      Bliss at Bliss

Left on 05/23/2013 for a stay in May 2013

The cabin and it's beautiful location were way beyond our expectations. We throughly enjoyed every minute we spent at Blackberry Bliss. The house was so dog frendly, it had leashes hanging on hooks just outside the front door, blankets in a lovely wooden box to put on the furniture in case your dog likes to kick back on the couch our chair, they also provided doggy towels for drying off your pet after trips to the creek (in the backyard). Our German Shepherd loved swimming in austin Creek! The kitchen was emaculate. Equipped with any cooking item you could possibly need. We never ate out once in our stay becaus the kitchen was such a pleasure to cook in. Outside on the deck, there are 4 hummingbird feeders with 10 to 20 of these little buzzers darting in and out all day long. The entire property is so friendly you cannot walk over 30 feet without having a chair our lounger to sit back in and enjoy being literaly buried in the austin Redwoods. The cabin is so well equipped with Cd's, Dvd's, games, and Wi Fi we never once were bored after the sunset. We were even able to watch our favorite hockey team play in two of their playoff games (big bonus). Due to an unexpected early arrival, the staff was able to get us in a day early. So a big High Five to Justin at Russian River resorts. Thanks for the wonderful experience! We will be back.

Every aspect of the property was as listed. The house was even more charming than we imagined. The location was ideal for what we wanted to see. The privacy was good and the amenities were just what we were looking for and more. We especially enjoyed the Hummingbirds, fireplace, deck and spa. We would absolutely recommend this house to anyone!

Blackberry Bliss is a very unique and quaint little cabin. It's the type of place you never want to leave once you arrive. Whether it's sitting by the creek or listening to the fire crackling in the wood burning stove life just doesn't get any better.

      Comfortable, serene, and private

Left on 05/02/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Blackberry Bliss is awesome! For us the best part was the huge deck - you have the creek within earshot, all the space you need, giant trees to gaze at, comfy loungers and chairs and a billion hummingbirds. If you are a dog owner the deck is semi secure so you can relax and not worry about your dog wandering off to the creek. We have a little terrier and he could fit through the openings in the deck but since it is elevated he did not try. If your dog is a dare devil and a wanderer it might squeeze through the deck openings. The BBQ and hot tub are great and the deck gets a good amount of sun even though you are in the trees.

There is a large flat yard below the deck area, it is not a lawn or anything but the dog loved it. Also the creek is wonderful. We were there in april and it was moving pretty good. You could not swim in it or anything but there are chairs you can bring down and relax next to the water. There are neighbors on either side but you can only really see them from the front yard or the creek. When we were there it seemed like no one was home at either of the neighboring houses.

This place is actually really sizable with a large dressing room off the bedroom and an extra sun room with a bed in it. There is no privacy though inside the house. The bedroom opens up to the living room and there are no doors. For us this was a non-issue since it was just the two of us but it is good to know if you are bringing a kid.

We were there for the weekend and never left the property. It is an amazing relaxing retreat with everything you need. The one negative was the bed was not comfortable to us. It was definitely not the worst rental bed I have encountered but it was a little on the soft side. If you are looking for a spot to lounge, sun, read, and cook/eat this is it.

We had a wonderful stay at Blackberry Bliss. The location is quiet and secluded, yet just a short drive from anywhere we wanted to go. The setting is beautiful and we loved watching the hummingbirds on the back deck. If we could change one thing, and it's an easy fix, the bed really could use a new mattress.

      Beautiful cabin

Left on 12/05/2012 for a stay in November 2012

The cabin was great on a beautiful spot right next to a creek with a huge yard. When we went it was early November and very cold that weekend, so we didn't go in the creek but the hot tub was great and it was great having the little fireplace inside. Lots of wood and kindling and the deck was a great place to hang out and enjoy the quiet and fresh air, even when it was chilly out. Once we got the cabin heated up after arrival we were nice and warm inside. The kitchen was very well stocked with dishes and cookware, although I was disappointed to discover there was no working oven -- which wasn't at all clear from the cabin information.

The iPod dock in the stereo didn't work, and I was a little I also recommend printing out your own directions there in advance, as the directions provided by the rental agency are not helpful. Finally, I was put off by being required to wash our own dishes and take out the trash upon departure, when we paid a $90 cleaning fee. Not a great value, but if you're OK with the splurge it is a lovely place to stay.

The oven and the iPod dock are supposed to work, of course. They were broken and have been fixed. If something doesn't work during your stay, please call us for help, so we can get it fixed for your stay. Most people do fine with our directions, and Internet mapping is not reliable for this area. We do need guests to do a little basic clean up before they leave. This is standard for vacation rentals.

      Enjoyed the quiet.

Left on 10/30/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Just returned to the real world and am expecting to wake up soon. This property was a very nice and very quiet place to spend a week. It was more than advertised.

Since nothing is perfect I will reflect on what happened with Friday morning. My wife got up and mixed dough for biscuits and was going to put them in the oven. This stove was fairly new and real nice looking, however, the wife and I both agreed that we were much too old to become computer programmers. Needless to say we could not get the oven to fire up and tossed out the biscuit dough. For a rental we also agreed that we would rather have a user friendly stove.

The humming birds were great and we spent most of our week watching them when they would come in for their nectar.

All in all it was a nice peacefull week away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Our stay at Blackberry Bliss was everything we had hoped for ...a quiet secluded getaway. The cabin was delightfully decorated and had a fully equipped kitchen. Part of the adventure was discovering all the extras that we're provided; games, music & movies. Candles, radio, flashlights and dog blankets, BBQ and laundry facilities. It actually became a game to think of an item that had not been provided. This cabin was so well equipped I kept thinking someone would walk in and tell me to get out of their home. As we were pulling out of the driveway we were planning our next stay.

The photos on the website give you an idea of the beauty and comfort of Blackberry Bliss, but reality is even better. This property is maintained by people who notice details and want a perfect cabin. The only criticism we might have would be the master bath while beautiful is cramped. We definitely plan to return again next year. Oh, I forgot to say the cabin is in the middle of amazing redwood trees. Absolutely wonderful!

The home is updated, clean, sweetly personalized and eclectically furnished and decorated with nice colors. The back deck is so spacious, and it was nice to have the gate so our elderly Springer Spaniel didn't try to sneak down to the creek by herself. We took this vacation time for rest and relaxation, and we succeeded mightily, thanks to the comfort of the home and the quiet neighborhood. It was fun trying out all the different outdoor sitting areas. The blackberries were fabulous and plentiful. We even saw a mother fox and one kit as they crossed the property near the creek. Delightful!

Blackberry Bliss is just that, absolute bliss! The house is beautiful with gorgeous furnishings, an amazing deck and the creek right out your door. The redwood trees are amazing and our whole stay was so peaceful and relaxing. Walking and swimming in the creek, reading on the deck, a dip in the hot tub at night, breakfast outdoors, we could not have been happier. The kitchen had everything we needed and the outdoor grill was brand new when we arrived. I was certain from the previous reviews I had read that this house would be perfect and it was.

A delightful slice of blackberry heaven!

Left on 07/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We were impressed to enter a clean space with no hint of previous dogs: no hair or odors to suggest other pets had stayed there. The large enclosed deck allowed our four legged pup to roam from sunny patch to shade as his mood suited him. The highlight of our stay was the easy access to the creek, where we spent the majority of our time wading in the cool, clear water.

The unit is small and over crowded with furniture inside, considering it sleeps 2-3. Five seating areas were unnecessary and we moving some chairs into the office to give ourselves room to move without bumping into things.

We called the rental office to report out concern that there did not appear to be adequate smoke detectors in the home. There was evidence of two (missing) detectors and no visible active ones.

The damper on our stay was heavy machinery of a crew removing a large redwood and grinding the stump at a neighbors. Of course the owners, nor the rental agency, had any control over this noise disturbance, it was noise polution we had to live with. Instead of peace and quiet, we had an industrial orchestra of chainsaws, workers shouting from ground to treetop, the earthshaking boom of falling sections of the sacrificial ancient tree, and the incessant beep beep beep of tractors rolling forward and bach as they maneuvered through the job.

We rated the value as poor because the high rate for this limited sleeping space (2-3) did not seem in line with the cost of other available dog-friendly units in the area with the option of more guests. We are frequent renters in this area, and the personal touch of a bottle of wine, or pint of blackberries (as we have enjoyed from other rentals) would go a long way towards taking the sting out of the high cost of the small unit.

Most people think that Blackberry Bliss is worth the cost because it is a totally fabulous house and setting! The house only sleeps two people (not three), and there is an active smoke and CO detector. It's placed according to standards, which put it partially behind a piece of furniture. The owner will remove the holder for the old one so that there's no confusion. -Rachel, general manager

Everything about our stay was perfect. The accomodations are extremely comfortable and we didn't want for anything. The private hot tub on the deck provided a cozy, romantic setting for drinking our champagne. The grounds are beautiful and we even had a little fox pop his head out of the bushes to say hello. The creek was at a low point but that didn't stop up from taking a daily walk down the path to enjoy the scenery. We drove into Guernville, Monte Rio and Duncan Mills. The hummingbirds at the cottage made such an impression on me that I bought a cute little hummingbird feeder at a little store in Duncan Mills. We visited Raymond's Bakery in Cazadero and bought a baguette for dipping, some muffins for the next morning and some chocolate chip cookies to take home to our boys. All in all, the rental agency, the stay and mostly the company was perfect. We will be back!!! :o)

      Relaxing

Left on 10/05/2011 for a stay in September 2011

This place is great if you want a nice, homey, peaceful place to get away from it all for a few days. Beautiful views, right on the river (East austin Creek), a fenced deck so we didn't have to worry about our city dog chasing raccoons or anything. Inside, it is comfy and the kitchen is well stocked with whatever tools you need.

It's hard to find anything not positive to say but I'll dig for something so people won't think this is faked... if you like to watch TV, the TV is a little small and far away from the couch. But why are you watching TV on vacation? (True story: we had booked way in advance so in 2009 we were staying there when the Giants won the World Series for the first time in 50 years. I watched pretty much every inning and that's the only reason I remember this tiny complaint. But that's why I was watching TV on vacation.)

Seriously, this place has pretty much everything I'd want in a vacation rental.

Great Mothers' Day Stay!-will return if upholstry's cleaned!

Left on 05/17/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Overall impression: Wonderful place. Perfect for 2 1/2+dog. We liked the cabin so much that we never went into town. The tall redwoods make it so cozy & prolong dusk & dawn.
Creek: Awesome! I though the pics were of the nearby river, but it's the creek the property is on. We had a great time wading in the shallow parts-bring water shoes!
Outside: Blackberry bushes by the waterfront (no berries yet). Well-equipped for fun: several seating spots in the yard, shade umbrellas, spare dog leashes, tons of firewood, clean 2person spa, great deck with gate, rags for muddy dogs. Watch for poison oak all along the side of the road.
Inside: Separate room with daybed. Master bdrm is open to the rest of the house, but we noticed 2 nails in the doorframe for hanging a privacy sheet. Next to master bdrm is a huge changing room w/ a desk, and 2nd bathroom w/ hair dryer, spa towels & dog/creek towels (BYO shampoo, soap, etc.) Kitchen was pretty well-stocked and cute.
Negatives: I'm allergic to dust mites & was really allergic to the plush furniture (but not the bed). Within minutes of sitting on an easychair, my eyes were itching & I needed my inhaler. I had to take benedryl on top of daily meds for the stay & drape towels over the furniture or sit on the wooden chairs. Cleaning crew needs to vacuum the furniture & maybe get a professional upholstry cleaning. Everything else was clean. The spa lamp wasn't working, & the wooden stove needs the vent cleared out: the fire kept suffocating with the door closed even though we directions correctly. We noticed these things after bus. hours, so it was too late to call RRG so they could rectify the problems.
Check-in/out: Keyless entry'd be great so that check-in/check-out times could be for the cabin, not the office 30 min away.
Privacy: The cabin directly next to ours was vacant, so it felt completely private. We hiked along the road, and met friendly neighbors w/ dogs. There was one house with a fierce dog roped out in front.

Bliss is a perfect name for this little cabin. Much thought went in to setting up this place. The extra little touches and all the amenities make this a very comfortable getaway. The creek was lovely. Bunnie, our Golden Retriever, had such a good time swimming two days in a row that she could barely walk on the third day. The home is so beautiful, with the back porch with the hummingbirds, hot tub and all the beautiful trees. Jessie would lay on the porch and watch the hummingbirds while Tom and I would hot tub, then we would go for walks down the beautiful street. It truely was heaven on earth. We will definately come back in the very near future!

      Heaven on earth

Left on 08/19/2009 for a stay in August 2009

Oh my gosh, where to begin? It was heaven, the location, the house, the comfort level, the ammenities, everything. It was perfect for our pooches too. Notes around the house were nice as to what owners wanted or not wanted or allwed. It's location was amazing, the redwoods like welcoming friends. And one of the nicest things in the evening was to relax in the hot tub! a real plus. It was just perfect, and I would love to be able to stay there again and hope that finances make it possible. The house rental itself seemed reasonable, but by the time cleaning, tax, and cancelation insurance, breakage insurance, etc, it made it more expensive than I could do again, and I don't know how to avoid all that, more to think about on this end :) Thank you so much for the best vacation in years. Oh, another GREAT plus: I didn't realize how close to the ocean it was, and being an ocean girl, we spent most of our time at the beaches between Jenner and bodega! And had the most awesome weather. I do think I left part of my heart there and hope I will be back to reclaim it! many many thanks, Sincerely, Sara Lindsey

One of the Best Vacations Ever!

Left on 08/12/2009 for a stay in August 2009

Believe it or not, the photos do not do Blackberry Bliss justice. It has the perfect combination of a backwoods getaway mixed with a four star hotel. The location is perfect on a quiet country road with creek access. The house stays cool under the redwoods while you can get your sun on the deck or out by the creek. The furnishings were beautiful and the kitchen (for a cook) was to die for. We had many gourmet meals in this beautiful setting (we ate every meal on the deck). We loved the video library of old movies and the bed was so comfortable. But most importantly, we were able to vacation with our dogs who enjoyed many long walks along the country road, sunning on the deck and taking many many naps. Our youngest, Violet, also enjoyed carrying around the stuffed moose you had in the dog basket. Thank you for making this home available for rental. We hope to come back next year - for two weeks!

Blackberry Bliss is just that "BLISS". Our humans took us here for our
vacation because they know how much we love the water. Rumor has
it that the creek does dry up in the summer but since there were
recent rains we had plenty of water in which to swim and play. We
would take long walks up and down river. Gosh were we tired when
we got back to the house but there was a great deck were we could
spend the afternoon sleeping. Our humans loved the house which
was very comfortable and well stocked with everything you might
need even a water bowl for us. The recipe for blackberry cobbler was
      a wonderful touch.
Rumor has it we will be returning sometime soon. We don't know to
much about the star rating system but we would definitely give it five
      paws.

      great city-escape

my girlfriend and i had a great stay at blueberry bliss. the cabin is very charming and great for a couple. it rained most of the time we were there, so we just made fires in the wood burning stove, watched movies, and forgot about our lives in the city. the cabin is right on the creek and amidst the redwoods. it was very relaxing to soak in the hot tub and look up at the trees while raindrops fell on our heads.
