Boston, MAVilla Tamarindo - a home away from home
Left on 05/31/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We stayed at Villa Tamarindo in late Feb with another couple and absolutely loved it. It's a short drive up the hill from Cruz Bay and has all the amenities you could ask for.
The home is updated with all new amenities and an open kitchen/living room floor plan. The deck overlooking the water is gorgeous. We would get up and enjoy our breakfast there every morning. Also the pool in the back was a great refresher from a long day out and about the island.
Mike was a gracious host and when we arrived they had a few provisions for us, so we didn't have to hit up the store right away.
I would highly recommend staying here. It was a true home away from home for us. -

New YorkGreat villa and wonderful host
Left on 05/26/2012 for a stay in April 2012
The villa is in immaculate condition, has every amenity we could ask for (including bocce court which our family loved playing), and is in a great location - a few minutes from Cruz Bay, high enough that mosquitos are not a problem and views are gorgeous, and with a private entry to a National Park trail (walking 10 minutes on it in the direction of Cruz Bay gets you to a raised platform with panoramic sunset views, which we took advantage of on several evenings).
Mike, the host, is as amazing as his villa. From the moment he met us at the dock we knew we were in good hands. He took our bags and us to our car rental agency, then we followed him to the villa where he took the time to not only explain everything in the villa but to also give us great tips on where to eat, hike, and swim. And even warned us about a coming Northern Swell and explained how to structure our week to avoid being affected by it. He lives in an apartment right below the house and was always cheerfully available to help with any question. -

Denver, COGood value!

Owner was prompt and attentive to our needs. The home is well constructed with fine design and materials, the gardens are lush and colorful, and the furnishings are tasteful yet simple. Separation of the two bedrooms makes it ideal for privacy. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans, dishes and glasses, and the bed and bath linens are ample and fresh. We appreciated having provisions stocked in the refrigerator so we could settle in and not have to go shopping the first day. The washer and dryer are also plusses. Construction is on-going on most of the island, so if a quiet stay is important, do your research. The home is also located near a switchback in the road, so you'll often hear squealing brakes. Because the home is at around 700 ft., you'll find it relatively bug-free, and the breezes are refreshing and cooling. The furniture was on the "hard" side rather than being cushy, but everything was clean and crisp. We didn't have great t.v. or internet reception, but that seems to be island-wide from time-to-time rather than specific to this property.

North CarolinaPerfection in St John
Left on 05/17/2012 for a stay in December 2011
Villa Tamarindo has the perfect location in all of St John, especially if you like hiking and great views. My 2 teenage sons and my husband and I spent Christmas at Villa Tamarindo and I couldn't have asked for a better gift. Beautiful simple furnishings inside with comfortable beds, a big deck with large dining table (with a view down to the ocean) where we ate Christmas dinner by candlelight. A welcomed pool outback to jump into after hiking, with trails to the national park starting in the backyard. We'd hike down to the beaches to snorkle and then back up to the villa and into the pool. Mike the owner had basic provisions like milk, eggs, fresh fruit in the fridge for us when we arrived.

2013 will be our 4th winter vacation on St. John, the third staying at Villa Tamarindo. I cannot think of a better place to stay on my favorite island in the world. The house is so comfortable. Everything you could possible want in a kitchen is already there. The beds and linens are great. Mike and his family provide everything you will need to have a great vacation. Beach towls, chairs, coolers, pool, shampoo and soap in the bath, washer and dryer. The house is designed in a way that you feel right at home the minute you walk in. The view from the porch is out to St. Croix, the perfect place for your morning coffee or dinner. We love the location and it is easy to get to the grocery store, beaches and restaurants. The hiking trail from the yard goes right into town. Obviously, we love this house. We wouldn't stay anywhere else on St. John.

The place is superbly located and in pristine condition, even better than the photos. Owner (Mike) met us at the ferry, had thought of everything so that we had no need to run out to the store the first day, knows everything and everybody on the island, and is a great guy. Wonderful views and breezes; didn't need to turn on the central a/c. We came back again. Highly recommended!
