Our group has rented homes on SGI for almost 10 years now, and we've had nothing but outstanding service and great hospitality from the rental companies there.
That being said, I'd like to comment on the house we just stayed in - Beach Breeze. The house was right at $500 per person, and this is what we found -
Front Door doesn't lock properly
Rusted lamps and stained lamp shades
Rusted light fixtures in the bathrooms
Windows that don't work properly and are full of sand
Shower heads that have lime build up and rust
Large cracks and stains on the walls and ceilings
Dirty couches and chairs
No ice maker in the refrigerator (it was in the cabinet beneath the sink, broken)
Rusted refrigerator
Rusted vents
2/3 remotes on t.v.'s did not work
Dated t.v.'s w/blurry pictures
Broken lamp in the living room with actual wiring exposed
Rusted, dirty and old furniture on the balcony - except for the plastic chairs
I have never been so disappointed in a house that we've rented ever. Hopefully, tthe owners of this home will will wake up about the ill repair and the lack of upkeep. -

The property listing says it can sleep up to 8 people, and while we only had six, they only had six plates, etc. in the unit so we were continually doing dishes after every meal. There were a number of broken items (lamps, furniture, deck chairs) and the rugs were stained. The 3rd bedroom is actually a loft and there was a very large structural crack where the loft connected to the main floor. A few of the doors (bathroom/closet) didn't hang right, so you were always fighting with them. Very small showers in 2 baths. The unit was missing several kitchen items, but the folks at Resort Vacation Properties were very accomodating and supplied us with what we needed. We have had better experiences in other properties on St. George Island.

Frankfort, Ky.great location for children
Left on 03/24/2011 for a stay in February 2011
We normally stay away from the town area, but with a 3 1/2 year old we thought it would be better this time to be near the palyground and be able to walk to the stores, etc. We liked the layout of the house and were lucky to have quiet neighbors for most of our stay, as the porches are very close. The check in, getting the house code before we arrived, was great. The house was clean and well prepared. We had great weather for February, yet the area was not crowded due to the time of year. We have been coming to St. George for years and have often talked about staying in one of the "row houses". We were glad we did.

Beach Breeze junky
Columbia, TennesseeSerene and peaceful
Left on 12/30/2009 for a stay in April 2009
I love the peaceful feeling I always have when we stay at St. George Island.
I've never had a bad experience and I think we have stayed there 4 or 5
times so far. We always see the dolphins swimming off shore and have seen
several eagles, osprey, pelicans, sandpipers and seagulls. The water and
beach are clean and it's never been too crowded to find a great place to
layout without someone nearby shaking their sandy towel all over you.
Everyone is friendly.
We really like Beach Breeze and always stay there. The interior is very
"beachy" feeling and roomy. We enjoy the teal and white color scheme. We
love being right on the beach and looking out the window or sitting on the
deck to watch the ocean. I love that it is family and pet friendly. We always
bring our dog and he loves the beach. The food in the nearby restaurants is
awesome! St. George Island is not overly commercialized and we consider
that a plus.
However, when we were there in April 09 Beach Breeze was starting to
show some wear and tear. We think a minor "facelift" might be in order such
as repainting the outside, new area rugs and boardwalk repairs. We strongly
dislike the window darkening material over ALL the ocean view windows
and doors that was put up this year. It really takes away from the clear and
sunny view. I know it's for the sea turtles, but isn't closing the window
blinds enough? I hope they take it off before we vacation this year. It alone
would make us consider another vacation property or place.
Nevertheless, St. George Island is a wonderful place to vacation if you're
looking for a little peace and quiet while you enjoy the sun, beach, wildlife
and ocean.Response from Resort Vacation Properties of St. George Island - 04/23/2010

Manager
Thank you for taking the time to share your vacation rental feedback with us. We are delighted that you have continually enjoyed your vacations to St. George Island and your stays at Beach Breeze. In response to your comments about the window darkening material, you are correct that it was done to protect the sea turtles. We apologize that it doesn’t meet your expectations. We are however, pleased to inform you that the home is in the process of a minor “facelift” including a fresh coat of paint on the outside, steam cleaned area rugs & a number of new Adirondack chairs for the deck. Thank you for your continued patronage, we look forward to having you as our guest again at Beach Breeze this May.
Sincerely, Resort Vacation Properties

Gatlinburg, TNLovely House
Left on 01/28/2009 for a stay in March 2008
I have stayed in many of the homes on the island over the years.
Several friends would meet every year and we would stay the whole
month of February. But in 2008 was the first time I was just looking
for a place for only two people. I didn't want a house that we would
feel lost in and needed one that would fit our budget. Beach Breeze fit
our needs and more. Loved the furniture and choice of colors in the
house. It is centrally located. The owners had left a book you could
leave your comments about your visit and I read the whole book and
not one negative comment. The only thing we found was the jacuzzi
tub was not draining properly and you would have to stand in lots of
water if you were taking a shower. I'm sure if we had reported the
situation that it would have been corrected. -

Nashville TNWhat day is it?
Left on 01/16/2009 for a stay in December 2008
What I did on my Christmas Vacation:
Sat in the most comfortable--and I mean comfortable--couches and stared at the Gulf. I watched mindless television while sitting in the most comfortable couches, taking glimpses at the Gulf. I walked my Golden Retriever down to the surf after I sat in THE MOST COMFORTABLE COUCHES, reading at the gulf.
Ahhhhh. You will like it here.
