There are plenty of reasons to choose this spacious and comfortable home for your beach escape. Warm colors and sophisticated tropical furnishings create a heavenly atmosphere. Choose from two living areas for family gatherings.
Three bedrooms are master suites, two of which have garden tubs. A sunroom with wet bar and sleeper sofa is adjacent to the kitchen and can easily be closed off to use as a fifth bedroom. Other terrific features include vaulted ceilings, an elevator and a well-stocked kitchen. Multiple TVs/DVDs/VCRs. Two covered decks provide outstanding views of the Gulf or you can choose to surround yourself with the Island's... natural vegetation on the two back decks. Dogs allowed, no cats, please.
*This home does not participate in the Plantation amenities program so there is no access to the community pool, fitness center or tennis courts.

We stayed here in fall 2012 and this house is perfect for a group or family rental! Not only is it affordable but the layout and size inside gives you plenty of space while affording privacy if you need it. The house and furnishings were like new and Close to Heaven is well-equipped for cooking and serving. We were pleased to find that the owner had supplied everything we needed for a relaxing stay! You can start your day with coffee on the deck with a gentle breeze on your face while watching the birds and clouds roll by across the water. When you leave the house you are a short 2 minute walk from a nice boardwalk over to the sands. The beach is everything you dream about! It was a gorgeous sunrise and sunset each day with a pristine stretch of beach that feels like your own private resort. When we felt like exploring there were plenty of small places close by to go for dinner or a cocktail, but our favorite day was spent wandering and photographing the small town of appalachicola. It is a short drive to the nice mix of quaint shops and restaurants without the disappointing souvenir stores and tacky glitz one usually finds in seaside towns. We had great seafood and the locals were charming everywhere we went! There was more that enough room in the house and we loved having the lift to bring up groceries! We spent many happy hours cooking, eating and enjoying our family time here and will definitely return. Highly recommended for a magical stay!
Wonderful experience every time

This is one of the loveliest beach homes ever (stayed Oct. 2012, Nov. 2011) ... with another visit coming soon (Nov. 2013)!
There is an atmosphere of sheer beauty and peace that resides within - and around - this home. It's a must for anyone looking to truly get away from busy & demanding lives. There's just enough to do to keep visitors occupied, and yet this property is remote enough to lend an exclusive, pampered locale. There's much to love, with a choice between pool & beach, miles of biking and walking trails to keep the curious happy. Island residents are friendly and helpful on St. George. It's a classy yet relaxed destination.
A favorite feature of this beauty (besides the pool, generous rooms, ocean views, and large, inviting decks!) is the service elevator in the center of the home. It takes you from floor level for ease of access to the 1st level (guest rooms/living space/laundry) and to the 2nd level (kitchen/living spaces/master bedroom). The elevator's a great feature for loading & unloading. ...and the stairs are very wide (about 6' or more) and easy to use. As far as the elevator working, we had no problems whatsoever, and there are clear directions posted inside the elevator to help you.
Close to Heaven's decor is well-appointed, sort of a neo-classical coastal theme, largely sporting muted neutral shades of cream, greys, and greens...they really do look like the photos. :) And the kitchen is spacious, well-stocked, and includes just about any small appliance, cookware, and serving-ware that you could imagine. The large dining table easily seats 8 and with the blinds (and weather permitting, windows!) open and overlooking the ocean, you feel as if you're eating at the beach, without the sand blowing on your food.
This house is architecturally stunning, with loads of character and beauty ... it's obvious the owners have wonderful taste and have invested in the details to make anyone's stay a memorable one. This is a property not to be missed!

This lovely two-story home had everything we needed for our stay, from well-stocked kitchen cabinets, lovely bathrooms, and luxurious bedrooms, to the restful balconies, warm swimming pool, and quiet street. The beach was gorgeous - spent hours shell-collecting, walking, reading, meditating, and taking photographs to turn into water-colors at the house. Sea-rusty, trusty bikes are available for riding, or you can rent down the way. The restaurants served delicious food, and we enjoyed cooking, with all the kitchen amenities, eating, and laughing together.
You can tell the owners have lovingly cared for this home as there are personal touches in the bathrooms, bedrooms, and living areas.
I've recommended this often!
