Gentle Winds has a beautiful, virtually private beach, a huge salt water pool (no chlorine), tennis courts, a four-hole golf practice green, club/party house and game room, basketball court, "Pirates' Cove" play area for children, numerous tiki huts with lounge chairs, and a beach bar, for lunch, drinks, and socializing. Sporting equipment like tennis racquets, golf clubs, soccer and basketballs are available to borrow for free 24-7.

Gentle Winds is centrally situated on St Croix's mostly undeveloped North Shore, nestled between the sea, scenic mountains and the Salt River National Park and Ecological Preserve, site of Christopher Columbus' second voyage landing.

Gentle Winds has only 64 units in 9 buildings sited in a semi-circle around the beach. There are 45 acres of beautifully landscaped and carefully maintained grounds. This low-density and relatively secluded location make for an ambiance that is peaceful and private yet neighborly and friendly.

Although it feels quiet and apart, Gentle Winds is very centrally located and no more than 10-25 minutes away from all major attractions: the picturesque, historic towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted, a marina (within walking distance), the Robert Trent Jones Sr designed golf course at Carambola, the fascinating Botanical Garden, the rain forest, a casino,...not to mention the necessary amenities like restaurants, supermarkets and shopping centers

There are many activities available – sailing, diving, kayaking, horseback riding, guided tours and hikes, excursions in glass-bottomed kayaks to view bio-luminescent waters, and a robust program of concerts, theater, sporting events, fairs and festivals. St Croix hosts several marathons and a triathalon.

ABOUT C-1

Our unit C-1 is ideally oriented to take advantage of the sea views and the cooling trade-winds. You can see and hear sea and surf from the living room, the garden/dining room, one of the bedrooms, and the kitchen.

There is also a sea side gallery (covered porch) and an intimate patio, which only a few units at Gentle Winds have.

C-1 is a first floor end unit with a garden/dining room, for a spacious 1520 square feet


Just one step down from the patio and a short stroll across the lawn takes you to the pool and beach.

2 bedrooms, (1 king, 1 queen) 2 baths, plus queen pull-out sofa in front entry room can sleep 6 comfortably.

Getting around

Most guests prefer to rent a car and tour the island at whim. It is possible to get along without a car, however, by stocking up on groceries when you arrive and arranging for personal service from one of the many local taxi services. The drivers are easily identifiable at their station near baggage claim at the airport. Rates to hotels and vacation rentals are standardized. Personal service is negotiable.

The housekeeper/manager. Hyacinth, is available on short notice and the owners, Robert and Maresa are always happy to answer questions.

Just to clarify for visitors who need to plan -- frederiksted at the west end of the island is usually less than a 30 minute drive; christiansted is much closer maybe 15 - 20 minutes away and the airport is just 8 miles away or a 20 minute drive including the only road on the island where the speed limit is greater than 30 MPH, the Melvin Evans Highway.

Here is an update and clarification: C-1 is furnished with a full set of quality cooking equipment including a new set of knives, small appliances Including both hand and stand mixers, crock pot, food processors, and of course the customary blender, toaster, electric can opener and coffee maker. Regarding choice of vehicle- 4WD is definitely not necessary unless the visitor wishes to explore the unpaved back roads in "the bush". While it is true that some roads are in poor condition and there are potholes, the main roads are fine. I would say that only about 10-15% of vehicles on STX are 4WD. Most visitors rent small sedans or minivans if there is a large group
