This was our second stay at absolute Zen. The great thing about this visit is the place was exactly the same as our first time there. It was peaceful and relaxing with everything you need to just pause and be. The hot tub and sauna were so inviting. The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable for a restful sleep. I love the redwoods that surround the house and the sounds of the birds in the morning. The location is perfect for exploring local wineries, for walks on the coastal beaches and for some retail therapy if needed. We loved everything about our stay at absolute Zen and cannot wait to return for a third time. Thank you for making the home such an inviting and relaxing place for visitors.

We enjoyed our 4nights at absolute Zen. We wondered about the uphill drive as we arrived at the house, but it was well worth it to be amongst the redwoods for a few days. The house was clean and had everything a couple needed for a long weekend getaway from Chicago.
Very peaceful...Thank you for sharing your home. -

We had a great time at absolute Zen over Thanksgiving weekend. The kitchen was well-equipped, the bed was cozy, and the hot tub was very relaxing. As others have said, it is close to neighbors, but well situated with fences so that you feel like you have privacy.
The only thing that was not working was one of the hot tub jets. Everything else was great!Response from Russian River Getaways - 03/03/2013

This place is incredible! My wife, my dog and I went up there for my 35th birthday. The house is laid out really well and the decorations enhance the romantic setting. Nestled in a redwood grove, you feel as if you are perched up in a tree-house. The hot tub was top-notch, the outdoor shower was nothing short of divine, and the deck with the two redwood trees going through it was spectacular. I highly recommend this place for any couple looking to get away and have a relaxing, romantic weekend. Also the grounds are very private and completely fenced in so it is perfect for a well-behaved dog. My only concern was that the house didn't have riverfront access, but it is so close to river beaches that it doesn't matter. Plus, I think being "up the hill" allows you to have a bit more peace and quiet. We hope to go back once a year!

We had a wonderful time at absolute Zen! It was peaceful and tranquil, nestled up in the redwoods. The home is a perfect size for two, with all the necessary amenities and a lovely kitchen. I think it would be a stretch for four, unless they others were small children. The upstairs living space, with the reading nook was so lovely. When you wake up in the morning you feel like you are floating among the trees. The house has everything you would need, including a great therapeutic hot tub and sauna. Check in was a breeze and the town is quite lovely. The Garden Grill has amazing burgers, ribs and bloody marys. Big Bottom Market has the best biscuits. Kings Sports is a great place to get a canoe/kayak to float down the Russian River. They even let us bring our dog! Safeway is about a mile away, which is convenient. We had only one issue. The saleslady claimed that it was walkable into town. This is a stretch. First, the house is on a huge and steep hill. My husband and I are both avid runners and this was a tough hill to climb, esp. after a meal. Second, other than Garden Grill, you have to walk along a very fast paced highway, with lots of blind curves to get to town. It is not that safe or really walkable. Overall, this was not such a huge issue to detract from our enjoyment, but I just wish RRG had been a little more upfront. Overall though, it was a lovely home and we enjoyed our time. Thanks!

Such a tranquil place, lovely home with all the ammenties one needs and the setting so relaxing. Only problem was the many stairs as I am elderly, however my daughter and Grand had no problems. I might add our dog Violet thought it was the greatest, perhaps even better than home. I would go back in a second but due to all the stairs, cannot! I think this might be something to inform future tenants if they have a problem. Only thing that did not work was the icemaker, had to do it the old fashioned way. I rated it 4 star only because of all the stairs.

The house was great and so were the amenities. I agree with the other reviews, and recommend this property. We did blow a fuse, and didn't find the fuse box till the next day (it's outside of the house next to the driveway, across from the sauna). And following the rules, had to wash and fold our own sauna towels, which wasn't my favorite part of packing up. But overall we had a great time. The outdoor shower was heavenly and the hot tub was hot. Enjoyed the sauna. Bed was very comfortable. Nice, clean, calm... it's a great getaway.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 05/12/2012
Manager
We're glad your stay was relaxing and thanks for your recommendation. For next time, the location of the fuse box should be listed on the property fact sheet in the house binder. Because of the limited time our housekeepers have to wash and dry all the basic house linens, we do need to ask guests to take of care of any extras the owners provide. --General Manager

The location is perfect for wine tasting in the Russian River Valley, the house itself is perfect for 2 people. The only thing I would like to see improved is the grill. It was small and beat up, not something you could use in my opinion, but the kitchen inside was perfect right down to the bean grinder for fresh coffee! It is a great property and we will definitely consider renting it again next year.

Oakland, CAParadise Under The Redwoods
Left on 10/26/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My partner and our two dogs stayed at absolute Zen for eight days. It was a wonderful stay...like being in a treehouse up in the redwoods. My partner said it was a Second Honeymoon. We were here once before during a cozy long weekend in the rainy offseason, but this stay was so much better with good weather. I loved how the morning light reflected in the upper branches of the trees as I laid in bed. The trees kept us comfortable during the heat and we kept the room airy by opening up the side bedroom doors. We bought and left some basic supplies like plastic wrap, foil, ketchup/mayo and some power strips that would make the next visitors more welcome. The hot tub was a wonderful way to work out all the tensions and brought us to a state of relaxation. It was tricky getting there (especially at night), but we were fine once we learned the way. We've stayed at other properties and wanted an upgrade from our usual rental (Babble-On). The extra space and comfort was welcome and keyless entry made arrival easy. I wish I could be there in late October/mid-November as the vineyard leaves take on the fall colors in the valley. To avoid the heat, we took a drive down the coast for spectacular views with beautiful light reflecting off the waves (like the Provincetown Light) and explored the backroads. We added D's Diner in Sebastapol (Best Diner in Sonoma County) as a new favorite along with our old favorites - Main Street Station, the Garden Grill, Taqueria La Tapatia (and the Taco Truck). We also explored the great dog parks in Healdsburg, Sebastapol and Rohnert Park. Visited the upscale areas in Napa Valley, but I think Guerneville wins hands down for relaxation and lowkey comfort without the pretentions. I wish the TV had two Hdmi connections since we brought our own blu-ray player, but we needed to switch out the Hdmi connection between the Comcast cable box and our blu-ray player. A DVD player is so last century.

We had a wonderful time. The location was great. It was absolutely zen waking up nestled in a redwood forest. Very private and quaint. They thought of everything, not just for their human guests but also their four legged friends. They had toys, bowls and other things for my dog and most importantly a completely febced in yard. We enjoyed the jacuzzi and sauna. Wish our stay could have been longer:( 3 days was not enough. We would definitely stay here again. Fyi-the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because the hammock was not usable. My idea of a vacation is falling asleep in a hammock.

We stayed at absolute Zen for our annyversary and our experience was very pleasant. The bed room was the largest bed room we stayed and my two year old daghter was super excited about the loft. (it require the supervision since the ladder is very steep.)
The house is surrounded by big redwood trees and it was so relaxing and pieceful to have a meal or take a hot tub in that environment.
A few things I would say was that the house isn't quite kids friendly if you have toddlers. The glass dinning table was about the hightower of our daughters eye and she did hit her head at the corner of the table. We made a quick table guard with paper towel, and it helped a lot.
Also the carpet in the living room was keep sliding against the wooden floor, and my kid slipped a few times.
These are very small things and not issues at all if you don't have kids.
When I go back to Russian river again, I will definitely stay here again! -

We entered a space that begged us to relax both inside and out. Comfort all around, lovely fresh air among the trees and birds. Perfect weather for eating outside and enjoying the hot tub. Clean, spacious and over all a delight. The upstairs TV wasn't working, "weak signal". Could not coordinate getting it fixed but found we didn't need it.

We loved this house. It's beautifully set-up on the inside with clean and tasteful decor. The closed back yard is great for worry-free dog time. The kitchen and bathroom (arguably two of the most important rooms in any house!) were totally enjoyable, as was the privacy of the hot tub area. The main reason we gave it four instead of five stars pertains to the rainy winter season. The bedroom is upstairs and very lovely, but when it rains, the sound on the wooden roof is loud. It rained the whole time we were there (December), and while we were prepared for not having much time outside, we weren't as prepared for how loud the sound of the rain would be while we were sleeping. We would absolutely stay at absolute Zen again, though! If we came again in the winter, we would just bring night time ear plugs with us, just in case. If dulled, the sound could dim down to become soothing...

This really is a gem - comfortable, beautiful setting, proximity to town and great hiking in armstrong Redwoods, cozy and relaxing (the hot tub under a canopy of trees after a long day was the best!). The value goes down with the $105 cleaning fee which seemed excessive to say the least. Aside form that, a great place to getaway!

We loved absolute Zen. From the ease of the keyless lock system to the comfort of the hot tub to the cool energy of the surrounding redwoods, the house was perfect as a base for cycling around Sonoma valley. While my dad and brother made use of the upstairs bedroom area, I made do on the comfortable fold-out sofa-bed below. Highly recommended.

In searching for a place to get a way from it all and to rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit, Absolute Zen was the perfect fit. The home is well appointed, spacious and cozy at the same time. The rain bouncing on the roof was a soothing sound while you curled up by the fire reading a book and dozing off. The sauna was wonderful and floating the hot tub under the trees and the stars will remain a fond memory with us for a long time. The location is great for a variety of things, walking on the shores of the Pacific (15 minute drive), Safeway open 24 hours, a winery or several a short drive away, a wander thru Armstrong Woods is a must to experience and for those looking for a bit of retail therapy there a four outlet malls within driving distance should you have the need to shop.
There was many things we liked the bestabout Absolute Zen but most of all was the peaceful surroundings and the comforting embrace of the home. Truly we can't wait until our next visit... -

Great experience, I love that there was a grocery market literally 2 miles away. The house was composed very well and it had a modern feel without taking away from the nature around it. We had a few things that almost ruined our experience but the staff quickly got back to us. The heating upstairs wasn't functioning but the staff came the next day and loaned us a space heater which worked but I feel was a little crude. The next night my girlfriend plugged in her hair dryer and we blew a fuse and no one was available to tell us where the fuse box was located. We ended up running around with my cellphone light and found the box. Other than these setbacks, the cabin exceeded my expectations in many ways so I would have to recommend it but I hope in the future that the staff puts in the fuse box location in their literature and that they double check all appliances before vacationers arrive. -

The upstairs bedroom was where we spent most time lounging around as it was such a spacious and inviting space to be.
Kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed for creating a fantastic Thanksgiving meal. The Sauna was wonderful, the hot tub was fantastic, made even more awesome because of the outdoor shower next to it. The wooded setting was wonderful, but I wish the neighbouring houses weren't so close. While the back yard was fairly private, I was hoping for a bit more seclusion. The meditation yurt I could take or leave.
I appreciated the keyless entry set up. We just pulled up and started enjoying the house without having to stop somewhere first to get a key.
I would rent the house again and will recommend to friends.
Cheers,

My new wife and I stayed here for a weekend during our honeymoon trip. The house was nice and clean, and the grounds were well-kept. The hot tub was great, and the surroundings were very nice. The kitchen was very conducive to cooking meals in, which we enjoyed.
If there was one complaint I had is that given the house is dog-friendly, I had a small allergic reaction. Not sure if it came from sitting on the couch or the bed, but my slight allergy to dogs was put to the test staying in the house. Even then, it wasn't that bad, and I didn't see any evidence of pet hair. -

Our stay at Absolute Zen was simply wonderful. It was very quiet and peaceful. The house is extremely cozy and comfortable. The king sized bed is outstanding! The steam room with the wonderful music CD's put me into an exceptionally peaceful state of mind. The most favorite part of our stay was enjoying the use of the outdoor shower which was a rare and special treat!
If you have dogs (as we do) this house may not be the most perfect place for them as the yard is smaller than we hoped it would be. While the yard is fenced, the fact that it is below the house and down several stairs made it not the most inviting yard for dogs to explore. However, the quiet nearby streets were great for taking them on walks to exercise and enjoy the outdoors. -

I would like to give this place a bad review so no one else would book it when I need to.....but the name speaks for itself.
This was my first time staying in the Guerneville area and preferred something by the river BUT i would stay at zen again. First the place was turn key, had ipod docking stations, hot tub with an outdoor shower, sauna with stereo inside, 2 gas fireplaces that made the place toasty, fully equipped kitchen, king comfy bed, great lighting dimmers and great feng shui. Place was very tastfully decorated and well thought out architectually
Only complaint was this place is very close to neighbors. -
