St George Island is beautiful...Fun n Sun is another story...

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012

The island is beautiful and we loved staying in the Plantation area. It's near great fishng at The Cut and the beach is beautiful. The house was less than desired. For starters, it says is accomodates 20. We had 15. While we knew the layout and the room set up prior to arrival we weren't prepared for several issues. 1) The kayak was missing and the realty company wouldn't provide one so we had to rent one. It was listed as an ammenity. 2) Lots of electrical usses - light switches for one room were in others, many bulbs burned out (those were replaced when we called) and electrical outlets belw several times. The electrician came twice and said the house has very strange wiring...hmmm. 3) There is only dinner service for 12 or 13 - plates and forks were at a premuim and there were only 6 coffee cups. 4) Bedding was very poor. There was not mattress pad on many of the beds. Yuck. The mattresses were old and worn. 5) Furnishings were terrible. Sofas, comforter and chairs were worn, stained and thread bear in many areas. 6) The carpet upstairs had huge stains on it and was dirty. 6) I'm not sure when the house was dusted last, but not before we showed up. 7) Rust stains on the air vents and fridge. Disappointed in this house. Won't ever stay there again but found others we plan to book. Loved the island and the quietness though, just not this house. Owners need to do al ot of cleaning and updating or quit renitng it. I couldn't rent it in that shape.

Disrepair, safety issues, and unclean...not so fun n sun

Left on 07/09/2012 for a stay in June 2012

This property needs an overhaul. We arrived to a flooded game room, leaking foyer, unclean, and unsafe rental. Several building code violations such as no railing on steps, front door wouldn't open, screen door handle broken with jagged handle, and cockroaches. My husband broke a toe decending the steps without a railing and one of the children fell off the ledge. Friday morning there was standing water in the downstairs bedroom and several personal items were damaged. Nails in driveway that punctured a tire and so much more that I'm getting stressed now as I'm reliving this awful experience.
After driving 16 hours and paying $4000 we were extremely shocked by the state of this rental. Was also were told that we'd have access to the community pool and was turned away. St. George Island Vacation Properties did the best they could and refunded 3 nights stay. However I feel we should have been refunded the entire amount. Hopefully the owners have taken this property off the market and will begin repairs. However looking at the website it looks like it's still being rented out. Overall we felt like this was not a vacation at all. Dealing with daily issues that are clearly safety issues made a very stressful vacation. There were several children that could've gotten hurt. When you get one week a year to relax you don't want to spend it this way. Also would like to metion that this home was leaking before hurricane Debbie decended upon the island. (June 9-16, 2012)

Many things broken, in need of repair or replacement. Advertized 16-20 but really stretching the truth.

      Marginal at best

Left on 07/13/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The house supposedly could hold up to 20, but we were crowded with 12. Only seating for 6 in the TV area, TV in some bedrooms didn't work, sleeping area downstairs (with the most sleeping spaces) stayed 5-10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house, and who sets up a sleeping area for 8 (supposedly) with no bathroom on that level? Kitchen was severely lacking in proper pots, pans, utensils. Unit had clothes hanging in the closet and trash on the floor when we checked in. Who thought it would be a good idea to put the outdoor shower on the opposite side of the house from the pool? Electronics are from the '80s (except for the TV in the family room). The St. George Vacation Property Rentals staff seemed totally unconcerned when I mentioned our displeasure with the house, and made the comment, "Oh well, some people like it." They also gave us a $100 gift certificate to use on the island for booking through them, but it took us 4 attempts at the 3 places listed before we were able to use it.

      Spacious home on quiet beach

Left on 04/15/2011 for a stay in April 2011

First the positives- this neighborhood is very pretty and quiet. We felt very secure in the gated Plantation. The rental company was helpful. The beach was not at all crowded during spring break. The water and sand was pretty. We caught plenty of fish in the surf.

The house itself was a bit disappointing. It has plenty of bed space but the fixtures, furnishings, bathrooms and kitchen are dated compared to some of the other homes in the area.

The floor plan is a bit disjointed. The rec room is small and has mini game tables. The pool and spa are also on the small side.

You can see the ocean but the lot across the street has grown up and partially obscures the view. Beach access involves a walk down the street to a public boardwalk.

This home is located near the very end of the Island so restaurants and shopping involves a car ride back to the center.

If you like quiet and seclusion but don't mind an older style home you will enjoy this place. Unfortunately our teenagers were bored after the first couple of days.

      beautiful weather

Left on 11/29/2010 for a stay in November 2010

We had a wonderful time at St. George. The only complaint I have about the house is that it did not have a deck for everyone to gather and sit. The only decks were off two of the bedrooms and not many could sit there. Two chairs were on each deck. It was nice to beable to walk to Bob Sykes cut.

      Beautiful beaches, nice, quiet area

Left on 09/15/2010 for a stay in September 2010

The beaches and area were beautiful. The house is in need of a little updating - but for the money - it was a great deal. Would stay again and recommend to others.

Home not large enough for 19 people.

Left on 07/30/2010 for a stay in July 2010

The online description of this home is misleading. The main level and the upstairs bedrooms were nice but the downstairs area for 8 people was not good. Room to small for that many people, no bathroom, very warm all the time. Pool was also to small for the 19 people in our party. Could not use chairs by the pool because almost all were plastic and were very soft from sun and would not hold a person sitting on them. Location to beach was fine.

Fun N Sun could be better

Left on 07/14/2010 for a stay in July 2010

I've been coming to the island for many years, this time I needed a house that would sleep at least 17 people so I chose Fun N Sun. The location is great, the neighborhood is nice, but the condition of the house was adequate at best. The carpet was heavily stained, the exterior paint needed redoing, some of the furniture was in poor condition. One of the cabinet doors in a bathroom fell off the first time it was opened. All of the chairs by the pool except one were broken. The biggest problem was that the game room flooded when it rained. Also, the water main broke while we were there, which we reported mid week and still hadn't been fixed when we left. All of this being said, the location is desirable and the beach is very close and easily accessable and the nieghborhood is good. The house is also pet friendly which is a plus for me. The pool is very small, but it was nice to have a hot tub (also very small). It was the most reasonably priced of all the houses that would accomodate this meany people. I wouldn't stay there again however.

      Not Beach Front

Left on 06/23/2010 for a stay in June 2010

We thought we were renting a Beach Front property but we found that we only had a Beach View. That's why I gave the value a low rating.
The locks and door hinges on the pool were so rusty that we could not open them without a hammer. Once we got them open we couldn't close them. This made us very nervous since we had young children with us. Apparently, a work order had been put in before we got there and the locks and hinges were not replaced during our stay.
The check-in process was miserable. We thought we could check in at 4pm but when we got there we (along with many others) were told that there was no guarantee that we could check in at 4 only that we would could get in between 4 and 6. We had young kids/infants in the cars and some people had cars full of food. Some of the problems could have been avoided by making it crystal clear upfront that we might not get in until 6pm.
There was not an efficient process for getting houses ready. I hung out in the office during the wait and it looked like this might have been the first time management made the transition from one group of guests to another.
The employees in the office during check in were very friendly and courteous and caring in spite of the fact that many people were angry and not shy about saying so. They deserve pats on the back for handling such a difficult situtation. They tried to expedite things as best they could, but frankly, having good processes in place is the responsibiliy of management.
Even with all these negative experiences we ended up having a great time. That is in part due to our attitude and in part due to the fact that the pool, hot tub, and beach gave us what we were looking for once we got over our disappointment of not being on the beach.
