AtlantaNice place, nice trip
Left on 05/20/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We spent 3 nights while visiting the Sonoma County Wine country. The residence was clean, well stocked and inviting. The kitchen had the pots and pans needed to prepare gourmet meals to match our wine purchases. The beds were comfortable and clean. The water pressure and hot water were marvelous. We enjoyed our day trips to the wineries and our nights nesting in the house or on the deck. We wlso really enjoyed the bird watching as we saw so many different birds than we see on the east coast. I also spotted a large bird that I would like to believe was an eagle.
I highly recommend this location for comfortable living on the Russian River.Response from Russian River Getaways - 05/22/2013

Oakland, CAToo many rules and threats
Left on 07/12/2012 for a stay in July 2012
The house itself was fine. But the house rules were out of control. Take out the trash, do the dishes, don't do this, don't do that. The tone was almost hostile and was definitely threatening: If you leave something behind at the house, we will charge you $20, If your dog barks too much, we will charge you $1,000 (really!). There were so many other threats that we felt obligated to go through the house and write down all the things that were wrong so we wouldn't get charged (sand in the hot tub, towel rack in the bathroom pulling away from the wall, poorly cleaned areas of the house, for example).
All in all, my family didn't feel welcomed by the owners of the house and would not stay there again.

It's unfortunate that the rules that come with renting a vacation home are so offensive to you. We make rules based on many years of experience in this business of renting vacation homes, with a goal of creating a good experience for all guests. Many of the rules now also come from the county ordinance that governs vacation rentals, including not letting dogs bark excessively. The penalty is meant as a deterrent, so that people understand how serious this particular issue is for a vacation rental. We go out of our way to make the rules clear and concise, in a friendly manner, without hostility, so I'm surprised you've interpreted our statement of our expectations in this way. Most guests appreciate being let know up front what to expect. Contracts tend to cover the most extreme situations and generally don't come into play when people act respectfully and with common sense. Our contract protects us and our homeowners from the relatively rare situations where guests do not employ these traits. -Rachel, general manager

SF Bay AreaComfortable house with a great deck
Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We had a terrific time--the deck on this house is huge, and we spent most afternoons on the deck while our teenagers went down to the dock, walked to town, or just explored. Located on a quiet side street, the house is surprisingly private for one with so many other houses nearby. My only suggestion for improvement would be to trim the trees--while the property is technically riverfront, there is really only a glimpse of the river, not really a view, and trimming the trees would make a big difference.

Very comfortable and great facilities. Fantastic deck and hot tub. I knocked off 1 star because it was advertised as having canoes/kayaks, but actually had neither (canoe had no paddles) and the dock was not in service. Has fireplace, but the operation of that fireplace is confounding and we couldn't get it working. Could the owners please put in an instruction manual about the fireplace? Finally, the lights are nice that they have dimmers, but are also confusing about how to make them function--instructions here would be useful, too. Would definitely return!

We love that these guests enjoyed this home and surrounding area. We say as often as possible on our website and booking agents tell people that docks and boats are usually taken out by mid-September (when the river level changes), so this should not have been a surprise to these folks. We wish they had contacted about the operation of the fireplace and lights. We could have helped with that, and they would not have had to suffer. We will review the house instructions and see what needs to be added. -rkl
We now have instructions for the fireplace and the dimmer light switches in the house binder. -Rachel, general manager -
GREAT PLACE!
Ft.LauderdaleThis was the perfect house on the river for the 4 of us!
Left on 08/17/2011 for a stay in August 2011
The four of us really enjoyed the house inside and out. I would love to stay again next year for Lazy Bear weekend. The kayak did not have a working key to unlock the kayak, but because their was a canoe that was also there it was not a worry. Would love to secure the house for rental next august.

We're so glad these folks loved this house so much. We checked the keys and they are where they're supposed to be and working, so we're not sure what happened here. We encourage guests to call us when they have a problem, so that we can fix it for them! -rkl

Guernewood Landing is a nice house, in a very shady and woodsy section of the Russian River about a mile outside of the main town of Guerneville. The house was well stocked, and we were pretty comfortable overall. During the day, the temperature was at least 10 degrees cooler than the main town area, and we were often surprised when we ventured into town and found that it was still very light and very warm outside. There were lots of games and the hot tub was great to have. Our children spent most of their time down on the river canoeing and swimming.

I was skeptical because this was my first time renting a vacation home. But I had the best experience and I'd absolutely come back again. The keyless entry check-in was amazing. Just treat it like your own home and clean it when you leave and you are good. The deck has spectacular view of the river and tall and dense oak tree behind the river.

San DiegoComfortable house, great location.
Left on 07/30/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We had a wonderful stay at Gurnewood Landing recently. The home is clean, comfortable and the location was perfect. The only complaint we had was that there were lots of ants in the home. However, the location and charm of the home more than made up for this issue.
I do take some issue with Russian River Getaways check in policy. We were traveling with toddlers and an infant and were told rather bluntly that we could not check in early, even though no one had been in the home for several days. So, we had to wait until the 3:00 check in time. We were essentially told that there are no exceptions to this rule. I would have liked some leniency given the property's unoccupied status.
We still had a great vacation and enjoyed the house.Response from Russian River Getaways - 07/30/2010

The ants are gone and we apologize for their invasion. As for early check-in, I'm sure that staff explained that this home has keyless entry and the code is not effective until 3 p.m. In general, early check-ins are not possible and we are very clear about that upfront.

Left on 09/24/2009 for a stay in September 2009
First and foremost, we received excellent service from Russian River Getaways. Booking was easy and the staff was very helpful while we were there. If you have any questions about the local area, or need something while you are there, the staff always seemed ready to help.
Without question, the best feature of the house was the deck (which was almost as big as the house itself). If you enjoy being outdoors, relaxing under the trees in a hot tub, then you will love this house. We spent most of our time this way.
The house isn't a 5-star hotel, with plush furniture and all that, but it is a comfortable home that makes a great base for exploring both the coast and the Russian River area. We certainly enjoyed it and would be very happy to rent this home again. -

The house was very comfortable and the kitchen had modern appliances. The
hot tub on a very spacious deck was well maintained and clean. The dock and
the stairs to it were in good condition. We spent many hours in the kayak on
the river which was high. -

Hello, we're baffled by this review. There is and was no problem with any of the appliances at this house and we did not receive any complaints during this guest's stay. The website clearly states that the dock is seasonal. The exact timeframe for docks does vary from house to house so we expect folks will ask if they want to be sure a dock will be in. None of our docks can be installed in April and generally the river is not safe for boating nor warm enough for swimming until May.

Talk to Art! He's wonderful!
My old college friends and I reconnected in this great small home with
a fantastically large deck! With an open space layout, you can be in
the spa, yet still in conversation with those inside cooking, watching
tv, or relaxing in the home. It's right on the river and surrounded by
trees giving you the privacy you need for a private and secluded
retreat. We can't wait to come back! -

Parker ColoradoCool but sunny stay on the Russian Rive
Left on 02/04/2009 for a stay in January 2009
For our vacation we wanted to be close to Sonoma county wine country. This property fit the bill perfectly. Guernewood Landing is right on the Russian River. The backyard steps go right down into the river. Since it was winter the floating dock had been pulled out of the water and stored. We spent 3 nights here. All evenings were cold (20-30 degrees) and every day was sunny and cool (40-50 degrees). This property has an amazing deck facing the river. We spent a lot of time just relaxing out there. With the sun shining and no wind it was warm enough to leave the jacket inside. After the sun dropped behind the hills the hot tub kept us warm...
As for the home, it was just right for two couples. If you have more than 4 then someone gets to sleep on the couch or the floor. The bedrooms were well furnished and the beds very comfortable. The two bathrooms were fine.
The kitchen living area was nicely appointed and comfortable. We used the kitchen for breakfasts and 2 dinners. For the most all the tools, pots, and pans you need to prepare meals are provided. There is a grocery store only 5 mins away so food shopping was a breeze.
One day we headed over to Healdsburgs and stopped by 5 wineries. The country drive is beautiful with all the green hillsides covered in vine rows. The next day we spent the day in Armstrong Redwoods State Park. This is an amazing park shouldn't be missed.
From all we have heard we had unusually good weather. Typically, January is overcast and rainy most of the time. So be prepared for that kind of weather. Because it was totally off season there were no crowds anywhere. I've heard it gets much busier during the summer.
