San FranciscoWeekend Getaway!
Left on 05/02/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Great for group of adults just wanting a peaceful weekend getaway. The area is very quiet at night. Hot tub is perfect to dip in every night. Interiors & appliances updated & loved that they had wifi cause that 's pretty much the only connection we had to the outer world cause there was absolutely no cell signal anywhere in that area(both at&T; & Verizon)! Everything was clean & tidy when we got there. Easy access & animal friendly. Also very convenient cause it's so close to their downtown where the restaurants & Safeway was. Also close to all other points of interest in Guerneville, which includes wineries, Natl Park & the beach. Definitely worth the money & research!

Left on 03/14/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Every year a group of my friends and myself rent out a house during the annual barrel tasting in March and this was our first time at Pebble and Fern. All rooms were spacious and comfortable as was the couch and outdoor space. Unfortunately only Verizon customers had reception in the house. Had enough amenities however we couldn't find the downstairs dvd remote so we had to use the one from the loft. From previous reviews we read, we thought the flat screen tv from the loft was moved downstairs but it wasn't. Would reccommend that it be moved to allow a bigger group to enjoy the tv. Also, suggestion to place a holder for the upstairs shower so one can shower freely without holding onto the shower hose. I'm also pretty sure that the bedrooms have full beds not queens. Overall, enjoyed our time, very quiet and tranquil. Best part was the jacuzzi and game area least favorite part was the detergent that took made one of my shirts (which had been washed many times before) dye spread to the rest of my clothes..

The remote has been found. There are two TV's, one in the loft and one in the living room, so there should be plenty of space for everyone to watch. We've never heard about a problem with the detergent, but we'll keep an eye on it. The shower handle is fixed. The beds are queens. -Rachel

santa cruzA very nice house
Left on 08/30/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We stayed at Pebble and Fern last week with our children and grandchildren. We all enjoyed staying there. The house is very spacious and clean with simple decoration. The beds and pillows were comfortable. It did smell a little of mildew, but that's part of being located in the forest and not having full time tenants. Once we had the windows all open, it got better. It's in very good shape and it was clean. If the owner is interested in suggestions I have two. It would have been nice to find a large, non-stick frying pan in the kitchen. The other is the shower upstairs. It would probably be inexpensive to replace the shower with one that has a clip for the shower head so a person could shower standing up. It was a bit far from the river and center of town, but only a few minutes drive and it didn't bother us. It's tucked back in the forest, but it didn't seem too dark in the summer. I don't know how it would be in winter, but I could imagine doing a holiday dinner there with a fire going and the huge table in the dining room.

The house is even better than the pictures show. It was spacious, comfortable and though in close proximity to the neighbors, it was totally private. Great hot tub! We did not use the kitchen much, but I would suggest that they update their pots and pans and tablecloth and napkins. They look old and overused.
We enjoyed out stay and would recommend it!

Great house
Perfect for two couples
Hot tub on the deck was fantastic with 100 foot redwoods over head.
The indoor lighting could be better and the owner should do some thing with the shower in the master bed room,it is a hand held with no where to hang it so it does no allow you the use of both hands. That being said I would rate it 9.5 on a scale of 1 to 10 and recommend it anyoneResponse from Russian River Getaways - 08/13/2012

San Jose, CAHad a nice stay except the CO false alarm
Left on 05/24/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We had a very nice stay. 2 familes plus 1 kid and 1 German Shepherd dog... all had a very good time. The house is pretty much equipped with most things you need. The first evening the CO alarm in the BR upstair went on and we were scared. Called and left VM to management and although they didn't return call until we called again, when they did they mentioned that it is a false alarm that has been a known issue and the fire dept has checked it out recently. We took their words and the rest of the stay was peaceful and we loved the house.
However, I'm not sure if that means one should keep ignoring the alarm as then it does not make sense to have an alarm. We decided that if that happens another time, we are calling it a day!
The owners surely have a good taste of decor.
We would definitely recommend this house.Response from Russian River Getaways - 07/16/2012
Manager
I'm very sorry about that alarm. CO alarms need to be placed correctly or they go off on false alarms, especially if there are sources of gas flame like a furnace or gas stove. This one has now been moved to a better location, so it's not giving off false messages any longer. -Rachel, general manager

SFBeautiful place, but management could use some improvement
Left on 12/20/2011 for a stay in December 2011
We ran into a few issues in the 2 days we were there and had to deal with the emergency line multiple times.
We arrived and found that the upstairs shower was barely running at a trickle with most of the water still coming out of the faucet instead of the showerhead. This was repaired but not until after 5pm the next day.
Also, told them the night we arrived that the downstairs DVD was defective. She said she would bring in one to change but did not for the rest of the weekend despite a reminder the next day. The main issue being that we had a young child that wanted to watch his DVD. So instead of all being together in the living room and enjoying the fireplace, we divided our family so some of us were upstairs with him. Not a huge deal, but between the two issues above, lack of appropriate response and the combined added costs of the rental, pretty lame that they would not even allow an hour late check out without asking for 20% of the night's stay much less reduce the price given that we paid for 2 bathrooms and all 5 of us ended up using 1 bathroom for over half of the time. Also called and left a message with their booking office and never even received a call back.
The linens and blankets on the bed were not very clean. However, the rest of the house was. It is a beautiful house, but I expect the advertised amenities to be as they say or some type of concession or reimbursement. The bathroom part was the most upsetting of all. Calling the emergency line everyday was not how anyone wants to start a weekend retreat.
I would recommend this place and return but would make sure all the aboves were confirmed to be in working order prior. No rental is perfect and this one can be much better with some minor adjustments.Response from Russian River Getaways - 05/23/2012
Manager
We're sorry for the problems at the house, but we're also at a loss at the complaints about response time and follow through. All of the above comes down to two issues, a broken shower diverter and one of two DVD players' malfunctioning. Our emergency tech thought that she did everything you wanted as quickly as possible, so she was very surprised at your claims. As policy, when we receive a message, we call back ASAP and follow through, so I suspect there were crossed communication wires here. Also, things break sometimes, and while it is unfortunate that there was more than one issue during your visit, this is beyond our control. It also sometimes takes time to fix an item. The linens on the beds were clean but they are white and hard to make look perfectly clean without bleach, which, as a green company, we do not use. The cleaner took special care to remove the staining. -General Manager

Oakland, CAComfortable house, off the beaten path, not a fan of the beds
Left on 11/10/2011 for a stay in November 2011
Overall we were pleased with the house. It's a bit farther off of the main road than we would have liked, as it was quite difficult to find in the dark. House was well equipped and was plenty spacious. The only problem with the house was the beds. The listing says each bedroom has a queen size bed, this was not the case as all three beds were full/double size. Also, the upstairs bed had quite the body grooves worn in to the point it was not comfortable for my wife. Hot tub was fine, but due to the rain we did not use any other outside spaces. There was a problem with the dryer too, there was a problem with the door that would cause it to shut off every few minutes.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 12/22/2011
Manager
We're glad you enjoyed this home. We double checked, and the beds are all queens, not double/full. We've not had complaints before about grooves on that one bed, and when we checked it out, we could not duplicate the problem. The dryer works very well, but the door needs to be closed firmly to keep it running. There was a sign saying so, but apparently, that had fallen off. We're placed a new sign to remind people. -rkl

We enjoyed our stay at Pebble and Fern. The house was spacious enough for our family of six and our little yorkie. The kitchen was set up nicely and we enjoyed cooking and bbq on the deck. The spa was so relaxing and it was clean. We had fun playing the games and cards and the Ipod player was great because we used that to play music. This home was a pleasure to be in and to invite family for a meal or an overnight. All ages from teens to 90 were comfortable and said, "wow!" It is nicely decorated and well-appointed, a nice place to entertain. A drawback for the region is the inaccessibility of the Russian River; though there are a couple of public beaches, they are too far apart to float from one to the next, and the River moves so slowly sometimes you'll float upstream! Waterfront property seems to be the way to most easily use the River. This home is far from the River, but if you want a tranquil wood setting, this is beautiful.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 01/26/2012

We're glad you had a great time at Pebble & Fern. Just to be clear, overnight guests cannot exceed the number the house sleeps, and day guests are limited (and we need to know about them!) by county ordinance. I'm confused about the comments about the river because there are many many small beaches between the large ones where folks can stop. The large public beaches of Guerneville and Monte Rio are further apart certainly. Pebble & Fern is about ten minutes max from Johnson's Beach in Guerneville. -rkl

Mill ValleyPebble & Fern - Wonderful!!!
Left on 07/13/2011 for a stay in July 2011
I took my entire office staff for a week of team building; the house and property were wonderful, there are a few things I hope the owners address before I return next year:
* move the TV from the loft to the livingroon; too hot and not family friendly; we wanted to watch movies and couldn't as could not get everyone up in the loft and it was not comfortable.
*clean out the "water feature" that did not work at it was a good breeding ground for mosquitos;
*put fans in each bedroom, as durning our stay is was very very hot and one portable fan was not sufficient.
*it would have been nice to have the hammocks already put up, took about an hour to figure it out, but then great!!!
In closing, my staff and myself had a wonderful time, ate all meals on the deck and truly enjoyed the grounds, hot tub and the home is beautiful! The kitchen and great room were wonderful and having a washer and dryer was the icig on the cake.
I am booking this property again for next 4th of July for a week.
Thank you to the owners for sharing this slice of heaven.

So glad these folks enjoyed this house so much. We've taken care of the fountain and made it inhospitable to mosquitoes. The hammock has been put away because of the sporadic rain we've had this summer; don't want to leave it out to get moldy. We're checking into the fans; they should be there. If these guests had called the office, we would have either helped them find the fans or brought some out to them. The house was missing some fans. There are now plenty of fans and, the TV has been moved to the living room! -rkl

Livermore, CAA great place to relax and enjoy the beauties of nature!
Left on 04/27/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Very nice house which is located just a few mins from downtown Guerneville, but feels like you are in the middle of a Redwood Forest. The creek was the highlight of our trip as we took our dogs who love to swim! We walked the creek daily and found some cool swim holes which the dogs thoroughly enjoyed! The only thing I didn't like is being so close to the neighbors... The yard was supposed to be completely fenced in, but the dogs found an opening and went into the neighbor's yard. They completely overreacted and yelled at me - it put a slight damper on the moment. I found the gap in the fence and immediately fixed it to avoid future encounters with that unfriendly, negative couple.
I have stayed at several different properties in the area and really enjoyed this one - I highly recommend it especially if you are looking for two bathrooms. One recommendation for change/improvement - move the TV out of the loft as it wasn't a comfortable "TV Watching" atmosphere and felt it would have been better if it were located downstairs to the left of the fireplace where everyone can enjoy the big, comfy couch.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 07/11/2011

Wonderful that these guests enjoyed this home so much, yet sad that the neighbor was unfriendly. In any case, we've fixed the gaps in the fence so the yard will be more secure, and the neighbors won't be disturbed again. -rkl

San Francisco, CAFun and relaxing
Left on 02/20/2011 for a stay in February 2011
A group of friends and I stayed at Pebble and Fern for 3 nights in February for a girls weekend. The house is pretty far of the main road, which can be good or bad depending on what you're looking for. The house was nicely decorated, modern and comfortable. The keyless check-in is very easy. The check-out was easy as well (but the lock really does change exactly at 11, so don't forget anything inside!). We enjoyed our weekend cooking, drinking wine and hanging out in the hot tub!
The first day we were there the hot tub was not heating up higher than 93 degrees. We called the service number and someone was out within 30 mins or less to fix it for us. Great customer service.
The only 2 downfalls we ran into were the following: 1) the pots and pans were not the greatest if you're doing a lot of cooking. We managed, but a nice non-stick pan would have been nice. All the other kitchen equipment was great and there was plenty of it. Everything we needed. 2) The piping system is flawed in the sense that the downstairs bedroom off to the right sounded like it was underwater whenever anyone in the upstairs bedroom would shower or flush the toilet. My friends said that it did wake them up if we flushed in the middle of the night. Not sure if there is too much that can be done about it though.
Having said the 2 downfalls, overall our experience was excellent and I would consider booking Pebble and Fern again for another trip! -

Oakland, CAVery Nice, Modern Guerneville House!
Left on 06/10/2010 for a stay in May 2010
Pebble & Fern was a great rental. We had no service needs during our stay, as everything functioned well and as expected. The keyless entry is great (but checking in at the office is also a pleasant experience). The beds and all interior furnishings are very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, and the hammocks under the towering redwoods, fountain/pond, and seasonal creekside location are wonderful.
The one minor disappointment of our stay was the proximity of the neighboring houses. Even after reading the previous reviews, I was surprised to find that the master bathroom window looks directly onto the neighboring house's front door, and that there is no real landscaping or space buffer between Pebble & Fern and its neighbors. As an urban dweller, I had thought that the large lot would provide more privacy than it did, but the lot seems much deeper than it is wide, so the neighboring houses are quite close. The lot also feels smaller because it includes two separate small buildings in addition to the house.
One other note: we traveled with two dogs, and our 14-lb dog quickly located a "weakness" in the fence on the back side of the building at the rear of the fenced area big enough to squeeze through and explore the neighboring properties. It might be worth some more permanent intervention to ensure a secure fenced area.
Despite these minor issues, our stay was wonderful, and we would certainly recommend this property to anyone whose top priority is not seclusion/privacy. Pebble & Fern is unusually modern, clean, and comfortable, and is pleasantly close to downtown Guerneville without feeling at all in the "thick of things." There's also a nice separation of space between the master suite and the two bedrooms and bath downstairs.
If seclusion is your priority, rest assured that there are plenty of great options in the area, especially through Russian River Getaways. The office is very helpful for these types of questions.Response from Russian River Getaways - 07/11/2011

Pebble and Fern is in a community of rather close homes nestled in a redwood grove. Despite the close proximity of the neighbors, it offers plenty of privacy and a rural feel. It's the perfect retreat for those who want to take advantage of the wine country or outdoor activities during the day and settle in during the evening. The kitchen is very well stocked, and the home is beautifully appointed. It's a bit off the beaten path, so for those looking to be in the middle of things, it might not be appropriate. The reservation process was easy (quick response and booking/confirmation done via electronic signature) and when we checked in, we used a key code - it couldn't be more simple. Also, the instructions at the house were very clear (how to operate heat, hot tub, etc. and how to close it up).

San Francisco, CAAmazing house. Odd cleaning rule.
Left on 10/06/2009 for a stay in September 2009
We rented this house for a birthday weekend getaway for six people and
two dogs. Both two-legged and four-legged guests loved it! We BBQed
every evening and slept like logs on the comfy beds. We liked it so much, in
fact, that even before we left, we checked to see if we could rent it over New
Year's (sadly, it was booked).
The house is tastefully decorated with modern furnishings, the location is
quiet but not too far off the beaten path, and the kitchen is stocked with
every utensil, plate, bowl, or glass even the most seasoned cook might
need.
Which brings me to the only thing that cost this amazing house a star: The
strange requirement that you must put all the dishes away before you check
out at 11 a.m. I understand that the cleaning folks shouldn't be stuck with a
six-person after-dinner cleanup, but I think it would be sufficient to leave
the final load of dishes in the dishwasher before leaving. I say "final load"
because the dishwasher is a very tiny one indeed. I think we did about 10
dishwasher loads over two full days.
Other than that, I would only hesitate to recommend Pebble and Fern
because I don't want it to get too popular!
Response from Russian River Getaways - 07/11/2011
Manager
We're so happy these guests loved this beautiful home. Asking guests to do their own dishes is actually standard in the vacation rental industry. However, our rules have changed a bit. Currently, if you're using the dishwasher, you don't have to put the dishes away, just start the dishwasher before you leave. We do ask for all the handwashables to be dried and put away. Our housekeepers have a set amount of time to clean, so this makes their schedule do-able. -rkl

We stayed at pebble and Fern for a 2 nights in July to celebrate my husband's birthday. The house is about 1 mile from River Road with small winding road that leads you to Pebble & Fern.
The furnishings are modern and quite hip! With a cool fireplace which we didn't use and a nice deck with a rock fountain that added to the atmosphere.
The bedrooms were nicely furnished- no kitchy victorian stuff- very modern and very nice color scheme. The bathrooms were also nicely done.
My girls loved the fussball and ping pong table and hammocks in the back!
The small but very adequately designed kitchen was fun to cook in.
Pebble and Fern truly felt like you were far away and no noisy drunken neighbors to mar the serenity of the redwoods.
The issues:
Hot tub never truly got hotter than 94 degrees- pity because after a day kayaking on the river- it would have been very soothing to our aching mucsles
Missing a few amenities like shampoo, paper towels dishwashing machine soap and unfortunately missing a wine bottle opener. Also perhaps a step stool to reach high cabinets.
And on our last morning- the downstairs bathroom flooded as the pipes backed up. Very nasty stuff but the property management responded withing 30 minutes with a plumber to the rescue. That's a major plus.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 07/30/2009
Manager
We really appreciate these comments. Just to clarify, there was no problem with the hot tub except that the guests pushed a lot of buttons and got the program out of whack. A phone call to the office or emergency number would have resulted in an immediate fix.
We do not provide shampoo for our guests and the wine bottle opener is the fancy sort, sitting on a shelf in the kitchen. The paper towels are by the washer and dryer. But indeed the dishwasher soap dispenser was empty; again, a call and we could have dealt with this in a few minutes. Always, always, guests need to call us with a problem! We aim to serve......
