Magical retreat with heart and soul in lovely forest
Left on 10/03/2013 for a stay in September 2013 | Pam
We loved this place. My husband and I wanted somewhere special to go for our 20th anniversary, and this place did not disappoint. I appreciated all the thought put into furnishing, designing and building this place, you could tell a lot of love went into it and many good times were had on this property. It feels like you are one with nature the way the french doors open out to beautiful decks, and windows galore ( the lower bathroom with all those windows was incredible). Great kitchen. It is built on a hillside and there are lots of stairs, so it's not exactly wheelchair accessible. The hot tub was nice to soak in, although the cement pad it sat on was not much bigger than the hot tub itself, making it tough to go around it to remove and replace the cover, but being on such a slope I can see how there wasn't much room to expand. The town of Cazadero is small but has a general store and a wonderful bakery. We did a few bike rides in the area that were hilly but scenic. We went to Duncan Mills one night for dinner and Monte Rio for another night, both a 20ish minute drive. Read more
Tuck-It-Inn is one of my favorite places for all the reasons you mention. The hot tub is a little tricky, but it's so amazing when you're out there on that hillside with the stars and trees and wow! We're so glad you enjoyed the house and the area. Please do come back, and thanks for sharing your experience. -Rachel

We had a great vacation beginning at Tuck It Inn which is cozy as well as being ample for a family to relax in. The venue is beautiful and it is close enough to both the redwood forests and the ocean to make it an ideal base for exploring the area. Best moments were on the decks and in the hot tub and just grooving on the scenery. All in all, we were quite impressed and would come back again without a doubt.
A Total Retreat

My wife and two of our close friends rented The Tuck-It-Inn the first week of March. We were looking for a place along the Russian River Road where we could be close to the ocean and within reasonable distance to wine country. We couldn't have chosen a better place for that. At the end of a windy dirt road, and seemingly perched on a cliffside, the Tuck-It-Inn was charming, quiet and a great place to come home to at the end of our touring days. While the location might not be for everyone - those looking for a quiet escape couldn't choose a better location. Everything worked in the home and the kitchen is a real treat. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and it was so nice to come home and light a real wood fire. The instructions that were left by the owners on how to get in, what codes to use and the operations of the home were perfect. We couldn't have selected a better location and are looking forward to our next trip out to stay there again.
A nice, if chilly, little cottage.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at Tuck-it-inn with another couple, and had an altogether good experience.
The cabin has a very nice kitchen, comfortable beds, and a nice split-level layout - the dining room and living room are both very well-arranged. The views from the windows are amazing, and the entire cottage feels very private.
However, it has some problems. We stayed in the winter, and the cottage has very, very poor insulation - many windows are single-paned, and don't even have curtains over them. We left the heater on the entire time we were there, and all our produce we left on the counter still froze overnight. The lower-floor bedroom gets very cold, while the upper-floor one is very warm as all the heat in the house migrates to it.
The cottage would be much improved by an addition of thermal curtains over the many windows all over the house - the majority of them can't be covered at all, and all those wonderful old windows let in a -ton- of cold at night. Also, white curtains would make many of the rooms - which all feel very dim - seem brighter.
Also, all the stairways are very narrow and steep. Takes some getting used too.
So, in short - It's nice, but needs some small improvements, mostly curtains and better lights - then it'd probably be a wonderful little cabin!

Loved the cozy, quiet location, all of the decks, privacy and beauty.
Would go back in a heartbeat.
one inconvenience: 4 adults w/graduate degrees could not get the DVD player to work. We brought 3 Dvd's along hoping to nestle in in the evening and watch a movie. One channel got the sound and another the picture but none got both together. Needs some detailed instructions. Read more
Wonderful that you enjoyed Tuck-Inn so much. It is a great house, perched on the side of the hill. Anyone who is not comfortable with the edge of the cliff parking pads that are so common around here is welcome to park the short distance up the street. -general manager

This unique home gives you the feeling of staying in a treehouse with its multiple levels, loads of windows and porches, and cozy woodsy interior. There are little treasures everywhere you look, whether its one of the many collectibles, family photos or just the amazing views of the treetops. This is a great place to come and relax and enjoy the moment. Read more

The Tuck-It-In is a wonderful cabin the woods of Cazadero, full of character and charm. It was a perfect pick for a week away from the city, off the 'grid' yet still close to society, activities, and good restaurants. The cabin has many nice details and warm/creative touches, and is a fabulous hide-a-way for a couple or 2, or a family. The kitchen is also well-equipped, and the cabin has lots of nice extras - raincoats, umbrellas, flashlights, candles, games, blankets, books, fireplace items, basic toiletries, and pantry needs, etc.
This place is a vacation in itself

While Russian River in winter can be cold, dark and damp (even water logged), this place is pure magic. It is all romantic forest cabin and vacation adventure all at once. And the details in the house clearly speak to love that has been poured into it.

Tuck-It-Inn is a very charming, and well appointed home. It was the perfect place to spend a very rainy weekend with friends and family. It was spacious and comfortable. We will definitely be back.

My husband & I rode our motorcycles from B.C. to California, looking for great biking roads & a relaxed place to stay while exploring the Russian River Valley & Coast. This is the perfect retreat from which to day trip this gorgeous area. Loved spacious master bedroom with French-door deck access & light-filled master bath with nice towels, double sinks & comfortable clawfoot tub. Bedroom woodstove was wonderful as weather was unseasonably cold & wet when we arrived (really thankful for the dry wood & kindling left for starting the fire). Built-in dining-room daybeds perfect for curling up with a good book.Covered outdoor deck has excellent gas BBQ. Kitchen, with terrific old porcelain sinks/drainer, butcher block counters, fabulous commercial Viking gas range & island prep table is a gourmet's delight & very well equipped. Terrific sound system. Loved the ambience; really interesting decor (fascinating old photographs), mood-lighting + task lighting in all rooms, thoughtful touches like candles. Hot tub nicely situated & easy to use (although chemical smell pretty strong). Hillside cabin location excellent for complete privacy but close to amenities. Can walk to both Raymond's Bakery & the cute & (for basics) pretty well-stocked Cazadero General Store (longer walk, but pleasant & great exercise thanks to the cabin's hillside location). My only (minor) criticisms would be to recommend some new bedlinens for the master bed & perhaps an upgraded mattress (although ok & fairly firm, the one at present was a little saggy toward the middle for my taste). Some might object to the muted road noise from the Old Cazadero Highway down below the cabin, but we didn't weren't bothered by it. Overall we loved this place & wished we could have stayed longer!

We enjoyed the home very much. We especially liked the rustic log cabin feel and we felt very homey. The privacy was exceptional as we could see no other residences. The way it was built on a hillside made us feel we were up in the canopy of the trees.
The cabin was well equipped and we experienced no problems, all worked as we were told.
My only suggestion is to supply some type of space heater etc. in the downstairs bathroom area. We were with an older couple who felt the lowerer area was too cold. The upstairs stairs were a little too "rustic" for the seniors. Great time though.

Our group of ladies had a wonderful stay. Since each sleeping area was on a different floor we all felt like we had plenty of privacy when we needed it. The deck with table off the kitchen allowed the cooks to have plenty of room to create while the "eaters," and cleaner uppers chatted at the table. The house was clean and inviting and the area quiet and serene, except for the thunder.
The only glitch was an errant smoke detecter which we finally found hidden on top of some books and removed its old battery. It finally shut-up.
Thank You, again, for a great place to retreat to.

Snow White & the 7 Dwarfs felt present!
Left on 08/12/2009 for a stay in August 2009 | Dotzler Family
Our 4 yr. old daughter thought we were guests' of Snow White and so we went along with it! This house was magical and had all the charm and character we were looking for to make our mountain vacation complete! It almost felt like it was built for us as the 2 twin beds, @ each end of the dining room perfectly spaced our 8 & 12 yr. old boys to eliminate the night time rivalry, the upstairs loft room accommodated our 19 yr. old daughter and the chair & ottoman downstairs fit our 4 yr. old perfectly in a make-shift chaise bed! We loved cooking & even baking cupcakes in the kitchen along with our nightly barbeques! We could have benefitted from a bit better lighting throughout the house, as the evenings made it a challenge to read or work on our laptops but there were times we enjoyed the feeling of darkness too! We are not fireplace people as the smoke bothers us so we couldn't bring in light that way. The parking was a bit challenging upon returning from our daily outings but mainly because our suburban is so grande but we got better at calculating the angles & backinig in on day 3!
The sloped lot prevented us from being able to send our boys out for play and because of that we did feel a little "on top of eachother" at times but we sure enjoyed the privacy and feel of being perched all alone in this darling magical hillside at Snow Whites home! Thank you to the owners for offering it and for doing such a great job in architecture & design in creating a true cabin feel & experience, which was what brought us here in the 1st place! We were very comfortable in your home and have already begun recommending it to all our extended family & friends! Also we really enjoyed the Cazadero Market Grocer down the street and were amazed that they even had cupcake liners and sprinkles on their shelf! They had everything, right down to the rental home videos and loved the local people we chatted with while shopping there too! Hope to be back soon!
