Initmate Getaway in the Woods

We keep returning to Russian River Getaways because you know exactly what you're getting and the rental process is up front, professional, and convenient. Cazadero Heaven was no exception. The house is well appointed, and everything was as expected and working properly. I took advantage of the winter specials for a weekend retreat by myself, and I felt safe and secure. The bar attached to the hot tub cover was especially helpful for one-person operation. My favorite thing was to get up before the sun rose and sit in the hot tub, looking up through the canopy of redwood trees to watch the sky get light. Between the heater in the living room and the space heater in the bedroom, the house was warm and cozy. The house isn't really walking distance from anything, but I wasn't going anywhere anyway. The owners have left several notes about great places to go for hiking, dining, watching the sunset, etc. The bathroom is a bit small, room for one person at a time -- again, not a problem for one or two people, but a larger group will have some negotiating to do. We had a great little stay at Cazadero Heaven. It's well cared for, and has plenty of amenities, such as the excellent TV and nice sound system, all set up with great care and with clear instructions where needed. My 3 1/2 year old enjoyed watching old VHS tapes and Dvds of kid's shows. Meanwhile, when the TV was off I plugged my iPhone in using the provided plug and we listened to Stan Getz & Art Tatum Pandora stations (thanks to fast and reliable WiFi) and it sounded amazing. I'm giving specifics because I highly recommend it!
I am not one to focus on negatives, especially after the fact. I tend to find ways to solve problems and/or adapt and move on, and I take away the good feelings as memories. However, I will mention that the shower tends to leak a bit at the corner where the doors meet, so we kept a towel on the floor there during showers. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of.
Overall, I found what I needed and got away from my normal life for a few days. I was comfortable and had a pleasant time. I look forward to doing it again. Thanks!
We didn't want to leave!

Got exactly what was advertised - a cozy, completely stocked hideaway surrounded by beauty and serenity. The space of the property was just right for us (two couples), and great hiking & fishing nearby. We especially enjoyed the fireplace, hot tub, and kitchen. This place is more amazing that the pictures could ever show. You are completely secluded in your own private paradise with civilization a short drive away.
We used every ammenity there. The fireplace was great at night while we watched a movie. The outdoor grill was great for the steaks and of course the hot tub was sooo relaxing after a long day hiking.
The owners of this cabin have thought of everything!

The name says it all! A perfect getaway tucked under the redwoods and so peaceful! Home was so comfortable and was home away from home. Even though our 2 days were hit by unexpected rain and thunderstorms in June, we made the best of it and drove to the nearby beaches for a walk on the beach and had a cozy fire and played games.. No river fun on this trip but it exceptional and we loved our stay. Will be back for sure! Read more
You picked the perfect place to weather some unseasonable weather! The redwoods are definitely the place to be in the rain, so magical. I'm so glad you were so comfortable at Cazadero Heaven, and I hope you'll be back soon. -Rachel, Russian River Getaways

This is our second time back to Cazadero Heaven and it was even better than the first! We had great weather, even though it was a bit cold at night :), and we couldn't get the fireplace to work, but as we were pooped out by our hikes during the day (in the armstrong Woods State Park nearby), and our wine tasting throughout Dry Creek and alexander Valleys, Sonoma and Napa Valleys as well, we did not really need it. We loved soaking in the hot tub everynight as soon as we got home and having the comfort of cooking our own meals was great. I also loved that we had wireless. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Read more
There should be instructions for the fireplace in the house binder, and if you need more help, next time call us. -Rachel

Cazadero Heaven is an incredible experience right in the Redwood Forest! So comfortable and quiet. A place to just sit and be. We enjoyed all of the amenities - fully stocked kitchen, comfy beds, fireplace, and the out door settings with the hot tub and deck. Love the chair looking up at the Redwood Trees.. Amazing! If I lived closer, I be here more often.. Hope to return again sometime.. Thank you for sharing this little piece of heaven. Thank you for making it so easy...

I'm a New Yorker now living in Petaluma. Everyone made fun of me when I said I was "getting away" to the Russian River. They said it was so close.
That's exactly the point. I always hear about people going to Tahoe, they complain about the traffic and how long it took them. But we had our Russian River Getaway within an hour of leaving our home. A great beginning.
The house itself was lovely. It was delightful having the hot tub. Once in it, you felt you were the only ones around. The stairway to the hot tub was a bit of a challenge, but worth it.
Great that you loved this house and your local getaway. Please do come back more often and enjoy! -general manager

Cazadero Heaven was warm and comforting for Cold Winter Weather. The best parts were sitting in the hot tub and looking up into the trees, as well as the fairy ring with chair in the middle- very special. This little cabin was very cozy, stocked with great movies. The only down side was we could not figure out how to get the wood stove working properly, maybe needs maintenance? Also we have a precocious 2 year old and there is no deadbolt or latch on the inside of the front door, or screen door. The house is perfectly secure from the outside, locks immediately, but for kids I would absolutely add a child secure lock on the inside. Read more
We're so glad you enjoyed this home. We'll suggest an inside lock to the owner. The fireplace is working fine, so I think this must have been user error. These are sometimes tricky to figure out, but the place to start is the house binder, which should have instructions. If that fails, definitely give us a call, so we can help you out. -General Manager

We had a great time. A friend was visiting from New York for her birthday-she lived in San Francisco for a while before moving - She misses redwoods, vineyards, and wine tasting -we got to enjoy all three!
A few things to mention about the house-( worrisome because its mostly electrical)
The outlet in the Kitchen needs to be attached -(by the toaster it moves freely out of the wall-scary!)
The lamp over the couch closest to the Dining Table has a weird short.
One of the Globes on the fan is disconnected and Dangling -Also scary.
The Shower is quite leaky.
There is no electric started on the Grill its appears to be broken?
Overall we had a great experience the fire was wonderful, the hot tub relaxing, the forest beautiful. I can't wait until I get to escape again.
We're so glad you had a great time at this home. These items were all fixed long ago. -Rachel, general manager

The house was really sweet and super stocked with everything one could need in the kitchen. Hot tub was great! A bit of an odd smell in the house, but after building a fire, it seemed to dissipate. Proximity to the ocean and some sunlight was good. Bring your own kindling to build a fire... Read more
We're so glad you enjoyed this bit of heaven (couldn't resist)! We'll check out the smell, but other than the smell of the fireplace itself (which is typical of a small house heated by a fireplace), there haven't been other reports on this. -Rachel, general manager

Cazadero Heaven was beautifully appointed; even having seen the photos, the cabin was far lovelier than we'd imagined. We very much appreciated the efforts to make dog owners feel welcome, from the basket of "muddy paws" towels by the front door to the water bowl in the kitchen. Great DVD and board game collection, too-- on a rainy evening, we spent a great night by the fire watching action movies and playing Scrabble. The owners' notes on favorite beaches gave us some great advice, and we spent an amazing day watching the harbor seals at Goat Rock.
It's obvious the carpets have been recently replaced. Bed linens were ample and luxurious. Plenty of helpful signage to help with fireplace, lights, hot tub. Two small items that I'd suggest to make an otherwise well-stocked kitchen a bit friendlier for future guests: an inexpensive pitcher and some basic plastic tupperware to hold leftovers.
Finally, RRG staff was efficient and helpful both times I called; paperwork came swiftly and was easy to navigate. An excellent experience. Read more
Thanks for sharing your great experience, both with the house and our staff. We'll pass the request for kitchen items on to the owners, as these are things we usually have in our homes. -rkl

Left on 10/20/2011 for a stay in October 2011 | Weekenders
Beautiful redwoods all over the property, lovely location for the hot tub, but a couple of things were sort of disappointing. The carpets in the bedrooms really, really should be cleaned asap. Saw on the other reviews that was planned, but seems to be taking a while. It's a bit grim: feels unloved and... well.
Kitchen very well stocked for cooks, and the keyless entry very convenient, and so nice to have a woodfire inside.
Leaving was a bit of a rush the next morning, knowing that we would get stuck with so much money if we were even a few minutes over the eleven o'clock check out. Certainly didn't want to have to pay extra, even if it could have gone to cleaning those dirty carpets!
The bakery down the road is super cute, and using the Russian River Getaway service was very very convenient, the staff helpful and kind. Would definitely book through them again, but probably wouldn't go to this place again until it was cleaned. Read more
It's always amazing to me how a few folks will let one small aspect of a home ruin an otherwise great time. The carpets are indeed getting replaced this fall. Anyway, we're glad these guests enjoyed this home and our service and plan to return. -rkl

Cazadero Heaven is very close to other adorable towns like Duncans Mills, Jenner, Guerneville, and Monte Rio. Loved the setting of the house. With the exception of the terribly stained carpets in the bedrooms, the house was pleasantly clean. There is a problem with the TV - randomly displayed a large black square taking up most the screen, but this did not happen all the time and we didn't watch too much TV anyway. The hot tub was very clean, ran perfectly, and was placed in the perfect location on the property. The house was well stocked. Would recommend Cazadero Heaven to others. Read more
Glad these folks enjoyed this gem of a house so much. About the TV, I wish they had called us, so we could have seen it and fixed it. Ultimately, the owners were able to figure out the problem and have fixed it. The carpets are scheduled to be replaced. -rkl

If you are looking for a place that you can relax, that's quiet, not too out of the way, this is the place for you. The cabin was spacious and perfect for 2. It was clean, has a full kitchen, and a barbeque outside, to meet any culinary needs, and we had access to wireless internet and cable TV. The only thing that didn't work were our cellphones (we have at&T;), which was not a problem.
We came to the Russian River Valley to get away, but also to hike, and to go wine tasting. It was the perfect location for both. Cazadero is very close to the armstrong Woods St. Park (in Guernville), where lots of redwood trees are and hiking. We had awesome weather, so went hiking every morning. We'd return back to the cabin for lunch, then we went out to the different wineries in the Russian River Valley, which was so much fun, and then returned to cook dinner, eat and later on in the evening, sit in the hot tub and reflect on our day. It was perfect and we hated to leave.
We brought our food with us, but didn't really need to as we had easy access to a grocery store in Guernville, 15 min drive away. Although it was too cold to sit outside much, we would love to come back and take advantage of sitting out on both decks, front and back of the cabin.
It was an awesome stay. We loved the keyless entry, and although we got locked out on the final day, the people at the office in Guernville were very nice and helpful, so we were able to get back in to pick up our stuff before heading home.
We would highly recommend this place for a great vacation.

My partner and our two friends stayed for 3 nights in rainy March. We stayed in the Cazadero Heaven cabin and explored Cazadero, Guernville and Jenner, but mostly we stayed inside with a warm fire and relaxed-- winding down from our hectic lives. The cabin was spacious, clean, comfortable, and the toiletries and small food items were a bonus! The had great movies too! This is the perfect place for a little peace and quiet.

Cazadero Heaven is just that, heaven in Cazadeo. What a wonderful, cozy little cabin! Loved the keyless entry, we got there late on Friday night, and it was so nice to just go straight to the cabin. The kitchen is great, everything we needed was there, even an espresso machine! It rained all weekend, the power went out for 14 hours, we didn't care, the cabin had a fireplace, flashlights, candles, everything we needed, it was perfect! Very romantic and relaxing! We had a great time! The location is perfect also, we went out to eat in Occidental, to the ocean at Goat Rock Beach by Jenner, shopping in Guerneville and Monte Rio, and they were all less than half hour drives!
Even better than imagined!

After seeing the photos on line I loved the place but...being there is amazing. The house has an amazing leather couch by the fireplace, movies galore, a very well equiped kitchen, an enormous hot tub, and the cutest little chair in the redwood stumps. I would recommend it highly and definitely consider returning. We were traveling with our Giant Schnauzer and even though we brought her things, they had food bowls available which was very welcoming.

We had the most relaxing and restorative week at Cazadero Heaven. The Russian River Valley is quickly becoming one of our favorite places to spend the holidays. It's amazing how far from the world you can feel and still only be a couple hours from the bay area!
The house is adorable, comfortable, well equipped, and was very clean when we arrived. We appreciated being able to do laundry during our stay, the heat worked well, beds were comfortable, hot tub was fantastic, and the neighborhood was so quiet and dark that we slept like logs every night.
My partner is a chef, and he had a great time cooking up a storm in the well-appointed kitchen. I spent tons of time knitting by the fire and a little time playing on my computer. The internet connection was great - super fast. We also walked along the creek, explored the adorable surrounding towns, and enjoyed nightly soaks in the hot tub.
Check in was really easy because of the keyless entry. Booking is always simple through Rrg's website. If you do need to call or go in to their office, they are really nice and helpful.
(Quick note: we both live in tiny studio apartments, so for us this was like staying in a really big house for a week. We even had two friends come up for dinner and an overnight and it never felt crowded.)

My three children, dog and I stayed at Cazadero Heaven. It was very nice. The house was well appointed, there were even dog towels and bowls! The kitchen had everything we needed. The one downside was the carpet in the bedrooms - doggie stains. We wore our shoes because there were so many pee spots. Also, the bathroom was a little funky. Austin Creek was just a short walk down the street - it was lovely. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I would strongly recommend that they change the carpets or put down wood in the bedrooms. Oh, we had trouble with smoke coming from the fireplace so we didn't use it.

What a find! Cazadero Heaven was just what we were looking for in a long weekend retreat. The cabin was beautifully appointed and really felt like someone put a lot of love into their getaway cabin. The kitchen was fully appointed to facilitate any culinary concoctions you might want to create. The living room was very comfy with the leather sofa and wood stove to keep you warm. Bedrooms were perfectly adequate with comfortable beds and linens. The bathroom was small but adequate for a cabin.
Outside the cabin is a very nice deck in the front and back of the house with the hot tub up the hill from the back door. The hot tub was a great treat after a day of fun on the river. Kayaking on the Russian River was our favorite activity. Eclectic towns abound in this area with some good food and great people.
We had four adults and one dog and we all had enough space to stretch out and relax. I would recommend Caz Heaven to anyone interested in getting away from the City to their own private stand of redwoods.

This place was unique from the start. The description was correct and it is in a beautiful location and it does have a hot tub but that is about all. It was a dark little cabin which isn't really the problem but it does lead to it. The cabin isn't aired out with any regularity so it smells musty even when you leave the doors open for most of the day. Since it is a cabin but shortly after WWII is has some charm but I really couldn't get past the smell. I would recommend the rental company but not this property.

The hot tub is amazing - you can forget you are anywhere else! The house comes with a lot of extras you wouldn't think of, like a pack 'n' play, doggie towels, games, DVD's, and more. It was the cleanest rental I've ever been in. And, if it couldn't get any better, the directions include "turn right at the Babe Ruth statue." That cracked me up.
