NashvilleGreat location but a very dirty house.
Left on 04/03/2013 for a stay in March 2013
You couldn't ask for a better spot to enjoy the beach at St. George Island. This funky, old ranch home was roomy and had great views of the beach, which was just a 20-yard walk away, through the sea oats.
The problem, however, was that the house was so dirty it hampered our stay. It was a good thing our friends got there before we did; they called and told us to bring linens, towels, cookware, etc., and we're glad we did. The cookware and dishes looked as if they'd been put away dirty. The upholstered furniture was filthy and needed vacuumed and/or shampooed. (We covered the furniture with beach towels) Holes in the extra blankets, etc. $300 -- and a new housekeeper -- would make this a great, un-fussy place to rent. -

Beachy Keen is a mirror twin of ah Santorini. We have had the pleasure, now, of staying in both units. Beachy Keen is outstanding. It is built on the old style, on the ground with old growth, exposed southern pine beams. Very comfortable and affordable. The unit is dog friendly, has good wi-fi internet access, and is affordable. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the kitchen needs to be restocked. It is a little short of utensils, pots, pans, and cups. Otherwise it is all there and very functional. It is not ultra-modern, it is a blast from the past that is ultra comfy and cozy. I'd love to be there during the winter!

Beachy Keen could use a little updating. The oven needs to be replaced. The knobs got really hot when it was on and it caused some concern. The temperature numbers were worn off so you had to guess what temperature you set. Some more larger utensils would have been nice, there were no large spoons. It was fine for 2 people for a few days, but would be somewhat uncomfortable for an entire family. For the price, we probably won't rent this one again.
St. George Island Vacation Properties was wonderful, though. They were so accomodating with everything. -

This place was exactly as advertised-walk out the door down to the beach. Basic but well equipped--just what we were looking for. Also cannot beat the location-away from busy beach area, but short walk there.
Also, perfect for my old dog that can't climb stairs! -

Good, quiet location, easy access. Furnishings were marginally adequate, but kitchen utensils were far below average. Several pots and pans had large rust spots! Not enough eating utensils. We requested wine glasses and a cookie sheet, and the real estate agency provided them promptly. No electrical outlet in master bath. Living room windows (fogged) need to be replaced to provide a clear view of the beach. Need blinds on dining windows for turtle protection. Toilet paper holder in one bathroom needs replacing (broken). Vacuum cleaner handle has a screw missing, allowing the handle to rotate, thus making it difficult to use. Overall marginal, but much below average for the price. Rental service was very good.

Arrived on rainy Sunday evening to find roof leaking, water standing on floor in living room, water dripping off light fixture onto dining room table and a leak in the bedroom. (Not on bed, luckily.) Beds had clean sheets, but coverlet on bed in master bedroom had nasty looking spots on it and had to be washed before we could use that bed. Master bathroom had not been cleaned. Cleanliness was a problem throughout our stay. Upon entering house for first time, I kicked off my shoes as is my habit, but floor was so gritty with sand already in there that I wore shoes inside the house during our entire stay. We also found burrs and popcorn on the floor making me think it had not been swept. Monday being a holiday, I waited until Tuesday morning to inform realty about water leaks and dirty bedding. I arrived at their office at 9:00 am, they rolled in at 10 and 15 minutes after 9. Guess that says it all.

We loved the property overall. Being directly on the Beach at such a economical price was awesome. The sunrises and sunsets from the porch were absolutely amazing. Just a short drive to the public dock to drop our boat. My grandkids came down on Saturday and had a blast! The property was well equipped - had everything we needed - except a large pot to boil crabs. But we made it work! Loved our stay and will return soon!

Beachy Keen was the only beachfront rental available when we went there. It is an older home, and in need of renovation. We had trouble with a TV and with one bathroom shower. Both problems were fixed promptly.
The air conditioning is provided by wall units, and the bedroom doors must be kept open or you will freeze to death at night. Some of the blinds do not work well, and there were broken (cracked) windows. -

This is an older property. It was adequate for our needs. Could use some updating and upgrading of appliances, beds/bedding and a little work on the a/C to distribute the cool air more efficiently. We have stayed in the adjacent property twice. So we knew what we were getting. With that said, we had a great time at SGI. And will return to SGI, potentialy to this property.

Tallahassee, FloridaIt was great! Do it again in a heartbeat!
Left on 08/17/2011 for a stay in July 2011
First few days the sea was gentle. Mid week there was strong surf with undertow and rip current. I was shocked how oblivious most parents were letting there kids in the big waves without checking for undertow and rip current! I was a solo swimmer so very cautious those days. The final day was calm bathtub soaking sea with gentle waves.
Beachy Keen was fine. Like being nestled into a sand dune comfortably. Early morning and late evening walking was coll enough. Mid-day was for aC and reading inside. July on the "forgotten" Gulf Coast -- no surprise. Well, one surprise. Fresh bread at a local bakery within walking distance. Delicious! -

This was a no frills beach cottage. Great probably for those wanting to bring pets however we did not have pets. When my daughter climbed into her bed the first night it was full of dog hair (between the sheets) and had to be laundered before she could sleep that night. Other than that,we were in the area for a softball tournament and as we progressed in the standings, I called and left a message to see if we could pay for a late checkout with no reply. It would have helped us out greatly. But we packed up and left early with nearly a whole day to try and find something to do until our game that evening.

My husband and I stayed in Beachy Keen recently. The outside could use some updating and some things in the inside as well but it was very clean and well kept. It is not a high-end home but is very cute and cottage like, which was perfect for us and our little dog. It is right on the beach which not only made for beautiful views but also for easy access and romantic strolls ... We had a wonderful time ...

Our family had a great time on St. Ga Island. Beachy Keen is a great beach front home, but the roof leaks in several places (on the dining room table, one bedroom, living rooom, etc.) & the oven did not work properly. We burned several meals as a result. In our opinion, the stove is very dangerous. We reported the above problems to the rental agency & hope that all these problems will be resolved very soon. In addition, a water spout took out all power to the entire Island for 36 hours. An inconvenience, for sure, but did not put a damper on our fun on the beach. We have been going to St. Ga Island for 6 years & we will continue to return for many years to come.

We have stayed at this property several times, and Very much like it. It is directly on the beach and one story for people with 'stair' issues. My only dis-like with the property is that it is slightly over-priced, since it is an older home and the appliances need work and the furniture is kinda used. It is pet friendly and my dog loves the home.

The unit is right on the beach, and the chairs on the deck were nice. Awesome views. The unit was very clean (bathrooms, floors, kitchen) and the tiled floors were nice. My only complaint was that the couches and chairs were ripped and dirty, and the mattresses were uncomfortable (there were boards underneath them). Staff was great checking in and checking out.

Left on 11/23/2010 for a stay in October 2010
The best thing about Beachy Keen was the location - perfect!
The cottage left a lot to be desired with furnishings - 3 teaspoons, 3 bowls (1 was melted in dishwasher), no small plates, no blankets on beds.
I tried calling the rental agency several times during business hours and noone answered.
When I spoke to the cleaning lady and told her about the blanket situation, she said our unit had problems with the blankets???
I live locally so I ended up bringing silverware and blankets to the unit.
Other than the fact that the unit wasn't very well supplied, it was comfortable and, as I mentioned, the location on the beach was perfect! -

House is convenient to beach and was a value for the price we paid. Needs to have a bit of touch up (ceiling fan in living room doesn't work, need to replace - or provide - sheers on some of the windows, paint could us sprucing up inside in general, furniture needs upgrade to at least the 1990s) to remain competitive with other, newer properties.

We had originally book a condo in panama city beach and was told that the beach in front was pet friendly. wrong. so long story short i called a few places and found this island. the lady at st george island vacation properties was very very helpful and found this great little get away home for hundreds of dollars less than a conda with no immediate beach access. A+ plan to visit the island again later in the year!

This is a precious house right on the beach. We took our 2 year old and my mother and father for 3 days. It was the perfect house for us! The only issue we had is the vent return in the living room area did not blow well so that room seemed to stay pretty warm. Also, the freezer never did freeze and we had to use ice from coolers. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time and created a beautiful memory for my little boy. We would consider staying again if these things were fixed.

Left on 11/03/2009 for a stay in August 2009
The cost of this unit for what we received was, in my opinion, exorbitant. When we arrived there were dirty dishes in the cabinet. We washed everything before we used them. The cabinet handles and drawers were sticky and there were many dead roach carcasses in dirty utensils and dirty ice trays under the kitchen sink. The refrigerator was not working and we found out later that the wiring was crossed and the breaker was tripping and knocking the refrigerator off. It was 2 days before we had any ice and worried the food we brought would be spoiled and make us sick. Thankfully it did not seem to. The kitchen fan-light fixture over the dining table had a short in it and had to be disconnected and not replaced meaning we did not have a light in that room. There was a leak in the roof over the kitchen counter and a broken step on the landing coming into the unit. The air conditioner could not keep the front of the house below 83 degrees. We of course, reported all of these incidents but only the wiring to the refrigerator was repaired. The other things remained broken the whole time we were there.
The guest book has numerous comments from people who signed the book telling how dirty they found the unit on their arrival. They also complained about the fact that there were things that needed repair and the air conditioning system. One major problem I had was that my oxygen was not delivered as promised by your officewhen I made my reservations. My O2 supplier even said he was told when he delivered the unit to your office that your maintenance dpt would take it to the rental, as other rental agts have done for many years that I have come to SGI. I was without my O2 and was told by your offc I would have to pick it up or pay $45 for someone to deliver it. I had to ask my supplier to make the trip from Panana City again to bring the unit from your office to our unit. We were told you do not actually have a maintenance dpt which I found unbelievable.

The price was right, loved being able to have my dog along on the nice walks on the beach. Everyone at St. George Island Vacation Properties was very nice and when the water pipe busted they had it fixed in no time. The house was nice and clean and I was surprise how much room there was. The best part was it's on the beach so we could walk or sit a watch the waves from the house. I will be back very soon !

We came home with bed bugs after renting this property. When we called St. George Vacation Properties about the situation they couldn't have cared less. We understand that bed bugs can be a reality of traveling. However, we expected more concern and response from Vacation Properties. We will return to St. George but will never use Vacation Properties again! The house was nice otherwise.

Built in the mid-70s, this lovely small home has direct flat access to the Gulf beach. It is perfect for children and families with pets. We were able to kitesurf every day while grandma and grandpa tended to our two infant children. We did find bugs here and there in the house but that is surely a common issue to all the older homes. We were happy with the helpful and cheerful management as well as the friendly cleaning crew on the Saturday we left. We can recommend this home.
