We really enjoyed our stay at Northern Exposure. The house is very homey and cozy. Hot tub and deck were great. Upstairs was warm and sunny, downstairs was cooler and darker - people had different sleeping preferences so it worked out very well.
Only thing I would say was that the beach was a little disappointing - there was broken glass in multiple places. -

We stayed at this house a couple years ago around the same time (Mid Oct) and the weather was gorgeous, and this time we had a wonderful weather and wonderful time again. It was our adult daughter's birthday, and the youngsters stayed downstairs and we the parents a grandparent stayed upstairs. It worked out perfectly. The yound and the young at heart both enjoyed the canoe rides, hammock, hot tub, and outings to Tamale's Bay Oyster Co. for lunch and brought back lots of oysters for BBQ in the evening.
Despite some minor items (lack of toilet paper, broken lights at the top of the stairs), there was no major issues.Response from Russian River Getaways - 10/18/2012

We provide three rolls of toilet paper per bathroom (this is standard in the industry) - stated in booking policies. If there was not this much in the house, we apologize for the error. For this and the lights, if you call us, we will fix the problems. -Rachel, general manager

I have rented 4 different houses over the past few years and this by far was the best layout. Every room is big, clean and has everything we needed without being cluttered. The upstairs/downstairs kitchens worked beautifully, especially in the mornings when everyone rises at different times. We had 5 kids aged 8 and under and having the beach so close was all they needed. We used the canoes, kayaks, and just about everything else. If I had to find a flaw, it would be that the back area is not cleared and therefore the kids couldn't play out there. Also, a garbage disposal in the kitchen upstairs would be nice. But I am being picky. It was fantastic.

We rented Northern exposure along with the house next door (Jade) and overall really enjoyed our experience. The beach access can't be beat and the houses are on a quiet road where kids can ride their bike in relative peace (a treat for city kids!) The house was a little musty when we arrived, but nothing a few hours with open windows couldn't take care of. We'd rent again, without hesitation!

Our group thoroughly enjoyed the cozy, homey feel of this cabin. It was warm and welcoming all the way around and we were able to host a dinner party with our friends who were renting the cabin next door, Jade House, where everyone had a place to sit and we were all comfortable. I'd say this was our best experience yet in the 4 years that we've been renting from RR Getaways - and we always have had great experiences.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas/Hannukah on the River. The house is great- beautifully decorated, nicely equipped with all you need in the kitchen, lovely location, wonderful hot tub. We had a great time! The only negative was the fold-out sofa bed. Definitely don't count that as a sleeping space. Otherwise, it accommodated all 12 of us beautifully.

Glad you had a great time on your holiday. The sofabed is noted on the website as one of the sleeping spaces, so I'm not sure what the problem is. -rkl

We had 12 from 4 families. The place was well set up to accommodate us as we had plenty of beds, cooking room, and recreational facilities for all. Our only problem was that the path for river access from the house to the river was impassable because it was overgrown,

So glad these folks liked the house so much. There is no path from the house and the yard is wild, and we state this on the website. The path to the beach runs next to the house. However, there was an outdated photo showing the yard more manicured and what looks like a path, which has been removed. -rkl

The Rrgetaways operates with an excellent and helpful office staff. The house was vell equipped, upstairs a/C was priceless during a heat wave, the kitchen above expectations for a rental, the BBQ and hot tub were perfectly maintained, the beds were all (except the convertible) of very good quality. The shower heads need to be changed to something that actually sprays toward your body. The backyard has not been attended to this season, so it's wildly overgrown. The street parking is a problem as in front of the garage there is only one spot (not 2 as they advertize, unless you drive Smart Cars). The beach access is by the house and during weekends is a mob that invades the beach, that is parially stones (not pebbles) and dust. The water of the Russian River collects all the farm drainage from the surrounding areas with a subsequent aroma of blended manure and fertilizers. The gorgious eucaliptus trees around do their best to neutralize this smell. The streets leading to the house are narrow and breakneck.
The house is part of the Drake Beach association that is overrun by local residents and tourist during weekends and holidays to vacation on a section of the river that is totally over rated. Local residents also keep their loud dogs outside until late in the night and light sleepers beware.Response from Russian River Getaways - 09/21/2011
Manager
Sounds like these folks enjoyed the house a lot. This house is in a neighborhood, like all riverfront homes in this area, so there is normal neighborhood activity. Most of the time, it's pretty quiet, but the beach is busy during the summer, especially on week-ends, and is part gravel and part sand, but we take exception to the description of the water and air quality. There's never been any smell (and we have staff that frequent this beach) and the water quality is regularly tested to make sure there's not too much of anything (and certainly not any more than in any other river). The roads to this neighborhood are 2 lanes, but not particularly narrow or curvy. The backyard is wild, and it says so on the website. There was an outdated photo that showed it more manicured, which has been removed. The shower head has been replaced. -rkl

We liked the house because it served well for the people we had coming and those who needed their own room plus those who would share. It would be nice to fix the door between the shower and the bathroom, it did not latch so there was quite a gap between the two when it was closed. The parking turned out to be a problem over the weekend in front, no parking signs may deter others from parking there, our neighbors have those signs, I would suggest getting some. There were a few crushed spiders on the wall of the shower that were not cleaned up prior to our arrival, otherwise the house was clean. My bed was comfortable, but I did not hear any other positive feedback from our guests about the beds all week. A TV in the master bedroom was missed. I would clear a path to the beach from the yard, it would be nice to have direct access. Luckily we are right next to the path, so we could use that to get down to the water. The river was very pretty and the canoes were great to use. The living room couch was comfortable. The keyless entry was a very nice feature. The hot tub was fun.
Response from Russian River Getaways - 10/16/2010
Manager
Just a few notes. Parking here is restricted to four cars and those parking spaces (two on the street, two on the side of the house) are generally available. Occasionally other people do use the street parking places; it is a public street and those "no parking" signs are wishful thinking.
The beds at this home are all very comfortable: three have new mattresses and the other mattresses are a few years old, but of top quality. The televisions are listed in the property description; there is none in the master bedroom. The access path could hardly be more convenient; it is directly beside the house. Clearing brush in front of the house would just reduce the privacy with little added convenience.
We do appreciate the feedback. -

Very nice accommodation. I have been bringing my family to the Russian River for 50+ years. This year's location was so convenient to the river itself and provided us with all the comforts of home (except a garlic press). The neighbors appeared concerned about who would be occupying the facility since previous tenants were a problem. When they saw we were a family their worries were for naught.

Everything was great. Units were very well maintained with large decks, views of the river through the trees. Kitchen well suppiled with essentials. Beds very comfortable, bathrooms/showers totally adequate. Use of kayak and canoe a real plus, and hot tub enjoyed by all. Proximity to Guerneville and armstrong State Park was appreciated. Would definitely recommend to others.

Overall, the stay was wonderful. The house was comfortable and had a nice vibe. We liked the upstairs/downstairs 2 kitchens feature! Jacuzzi was great although not sure about how sanitary??? The Kayak was a hit just a short walk to the river. Kids were happy as well as adults. Ran out of toilet paper, stovetop in kitchen upstairs didn't work properly, could have used a few beach style towels. However, we will all look back on this weekend with fond memories!

Love the location of this home, but its a little bit of a crowded street and can be kinda difficult to park. For the most part the neighborhood is quiet and the people are very nice. The house was a great size for 8 people. The beds are not very comfortable at all. We also had several problems while renting. The hot tub was not hot when we arrived, the heat in the downstairs did not work for our entire stay, the shower downstairs leaked bad when running and the drying machine quit working with all our towels in it. We did receive a refund for one night without a hot tub, the heat was never repaired, instead we were given space heaters and firewood, still kinda cold in January! The shower head was replaced and worked fine the second day. And the dryerr seemed to be working fine when we left.

Unfortunately the heat required more than our handyman could fix; it was fixed later by a heating professional. And the downstairs mattresses, which were the offending uncomfortable mattresses, have all been replaced and so has the dryer. We truly regret all the problems---this is really rare for our homes, but in this instance it seemed that everything that could go wrong did. Normally we have no problems at all! And all these problems have been taken care of. So please come back!

The houses had a great layout for multi-generational familys with two separate flats. The River was a few feet away and the house was well kept in general. Upon arriving to the house, we were not able to enter and had to call the 1-800 number provided on our paperwork. Customer service was prompt and we were able to enter the house within minutes once given an additional code.
While staying at the house, there were a few minor issues. The screen doors were a little hard to operate, the upstairs bathroom had a leaky faucet, and the spa cover was broken. None of these issues affected our fun but needed to be addressed by the maintanence crew. During our visit, we did meet some of the people who maintain the house and all very nice and helpful.
As for the neighborhood, parking can be a bit tight. On a positive note, we really enjoyed the decks and spa. Our group consisted of ages 6 to 65 and we all enjoyed the location and amenities of the house. We would absolutely rent this house in the future.
Thanks! -

The interior of the house was very neatly organized and very clean, well supplied with your everyday supplies. I found the fridge not very clean, however & had some left over items which really should be thrown away or be labeled. The diskwasher was also old, had to figure out how to use it. The first floor was much more updated & very nice & modern. We enjoyed using the canoe & its easy access to the river. We had problems w/ parking initially but once the crowd left, there were plenty of parking spaces.I didn't particularly like the fact that the outside patio on the first & 2nd floor weren't kept clean. We had to clean the tables, dust off the cobwebs and pick up the leaves on the floor. We also had to clean the BBQ grill. We were also disturbed by the loud noise everyday early in the morning through late in the afternoon as they were cutting & trimming the trees. We were not forwarn of this while we checked in but the neighbor did inform us of this the ff. day. It's funny how they have reminders all over the place that they won't tolerate any noises after 11pm. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and plan to come back again perhaps during the off season at another time.We really enjoyed the winery tour & just the time with family.

Accomidations were accurate to its description. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms were clean and usable. Jacuzzi was fabulous as was the deck and location. Neighbors were REALLY nice. Only downsides, the area rugs were a little dirty and the TVs were definitely outdated (tube and not flat screens). Overall, it was a great stay, and I'd definitely stay here again.

The house is ideal...initially, I was concerned about the lack of internal acess between the
upper and lower levels. But the privacy of the back connected decks made it quite
convenient. We used the top level with its eat in kitchen and long rambling kitchen table as
home base. The living area with its wrap around couch and chaise lounge was a delicious
retreat. We had 12 people in total and never felt cramped. Late sleepers will like to take the
double double or single queen rooms (upper and lower respectfully). The access to the
beach is a public access trail that gets little tr affic. Upon arrival, I was worried about noise
of travelers on the adjacent path...but the remoteness of the area allowed little noise.
Neighbors are extremely friendly...walks through the adjoining streets always resulted in us
bringing back loads of fruit - blackberries, cherries, pluots, yellow plum, and apple. We had
enough berry to bake a pie. Parking can be tricky on weekends if you leave the front of
house spaces midday...other homes don no parking signs and I would encourage the
owners to follow suit...otherwise rig up your own with handmade signs and twine strung
beteen two trash bins. If you want to get away from it all...this is your house. Still
reasonable to pop to town or go on a wine tasting excursion. -

Northern Exposure is in a wonderful location - you can easily walk down the path to the neighborhood beach (just past driveway) and enjoy the river. The house is really two units which are not connected - for us this wasn't ideal, we would have preferred one big kitchen and living space with additional sleepin areas, but it would work well for some groups (in-laws?). The house is nicely decorated and the beds were comfy. Bring your must use kitchen items, as much of the kitchen stuff (knives, etc.) is cheap and mis-matched.
