Town: One of the gems of the East Coast is the lovely Runswick Bay. With its narrow cobbled streets and quaint cottages, this picturesque old fishing village nestles in a small bay just nine miles from Whitby. Backed by spectacular cliffs and moorland scenery, this is not a typical tourist spot â cars have restricted access to the village which makes it an ideal place to relax and unwind without the sights and sounds of the modern world. Reached via cobbled, twisting alleyways, visitors can enjoy the lovely sandy beach - well known for fossil hunting - and various cliff-top walks including the Cleveland Way. Local amenities within Runswick Bay are plentiful and include three local inns, all serving food, and one tea-room. A village shop is provided by nearby Hinderwell.

The apartment was home from home furnished to a high standard and spotlessly clean owners were there to great us and explain everything about the apartment and the area, there was also a file full of information on appliances where to eat and places to visit, also a lovely well kept enclosed garden to sit in and relax, off street parking is a bonus the walk down to the bay is rather steep but you can take the car as there is a car park at the bottom of the bank, worth going for the view and a walk along the beach. Runswick Bay is well situated for trips out Goathland is a must. The owners were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Could not fault the holiday.

Excellent, well equipped with a lovely outdoor space in which my 3 yr old grandaughter could play safely.
The attitude of the owner was above and beyond what was necessary . Extremely thoughtful that a bottle of wine greeted us on the table with milk and biscuits in the
kitchen. Superb location with a wonderful bay.
(suggest you walk down and send someone back for the car
when you want to return)
A very relaxing holiday spot.

The place made coping with two grandchildren for a very wet week as easy as it could possibly have been.
This exceeded our expectations

We spent a week here with four adults and two children. We were surprised by the comfort, quality and space. The kitchen was well equipped, the lounge/dining room was comfortable and big enough. The beds were comfortable and there was enough room to hang clothes. We had space for two cars and also had use of a section of the garden with enough space for the children to play and for use to eat out. The village is located just five minutes drive from the nearest shops and is ideally situated to travel to Whitby and Scarborough and up to Saltburn by the Sea. You can walk doen to the beach - it is very steep, and also walk part of the Cleveland Way frm here. The landlord was very helpful and gave us a warm welcome.

We wanted to go to then Whitby Goth Festival, but left it too late to book anywhere in Whitby itself. the apartment at Runswick was only a 10 minute drive from Whitby (and is also served by an excellent bus) and suited us fine. the apartment was warm, clean and comfortable and we greatly enjoyed our stay. The only problem we had was no moblie phone reception & no public phonebox in the village, which made meeting up with those travelling on the bus from Middlesborough somewhat difficult, as they missed the bus they said they'd be on, & had no way of letting us know. However, there were plenty of buses, & they arrived eventually. A lovely stay.
