WisconsinBest Value on the Island
Left on 01/23/2012 for a stay in April 2011
This home is the best value on the island. Very nice size bedrooms, wonderful kitchen and large family room. Oversized bathrooms and wonderful showers add a nice touch. Our kids love the pool. Short walk to the beach. This home is much larger than it looks from the outside picture. (I included a better one below)
If there was a negative I would say it would be the stove, it's an older electric stove. With a beautiful kitchen like that you want to make an amazing gourmet meal but you really have to improvise and be creative with that stove. :) That being said, I can say we have stayed at several of the homes on the island and this is the first one we decided to stay a second year in a row! It truely is the best value for the money.

ElizabethNice large house close to the beach
Left on 01/23/2012 for a stay in June 2011
We stayed at this home in June 2011. It was our first time to St. George Island. The pros: The home was large for our family of 7 and had plenty of room to spread out. It was nicely decorated and clean. You did have a nice view of the Gulf from the top floor. The pool was great and clean. The area was very laid back and relaxing. Resort Vacation Properties was very easy to work with. The cons: the refrigerator never really got "cold". A repairman came by and worked on it and although it was better, it still did not work completely right...for the rest of the week, we just tried not to open the door too much to keep the food chilled. We sat the a/c at 73 (as there was a warning about setting it much lower or it would freeze up) but since it only had one a/c unit, the second floor would be very cool and the upstairs stayed at least 5-10 degrees hotter. Had to keep fans running day and night upstairs. The mattresses desperately need to be replaced. It is quite a walk to the beach...we ended up just driving there most days. Finally, the beach was nice..but not like the white beaches of Panama City Beach or Destin. The only thing that was a nuisance at the beach were the animals. There were always at least a few dogs running around without leases and the owners apparently were not "cleaning" up after them (just throwing sand over it) as the beach had a stench of their "leavings". Each day we moved either up or down the beach to get to a "clean" smelling area. I am sure this is not the "norm" but it was during our week there.
All in all, it was a relaxing week at St. George's Island and this home was quite nice.Response from Resort Vacation Properties of St. George Island - 03/06/2012

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased that you enjoyed a relaxing week on St. George Island & found A Shore Thing well suited to your needs. We are pleased to report that there have been no additional reports of problems with the refrigerator or the A/C since your visit. We apologize that some pet owners were not as conscientious as others. As you note, this is certainly not the “norm.” With regards to the mattresses, we often find that the comfort of mattresses is subjective. What may be comfortable for one person may be uncomfortable for the next. We appreciate your comments and have forwarded them to the homeowners for their review & consideration. Thank you for your patronage. We look forward to having you back as our guest again soon.

House was well equiped and comfortable. The only negative was there were no directions on the trash collection days. Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend it.

Tallahassee, FloridaNice get away!
Left on 12/15/2009 for a stay in August 2009
Nice two level get away with a good view of the Gulf in the short distance. No problem getting extra towels or any other service offered. Loved the little swimming pool and under house parking. Least liked the lack of maintenance on the upper level screened-in area notably the screen door. Over-all, an enjoyable stay on my favorite island.

Brighton, MichiganA Shore Thing is a Sure Thing!
Left on 12/15/2009 for a stay in February 2009
We had a great Spring Break experience on St George Island. A friend of mine and I took our seniors and a couple friends there for their "senior trip". Knowing the type of kids we were dealing with, we listened to their desires for spring break; beach, warm, friends, not too costly. We chose St George Island after internet research and met all their criteria. When we arrived, the look on their faces was priceless. It was way over the top, more than they had dreamed of. The week was perfect, good friends, very nice accommodations, great beach, wonderful memories.

Leesburg, GaBEST WEEK OF THE YEAR!
Left on 01/27/2009 for a stay in May 2008
Five friends (all women) stayed at A Shore Thing last year. We all had a wonderful time.
The kitchen is great for preparing meals, very roomy and spacious. We especially loved the really large dining table!
The bedrooms were comfortable, the decor was nice, we had everything we needed for our stay.
We loved the screened in porch on the back upper deck, and the stairway down the back to the pool.
It's a little bit of a walk to the beach, but we spent most of our time at the pool, so it wasn't a problem. It is a nice house if you are looking for a comfortable house not right on the beach.

Conway, ArkansasAbsolutely Wonderful!
Left on 01/27/2009 for a stay in July 2008
Our family absolutely loved staying at "A Shore Thing." The house is beautiful and is the perfect place for a vacation with family and extended family. From the top floor you can see the ocean and it's easy to walk or drive to the beach. We have stayed at St. George Island before, but this was the best place we have stayed. It's reasonably priced, but extremely nice. You won't be compromising if you stay here. We played in the pool everyday and we also enjoyed using the big concrete area under the house when it rained. I highly recommend this property and hope to stay there again soon.

Left on 01/27/2009 for a stay in October 2008
We have always stayed on the Plantation and were leary about not staying there again. This house was perfect. The lay out is great for multiple families or a family with pre-teens and teens. We cook most of our meals and the kitchen was well equipped and very roomy. Liked the table in the middle for extra space. First house we have stayed in that had an electric griddle "AWESOME". We always have issues with pans that stick, so we usually bring our own skillet. Didn't have to use my own knife either. That's a change, I always bring my own. We were very pleased with the privacy of the home. The way it faces and window placement, it was like nobody was around us. Also how the windows were, we were able to open them most of the time and enjoy a great cross breeze, especially the top floor. We would open all the large sliding doors and just enjoy the view, breeze and even hear the ocean. Having the top deck screened was perfect. We ate several meals on the deck. We even brought some Halloween decorations and were able to enjoy sitting on the deck without fighting the bugs. Wireless internet was great. I had to do some work and didn't have any problems with the internet as I have had in previous homes. The swivel loungers in the upper living area were a hit. We were fighting to see who got them first. Pool looked great. Too cold to swim, although my daughter had to try it. Liked the roomy deck around the pool, actual room to lay out. Bathrooms are awesome, like the roomy showers and water pressure was "Sweet". Access to beach is easy, just be sure you are wearing some sort of sandals or shoes. We had a teen that didn't know what "Sand Spurs" were. He does now. We have already recommended this house to several of our friends and hope to have the opportunity to stay in again in 2009. We were also pleased with ample concrete parking underneath. Is also good if you have skateboarders. All in All another wonderful time in SGI.

Louisville, KYOur little piece of paradise
Left on 01/22/2009 for a stay in June 2008
My Husband, myself, four of our five children, our sons fiance', our 2 year old granddaughter, my sister and nephew all made the journey to St. Georges Island. We have been to Destin several times in the past and wanted to try a more "relaxed & laid-back" environment.
WOW did we make the right decision!!! We absolutely LOVE this island and plan to make this our "new" vacation spot. We are super sorry that we didn't discover this when our kids were younger(they are all young adults now). It is soooo perfect for family vacations! The beaches were fabulous! The closer strangers were 50-100 yards away, not at all like Destin.
Our house didn't look like much from the outside but the inside was wonderful especially the top floor! A HUGE eat-in kitchen/living room with a full wall of sliding glass doors to reveal our very decent view of the Gulf. The covered porch was primo and the pool was an appreciated break from the ocean. It wasn't a bad walk to the beach but next time our goal is to get even closer!! I hope this beautiful town will never grow up and will always be true to the "old Florida". We will be coming here as long as we are living!! We can't wait for our next visit and showing more of our family "our little piece of paradise"!!! -

Left on 01/16/2009 for a stay in July 2008
Our 2008 Vacation was the second time we stayed at Shore Thing for a family vacation.
The house was a great Grandparent find for hosting Kids and Grandkids. The private pool was great for the small kids and the Gulf attracted the big kids! We look to return in the future.
