This place was fantastic!
- Dog friendly
- You are in the trees
- Interesting design with a balcony on each floor
- Outdoor shower. This was a must to have since the dog got into the river and needed a shower.
- Close to Bodega Bay, wineries, and forests.
- Hot water is immediate
- Outdoor shower needs a little bit more water pressure or at least detachable head
- Downstairs bathroom has a window in the door
- Shower in bathroom is a bit cramp and unwieldly due to odd shower curtain hanging design. Water will eventually get out
- No door/separation between the downstairs bedroom and the upstairs
- Access to the river is on the same driveway as the property. This causes some unwanted noise at night when people want to visit the river. Read more

We just spent a lovely four days at Mom's Beach House. You could not find a more picturesque spot on the Russian River! Full of light and up amongst the trees, this well-maintained cottage is just the right size for a get-away for a few days. Nestled in the Russian River Valley area of the Sonoma wine district, this cottage is near to all kinds of interesting spots. Kayak the river; hike the nearby armstrong Redwoods State park; or visit the many vineyards nestled among the hills and valleys of this amazing part of California. The cottage is clean and well-equipped and the bed is especially comfortable. Enjoy! Read more

Russian River Getaways does a wonderful job managing their properties and their staff are very easy to work with. We found Mom's Beach House to be a lovely home. Our kids loved the ping pong table and the proximity to the river. The cottage is situated on Mother's Beach, which is a public beach access. The beach area was loud and crazy and completely packed on the 4th of July, but then back to a reasonably normal and relaxing vibe on the 5th and the rest of the weekend. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the hot tub as it was dirty and we called the spa maintenance person but he didn't show up, which could have been because of the holiday weekend. The weather was so hot anyways that we probably weren't going to use the hot tub. But, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the house was a great spot to spend the weekend. Read more

This simple, beautiful cabin right on the river has a great newly-update but still classic feel. It's nestled on all sides by giant redwoods, so when you're on the decks or in the hot tub you feel like you're in the middle of the forest.
The hosts were very accommodating, with a lots of river toys like kayaks ready to use and a whole book on recommended activities in the area. And to cap it off, having our dogs there to enjoy the river with us made it super easy.
Great cozy house and killer location

My family of 4 loved Mom beach house. It was bright and airy with a view of the fairly private beach with comfortable decks to enjoy the view. Very peaceful and cozy. It is small but the 2 floors make for a good separation. We really enjoyed the ping pong table, the kayaks, the hot tub, outdoor shower and the guitar! Highly recommend for small families or couples. Above all of that our favorite was the old growth redwoods that surround the home. Also, great design work using the old doors in the bathroom downstairs.
The house is up a bunch of steps and it feels like you are in a tree house, so if that bothers you, look elsewhere. My only other comment is that the owners have done a nice job of coordinating the tv/stereo with fancy universal remote . . however my wife and kids had trouble with it. I'm a techy guy and got it all working. But I imagine some might have trouble. I think it should be simplified some other way. But it is real nice to have big speakers, netflix and cable! Great house Mom! Thanks for opening your house to us.

We enjoyed staying at Mom's Beach house. It's like being in a tree house
because the top floor is in the trees. The location on the river was
nice. Not to crowded and safe for the kids to swim and kayak. We live locally and decided to vacation at the Russian River because I couldn't get away from my business. It was originally a compromise but we ended
up enjoying so much that is may become a tradition.

We felt lucky to find this cottage at the last minute after our other accommodations were canceled at the last minute. We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted a romantic spot. Mom's Beach House cottage fit the bill. It is adorable and the decor equally so. We loved the cozy gas stove in the living room which simply goes on with a thermostat and the several skylights make the room sunny and warm during the day. The bathroom is absolutely my favorite room in the cottage, with an antique oval windowed door. The orchid colored walls and white trim felt so restful, making bathing in the charming claw foot tub a relaxing experience indeed. Another beautiful antique door with mirrored panes lead conveniently to a laundry closet. The bedroom is sweet with a very comfortable bed. The location is great. It has a front deck that looks over the river through the trees and a 2 min walk to the beach. This said, there were a few things we found disappointing that I wanted to mention with hopes of being helpful: The house behind the cottage has a huge yard where the neighbor has an outdoor workshop/junkyard which is well lit. The neighbor was working there with machinery and noisy equipment into the night. Fortunately, it's the cottage's back upper deck that overlooks this yard, so you forget it's there. The decks and the hot tub lid were dirty and unswept, and the interior of the house smelled rather strongly of septic. The smell cleared up for the most part with opened windows, but lingered just a bit the entire time we were there. All this said, we still enjoyed our stay and would like to go back with our daughter who is 15, but the rules only allow 2 children under age 12. I don't understand the reason for this restriction. When I asked the management co. why, they gave the septic system as the reason. Do 15 yr olds use the bathroom more than 12 yr olds? It seems an arbitrary rule. Perhaps all the above issues were why the cottage was available with such short notice? Read more
We're glad you liked this home so well, and that the negatives did not count too heavily against your enjoyment. We're so sorry about the smell and the neighbors. There's nothing we can do about the neighbors, unfortunately, so it's good that they're on the other side of the house from where the windows and decks face. The smell we can do something with. The septic needed to be pumped; that's being taken care of now. The decks in this area are always going to have redwood and other tree debris covering them; this is not really the same as "dirty." The cleaners clean them, but the debris just keeps coming. The difference between under 12 and 15 years old is that under 12 is still kid sized, for the most part, and a 15 year old is grown up sized. This is a small house, with a septic appropriately sized for two grown-ups. Occasional younger children is all it can handle. -rkl

Wonerful long weekend getaway at mom's Beach house
Left on 09/14/2011 for a stay in September 2011 | Jack C.
We decided to get away from the east bay for the labor day weekend and sped a few days at mom's Beach house. We'd see the house when visiting Mother's Beach previously so we looked it up and discovered that it was quaint little river house that was also pet-friendly --a big plus as we have a little furry friend who likes to travel with us.
The house is very cute, and is obviously decorated to the owner's tastes. For a one bedroom there is plenty of space with the bedroom and bathroom being downstairs and the living space upstairs. A single family with 2 small children and a dog could easily spend a comfortable week in this house with the way the space is set up.
It's definitly on the rustic side, being out in the woods on the edge of the river this is to be expected. When we first arrived I was mildly dismayed by how dirty the front porch and the 2 decks seemed to be, so I grabbed a broom and went to work sweeping all of the debris from the trees from the. After about 3 hours I realized that someone probably had already done this, as the decks were beginning to look "dirty" again...at that point I let it go.
The little Jacuzzi and BBQ on the kitchen deck were perfect, we spent some time every night enjoying the tub, and grilled out one of the nights as well.
Mothers Beach is a great little river spot that is also pet-friendly and very relaxing. The currents arent too strong and I would be comfortable spending the day there with children.
Not far up the road is the Russian River Pub, a great spot to go have a few beers and some excellent pub food if you're not feeling like cooking, there are also many wineries a short drive away (Korble is about 5 minutes up the road, offers free tastings, and has a really nice deli and patio area to lounge about and sip some beverages and have a snack.)
We love mom's Beach House very much, and plan to make it a regular destination as long as out little family will fit comfortably.
Oh, and we got engaged there!

We had such a great time, the house was cozy and clean. My only conern was there was no where for us to take the trash as the trash cans on the property were full when we arrived so we had to bring our trash to another location. otherwise the house was fully equipped perfect size for my daughter and I and our dog loved the river. I would stay here again next year but stay during the week. The weekend was very busy at the river and too many complainers and too many drunk people on the river Sat and Sun. During the week however it was pure paradise. We will be back next year.
Dreamy Cabin on the River

This is the most charming, adorable cabin right on the river. It had all kinds of nice touches that made us feel at home - a complimentary bottle of wine, several books and magazines, games, cable TV, WiFi, an acoustic guitar, kayaks, and even yoga mats.
We had our daughter, her friend, and our two dogs along, so the beach was a great feature. Mornings and evenings we had the beach all to ourselves; the dogs loved swimming and running around. During the afternoon the beach got busy, and then in the evening it was quiet again. It was great to be able to take the kayaks right down to the water whenever we wanted to.
We loved the location. We got there in just a little over an hour from the east bay. The house is off the main road, so there's no traffic noise, and it's less than 10 minutes from Guerneville, 5 minutes from Forestville, and there is a market a short walk across the road that had everything we forgot at home and a good cup of coffee in the morning. Plus, it's only 5 minutes from some amazing wineries.
The king-size bed was incredibly comfortable. The girls slept on the queen-size pull-out couch, which was also surprisingly comfy - no bar under your back. The couch seemed new, and I noticed in the Guest Comments book that there are new owners, so it appears that they've been making some updates.
We heard some barking and occasional use of a power tool in the neighborhood as mentioned in earlier reviews, but nothing excessive. You can see the neighbor's house from the front porch, but we spent our time inside the house and on the back porch overlooking the river, where you can't see any other houses, just the river and woods.
In short, this is an absolutely dreamy cabin in a beautiful spot. My husband and I loved sitting in the hot tub looking up at the beautiful towering redwood trees and stars while the girls entertained themselves inside. We will definitely be back!

Mom's Beach House was a tiny respite home away from home experience for me. I enjoyed the quiet (except for some neighbor basketball and power tools), the redwoods, spectacular river view, the hottub and simple but cozy furnishings. The house inspires me to clear clutter and find space in the smallest of places.
I almost bought the place, as it was for sale!
My only complaint was that it was cold going to the bathroom in the night, as the heater is only on a timer and the tile floor is chilly.
The weather was relatively warm for January and sunny the whole time, as well as the river level was low, so I enjoyed walking the beach and watching the water. Stars at night were wonderful.

we enjoyed moms beach house. it was cozy and had everything we needed. the location was great, but because of this the beach was very crowded all the time. some people did not follow the leash rule, who had pitt bulls. other than that the actual rental was really nice, we took our small dog. it was a perfect dog friendly vacation, we enjoyed it very much. it was fun to rent a canoe, canoe rentals are just a couple of minutes away by car. moms beach house was a little pricey, but ended up being fun.

While we enjoyed our weekend stay in this darling little house, there were some issues...
First off, WOW! The view from the front deck into the neighbors backyard was a bit scary. They could be on an episode of Hoarders! Aside from that, we were kept awake until 4 in the morning as the "hoarders" hosted a high school graduation party, alcohol included. It was hard to miss the beer pong set up they had going. This was a bit disturbing.
Secondly, the house could be a bit more stocked. We spent the previous weekend in a vacation rental that was so stocked, it made our house look empty (& trust me, it's not)! This house was on the opposite side of that spectrum. Sparse kitchen equipment. Unsanitary & OLD cutting board. No blowdryer. Isn't this place called Mom's Beach House? Where were the beach towels? Also, the furniture (sofa) and floor matts in the bathroom were dirty...so I'm not sure where the $80 cleaning bill comes into play because it wasn't spent here!
Last but not least, while it was very convenient that the path to the beach was right next door, it was also a negative. This beach is obviously a "young" locals hang out. Lots of dogs off leashes (we are not dog haters, we have a German Shepherd) one standard weber BBQ pit and a lot of "F-words" being used. I guess nobody abides by the sign at the start of the path regarding dogs and BBQ's. Oh yeah, and the hoarder neighbor needs to learn to actually "pick up" his off the leash dog's poop when he walks them on the beach and not just cover the poop up with sand/rock...won't be pretty when the little ones begin digging!
As cute as this place was...too pricey, too noisy, too crowded (beach) & just not the "romantic spot" it's advertised to be. I did not recommend this place to the friends that asked about our "romantic weekend in the darling house on the river". Also, it's a shame to say that the "hoarders" are probably preventing this house from actually selling, as is the steep price.

Quaint little cottage
Left on 04/23/2010 for a stay in April 2010 | Amy
We stayed at this cottage over spring break. We actually thought it was going to be more private then it was. The neighbor in the front of the rental worked in his backyard the entire time we were there (8am-10pm every day), which happened to basically be in the front yard of this property. He used a lot of power tools and equipment and was very disruptive. He also had 4+ dogs that barked often, everytime we stepped outside, and through the night.
Lots of random people hang out at that public access/river entrance. Maybe because it was spring break. There were kids drinking down there and being loud which contributed to our experience.
A couple of things with the house. The heater in the bedroom clicks loudly for several minutes each time it goes on and off. It was cold enough to need it throughout the night and it was too loud to sleep through. We had ants in the house too. All of the blankets in the closet had clearly been used recently by a dog with lots of hair and smelly!
We ended up leaving a day early because our son was sick. It was probably for the best since we weren't sleeping that well there.
Could have used a town map. We didn't know where the nearest grocery store was, or which way to go!
Other than those things, we liked the setting and the house. Overall, it would probably have been a better summer rental than spring. The river was so high there was no way that we could have gone in with the boats.

Extremely cozy place with great views of the river. Loved the set-up and the hot tub on the deck. A great place to relax if you want to get away!
Dislike the amount of noise. The neighbor in the back appears to have what is a wood shop on his property. Chain saws and wood machines don't make for the most relaxing sounds, especially when they continue to go on. Read more
Thanks for the feedback. This home rents constantly and this is the first report we've had of chain saws and wood machines. So we hope this was just a project by the neighbor and that's is over.

We were told if we bought the travel insurance we would get a refund if we had to cancel the trip, NO MATTER WHAT REASON. We tried to cancel over a month before the trip and were told by CSA that we needed a doctor's excuse to get our money back. Rather than throw over $500 away, we had to miss the family reunion and used the house for the weekend. Cute house, had ants. Nice view of the neighbor's junky back yard from one of the decks. Would not go again due to the fact that they take your money and you can't cancel unless you have a medical issue. Read more
No one told this guest they could cancel for any reason. We tell everyone the same thing: the trip cancellation insurance covers certain reasons for cancellation like illness, death in the family, loss of job, and they get a flyer ahead of time that outlines those reasons, along with a policy that explains in detail. We highly recommend trip cancellation insurance as it covers most of the reasons for cancellation and our cancellation policy is clear: no refund unless we re-book. We're sorry this guest ended up with a conflict in engagements, but we are very, very careful to explain the insurance limits to everyone who purchases the insurance.

Our stay was from Sept. 21 through the 23rd. We took ourselves and three dogs for the trip. It was quite warm in the day but cooled off quickly. It got rather chilly in the house the first night. It was a lot warmer the next two nights as we shut the place down earlier.
The location was the finest feature of the house. Completely surrounded by redwoods and ivy, with a jet black night sky in which the Milky Way was readily visible. There were an awful lot of barking dogs in the area, many of whom were hostile. The first night there were people (locals, I imagine) using power tools and it was quite noisy. Due to the time of year, the Russian River was very low, about 30 inches maximum in our neighborhood. That was deep enough for our dogs to swim,, which was important for us.
The kitchen was well supplied with dishes and utensils. Having a washer-dryer combo was also a plus, although the water filled very slowly. The spa was very relaxing.
There were a few restaurants close to the house. Eating well was not a problem. Since we had dogs in a strange (for them)location where we could not leave them alone, we were not able to visit many area attractions. We took many still photographs and a few digital videos.
The area was remarkably insect-free. Tree frogs chirped well into the night.

My fiance and I stayed at Mom's Beach House with our dog for labor day weekend. Everything was wonderful and house was clean and comfortable and so close to a great beach! We spent the mornings swimming with our dog (officially your dog has to be on a leash, but ours and others we saw were enjoying the beach off-leash) and the afternoons we all went wine tasting. We had a list of the top 10 dog friendly wineries from the internet and went to about 5 of them. Each night we drank wine and went in the hot tub!
Our only complaints were that when we arrived, we discovered that we were given the wrong entry code to the house. Thankfully, the office was open and the woman I spoke to called someone who had the correct number, then called me back with it a few minutes later. Also, we thought that for 3 nights, $740 (total with tax and cleaning) was a bit high, especially because we have since booked 6 nights at a luxury all inclusive resort in Cancun for $2100 with flights.

We have stayed here before. I believe it was when Mom's first became a rental.
We like the size of the space and enjoy that it is rustic yet has some modern
touches, but felt that several key elements were missing. It is hard to help
keep the place clean without the minimum amenities like a vaccuum cleaner,
broom or something to scrub the pots and pans before placing in the
dishwasher. How about a coffee grinder! The IKEA couch has deflated and
actually hurts to sit on it now. We are average size people and it was hard to
find comfortable seating for two. Unfortunately, the cleaning crew is "getting
over" on you and the owners. We expect cobwebs and dust from the forest, but
not dust bunnies and crumbs in the windows and on the floors. The bed is
really comfortable, but it is time for new shower curtains.

The house was right next to the river, just a few short steps away. The view from the balcony was beautiful. I liked that this house was dog friendly and came equipped with dog bowls already on site. The only amenity that they didn't have was a closet or somewhere to hang your clothes. I brought a few dresses and had no where to hang them. Overall, I highly recommend this house. Its a small house with just enough room for a couple. My favorite amenity was the hot tub, what a treat to soak in a tub under a bunch of Redwoods.

This place was a wonderful little getaway. The location is perfect, a short walk to the water, with awesome river views and, and it had a totally cute layout. It was also very peaceful, and dog-friendly, which is AWESOME.
One HUGE minus: Within 2-minutes of arriving, my accident-prone dog got stung by a bee and had a severe allergic reaction. The beach house was awesome enough to have the phone number for the emergency vet in their information book, but there was not a writing utensil in the place to be found! I had no way of writing down the directions to the vet, and I was not from the area (and was pretty freaked at the sight of my dog's head growing exponentially by the second)--It would be fabulous if the property management folks could keep this in mind for the future guests.
Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this place freely!

Our stay at mom's beach cottage was lovely.
We enjoyed the location by the river in redwoods and the tiny size and
airiness of the cottage was perfect-
with the windows opening up to the river, hard wood floors, the small decks
and the non-clutter of the cottage furnishings.
Just wanted to let you know I few things we found at the house during our
stay that you should be aware of....
and that we made the cleaning staff aware of that was lacking. There was
only a squirt of dishwashing detergent left in the bottle and no laundry
detergent at all and there were no garbage bags..... these things were listed
as things that would be in the house.
The pots and pans in the house are pretty much unusable- as they have
cooked-on/burned things in the bottom,
and the non-stick pan is so scratched it should not be used once the teflon
is damaged to that extent.
We used to microwave and grill only- which worked for our needs after
attempting to find a useful pot or pan.
There no recycle garbage bin for the house which is disappointing as it is a
program available and necessary given environmental needs and the beauty
of the Russian River area.
Upon our arrival- on TUESDAY -the black garbage can was completely full.
Because we were there on a thursday night, we did and had to take out the
garbage, which is a common thing and understandably easy for you
and the owner, but as a guest- a paying guest- to take out our garbage is
one thing - to roll the weekend tenant/guests full garbage can to the curb
is another. A neighbor or someone also came to water the plants outside
while we were staying there but at the river.....we know this because they
left the hose running in the driveway and blocking the stairway instead of
putting the hose away.....a hazard and alarming to not be made aware of
someone stopping by...and that the neighborhood has loads of dogs, all
barking dogs at times. I thought I would bring these details that
impacted our stay to your attention.
Cozy, romantic cottage!

This cozy little cottage was perfect for our first anniversary and the dogs loved it, too! The dog run was handy for easier clean up. The beach is easy access down a path, and very dog friendly. Although the cottage itself isn't entirely secluded, it sure felt that way as it is nestled in among a beautiful redwood grove. Oh, and having a hot tub on a private deck was amazing! Thanks for a great time!

Did not enjoy Mom's Beach House
Left on 05/07/2009 for a stay in April 2009 | 1st time Russian River vacationer
We only stayed at this house for a few hours and requested to be
moved. Russian River Getaways, specifically Dee (I hope I'm spelling
her name correctly), was very helpful in helping us move to more
Honestly, the house was not very comfortable to stay in. From the
moment we walked in there was a bad odor emitting from the first
floor where the single bedroom and bathroom are located. Also,
there's not much privacy because the house did not have blinds. The
location also had a lot of public traffic and onlookers, so it didn't feel
very safe. Plus, the entrance on the first floor was muddy. I do not
recommend this home. Read more
A baffling review as this is one of our most popular small homes; see the other reviews for the typical reaction to this cabin. These guests were a young couple, the wife pregnant. She kept insisting there was a terrible odor, but neither her husband nor our services manager could detect it. There are no blinds because the windows look out on forest where there are no homes. This home is very privately situated. The only close homes are behind it. It's a shame they didn't mention the home they actually stayed in.

We didn't want to leave!

Wish we had more time to stay longer. We'll definitely be back! The hot tub was amazing and the river/beach was just a short path away. You could actually look out onto the river from one of the decks. The keyless entry and enclosed dog run was a nice touch as well. Not too far from Guernville, the Ocean, or numerous vineyards. Loved it! Thanks for all the comforts of home and then some!
