Les Marmottes residence is in a prime position right at the foot of the pistes, 50m walk from the centre of the village, the ski-lifts and the ESF ski school. These typical mountain ski chalets are south-facing with a magnificent view of the Aiguilles d'Arves.
Accommodation and facilities
Les Marmottes is a collection of 20 Savoyard style chalets each housing 6 ski apartments of various sizes.
They are in a prime position right at the foot of the pistes, 50m walk from the centre of the village of SAINT JEAN D'ARVES, the ski-lifts and the ESF ski school.
These typical mountain ski chalets are south-facing with a magnifi...cent view of the Aiguilles d'Arves.
The reception desk, a children's play corner (with games and colouring books) and a billiard table are housed in the central chalet. The outdoor swimming pool is open in the Summer ONLY.
For a small extra charge (5€ per person including use of robe and slippers) guests may soak away their aches and pains in the open air hot tub.
There is a variety of restaurants, a take-away, a pub, a cinema and ski-hire shops as well as a food store and other shops, all within 100m walk.
A free shuttle bus runs between the village and a disco which is situated some 3km away.
Free outdoor parking is available in front of the reception chalet.
There are 4 different sizes of ski apartment ranging from a small studio cabine for 4 people to a duplex apartment for 8 people.
The 2 bedroom ski apartment for 6 people measures approximately 40m².
In the living area is a pull-out sofa bed which can be used as twin single beds.
There is one bedroom with a double bed which may, in a few cases, be in an attic room with a sloping ceiling.
There is a bedroom on the ground floor with bunk beds. Please note that the top bunk is not suitable for children under 6 years.
The apartment has a well-equipped kitchenette with a 4-ring hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher as well as a toaster and electric coffee maker.
There is a bathroom has a bath and a shower fitment and there is a separate toilet.
All ski apartments have either a balcony or, in the case of ground floor accommodation, a small terrace.
Each of the chalets have wi-fi access but this must be pre-booked in advance and a supplement is payable.
There is a shared laundry 100 m from the residence.
Maurienne is the last unspoilt valley in the Alps. A world away from those purpose built ?mountain cities?, it is easily accessible by motorway or on the TGV which goes all the way to St Jean de Maurienne. The resorts of this beautiful Savoyard valley remain, by and large, authentic Alpine villages set at the foot of the pistes.
Saint Jean d'Avres is part of ?Les Sybelles? ski area (the 4th largest in France), set in a spectacular location with 360O panoramic views of the mountains. The farming traditions of St Jean d?Arves sit comfortably alongside the trappings of a ski resort with all the necessary shops, ski shops, restaurants and ski school. Domaine ?Les Sybelles? comprises 310km of pistes spread over 6 interconnecting resorts (including Le Corbier, La Toussuire and St-Sorlin d?Arves). There are 45 lifts and 1100m variation in altitude from 1600m up to 2620m. providing a vast skiing area which is ideal for beginners and intermediates.
A ski shuttle-bus links the hamlet of La Chal (departures from outside the Tourist Office) with Plan du Moulin and Saint-Sorlin d?Avres. It is reserved for people with a Sybelles ski-pass and allows you to connect between the St Jean d'Avres - Le Corbier ski area and Saint-Sorlin d'Avres in just 10 minutes. This compares with 1h30m to ski across. You may want to explore on skis at the start of your holiday then use the shuttle bus later on, or catch the bus one way and ski back home at the end of the day.
Les Sybelles area 75 lifts 97 slopes including 17 green, 39 blue, 35 red, 6 black, 2 snow parks. 193 snow cannons.
There is an outdoor swimming pool open in the Summer.
"Abonnés" depuis plus de 10 ans à Saint-Jean d'Arves, sympathique village de chalets dans le domaine skiable des Sybelles.
Nous apprécions particulièrement les appartements des Chalets des Marmottes, qui nous semblent un peu plus grands que ceux des autres stations de ski françaises. Le charme vient aussi du fait que nous nous trouvons dans une chalet de 3 étages (avec généralement 6 appartements). Ceux-ci sont joliment décorés (bois et crépi), bien qu'assez sobres. Il manque juste un peu de lumière dans la partie salon, la seule lampe étant celle au-dessus de la salle à manger.
Le personnel de la réception est charmant et serviable.
Un accès wifi gratuit est disponible à la réception.
