Wonderfully furnished and appointed. So, any suggestiions for improvement, except the beds and the hot water, are minor.
Major: Beds are too soft and pillows in general are too hard and too big. My back went "out" on the third day. We then moved from 2nd to 4th floor to sleep -- in search of a better mattress. Mattress on the 4th floor was little better. I slept on the floor much of the time.
4th floor had no hot water for the first 6 days we slept on that floor. We had to use the 2nd floor bath for shaving, showering, and washing.
Minor: Needs hooks on 1st floor and behind doors in each bath -- hats and coats.
Needs shoe rack on 1st floor as we wear slippers in the house.
There should be a regular beach patrol to enforce leash laws. The beach was used by loose dogs as a pet toilet for the first 10 days and only we picked up. People are inconsiderate.
The house has been too big for us -- we are only 2 people.
We had some difficulty with the electronoics 5+ visits by maintenance for that reason in first 3 weeks of our stay (one week to go in our rental -- we do not leave until 2 april 2011). Remote did not work. Kitchen/dining TV sound did not work. WiFi did not work. Why not check electronics and hot water before a guest arrives?
There was only one champagne flute!
General: Beach is badly developed. Houses should not be built on dunes. Houses between the beach and the road are ugly and superfluous. The Island in general is an architectural desert. Maybe money talks.
But the food in the area is very good as is the beach. We particularly like this time of year (March) as we are not beach sitters and the beach is sparsely peopled.
Birds are scarce throughout this area -- except the Red-cockaded Woodpecers in the apalachicola National Forest, especially near Wilma. Read more
Thank you for taking the time to respond to our request for feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit but apologize that you experienced some maintenance issues during your stay. All of our properties are inspected prior to guest arrival. From time to time problems do not arise until after a guest is actually in the home and regularly using those amenities. With regards to the hot water, a tankless water heater was malfunctioning and had to be replaced. We apologize for the inconvenience, but are pleased this situation was able to be rectified during your visit. Thank you for the feedback on the mattresses. We often find that comfort of beds is subjective. What’s comfortable for one person does not always prove comfortable for another. With regards to the internet, a new router was recently installed & no further issues have been reported. We apologize that you experienced trouble with some of the TVs. New remotes have recently been installed & programmed. We apologize that some pet owners are not as conscientious as others. In our county we have a leash law that requires “direct control” of a pet whether this is by actual leash or voice command. We have passed your comments about patrolling the beach on to the proper authorities. With regards to development on the island, the island has been fully platted, so there can be no more building other than the lots that have been platted. Thoughtful consideration was given when the island was platted. We also have height restrictions in place so that homes cannot be built over 3 stories. We are surprised that you stated that birds are scarce in this area. Our area is known for plentiful wildlife & excellent birding opportunities. We provide a birding list for our area on our website which lists over 200 bird species that can be viewed at various times of the year. We appreciate your thoughtful suggestions on what you’d like to see changed/added to the home and will be passing your comments on to the homeowners for their review & consideration. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We look forward to having you back as our guests again soon.

Fastastic House for Kids

This house was great for our family because we have 3 children and 5 couples. There was a master bedroom for each couple and a kids room. The location is great because we were right on the beach and don't have to cross any streets with the kids to play in the sand. Also, having a private pool was perfect with the kids too. Sometimes they were tired of the beach or being in the gulf and just wanted to play and cool off in the pool...the adults felt the same way too! The only problem we had was that the elevator stopped working on the second day, but it was fixed by the 5th day. We only really used it to help bring bags up and down upon arrival and departure. Thank you for sharing your rental experience with us. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your vacation on St. George Island and your stay at Mysterio. We are delighted that you found the home so well suited to your family's needs. We apologize that there was some trouble with the elevator during your visit. Should any equipment malfunction during your stay we will make every effort to have it repaired as soon as possible. One of the challenges of living on a barrier island is that parts have to be ordered & repair companies have to travel a longer distance, so what may be routine at home can often be an adventure here. We value your patronage and look forward to having you as our guest again soon.
Sincerely, Resort Vacation Properties

We rented Mysterio for the month of February in 2006 and again in 2007 with
each week a different group of friends and family contributing to the
experience (and costs). The planning was the big chore. However, each week
was full of beach and game fun. The only decision at the beginning of each
day: How many pounds of shrimp do we buy today? The house provided space
for all groups and gathering. The kitchen gave everyone an opportunity to join
in the food prep and cooking. The stairs strengthen our legs... a side affect.
The elevator a treat but slow; not used very much. No pool swimming in
February; the ocean was warmer than the pool water; no pool water heating
allowed. In 2008 we scaled back to a smaller house all on one floor. Smaller
groups are just fine for us now. Yes, we would love to return to

Some of our family members have been coming to St. George Island since
before there was a bridge to the Island, so we are old hands at knowing
how to enjoy the place. Our trip this year to Mysterio was the first time we
had tried to stay all in one house. Usually, we rent several houses. This
property was very well suited to this multigenerational group. The elevator
was a great help in moving stuff in and out and for the older members who
could not do the stairs so well. The location and amenities of the house
were just right for us. The pool area and fenced lower level were great for
allowing adults to supervise kids in the pool without being in too much
sun. Proximity to the beach was also great for everyone. The arrangement
of the living areas and bedrooms was also great. We had 16 people
staying in the house and another 4-5 who joined us for meals (they were
staying in a condo in Carrabelle). The main kitchen/dining/living area was
entirely adequate for that many people and the additional refrig./
coffeemaker areas were handy for breaking up into smaller groups.
The air conditioning was just right in spite of the horridly hot temperatures
outside and we enjoyed the outdoor balconies early in the morning and in
Our only complaint was that some of the appliances were not working, but
the maintenance staff were very prompt in coming to make repairs. The
dishwashers never did work properly, however. They did not clean the
dishes very well.
Overall, it was a wonderful week and this house was ideal for it. Resort
Vacation Properties were extremely helpful to us. Thanks much.

We woke up to dolphins every morning. Ran five miles and walked back five miles on the beach to find sand dollars and beautiful shells of all colors. The ocean water was warm and the sealife friendly. We were met by crabs everyday both in the water and out. On Thursday a five foot long shark was in the water along side us but thank goodness the water was very shallow where its fin surfaced before the rest of it. The house was beautiful and perfect for nine children and six adults. We had lots of room and well equipped with the exception of beach chairs. The beds were soft, the tv in every room perfect. We did call the office three times and each time they sent someone out to spary for ants that were all over the kitchen counters. We have ant allergies and this was a big concern. Overall get rid of the bugs and Mysterio is so worth the money for everything it has to offer. Read more
We try to share with folks who have never visited St. George Island that the beaches are un-crowded, the shelling is fantastic and the dolphins run the shore everyday. You said it better than we ever could and we appreciate it. About the shark - Yikes! We don't get that feedback very often and we can imagine what an unwelcome surprise that must have been. Mysterio is a guest favorite and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay there too. About the ants - we genuinely apologize for that experience. As you stated, we addressed this multiple times and we are happy to share that since your stay, we have monitored the situation and there has not had any additional reports. We thank you again for your generous feedback and we hope you will be back to visit us soon.

For the past 3 years I have been vacationing on St. George Island. This past year was one of the best St. George experience's, the house Mysterio was perfect, it was so large we could all stay in one home and everyone was very comfortable. It was nice having the large home, pool and beach all together.
I highly recommend this property, as long as you don't try and rent it on my week! ha ha!

Mysterio is a perfect vacation home for a large family and friends group. We had our entire family which included my parents, our son and his wife and baby, our niece, great nephew and our friends and their teenage son. Everyone had their own space which was awesome with such a diverse group ranging in age from 1 1/2 to 70. We enjoyed the luxurious home and furnishings and of course the amazing views from the decks and being right on the beach. The pool was wonderful since it was pretty warm that week. It was shady in the morning for the baby and sunny in the afternoon for the teenagers. Everyone said it was the vacation of a lifetime!

This is a beautiful, nicely appointed beach front house. In fact, we
liked it so much that we are renting again this summer. However, I do
feel that it is over-priced when you compare it to other homes on the
island. Last year's price was high, but we were okay with this. The
price has increased nearly $1000/week this year which surprized me
since the house is the same, no upgrades or new furnishings - just
same old, same old. With the economy in upheaval, I believe the
owners would have been well served to at least keep pricing the same.
I am disappointed by the increase. I have searched and found other
very comparable homes at prices far less than this one and will take
advantage of those rentals next year.

This was our second trip to St. George Island, as well as our second rental with RVP. We stayed in the plantation the first year (2007)at La Gaviota. Both houses were all they were advertised to be. Lovely house, well furnished, nice pool. My one MAJOR complaint is that both houses were filthy. Not just not cleaned well but nasty. The floors were covered in sand, the beds had sand in them wich led me to have to strip and wash all the linens. If they were clean why were they sandy? That actually was not nearly as bad as the kitchen. Utensils, plates and silverware were in the drawers or cabinets with food caked on them. We ended up taking everything out and either washing by hand or running everything through the dishwasher. Last unit (Mysterio) had two but only one worked. We actually talked with our neighbors that were two doors down from us and they had to do the same thing. The refrig had purple (kool aid?)all over the shelves. At Mysterio last year when we got to the house the entrance way under the house was blocked by stacks of trash that the tenents that had just moved out left. One overflowing trashcan and several mounds of beer boxes, food containers, etc. just on the ground around the garbage can. It was clearly written in the unit to take the trash to the road on check out, but obviously ignored. We called the rental office to see if someone could come move the trash and the young lady said that nobody else was working that day. When my husband pressed the issue and asked if she had a maintainence person on call she replied" well I guess you want me to come do it myself!" At La Gaviota the year before the cleaning service came in to the unit before we left and asked if they could get started. We told them we would be leaving in the next half hour or so, still well before checkout, if they could wait, so they asked if they could bring in all the linens and such. We left with them in the driveway waiting for us to leave.
Bottom line we love St George Island but I talked with RVP both times when we got back home and was basically blown off both times with them saying it must have been a different or fill in cleaner that they never had trouble with their cleaning service.
We'll come back to St George but I don't know that I'll use RVP again. It's a shame because the houses they manage are the biggest and nicest on the island.
Mysterio was a spacious well maintained home. Bed linens were luxurious. Kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes & utensils. Extremely spacious. There are lots of stairs so the elevator is a must if anyone is aged or has injuries. The resident behind the house (across from garage) does not like the renters to have dogs. It upsets his apparently. He was a little gruff at first but eased up as the week progressed.
