AtlantaLate Summer Vacation
Left on 10/12/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My family has, within the last 3 years, started a summer vacation tradition of going to St. George Island. I went to the Island many Saturdays while in school at FSU but only recently started renting properties for longer vacations. For two years we rented a nice row house on the beach closer to the center of the Island. In more than a decade I can honestly say I never went near the plantation or even realized it existed. Now I may never go anywhere else. The area is beautiful and quiet. The beach isn't crowded and our dogs were able to play freely...as freely as we allowed at least. The house had everything we needed. The covered wrap around porch was perfect since we had a lot of rain during our stay. We weren't even that bummed about it since the house was so cozy. I even got to visit apalachicola for the first time since beach time wasn't much of an option. It's a sweet little area to spend an afternoon wandering around. It has a nice liquor store where you can replenish all kinds of cocktail ingredients if you, like us, drink more dark and stormys when it's actually dark and stormy. I recommend buying local seafood daily and cooking but there are a few restaurants on the island. Finally, we have been booking through Resort Vacation Properies. They give discounts to repeat visitors and if you book early enough you can save 10-40% on your rental. Get your act together and save almost half on a relaxing vacation at the beach (or at the plantation pool) in an idyllic beach house. It's worth every penny rain or shine.

PORPOISE LOVER
JEFFERSON, GASuperb location
Left on 10/04/2012 for a stay in May 2012
Have stayed here 4 times..Love the location...Amenities, view, privacy...Atmosphere a little too dark for our taste and living RM. Furniture needs to be updated...
Appliances also out dated...Refrig. had rust on interior parts...Freezer slow...Pantry door loose and awkward to close...Coffee maker didn't work properly...These should be reasonable changes and we feel could improve this property drastically...Also some landscape trimming (clean up...Etc) could help curb appeal...We have left these concerns W/ rental company ...And have asked them to research other sites...With some improvements we might consider returning to porpoise because it will always keep a spark aglow in our hearts...God bless -
Dobelover
Atlanta, GAComfortable, beautiful home right on the beach
Left on 05/14/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We stayed in Porpoise in Mind in april 2011 and returned in 2012 for our 20th anniversary. We love this house. The wall of windows at the front of the house provides a great view of the Gulf. The kitchen was well stocked, although we never found potholders. When we arrived in april 2012 there was a new flat screen TV and Blu Ray/DVD player in the living room, and a new flat screen TV mounted on the wall in the master bedroom.
Both times we brought our 3 large dogs and it was a very comfortable home for all of us. It was cool enough to leave the front door open much of the time and the dogs spent a lot of time on the deck. Neither of the deck entrance/exits has a gate, so we brought 2 baby gates which worked fine.
My only complaint was that the shower in the master bedroom drained very slowly. It was usually ankle deep by the time I finished showering. We did report this issue before we left, but did not ask them to fix it during our stay.
We will definitely rent this house again.

My husband and I had an amazing time during our sty at Porpoise In Mind. We will definitely return and would love to stay in the same rental home. The Plantation offered beautiful, serene atmosphere with a sense of being far from others. The service was wonderful as was the weather!

Compact house in perfect location
Gainesiville, FLSpend a week enjoying the inside whilst the wind blows
Left on 03/24/2011 for a stay in March 2011
Loved the house and location. Kitchen well stocked and appliances worked. The washer/dryer arrangement is curious. Husband would have liked one more TV as we rarely watch the same shows. The furniture is comfortable. We plan to return to this house in November. The weather was not so great the first week of March. (We left early as husband's cold turned to bronchitis and we need to see a doctor at home.) Looking forward to our return.

Louisville, KYVery cold visit
Left on 06/07/2010 for a stay in January 2010
We enjoyed the location of the house, and if the weather had been warmer like the years before, it would have been good. There were large openings around the doors and windows that let in the cold air. The blinds blew back and forth at night which kept us awake often. There was only one television so we could not always watch our favorite programs. My husband and I, as well as many other couples, do not always want to watch the same programs. Also, when we got there, the matress in the main bedroom had large urine stains on both sides. We called, and your company sent someone to clean it, but I still think it should have been replaced. I would recommend this location if the windows and doors were fixed so cold or hot air could not get into the house, another TV was installed, and the matress was replaced. Everything else was good for us. We enjoy St. George Island and its peacefullness at that time of the year.

McDonough, GASad to see it go.
Left on 06/03/2010 for a stay in September 2009
Our family loved renting Porpoise in Mind, and cherish the memories we made there; in fact we rented it in 2009, 2007 and 2006 for our month-long stays. We truly considered Porpoise in Mind our "home away from home" when we vacationed on the Island. It didn't offer us much, but we weren't asking for much; It's a very small house, with no creature comforts to speak of, but the view during the day made us forget about the wood bugs that came out at night. However, there is no way I would pay $3,500+ a month for 3 inch wood roaches and one television. The new owner's $1,200 rate increase brought an end to our yearly vacations at Porpoise in Mind.
Would I recommend Porpoise in Mind to anyone else? Well, I used to tell people about it all the time; in fact, we have even shown it to other renters while we were there. Still, knowing that there are other properties on the island that have a similar monthly rate but offer a great many more amenities, I would have to tell anyone asking to look a little bit longer. I don't know how to say it any other way than to say I don't think that adding another television (there is only one) would justify the rate being charged, but I wish you all the best. Our memories are priceless, and I'm thankful that we were able to make them before you purchased the property.Response from Resort Vacation Properties of St. George Island - 07/02/2010

Left on 01/17/2009 for a stay in October 2008
Can't beat it for location; deep covered porch for what else--porpoise
watching; and original knotty pine interior. The cooktop needs
replacing as all but 1 burner are on permanent scald. The absence of
screens imposes a sealed environment requiring a/c when Gulf
breezes would be preferred. -

Birmingham, ALNice, but had issues
Left on 01/16/2009 for a stay in September 2008
Great view. Great beach. Good layout. Comfortable beds. Nice deck. House is old and needs updates. Had a problem with scorpions and one toilet that became inoperable. Keyless entry system was convenient for late arrival, then became VERY annoying as EVERY time you entered the house from the deck you had to punch in the code. Rental company was pleasant and responsive to requests.

Cedartown, GeorgiaNice home, convenient
Left on 01/16/2009 for a stay in July 2008
The home is a nice and was fairly close to description as listed. The low counters were a small issue, but I knew upfront that was the case. It was a little inconvenient having to carry all items up about 15 steps, but that was minor. The house only had one television, and did not have a remote. I reported that it had no remote, or at least we could not locate. It also had no clocks in bedrooms so I had to purchase one to insure not late for fishing trips, or golf tee times. The upper room gets a very warm during the day. The house was great as a beach access home and that part we enjoyed. Also in a nice area. I may rent again if it was just my wife, and myself, but likely would not with my entire family.
