ModestoA Restful Retreat
Left on 05/17/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Looking for a holiday away to decompress? This cottage is just perfect for that very experience I found. I needed to get away for a few days, just me and my dog and this comfortable cottage was the perfect spot. The home is overlooking the Russian River, with two decks where you can sit back and enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the scenery, drinking in the peace and calm surrounding you. The afternoon did heat up a bit inside but opening up the French doors leading to the first deck, the kitchen window, bedroom window and upper half of the front door brought in a cross draft that quickly cooled the cottage down with the assistance of the fans. I found pest spray almost eliminated any flying creatures that wanted to enjoy the inside tranquility of the home with you at night. As I brought my 4 legged family member with me, this home was very friendly and was the very getaway we both needed.

It's always nice to be able to take your pet on vacation with you and not worry about anything but having a nice and relaxing time. We pride ourselves in being pet friendly and, with most of us here having dogs, we understand the importance of having your favorite friend with you. We hope to see you again soon.

Illpros and cons
Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in May 2013
Pros: Cabin is on river, near to town, had kayaks.
Cons: Inside is dark, funky. Smelled musty. Second bedroom you must go outside to get to bathroom in middle of night.Response from Russian River Getaways - 05/22/2013

Cabernet Cottage is a cabin in the woods after all. It's a great little hideaway and, like you said, on the river and close to town. The woodwork inside the cottage is stunning but you have to like that sort of rustic feel and look. We hope you enjoyed your overall stay and will come back again!

We stayed for a week to participate in the Vineman Triathlon and had a great stay. The cottage is a little worn looking on the outside but once in everything was very nice. Beds very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. Nice view of the river with easy access. Also close to town. The only thing that was a bit of a challenge was the shower water was difficult to get the right temperature due to the hot and cold handles hard to turn. There is a lot of stairs up to the house and also to the jacuzzi. Nice area for biking and running and you can swim in the river but it is shallow. Guerneville is kinda funky but we enjoyed our stay.

Pleasant Hill, CA (Bay Area)Nice River View Cabin
Left on 07/29/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Loved the location, but was not easy getting getting to beach. Very precarious for older adults &children.; Weather good & very nice cabin, outdoor furniture needs repair & not very comfortable. Would stay again if they would make the stairs/beach access better for all family members.

Perhaps very small children would have a problem (although mine would have been fine), but it's a typical local path down and across river frontage. Just a note on the beach: It's privately owned except at near waterline, so please stay down off the sand, near the water's edge. We'll check out the furniture and repair whatever needs repair. -Rachel, general manager

Greenbrae, CAIdeal getaway!!!

This is a wonderful cozy cottage with an amazing view of the river. My husband and I spent a peaceful and restful vacation at this cottage. The bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable and clean. The size of this place is perfect for a couple. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped. The cottage is right on the water, few steps to the beach. The first night the TV wasn't working and the staff was quick to respond coming to the cottage in the evening to fix the problem. We really enjoyed having our meals on the deck with the tranquility of the river.

Thanks for the photos! Cabernet is a great little cottage, and I'm so glad you enjoyed its many charms. Just a note on the beach for future visits: Guests should stay down by the water line, as the sand up to the houses is private property, and be respectful of the local denizens' peace and quiet. -Rachel, Russian River Getaways

South PasadenaFantastic!

We loved our stay and staying in Cabernet Cottage... Hot tub watching river flow, barbecueing steaks on the grill, kayaking on the river (and falling in and freezing) then returning to build a nice warm fire... Great location close to town but removed and quiet. We couldn't figure out how to work the TV but that was great because we played Uno and Monopoly and had a good ole family time...

Excellent that you enjoyed this home so much. Next time give us a call about the TV if you can't figure it out from the house instructions (in the binder in each house). Also, just so you know, the river is not considered safe until May. -General Manager

Quaint cabin. Comfortable. Really enjoyed having our dogs with us.

We're so glad you liked Cabernet. For future reference, there's no "private beach" at this home. There's a neighborhood access path next to the house, which leads to a beach fronted by private homes. Guests may use this beach up to the "high water mark," in this case, where the sand starts (the sand is private property); residents just ask that our guests clean up after themselves and keep the beach peaceful place. -General Manager

Saratoga, CAGreat View of the River
Left on 06/10/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Though the weather did not totally cooperate for our stay, we all felt that this cottage had a quirky charm in addition to its beautiful view of the river.
The fact that the secondary bedroom was fairly small and without a closet in addition to only having exterior entrances into the main living space (it rained a bit and this made midnight runs to the potty sort of dampening) was odd but the room was warm and cozy at night, which is all that really matters.
The kitchen was quite well stocked and clean & the hot tub was divinely private and we used it several times.
There was an issue with the water heater pilot light that was easily remedied; however, the shower water temp was difficult to regulate so we kept them short - perhaps the water heater itself being an on-demand type had difficulty servicing the needs of four people.
All in all, this is the fourth cabin we have rented thru Russian River Getaways and we liked it well enough to come back again.
Thanks for providing such wonderful places to stay in one of our most favorite regions!Response from Russian River Getaways - 03/12/2012

You are so welcome! We're so glad you enjoyed this home, and it does have a great view. The satellite bedroom has hooks and under-bed drawers for clothing. The issue with the hot water was resolved back in June. -General Manager
