Native vegetation has grown over time so this home is situated in the best of both worlds - beachfront with a gorgeous walk over the boardwalk as well as being cocooned in a private sanctuary. The second level offers an open living/dining/kitchen area with hardwood floors, high ceilings, a gas fireplace and access to the sundeck. It has an unusual set up with kitchen being on top floor. It really should have the elevator for all rentals. It takes a lot of effort to bring all kitchen needs up two extended flights of stairs. Plus someone destroyed our beach canopy frame even though inside the gated community, twice. Repaired once and then happened again so bad had to just toss. Also main bedroom smelled so bad of pet urine had to just kep it closed off.

St. George Island is a beautiful vacation spot, and we loved our daily jaunts to apalachicola. This rental is in a very nice location. But the kitchen is outdated. The cabinets were not clean inside and we found dirty dishes, pots and pans put away with clean ones. The appliances are old and dingy. We ended up feeling the kitchen was unusable. The elevator is quirky. If you like privacy, the good thing about it is the beachfront bedroom windows are mostly obscured by native vegetation. The bad thing about that is you cannot actually see the beach or the ocean unless you go to the top floor or outside. Other than the kitchen, the rest of the house was clean. Although we did not use it, the pool and hot tub were regularly maintained. We had friends who visited and they felt if they returned to the area they would want a place where you could see the beach. Our adult children visited, and they liked the casual atmosphere and thought the place was fine. But they also preferred we go out for every meal so the kitchen was not such an issue for them.

We apologize that the view did not meet your expectations. Native vegetation has grown over time & this home is situated in the best of both worlds – beachfront, but affording privacy. This clarification was added to both our 2010 & 2011 Vacation Planners as well as to the property description on our website. The views as listed on our website refer to the view from the main living area. This property offers a Gulf view from the main living area, but not a beach view. Again, we apologize that the view did not meet your expectations. Should you choose to visit St. George Island again in the future, we hope you will allow us to find the perfect home for you that will exceed your expectations.

Perfect setting, somewhat secluded, private boardwalk to beach. Hot tub and pool we fantastic. Fourth year renting through RVP, first time in Sea Spell. Will be back next year.

I have already written a letter to RVP and received a reply and apology and 10% refund.
I have nothing but respect for the way it was addressed after I wrote a letter.
Overall, it appeared to me, maybe the house had not been rented in a while and there wasn't any need to keep everything perfect. Also maybe some of the staff was not aware of the terrain between the house and beach.
I travel to St. George 3-4 times a year for at least a week at the time, and I plan to use RVP to make my reservations next time.Response from Resort Vacation Properties of St. George Island - 01/20/2010

Sea Spell was a fabulous home away from home for a week for our family and friends' family. It is toward the front of the plantation; however, with the wonderful private pool and hot tub, there isn't alot of need to drive (or ride bikes) to the community pool. The kitchen was very well stocked and the home is laid out so everyone has their own privacy. We enjoyed the top level for everyone to get together and enjoy the view of the gulf from the top screened in porch in the evenings.
Will definitely consider staying again in this home! -

For the price we paid for a beach front house, we expected to have a nice view of the beach and be close to it. The only view of the beach came from the top floor balcony if you were tall enough to see over the dunes and bushes. Aside from that, the house was clean and suited our needs. I would not stay in this house again for the price.

St. George was a wonderful vacation spot. There isn't much to do other than beach or fish, but that's what we came for. The house was clean with a well stocked kitchen. We had ample room for 9 people, including 3 children and a dog. The house had lots of stairs, which presented a small problem for my mother. The pool, hot tub, location and beach was wonderful. I will stay at this property again.

I was disappointed with this house. It did
not live up to its review or its price. Many
thing were broken in the home and very little
upkeep had been done to it to warrant the
rental price.
Despite claiming to be beach front (which it
was) there was a very very limited beach view
as the home sits in a hole behind the dunes.
Your view was mainly of the tops of dune
trees. This should have been reflected in the
house write up and in the price. The
boardwalk to the beach needed needed a lot of
work. I feel the rental company is as much to
blame as the owners as the rental company is
paid to see that certain standards are
maintained if the owners do not. In the
future I will listen to Clark Howard who
recommends that no one rent a resort property

We thank you for your feedback and we apologize for the experience you had in Sea Spell. After doing some preliminary research, our Maintenance Department has reported that the steps leading down to the boardwalk as well as multiple runner boards were repaired in July, 2008.
Additionally, we've noted that with the growth of the vegetation on the sand dunes, the view of the beach is not what it once was. The Marketing Department changed the description in the 2009 Vacation Planner to reflect that views of the shoreline can be seen from the observation tower. They will also be changing the description listed on our website to accurately reflect that although the property is beachfront, the primary views from the decks are of the surrounding native vegetation.
Your thoughts and concerns are valuable to us and we will continue to make improvements because you have taken the time to communicate them. Again, thank you.
