Gobler's Corner is a little gem of St. George's. Reasonably priced, it has all the necessary amenities. Clean and well maintained, with a nice backyard. The area is very quite. It is within quick walk distance of the city center, and of the beaches. Mr.& Mrs. Oatley are very friendly. We stayed there off-season and Brian took us on a boat trip which was a highlight of our stay. We definitely recommend this place.

The studio apartment at Gobbler's Corner has everything you need for a home away from home vacation. It was clean, comfortable and even had it's own private garden at the back. It is close to restaurants, grocery store, post office, shopping, waterfront, beaches and bus stops. Bus service is fantastic and reasonable. Bus passes can be used all over the island and on the ferries too. Our host Brian went out of his way to make our stay interesting and pleasant. His knowledge of Bermuda is incredible. Locals were very friendly and helpful. We look forward to going back again in the near future.

I loved staying here. Clean, quiet, safe, close to the beach, friendly owners who don't trouble you at all, cable, washer/dryer, fridge, stove. I can go on all day. The only complaint is it's far out of Hamilton. However it's close to public transportation so that's not really an issue at all.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Gobbler's Corner:
Brian is a wonderful host, meeting us a the airport on our arrival and taking us out in his boat and pointing out some of the special places you'll find in Bermuda.
The apartment was perfect - convenient to downtown St. George, equipped with everything you would need for easy meals and snacks, and it was great to have a washer and dryer right in the apartment.
So much nicer than a hotel - it made our trip to Bermuda special.

Gobbler's Corner was wonderfully located - we could walk to everything in St. Georges. It was very clean, had everything we needed. The kitchen was supplied with many staples. Brian and Susan were very helpful. The apartment was exactly as advertised in the photos.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Gobbler's Corner. We were very pleasantly surprised at how large the apartment is! And the location is amazing- literally only a few minutes walk to town, to the bus, and so close to a really nice beach - Tobacco Bay.
We appreciated the proximity of the apartment to everything because we did not have scooters. This is a perfect location if you do not want to rent a scooter.
The apartment had very nice facilities- the kitchen and bathroom were both very spacious. Everything worked perfectly- the aC was nice and cool (and it was hot outside!) and it was very nice to have a kitchen.
Brian was a fantastic owner to work with- very communicative and so knowledgeable about Bermuda!
I would recommend bringing your own snorkel equipment if you are into snorkeling. There is no longer a set available at the apartment and it is $25 (!) a day (!) to rent a snorkel and mask (not even fins!) at Tobacco Bay.
We are definitely looking forward to our next stay!! -

We spent 2 weeks here and it was absolutely perfect. Brian and Susan were brilliant hosts, with Brian even taking us on a day trip on his boat. An experience neither my fiancee or myself with forget. It's a short walk into the centre of St Georges and a 10 minute walk to Tobacco Bay beach. The bed and pillows are also fantastic!!! I would recommend staying here to anybody and the value for money is amazing when you compare it to other establishments on the island.

If you are lucky enough to find an opening for a stay here, grab it. It's worth planning your vacation around Gobbler's Corner, the best value in Bermuda. We rented Brian and Susan's place for a week. What fun! The apartment has every amenity -- wi-fi, full kitchen, large bathroom with walk-in shower, even a washer and dryer (so don't overpack -- you can keep your clothes clean). There's a gas grill out back. Two blocks away is a grocery store and a liquor store. (The Oatleys stock many basics -- laundry detergent, condiments, tea, coffee filters, etc, so you don't have to buy these.) We cooked breakfast every morning in the apartment's kitchen, and split our dinners between restaurants and grilling steaks, burgers, etc. out back. Best snorkeling (Tobacco Bay, a sheltered area with many varieties of fish) is a 10-minute walk (and it has a full concession -- gear rental, food, drinks, etc.) Bus is 4 blocks away, and it'll carry you all over the island (best value is the discounted 15-trip coupons good for bus and ferry). Ferry is 3 blocks away for quick access to Royal Naval Dockyard and City of Hamilton. Scooter rental is 2 blocks away. Waterfront dining is 3 blocks away. Bermuda Perfumery is a block away. We saw Bermuda by foot, bus, ferry and scooter. Among the sites we took in: Crystal Cave and Fantasy Cave, botanical gardens, aquarium, zoo, Museum of Bermuda art, Tucker's Point area, pink-sand Elbow Beach, Dockyard, Hamilton (dinner at the Lobster Pot), high tea at the Perfumery, snorkeling, Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute -- all in a week. Plus, on one of our days, we saw all of St. George's and St. David's islands by boat, courtesy of Brian, who is a multi-generation Bermudian, loves the island, and enthusiastically shares his knowledge of it. We highly recommend Gobbler's Corner. One footnote about Bermuda: expect to pay about double for everything from groceries to restaurants, but consider that tax is already included so there are no add-ons. (U.S. Dollars are exchanged on par with Bermudian dollars and accepted everywhere. Credit cards accepted almost everywhere -- excluding a nearby Chinese takeout but it was worth paying cash for.)

Very cute little efficiency apartment. It's within walking distance of all the touristie sites of St. George, as well as restaurants and the grocery store. The public transportation system is very easy to use and takes you anywhere you want to go. It's also within walking distance of the apartment. Brian is a wonderful host. He personally provided us transportation to and from the airport. He is very knowledgeable about the Island and took us out on his boat.

I was born in St. George's, Bermuda and left at 1 year old. I finally made it back after 44 years and couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Brian and Susan were the best host and hostess we could have asked for. I would rather stay in an apt/Condo on all our trips now. There is nothing like it!!! Thank you again for making our dream trip fantastic!!! The personal tours, the hospitality, and welcoming us into your home. We will be back and won't stay any other place, but Gobbler's Corner!

This apartment was just what we needed for our stay in Bermuda. A short ride from the airport, and easy walk to get to beach and other places of interest in St George. Bus pick-up was also close and easy for travel outside of St George.
Brian, owner of apartment, was so helpful with suggestions of what to see, and history of island.
Was much more comfortable in this quiet area than we would have been in busy Hamilton. -

Gobbler's Corner was a perfect place to stay during our 8 night stay in Bermuda. St. George's is such a charming, cute town with its old homes, historic church, many restaurants, shops and beautiful flowering park. The harbor is a few minutes walk where you can pick up a ferry to Hamilton and the Royal Dockyard. We loved the fact that we had our own apartment with a complete, outfitted kitchen. The bathroom is huge and is newly renovated We got a great night sleep on the comfortable queen sized bed and were lulled to sleep by the peeping tree frogs. The place is spotlessly clean. A beautiful 10 minute walk will take you to the greatest spot called Tobacco Bay...a little jewel of a beach where you can swim and/or snorkle in turquoise, clear waters. Close to Gobbler's Hill is Blackbeard's Hideaway (a restaurant/bar that is part of a time-share open to the public).where you can enjoy a cold drink and watch the sunset on the atlantic. We returned home very relaxed and satisfied with our stay.

We loved our stay at Gobbler's Corner! The apartment is spotless, and the plentiful amenities that are included are excellent. Having a washer and dryer was a true bonus, and the refrigerator and stove allowed us to "cook in" after a busy day at the beach. The bed is comfortable, and lots of linens and towels are provided. We loved the beautiful white bathroom, with it's walk-in glass shower.
Brian and Susan even provided the little things, like tea bags, coffee, detergent, paper towels, trash bags, and dish soap - so we didn't have to buy the "staples" that we would have needed during our stay. This was generous of them, and so convenient for us. There were lots of books on the bookshelves - some giving background and travel information about Bermuda, and some for our relaxation reading. There were even some board games for rainy days - but we never had one rainy spot in our 12 days in Bermuda!
Brian and Susan Oatley were great hosts. Susan greeted us on our arrival, showed us around the apartment, and explained the appliances. Brian stopped by to chat and make sure we had everything we needed. He even took us out on his boat on our last evening in Bermuda, giving us a water-view of the island and offering wonderful comments about its history and natural attributes - and it's celebrity home-owners.
The location of the apartment is perfect, just a 5 minute walk to the center of St. George, the historic town at the east end of Bermuda. We walked to the amazing Tobacco Beach, where we snorkeled, ate at the snack bar, and relaxed in the sun on the beach. We were also able to walk to the ferry dock and the local bus stop to go to other parts of the island - the local transportation system is excellent.
If you're looking for a place to call home in Bermuda - a place that is comfortable, convenient, and reasonably priced - then Gobbler's Corner is the perfect rental for you! -

Gobbler’s Corner is spotlessly clean, safe, well-equipped, and in easy walking distance to town (restaurants/shops), the bus & ferry, and the beach. The bed and couch are comfortable, the wi-fi fast, and bathroom is spa-like. The kitchen is just what the independent traveler wants (with a full service grocer a 2 minute walk away...and a pretty good Chinese take-out not much farther). There are beach towels and a beach umbrella available in the closet, as well as an iron and ironing board. There is also a washer/dryer. I do believe that Brian and Susan have thought of everything! The private backyard is fabulous for enjoying a meal or relaxing with a book. Really, this is a dream apartment, in a fabulous location, at a very reasonable price. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.
While the town of St. George is the northern most town, the rest of the island is easily accessible with the clean and efficient public transportation system (bus, ferry). It is very easy to travel to Hamilton, the south shore beaches, or Royal Naval Dockyard. Gobbler’s Corner is also very close to the airport, making for a relatively inexpensive taxi ride.
Brian with his wife, Susan, are the most hospitable keepers that I have encountered. Brian so obviously loves Bermuda and wants to share that with his guests. He offered to take us on an auto tour around the island of St. George the first night we were there (tourists can’t rent vehicles on island) – how fantastic and memorable that was! He offered us tips on the perfect walking paths to the beach, places to eat and shop, and the best bus routes to take. He is so knowledgeable and shares the historical significance of the island and knows a lot about local flora and fauna! We loved talking with him. The grand finale of their hospitality included Brian taking us out on his boat on a sightseeing adventure – truly amazing – and Susan offering us fish cakes, freshly homemade, for Good Friday celebration! Wow!
We will certainly stay at Gobbler’s Corner again and encourage you to do so, too, if you are an independent traveler looking to spend time away from fancy (and expensive) hotels and loads of tourists! -

Hamilton, BermudaGobbler's Corner, the place to stay in St George
Left on 01/31/2011 for a stay in January 2011
We arrived in Gobbler's Corner on December 28th 2010, planning to stay originally for 4 weeks. My wife and I (plus our small dog) were relocating to Bermuda and had to live somewhere until we found our own place. We didn't manage to find a place in time so, in the end, we spent a total of 5 weeks with Brian Oatley in Gobbler's Corner.
The guest house is absolutely excellent! There is cable television and free wireless internet, which was a huge bonus for us since we needed to communicate with our folks in Europe. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with everything from stove and microwave to fridge, freezer, washer, drier, coffe machine, toaster etc. Brian even put some little bits and bobs out for us (coffee and filters, selection of teas) to make our stay comfortable. Since I had to go to work, the iron and ironing board was also a bonus.
The bathroom deserves special mention. Bathrooms in Bermuda tend to be tiny but in Gobbler's Corner, the bathroom is huge and has a walk-in shower. All facilities seem brand new, furnished to a high standard and well maintained. Hot water was never a problem.
Gobbler's corner is in the centre of St George. It's close to an abandoned golf course which makes it ideal for walking the dog. It's also pretty close to Tobacco Bay and St Catherine's fort and beach. These sites are great for swimming and snorkeling although in January, it wasn't exactly beach weather. We did spend some time on the beach but mostly walking and wading into the water up to our knees.
St George is a lovely little town. It's safe any time of the day or night, we never felt threatened. The locals are nice and pretty helpful. You can ask anyone for directions and they will oblige and people even say hi to you when they see you on the street. There isn't a lot to do in Ste George in the winter (e.g. only two restaurants: Tavern by the Sea and Wahoo's) and most of the shops are closed but it's still nice to walk around. I will definitely go back there in the summer months to see it in all it's glory.
One of the best things about the guest house is the owner. Brian is a local guy, very knowledgeable in Bermuda history and, since he's held lots of different jobs in the past, he seems to know a little about many things. This comes in very handy when you need information and Brian is always happy to provide it. He even took us out on his boat during one weekend when it was hot and sailed all the way to John Smiths bay showing us all the houses of the rich and famous in Tucker's Town. Brian is also the commodore of a local sailing club and he invited me out a couple of times for a few frames of pool in the club house.
Brian does have one dog (his second dog died sadly when we were there) and it sometimes barks. But, we were never disturbed by it. We have a dog of our own and the two never caused any problems. He doesn't usually take pets into the guest house but, if you make a good case and your pet is quite small and quiet, he doesn't seem to mind.
The guest house is quite humid but this is no different to any other house of a certain age in Bermuda. You have to be prepared for this and make sure you ventilate the place well so avoid having the humidity settle on your things. We were not so well prepared and managed to ruin a couple of things but it's quite easy to avoid if you know what to do: always keep a couple of windows open, run the ceiling fan if you can and dry your clothes in the drier.
All in all, an excellent guest house experience! -

For years I've been sailing to Bermuda and have been staying at Susan and Brian Oatley's guest apartment. This apartment is conveniently located just 2 blocks off of the main road in St. George on Turkey Hill. Conveniently located to the center of town square shopping and restaurants. This apartment has everything you need for your stay to include cable TV, internet, washer and dryer and a full kitchen for those days that you would rather eat in. Owners Susan and Brian Oatley welcome you and are the most friendly, and hospitable hosts. If you're looking for a nice, quiet, clean and convenient apartment for your stay while in St. George, you couldn't find a better place to hang your hat.
