All quiet at the SouthWestern front!

Monte Bacana is a part of a former farmstead, Monte de Santo Antonio de Cima, in the middle of a Nature Reserve (Parque Natural de ...Costa Vicentina) and situated on top of a 106 meter high hill. The ocean view of more than 180 degrees is really stunning, including an unique sight over Sagres and the lighthouse tower at Cape St. Vincent. The holidayhouse is newly build in 2010 conform modern building (and isolation) insights. If necessary, heating is by a very well working woodburner, also acting as an open fire, as well as various electrical heating possibilities (the former farmstaed now produces... its own electricity, and selling it to the national electricity company, EDP). The maximum sleeping capacity is 5 grown-ups and 1 baby, divided over one masterbedroom and a mezzanine with a total floor area of approximately 80 square meters. Monte Bacana has various garden-terraces that are sheltered against the winds. The rest of the former farmstead consists of the new main house where the owner lives, and the old house acting as a barn. The original barns has to be demolished. The total area of the former farmstead is about 35 hectares, on which now some 15 hectares are producing fodder for the horses of a riding stable further away.

Many hikers of the Long Distance Walking route "Via Algarviana" and bikers of the Long Distance Bike route "Ecovia do Algarve" and, of course many surfers, have found Monte Bacana a marvelous restfull place. Also birdwatchers because many migrating birds are to be seen, especially in the autumn. There is a big, not wellknown, pinetree wood nearby and there is still some agriculture going (cattle, cattlefodder), despite the Nature Reserve. Monte Bacana has 20 completely different (!) beaches in a radius of 20 kms! Most of these beaches are famous for various surf possibilities, bathing, sportsfishing and naturism. Many outdoor sports are available nearby, from kite-surfing and parapente gliding, over landsailing (blowkarting) and horseriding, to quiet nature walking and watching dolphins at high sea. The region is also known for its special dishes, like "percebes" (goosebarnacles), and wild boar, and "nesperas" (lumquat), beside all sorts of fresh fish. The nearest villages for shopping and banking are Sagres and Vila do Bispo. Sagres is very well known a s surfers paradise but is also boasts off-shore oyster cultivation and a fishingboats harbour cum yachting harbour. In the near surroundings one can find old roman and moorish remnants. Furthemore there is of course the old "discoverers school" of Heny the Navigator. A bit further away are the Parque da Floresta golflinks, and Lagos, a quiet tourists town with farmers market, and the attractive Monchique mountain area with a famous spa.

Best is to use a car, or a bike. (Mountain) bikes are for rent in Sagres and Lagos. The nearest bus stop is some 3kms from Monte Bacana. (Vila do Bispo, Sagres). Nearest train station is Lagos (25 kms). Nearest airport is Faro 110 kms), other useful airports are Lisbon and Sevilla (Spain), both 300 kms.. Parking space on the premisses are abundant

The basic rate in January 2013 is 30 euro per night for 2 persons. In February: 35 euro per night for 2 persons. Every "extra" person is 10 euro per night more. Later in the year prices are higher up till 95 in high season. Ask the owner for details. For the moment these prices are all-in until maybe the municipality starts to charge tourist tax in 2013.

  In September 2011 we stayed for one week in this lovely house called Monte Bacana.
  Situated on top of a hill you have a magnificant view over the southern and western coast of the algarve, Sagres and the lighthouse of Cabo Sao Vicente. At night with sparkling stars above your head and illuminated Sagres in the distance. Great! Very close to nice beaches good for swimming, surfing and relaxing in one of the small beach restaurants. Nearest town is Vila do Bispo, not too touristic compared to other places in the algarve. Real portuguese food in the Cafe Correios, recommended!
  The house itself has a bedroom with a good king-size-bed (never had better pillows in a rental holiday home), a nice living room with an open kitchen - you will find everything needed for home cooking (go shopping before cooking in the Intermarche of Sagres or Budens!) - and a bathroom with a roll-in shower. Upstairs there is more room for sleeping.
  Outside you will find a fenced garden with terrace, a place in the shade too and opportunity for barbecueing.
  Everything is neat and clean, if you are bored by all the beautiful surroundings you may see satellite TV.
  The hosts are very kind and helpful, give as much assistence as wanted. Their two friendly dogs keep an eye on your belongings.
  We can recommend this place from every point of view!

  Gegenteil. Hier zählt das Individuum.Das Haus war für unseren aufenthalt
