This property is very unique in design and decor with antique furniture and hardware. It is remote and up in the mountains.
The rental company does leave out a key piece of information. There is no cell coverage at the property.
Also, the town of Cazadero is about a 10 min drive down a winding one lane road down the mountain and the nearest Safeway is about 20-30 minutes away in Guerenville. So, I would recommend arriving during daylight and stopping for some groceries before you arrive.
We had to cut our trip short one day because my husband needed to conduct business on a Monday and was not able to because of no cell coverage. I spoke to the owner, Maire, who was very understanding ans said we could work something out. However, after the fact, Russian River Getaways said they would not refund me for the unused night.

This was a great find. The house is unique, in a rustic gothic style up in the mountains of Cazadero. There is great indoor and outdoor spaces. The hot tub was a great way to relax after a day of wine tasting. The kitchen is well-equipped and the outdoor grill worked great.
Although Cazadero is only 20-30 miles from Healdsburg (a great wine-tasting area), it takes over an hour to get there due to winding mountain roads. We didn't mind the drive, but it's an important detail. Also, it's important to shop before you get to the house, as the nearest store is far and expensive. Read more

No matter how you spell it Sanctuaire is really a sanctuary. We went looking for a secluded quiet place to reconnect after a hard few months at a new job. We found all we were looking for and best of all each other! Great dinners in Jenner (River's End) and Guerneville (Garden Grill) (1/2 hour drives) and great lunches by the clean and warm pool. Mornings were spent in the hot tub overlooking the great scenery watching the fog dissipate. We can't wait to return.
Thank you for your kind words about Sanctuaire. We're glad you had a great time both at the house and in the surrounding area, and we hope you'll return sooner rather than later. -Rachel, Russian River Getaways

We loved our stay at Sanctuaire. It was beautiful and restful and felt like we were a million miles away. The directions for the pool were a little confusing..it was uncovered, should we re-cover it each night ? We figured out how to operate the cover using the poles and covered it when we left. The views from each window amazed and the quiet was just what we hoped for. Bring all your supplies, that way you don't have to spend time driving to Cazadero (it takes a little while and the store is limited in selection) Read more
We'll take a look and make sure the instructions for the pool cover are clear, but, generally, when in doubt, cover a pool (unless you're using it, of course). -Rachel, General Manager

Great Location and Hospitality

The house is located near the top of winding moutain road and you get the best sun at this location, which made the pool and hot tub especially fantastic. The home is very private and has a gated entrance. The caretaker house nearby is completely seperate and not at all intrusive. The home owner was very considerate. She made an effort to call the house anytime there was an expected pool service or any work to be done on the acreage so that we would be aware and we were not inconvenienced at all.The house is comfortable and eclectic. The week were there was one of the warmest weather weeks we have ever enjoyed in the area and the upstairs of the house did get quite warm, but cooled down in the evening. The lower level of the house stays very cool and was always comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked as were the linens, towels and other amenities. It is just a short drive into Monte Rio or Guerneville or to the coast and just down the road to the General Store in Cazadero.Overall, the home met our expectations and we had a very good week enjoying spending days around the pool and then on little day trips to nearby areas. We did not have a dog with us, but this house is well suited for a pet.Especially enjoyed the claw foot tub with the windows that open and offer a wonderful view and privacy. We had two children with us and the pool was a wonderful way to entertain them every single day.Thans for a great break from the hustle and bustle in this special sanctuary.
I'm so happy that you came back to Sanctuaire and found it still enjoyable. I hope you'll come back again in the future. -Rachel, general manager

Sanctuaire is the rare place where you don't need a car, except to buy wine and groceries. Once there, you have no need to leave, you simply sit, enjoy the views, read your Kindle and before you know it the week is finished!
They have a beautiful pool, a pond teeming with neat creatures to see and plenty of room for my dogs to swim and explore. The grounds are expansive, be sure to bring binoculars for the bird and animal life.
You can spend more than a day simply exploring Sanctuaire's furnishings and decor, Marie has accumulated tasteful little treasures over the years and a new "find" pops up everyday to enjoy.
The location has a feel of isolation, but in a good way; quiet and peaceful, no neighbors within sight, (there is a fenced caretaker's property, but it is not intrusive at all).
Thanks for this lovely review, and we're so glad you enjoyed this amazing property. -general manager

We had a fantastic time at this extraordinary place. It offers a perfect setting for spiritual reflection, relaxation and fun. We especially enjoyed the supreme quiet, pool, hot tub and interesting archetectural features. A cross between gothic castle and church? Would love to know why the two front doors - please advise if possible. We will definitely return!!!
Just want to clarify that the caretakers cottage is not in earshot or view of Sanctuaire; you do pass it as you go down the private driveway. Sanctuaire guests have complete privacy.

Staying at Santuare may have saved my sanity..The house is sooo peaceful and lovingly put togeather... A few days was like a month vacation. Everyone had a great time...the kids in the pool, the dog in the creek, my wife in the clawfoot tub over looking the woods and I on the porch with my guitar... If you have an eclectic taste and want to get SUPER CHILL....This is the place...nothing short of incredible. I will dream of thise four days until I return....THANK YOU for this wonderful hideout!
