This is the 3rd or 4th house we have rented so far. I do have to say the property is too close to the road, but beautiful. My husband and I had a very relaxing time. The beach is always spectacular.

The cabin itself needs a major facelift inside. On the other hand it was spotless clean and we felt comfortable. It was very quiet, the hot tub was great (also extremely clean) and the gas grill had an extra propane tank. If you are looking for a luxurious space this is not it. If you are looking for clean, comfortable and quiet then you found the place.
It's a large studio: perfect for two but there is no privacy for more than a couple. -

The house was perfect for 2 people. Our dog loved the grassy area next to the house. The bed is a little bit too soft, but we slept well. We were concerned about the road noise, but the house is well insulated and we were not disturbed at night.

Martinez, CAHot Tub in the Redwoods
Left on 09/07/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My husband and I stayed for a week in Foxfire. We were pleasantly surprised by how well the kitchen was supplied with small Cuisinart machines, full sets of dishes, and a large sink (having stayed in other places not so well equipped). The hot tub was wonderful to sink into, say, around 4pm in the afternoon with a wine cooler in hand, the sun starting its descent in the sky. The temperature was a little cool for a hot tub but we stayed in longer because of that reading and relaxing. Austin Creek in the back is quite lovely with little swimming holes within walking distance of the cabin. The water is very clear, cool but not icy. The cabin is very private with a gate at the road entry way. The yard is not closed off from the house behind it so we had to mind our dog so she wouldn't stray over there. We had trouble getting the DVD player to work, but still, we would rent this cabin again. We recommend visiting Duncan Mills for eating and shopping; lots of little shops. The Blue Heron makes a fantastic cooler and a mean Reuben!

Foxfire exceeded my expectations, I just love it! I stayed at different Getaways, this one is perfect for a romantic getaway. The cabin is right size for a couple and its very secluded if u can deal with a little car noise coming from highway. Its more like a street than a highway. The value was awesome, the only thing I can say bad is get a real TV. But that outdated TV was a plus because, I couldnt figure out how to use dvd so we didnt watch but spent quality time together. Ill be back getaways real soon loved Heronwood, Fern n now Foxfire cabins. I just love picking all ur unique cabins, they rock!

The service leading up to our stay and the amenities of the cabinwere great. The large yard and easy access to the creek bed made walking with the dogs a daily activity. Although austin creek is a bit cold we were still close enough to the Russian river to get some swimming in. The gated entry provided privacy but we would have liked to be further away from the road .
It is a beautiful setting and we will come back again.Response from Russian River Getaways - 07/16/2012

Left on 01/04/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We've stayed here a couple of times and really enjoy it. It's a cozy one room cabin which is perfect for two people and a dog (four people could be pushing it). Great kitchen, comfy bed, wonderful yard leading down to a creek. Fab hot tub on a great deck with a nice BBQ. Tv is a little antiquated and there isn't much cable but if you're looking to get away from it, this is the place. Neighbors are quiet although the property is right next to another. There is still an incredible amount of privacy and the hot tub is completely private. We'll be back again!

Our stay was from sept 29 thru Oct 3 2011.We were pleasantly suprised when we arrived. We had no problems and no complaints.Everything was just perfect.Everything in the cabin was clean and very well stocked. All we really needed to bring was a toothbrush,a little food and minor basics. There is quite a bit of traffic noise, mostly during the day but other than that it was peaceful and private. The hot tub was fantastic. The rain storm as we were leaving was pretty awesome too.We will definitely be coming back to fox fire.

We needed a break from the city, and picked Foxfire as our destination. The cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The property was clean and well kept. The wood stove was nice and there was firewood available. We experienced some noise from the cars going by on the road, but other than that, this property is relaxing and very quiet. The hot tub was fabulous, and the wireless internet a nice luxury. Affordable, and off the beaten path, this property delivered rest and relaxatoin. The coast is not far away, and the small towns close by offer exploration opportunities.

Quiet except for road noise.Felt like home.We enjoyed the red kitchen accesories.Really wonderful to sit on the deck and have breakfast then head out to the ocean 10 minutes away.2 excellent bakeries minutes away. Doran Regional Beach was nice for a picnic with the dog. Explored Russian River, ocean beaches, surrounding towns. So much to choose from we will have to come back. Left on 09/16/2011 for a stay in September 2011
Upon arrival we were happy with the location although it's right off the street. There were many beautiful trees and a creek near by which was not very accessable, there were shrubs/bushes growing over the path. The inside of the house was not clean we had to mop the floors and the linens on the bed were moist! We had to open all the windows of the house due to a very bad muggy oder. We ended up leaving a day early... I wouldn't recommend to my family or friends.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 09/21/2011
Manager
The property is on a street (as all homes in this area are), but the house itself is near the back of a large lot, about as far away from the street as you can get, without being in the creek. This booking was soon after a plumbing mishap where the washing machine flooded the house. The floor was cleaned multiple times before this booking, and the bedding was clean, however we there was obviously still moisture in the house. Obviously, this is not a common occurrence, not typical for this house. The plumbing problem is now fixed, so it will not happen again. The brush has been cleared from the path. Things grow so quickly here, it's hard to keep up! If these folks had called us, we could have had it cleared while they were there. -rkl

Left on 08/24/2011 for a stay in August 2011
This is a charming and well-stocked cabin, complete with food processor, coffee grinder, and all kinds of cookware as well as board games, art materials, paperbacks, and videos The optimal way to experience this cabin (in my opinion) would be to stock up on groceries in Sebastopol -- where there's a good choice of supermarkets -- and then stay put for the duration of your visit.. Although the cabin is compact, it felt roomy enough for the four of us plus dogs, and we enjoyed hanging out in the hot tub at night and playing in the creek during the day. The wifi worked perfectly.
The drawbacks for me.
* You have to drive everywhere. Cazadero (blink and you'll miss it) is four miles away, Guerneville about twice as far. There are very few decent restaurants within a reasonable distance (hence my earlier recommendation about stocking up on food!)
* The highway. Other reviewers said they didn't notice the proximity of the road. I guess it depends on what you are used to. For someone like me who lives in a relatively quiet residential neighborhood, having vehicles zooming by, just a few feet away, was disconcerting. Not only was it noisy, but getting out of the driveway was always mildly terrifying. Too, we had to stay with the dogs constantly because there was no barrier between the grounds (which were beautiful) and the road with its high-speed traffic. I would not want to come here with a toddler.
Although I loved having a washer/dryer right in the cabin, the noise the washer made was almost comical. The first time I used it was at night, and our bed was bouncing for about 5 minutes. I also found the bed uncomfortable, though my husband and sons were fine.
All that said, once I got used to the highway noise -- which was intermittent rather than constant -- it was just enough wilderness for me, and the kids and dogs loved the creek. The setting is picturesque, and the rental company was able to accommodate our scheduling request, which I greatly appreciated. -

The service was excellent. Everything was spelled out very clearly. Even though it is an old cabin, it has been remodeled and is very clean. It would be nice if there was a wall or better divider for the bedroom. The sofabed was not very confortable, but most sofabeds are not. Even though the main road was right there, it was quiet and there was a very well made fence, so you don't have to worry about children. The deck with the hot tub seemed new. Having a creek right there was wonderful for the children. We waded through it to get to a large beach. We rented this for the Redwood trees and it certainly didn't disappoint us...They were magnificent!

This place was awesome for a couple with a small dog. We liked it the minute we rolled in a cozy grove of Red Woods. The cabin was clean and very well equipt with everything you need.
I always carry my pillow on all trips but this time I forgot it. But turned out that the mattress and the pillows were just fine and we had no problems.
The gas grill is located right on the deck and the entire week we used it for all food preparation. We hit farmers market in Occidental and Sevastopol and had plenty of grilling done.
The road noise was insignificant.
The huge advantage of this cabin is staying in the cool shadow. It was 95C at Guerneville and 76C at Firefox. But you can sunbathe right across the small creak and get all the sun you might want.
We watched fireworks just down the street on 4th of July and the traffic was going the other way on the way back. Nice!
Overall the value was great. It's nice to have this place on the list but there are so much more to explore. But We do recommend it.
Salute!

I went up there with a coworker to spend a couple days wrapping up a big project. It was wonderfully isolated and quiet and relaxing, the perfect place to focus. Even though we worked the whole time I came back feeling like I'd been on vacation for the weekend. There's no break from work quite like sitting in a hot tub watching wood-stove smoke drift through the fog in the redwoods...

Thia was a heavenly getaway. The little house is sweet. The bed is comfy. The setting is perfect. A babbling creek right there. Green grass, beautiful redwoods, and lots of quiet. Don't let the word "Highway" in the address scare you off. This is a street that goes to a small town. Not exactly the 101. Not even the 116. So, Foxfire is absolutely a must. We intend to treat Foxfire like our own little cabin in the Russian River area. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

My husband and I took our golden retriever up for a long weekend of wine tasting and relaxing. We got the third night free due to the winter rates, so it was a nice respite. The hottub on the deck was great! We also used the BBQ on the deck, so it is easy to stay in and cook rather than going out. The deck is fully enclosed so the dog could go in and out without worry. We also loved the woodstove, which made it cozy. Very quiet and enjoyable.

A sweet little cabin right on the Cazadero creek. Small, but cozy. Not recommended for two couples as there really isn't much separation between the bedroom area and the rest of the cabin. Lovely hot tub overlooking the yard and creek. Huge yard, very private and extremely quiet. Definitely requires extraordinary heating efforts as there is no central heat but the little wood burning stove outputs well! Comfy bed. Great kitchen with all the supplies needed to cook. Basic TV, nothing fancy. Wireless Internet worked great!

Left on 09/23/2009 for a stay in September 2009
First and foremost, we love Russian River Getaways. We use their services to plan our annual Russian River vacation and enjoy renting a different home each year. The staff is very pleasant, professional and will assist with selecting the home that suits your needs as best as possible.
The Foxfire was least of our favorites. The owner should have the structure inspected because the floor dips in areas. The bathroom is in real need of repair, replacing the shower insert and flooring because the toilet does sit at a tilt. Bathroom sink is very low especially for tall people. The divider between the bedroom and dining area needs to be replaced, it is inoperable. The decor is mixmatch with no specific theme and needs some updating. Kitchen is well equipped.
Even though this home is located directly off the Cazadero Hwy, the home is gated and provides the privacy and safety for us dog lovers. Surprisingly enough, there was not a lot of noise from the highway as one would expect. In comparison to other homes we have rented, the front yard was our favorite because it is large and conducive for dogs. We definitely enjoyed the hot tub and fireplace.

Left on 08/20/2009 for a stay in August 2009
Really tacky looking decor. Would the owner consider some inexpensive steps in making the space look a bit more modern and not so clownish? Even rearranging the furniture to face the windows would help, killing the red everything, eliminating the hideous mismatched patterns in the bathroom and cleaning the chairs near the creek bed would be a great start. Buying a more modern TV would also help and if they want to use some Mexican art to create a theme decor, do it, but eliminate the tacky mismatched stuff, and bring in some neutrals. The hot tub, creek and trees were fabulous!

This is a great little place. Inside it's not anything super fancy but very clean and comfortable with all the kitchen supplies you could need. Large windows look out at the redwoods. In the morning lying in bed, looking out I really felt like I was in the middle of the forest. Great hot tub and grill on the deck. Great yard - we wished we'd brought a croquet set or a frisbee. The creek had very low water due to drought but we still enjoyed wading to the swimming hole. Perhaps because we stayed on a Sunday and Monday we only saw ONE other person in the creek! What a treat. There are other houses very close and a road but the way the house is angled and situated it still felt very private and secluded. It's also very close to the Russian River and the coast but we never bothered to venture out!
