      Gorgeous sunsets, peaceful, truly awesome!

Left on 05/06/2013 for a stay in April 2013

The accommodations were more than perfect for the 3 of us (2 adults, 1 child) with plenty of space, lots of extras I wasn't expecting - sun hats, loads of towels, sun lotion, bug spray, a drying rack for all our wet snorkel and swim gear, some first aid items (helps with accident prone children), lots of condiments in the kitchen, books to reference fish seen snorkeling, novels to read, etc. The kitchen had more than enough pots, pans, dishes, glasses, you name it. All the appliances were all nice, well maintained, clean and working. We stayed a week, purchased food to have breakfast every day, lunch most days, and dinner for 5 nights. The grill was great, too. We grilled our dinner each night. We ate dinner at the restaurant next door the first night. A bit pricey, but excellent food. We highly recommend Tukka's, the australian/island fusion cuisine restaurant! We ate out on the balcony. If you hit it at Happy Hour, the adult drinks are half price, as well as specials for munchies/appetizers. We visited the Blow Holes, Barefoot Beach, Starfish Point, and went on the Stingray City Sandbar glass bottom boat tour twice with Red Sails next door (so convenient). We enjoyed the first trip so much, we did it again. We recommend the glass bottom boat tour over the catamaran tour as you'll have less tourists to vie for the stingrays attention. It's way cool! The best part of the condo - having the beach/water 20 steps from your back door! Absolutely priceless. We went out on the beach every night to watch the sunset. The snorkeling right out your back door is fantastic, as well. Especially for a beginner like our son. Once we got over coaxing him to try it, he was off like a fish in water. Some nights we spotted stingrays swimming about. We did come across a 4' moray eel, scared the dickens out of our son and hubby, too. And we effortlessly floated while we watched a school of stoplight parrotfish on one snorkeling expedition. So awesome!

      Peaceful beach vacation

Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013

This was our second year staying at this condo and we enjoyed it even more than the first. The location was perfect. As my daughter noted, the condos have their own private beach with about 6-10 other people on--perfect for watching sunsets. If you want a little more action you go a few steps to the west to the Rum Point Club. If you want the beach all to yourself, go around the corner to the east. We went out several days to see the sunrise and were the only people on the beach. This was also our favorite snorkeling spot within walking distance. You walk down the beach to a Public Beach (deserted) and swim out to a beautiful reef. The current takes you back to Rum Point. Best overall snorkeling for us was at Old Mans Bay. Enter the water near the dock and swim to the left. There is absolutely gorgeous coral. It is shallow, so we try to go near high tide.
We also liked the boat trip on Discovery(?). The people who run the submarine ride also have a boat where you sit facing underwater windows. They take the boat out in the harbor (Georgetown) and a very knowledgeable guide points out fish, corals, turtles, ship wrecks. You see more on this than you do on the submarine.
The location of the condo is remote and a good match for people wanting to spend most of their time on the beach and in the water. If you want to go in to town frequently, you'll wind up driving a lot.
Condo is well-equipped. There were tools in the kitchen I couldn't even identify. We appreciated the extras like the fish identification guides, first-aid supplies, flashlights and candles.

      I Shall Return

Left on 02/25/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Everything in #31 was first rate - location, amenities, furnishings, etc. Pictures posted are exactly what we found when we arrived. Neat and clean. Plenty of beach towels. Well equipped kitchen. A nice gas grill. A screened in lanai from which you can amble to the beach in about 10 seconds. If you sprint you can make it in 5 seconds. Satellite TV with HBO, etc. Phone. Ac. Great snorkeling from the beach. I recommend swimming off the point itself, where the water gets deeper and the fish are bigger. There's a pool and a tennis court and an exercise room on site, but I never used any of them - spent all my time at the beach and in the water. There's both a nice restaurant and the "Wreck" beach bar and grill next door, and Red Sail Sport, which runs dive and snorkel trips, Stingray City trips by catamaran or glass bottom boat, and rents jet skis , kayaks, etc. Walk time to these places is 1-2 minutes. A couple of tips for what they're worth. Our car rental was with andy's and it was okay. Car (Suzuki Swift) was in good repair but had 58,000 miles on it and the interior showed the wear and tear. And none of the 4 tires on the car matched each other. 4 tires, 4 different brands. This car was fine for 2 people but was too small for any more than that. Next time we will try McCurleys for car rental. Had dinner at Over the Edge (excellent marinated conch), Tukka's (Wednesday special 3 course at $40 with a glass of wine, beer, or mixed well drink), Kaibo upstairs (fancy and expensive, but excellent), and Kurt's Corner (highly recommended - reasonable, generous portions, very good food, ate there twice). All in all #31 is a great unit and Rum Point is a great place to be - we will be back.

      wonderful family vacation

Left on 02/15/2013 for a stay in January 2013

This is our 7th stay at the Retreat and 2nd in #31.Last year I wrote to Karen, the owner, that we will be back; we are already planning our next year vacation. Our children left all their toys at the condo - they are sure that they are coming back. The place is wonderful; it feels like home only with good weather. The condo has everything you need. Karen is extremely helpful and to deal with her is a pleasure.
      This complex is very well-maintained.
Rum Point has a very special feel - it is a residential neighborhood, quite, well-maintained, very pretty.
There is a restaurant next door and another place to eat right on the beach. the beach is very clean, water is very calm even in a bad weather.
This year my daughter with her family and her in-laws also stayed at the Retreat; her in-laws are planning to come next year with their friends. I should stop advertising the place and writing good reviews while it is still possible to stop the tide.

      Quiet & Restful, lovely condo

Left on 01/20/2013 for a stay in December 2012

For our second visit to Grand Cayman, we decided to get away from busy seven mile beach. We were looking for somewhere quiet and restful and Rum Point fitted the bill well. The condo is clean, well equipped and furnished. The master bedroom is a good size and most importantly for us, the room has curtains which exclude light and also the matress was firm but comfortable. I had read about the bar and restaurant being next door and was a bit worried about noise, but this was not a problem at all during our entire stay as it does not play loud music or keep long hours. In fact, it was rather convenient to pop over the other side of the hedge to have a lovely cocktail and watch the sun go down! I would recommend car hire for this condo and so that you can explore the island. We would stay there again.

      7 Days in Paradise

Left on 09/19/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Rum Point Retreat #31 was paradise. The condo was very spacious, clean and stocked with all the necessities. It's location to the beach was perfect with breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset. We woke every morning, made coffee and stolled down the Rum Point dock to look at the fish and beautiful aqua blue water. It doesn't get much better than that. We had the beach to ourselves which gave us wonderful family time. The weather was perfect and the people of the Cayman's are very helpful and friendly. We would recommend #31 Retreat at Rum Point to anyone thinking of making a visit.

      Something for Everyone

Left on 08/26/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We stayed at Rum Point Retreat #31 for a week in early august with our two teenagers. The Condo and area around it were beautiful and our stay was very relaxing at times and packed with activities for our teenagers at all other times. The unit is beautiful, with amazing views of the beach. It is very clean and the owners have put thought into every detail, from a well-stocked kitchen with all needed appliances, to amble beach towels, to a binder with any information or answers to your questions. Our favorite thing to do was snorkeling. We spent hours right outside the Condo snorkeling; Rum Point reef and stingray city were amazing. Red Sail at Rum Point offered all the activities our teenagers wanted to do and was very informative.

      Heaven!

Left on 07/05/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We loved every second of our vacation in Grand Cayman! This was our first time visiting the island, and it was wonderful! From day one, the owners were helpful& friendly, provided tips and hints and answered any questions we had (and we had a lot! Lol)there is always that moment book online and you think - will this be as good as it seems?- well yes, it was! Rum Point is beautiful, the water really is that blue, and the condo was immaculate! There was everything we needed at the condo, from beach towels to kitchen utensils, to guide books of fish, etc of Grand Cayman! It was wonderful to be able to look out the sliding doors and see the water every minute of the day! With our own private beach, and the beach at Rum Point right next door, we had the best of both worlds! We walked on the dock at Rum Point and "our" beach every morning before the kids woke up, and then spent the days expoloring, on the beach, on/in the water! Perfection! We loved it so much here, we did not want to leave! We had never snorkeled before, and being able to walk right out off the beach and see so much was wonderful and so easy! We saw lobsters, flounders, corals, a little school of squid, stingrays, tons of fish, and even the barracuda who lives under the dock! Right next door, we were able to rent kayaks, and kayak in the clear, shallow water around Rum Point! We were also able to walk right over in a couple of minutes and meet our captain for our trip to Stingray City, which was only about a 10 or 15 minute boat ride away! Captain Jimmy took great care of us!(thanks again to the owners for that tip) We enjoyed the pool, also. There is a grill for the unit, and we cooked out one night, which was fun. There was even a private dinner on the beach at Rum Point one night, complete with a steel drum player and some fireworks, which we were able to enjoy right from our own beach and screened in porch! We loved every minute of our stay at the Retreat!

      Great stay

      Condo Rental
Karen was immensely helpful through out the rental. She provided all the information, restaurants, shopping, excursions, etc..., that we needed for a good time. The condo is well maintained and the proximity to the beach makes it an ideal location. Karen has the condo well stocked of all the amenities that we needed. The condo is very breezy, we opened the porch screen and let the ocean breeze cool the house instead of using the aC. Snorkeling is right off the Retreat's beach. There is a chain of rocks in 4 feet water that provided excellent snorkeling for novice and young children. The Rum Point restaurant and bar is right next door but we found that going to Foster (Stop N Shop equiv.) and making breakfast and lunch is much more economical. You'll have a great time at this rental.

      Rum Point area
We loved this rental unit. Why? Rum Point is not a typical "tourist" area. Unlike 7 miles beach, Rum Point does not have any hotels. Instead Rum Point has many villas and condos. This gives Rum Point a sense of residential suburb. Therefore, if you're looking something more "Miami Beach" I would suggest 7 miles beach. On the other hand if you're looking for a nice, relaxing vacation without the glitter, think of a Vermont retreat, Rum Point is for you. To be fair, we did travel to George Town/7 Miles Beach a lot but we did not want to rent there. It's like in america where you want to go to town for things but live in the suburb.

      Car
You'll need a car. We traveled to the 7 miles area a lot to see various retractions.

      Final note
The best beaches at Rum Point face the north, just look at Google map.

      Great Place to Stay

We stayed at #31 for a week in February. The unit was very well equipped, nicely furnished and comfortable. We appreciated the extras like fish id books, puzzles and games, flashlights for night walks. The view of the night sky alone was worth the trip. The owner was willing to answer all our questions, and provided helpful suggestions on places to eat and activities to try.
Location-It is 50 minutes from the airport and about an hour to Georgetown. We went into town twice, which seemed like once too much.
The Retreat is a small complex of condos. It has a lovely small, quiet beach in front complete with shade trees and chairs on which to sit and watch spectacular sunsets. We liked being on the first floor so we could walk right out onto the beach. Other residents of the complex were friendly. For the most part we liked being next door to the Rum Point beach, so we could walk next door for lunch or a drink, a Red Sail outpost, and a gift shop. The only downside was the evening noise from the restaurant on the other side of the hedge.
We come to Cayman to snorkel, and have stayed at a few other places on the island. This was our best location because there is good snorkeling right out front with sandy entrance and exit spots. You don't have to drive anywhere. If you walk to the right on the beach, down to the public beach, and swim straight out, you will find a beautiful coral reef. The current will take you back to the condos. My daughter and granddaughter found the reef. My husband and I did not go out far enough, but were happy with the things we saw closer in.

We had a great vacation at #31. We loved the location and you can tell the condo is a well cared for and loved place by the owners. Great kitchen accessories and really comfortable furnishings. It is a really big condo too. We only had 4 in our group but could have comfortably fit more. Wonderful swimming and snorkeling and easy access to Rum Point. Loved this place!

      perfect vacation

Left on 01/26/2012 for a stay in January 2012

For the last several years we are spending a week in winter at the Retreat. I guess it means that we really like the place. The location is amazing - shady beach, protected from winds and waves, soft sand, friendly people - perfect for kids and adults. The Retreat is very well maintained; staff on hand is extremely helpful and accommodating. The condo is wonderful, very clean and comfortable with all the amenities and lots of personal touches. It is very spacious; enough space for 6 people - 4 adults and 2 children. Karen, the owner, is the most helpful. Communicating with the her was so easy - all my questions were answered almost instantly. If on vacation you need crowds, and shopping, and night life - this place is not for you. If you are looking for a privacy and comfort - this is a perfect place. All in my family are planning to come back and we will definitely rent this condo again.

      One in a million

Left on 12/05/2011 for a stay in October 2011

I do not always post reviews of my vacations but this one I felt the need to. Reason being so anyone thinking about taking a vacation down to the Cayman Islands and renting this property would not give it a 2nd thought. My wife and I knew we just wanted to get away from life itself and enjoy a very relaxing week at a beautiful spot. After searching places to stay, Rum Point was the stop. We knew that we would not be bothered by the thousands of tourist that come to this island. We were able to find a spot that was as remote as you can possibly be. After arriving it was so pleasant to know that the location of our condo was as prime as can be. Set in the corner with a private garden and to wake up a few ft. away from the ocean was truly amazing and a "must have" for us. The condo was very clean, and provided more than perfect accommodations. Also close by are some restaurants and a yacht club bar that is great to walk to. My wife and I truly got to live the Island lifestyle as if we lived there all year. There is no question that we will be re-visiting #31 again and looking forward to living life in paradise for at least 1 week out of 52 every year of our lives!
