tourism „guest is always right“.
I need to react to protect image and oppinion od hundreds of others who expressed very positive about apartment and owner as well as beatiful town of Rovinj. Finaly, Rick Steves himself stayed with us and gave us high marks and recommandations. I belive this also shows how we treat our guests and what are our standards.
Commenting regulation of town Utility Service and garbage disposal shows that author wants to put herself above it. This says more about peculiarity then objective problem.
Author of this comment, while she was guest in my house, had no complaints. There were a lot of things We could compain (childer left unattendant, things in apartment badly treated – demaged things, self-initiatively taking things from another apartment, noise, throbbing, etc.), but we bear it patiently and it would be a pleasure to welcome author of this comment again, who would maybe, in some other time context, along with self-critism have better opinion about us.
I belive that these ladies have found everything here in beautiful Rovinj, but brought with their culture.

We rented 3 apartments for 4 nights. We had 5 adults, 5 children, and a puppy. The location is fantastic, in the heart of the city, 1 block from the harbor, in a wonderful shopping district, near great food.
Ernesta does not speak English. You must speak on her cell phone to a man who will translate.
The apartments are clean and beautifully decorated. There are stairs, so it is not stroller or elderly friendly. No apartment has every amenity listed.
The €6 parking is outside, up a hill, on the other side of town. We parked at the lot on Giordana Paliage, €16 a day.
Towels (changed every 3 days / not big enough to wrap around your body), no extra toilet paper or garbage bags (buy your own). Dog: €4 per night. Cleaning fee: €20 or clean it yourself.
Why we will never return:
Ernesta Sturman took our passports for 3 days and refused to return them. Her translator said this was security control.
No matter how well you clean, Ernesta wants the €20. If you don't pay, no passport.
Checkout is 10am, but at 9:30am she began inspecting everything, saying “mama mia, disastro, oh madonna”. She came into the apartments while we were still moving out. She was inspecting every bed sheet, exclaiming “disastro, terribile!”. The apartments were clean, we even used Lysol wipes.
We had suitcases in the hall, children crying, Ernesta yelling, and it wasn’t even 10am. At one point she grabbed my friend’s arm and tried to pull her back into the apartment to continue to berate her.
When it became physically abusive we left the building and stood outside. She said she would call the police and we said “please do!”. She never did.
While we waited outside the maid snuck out with our passports, said she was so sorry, and we left.
We went and registered a complaint with the police and they said “Oh yes, we know Ernesta Sturman. She is a problem for the whole town.”.
Fantastic place, terrible owner.Response from Ernesta Sturman - 06/23/2010
I belive that these ladies have found everything here in beautiful Rovinj, but brought with their culture.
p.s. this response is the same as to guest "Vincenza, Italy" since this and that guest are from the same group.

BudapestGreat location, in a beautiful town
Left on 05/31/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We stayed here for 2 nights in May. Aside from the parking difficulties - as the apartment is in the old town where no cars are allowed (hence we had to pay to use a public car park for 3 days), we were very happy with our stay. The apartment is in a perfect location, just off the main square by the fishing marina.
The apartment was comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen. There was no television but I really don't know why anyone would want to watch television when staying Rovinj!
The only slight grumble was that there was some noise from late-night partying from the guests above us, but we would definitely stay here again if returning to Rovinj.
