North Hollywood, CaGreat cabin for cozy getaway
Left on 11/26/2012 for a stay in November 2012
My boyfriend and I stayed at the cabin for four nights in November.
We booked well in advance and had no issues with Russian River Getaways.
It was a great experience.
The main cabin itself is very cozy and cute. It is located a short drive out of town (Guerneville). The road up to the cabin is steep and curvy. You should arrive before dark. I repeat arrive before dark. They do tell you ahead of time though.
Keyless entry was a breeze. I suggest using your own code once you've unlocked the front door (instructions are included in your rental paperwork).
The loft bedroom is romantic and cozy. The bed is very comfortable, and I'm picky about beds.
The kitchen seemed smaller in photos than in person. It was well stocked with pots and pans, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher and the stove is small but adequate for cooking a home cooked meal.
The solarium is beautiful and was a great place to eat breakfast with the views of all the trees outside. We did not use the BBQ, but the deck off the solarium (where the BBQ is) was a great place for a morning cup of coffee.
The stairs down the satellite bedroom are a little steep (as advertised) but are well lit.
The satellite bedroom was very cute. We didn't sleep in the bedroom, but used it as a changing room before we went down to the hot tub.
The hot tub is amazing! The views are great and the tub itself was clean and the temperature was perfect.
My favorite things:
1) The main house has great sky lights and big windows. The morning light was fantastic.
2) The shower was an unexpected treat. There is a huge window in the shower with bamboo on the other side. Nice surprise!
3) Hot tub of course.
4) The area is great. Cazadero has a great little bakery. Jenner is worth the drive. The sunset was amazing. Drive from Jenner up the coast to Salt Point State Park. Great photo ops. Cows roam free roadside!!
Oh, there are no lights in or around the hot tub. They are there, but did work. Not a big deal, just a head's up.

PhoenixLovely place, decor/comforts could improve
Left on 09/08/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This is a very nice little cabin and is well kept and lovely. It has all the potential for a cozy getaway but there were a few comforts that lacked and thus coziness lacked a bit-by that I just mean natural fiber blankets and updated towels and decor. The decor is very groovy if you like that sort of thing, but it wasn't very appealing to us. All the other amenities are good and everything you might need is there. The hot tub has a great star view and you will likely see deer in the yard.

Next time you rent from us, please look at the house webpage photos closely so that there are no surprises. This home has a deliberate mid-century decor, which is obvious in the photos. -Rachel, General Manager

Granada Hills, CaliforniaOur stay at Velouria - 7/24/2012 through 7/31/12
Left on 08/11/2012 for a stay in July 2012
There were many things that my partner and I enjoyed about Velouria. Among them were all the windows and views of the forest, the solarium dining area, and the outside dining area. It was also nice to have the convenience of a washer and dryer, as well as a dishwasher.
The neighborhood was very quiet, and it was easy to sleep at night.
There are only a couple of negatives: 1) There is no handrail along the steps down to the other levels, and 2) We could not get the DVD player to work.Response from Russian River Getaways - 08/28/2012
Manager
We'll check out the DVD player. There are instructions in the house binder. If that doesn't work, you can always call us, so we can help get it going. The photos of the yard show where there are handrails and where there are not, so anyone renting this house should be sure to look closely. -Rachel, General Manager

The house is lovely, but the best part is the different levels of decks and places to relax. There were four of us and at some point, we were all outside, alone and in complete peace.

Orange County, CAOur little mod cabin stay
Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My BF and I stayed ay Velouria for five days over the 4th of July. Overall, we found this cabin to be a comfortable and very enjoyable place to stay. We were big fans of the decor of the house, sort of a mid to late mid century cabin with tons of windows, and a view into the redwoods. It was exactly what we'd hoped for. There are multiple terraces behind the cabin, going down to a guest house (where the second bedroom is), a deck with lounge chairs, and on the last level, a hot tub. Be careful on your drive in - try to arrive before dark. The little road you drive in on is one lane, and steep - especially if you aren't used to steep mountainous roads. After one or two trips, you'll definitely find it's no problem, though.

Columbus, OhioFun, quirky, relaxing property!
Left on 07/05/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Velouria was enjoyed by all as a fun get-away from the city. Furnishings were nice if quirky at times. If you're looking for 5 star accommodations, look elsewhere. If you want a nice place to stay, with amenities you need for an extended trip, it's a great choice. 2nd bedroom is rather small, but cozy. Only complaints would be that the couch could use a good cleaning or replacement, same with the the area rug under the couch, the water heater is small (only 2 short showers worth of hot water), and the door to laundry area needs some repair/shoring up. Overall a great experience and a fun place to get away from it all.

Velouria was amazing. Far exceeded my expectations. The home was full of so many wonderful oddities and decorations. Very comfortable. The only issue we had was that it was not walking distance to the river (the explanation says half a mile but its a bit further than that). There was also no ipod dock as advertised so I recommend if you go you bring your own!

I'm glad you enjoyed the little things that make Velouria special. I couldn't find anywhere on our website where it says the house is a half mile from the River, so I'd like to know where you saw that so I can correct it. It's about 2.5 miles to Johnson's Beach. We'll check into the iPod dock because it should have been there. -Rachel, Russian River Getaways

We found the location very remote; harder to get to after dark. We loved the dining room and living room and the kitchen was well furnished. There was alot of steps but they were lit well after dark. We had to call the pool experts twice as the temp was not working for two days so we were unable to use the hot tub.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 05/31/2012
Manager
We're sorry about the hot tub. It's unfortunate, but sometimes things go wrong, and the best we can do is make our best effort to get them fixed for you. There are a lot of steps, and as it says all over the house webpage on our site and the booking page, this house is not good for the very young or the very old. We do try to be accurate in our descriptions. -general manager

Fairfield, CAMagical treehouse
Left on 04/24/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We loved our weekend at Velouria! Easy to find and very easy to check in. Comfy bed, nice furnishing throughout the house, and a spacious bathroom. Lots of windows and sunlight. The solarium dining room is awesome. Wonderful location; the surrounding nature and landscaping and multiple outdoor decks were gorgeous. At times it felt like being in a treehouse! We enjoyed the quirky art, books, and DVD collection, and the modern amenities such as Hdtv and stereo. Our only minor negative things to mention were the close proximity to the neighbors (not everything is fenced off; there are trees in between but we could see into areas of the backyards on both sides), and the electric stove is very tiny. Also, with no aC it got quite warm on some days, even with the fan on and blinds closed. Still, we had an awesome time and would definitely like to return to this magical place again.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 04/29/2012
Manager
Thanks for your kind words about this very special house. The stove is apartment size, and I've noted it now on the website. The dishwasher and refrigerator are full size. While parts of the yard are visible to the neighbors, the hot tub is private. We don't have many days that are warm enough for air conditioning, so most homes in this area don't have it. We can offer fans if things get too close. -General Manager

I really loved this place. Great architecture and landscape. My only complaints were that i am allergic to cats and got some allergies (there was some cat hair). And the heater in the guest house is very loud. Otherwise a wonderful place. I loved the sun room/dining room.

We're so glad you liked Velouria, and we apologize for the cat hair. The owner does bring his mostly outdoor cat occasionally, but you should not have found cat hair. We'll check out the heater to make sure it's working properly. -rkl

We really enjoyed our week-long stay at Velouria. It is comfortable, stylish and has all the amenities of urban living(wifi, art books, large screen tv, etc) while surrounded by beautiful, tranquil redwoods. A short distance to the downtown area and armstrong Redwoods forest.
